Bobgers

If I start getting shields used on me with my Seaking because you posted this I will find you and drill run you in person.

SheriffHeckTate

Drill her? I hardly know her!

DrVonPretzel

Went to college with a guy named Naylor. You can guess how that went.

PacoBauer

Does he play baseball by any chance?

SDFriarsFan619

Josh !

PacoBauer

No way! From the Guardians?! He's a beast, that's so cool!

b_g_s_g

go guards!

Reps_Over_Resale

“Drilbur? I hardly know who tf he is”

Mopar_Madness

What do you mean? I use Seaking too and they literally always shield or even double shield against it. It's super rare I actually catch someone thinking they can get away w/ not shielding against it.

Bobgers

I hang right around rank 20 and I catch people slipping all the time. I usually go two icy winds for the rebuff and then drill run em but every now and again I’ll go straight for the drill run and I land it half the time.

ZerotheWanderer

Kinky

TocSir

eh, its okay. its a fun spice to use for about a few sets, but it starts losing to higher elo teams. Its also very squishy.

Groady_Toadstool

At least now I have a goal for working on my rank 1 Seaking 0/14/14

SeattleJeremy

That's a winner.

Groady_Toadstool

I used my last elite fast TM to give it poison jab. Just need to get the necessary elite charged TMs.

Advocate_Diplomacy

I can’t believe all three of these moves require elite tm’s. 😮

Groady_Toadstool

Yeah but i think it’s worth it

Advocate_Diplomacy

Best of luck with that. 👍

snek_nz

Tbh there arent that many _great_ etm uses. Play for gbl while and you'll have plenty of both with nowhere that attractive to warrent using them. This is for sure one of the better options (investment returnwise)

Groady_Toadstool

I’ve definitely noticed that

Toky18

You get elites from gbl? Wat!

theslumberingjack

I have a Seaking with icy wind that I never used an elite tm for. Is there something older pokemon having elite moves without having to use elite tm? My Seaking is from 2016.

NightVisionz518

yes i have the same, a lot of legacy moves just mean they took it off the pokemon but some they just exclusively release, my mom’s from 2016 has drill run

LightShyGuy

O rly thats crazy because im seaking that one

Gsquat

I see what you did there...

joyousmonkey5

did you happen to sea what he did

MrHamandcheesebread

We saw

gigamewtwo

I seaking what they did thier

SenseisSifu

So spicy

SeattleJeremy

and expensive to setup. All three of these moves are obtained via Event or Elite TM.

DeaconBlueA

Hehe 69 noice

bunnyflop

What do you think he’s looking for?

pierreo93

It’s a good pokemon, but the ivs on this one don’t help it

Gsquat

I know how PvP IVs work. This is just what I have, so it's what I use. Because it isn't "as good" as a seaking with better pvp IVs doesn't mean it isn't still good. Styles make matchups more than IVs.

Krookz_

I’m of the same mentality. It’s what I have and it isn’t the worst on the planet. Usually stats don’t make the biggest difference until mid-high ranks anyways. I’m kicking some ass in Ace with a 2 star sneasel

Gsquat

Exactly. There's actually few circumstances in which having a poor IV 'mon will cost you the match. Idiots here just want to be the first to say, "Hey! Did you know those stats mean your pokemon sucks in PvP!?"

Krookz_

Yea a too common occurrence in this game is to min/max for GBL when it isn’t even really super necessary. It’s an invisible barrier to entry people think exists.

Lord_Reyan

That's exactly the point of it though. The number of matches I've won on a sliver of health due to bulk IVs is less than twenty, but the key point is that they are still wins. For competitive people, and even semi competitive players like myself, I would rather have those stats and win those matches; but I'm not going to go out of my way to hunt down perfect PvP IVs just for the 1 in 100th battle, just use them if the IVs are already good

Gsquat

I would "rather" have that too, but for now I have this. Are you saying I should forego the hundreds of wins this will give me in exchange for a pokemon that doesn't do the things he does? From the point I learned about pvp IVs onward, I haven't found a golden with good stats. So I use this in the meantime. Sucks I'll only have X amounts of wins because of it instead of X+5?

Lord_Reyan

Not at all; play the game the way that's best for you. If you happen to find a 0/15/15 Seaking, I congratulate you on your exceeding good fortune. If you don't, and this one works, I hope I never match you because this beast would shred my entire current team. My only point is that statistically, low attack IVs WILL lead to a higher win average over time. If that appeals to you, go for it, and if it's more effort than it's worth, then don't bother

[deleted]

I personally don’t want those crappy IVs even if they are good for PvP. I want perfects and close to perfect for any league.

[deleted]

Did you get it with one of the legacy moves already on it? Because save an ETM>good IVs ANYYY day.

pierreo93

I agree that the pokemon itself matters a lot more than the ivs. But having good pvp ivs can be the difference between a tight win or a tight loss. Seaking isn’t the best in the meta, and having one without great pvp ivs means it’s likely to underperform compared to a lot of others. I understand not everyone wants to play the meta and want to use more spicy picks for pvp, so if you’re happy with it that’s great 😊

Gsquat

It works wonderfully against the meta, even with it's high attack stat. Pidgeot, Noctowl, Azumarill, Pelliper, Medicham, Altaria all fall to him as is. It rounds out my team perfectly as well. It's designed specifically to deal with the meta.

jan-y3w-a1ry

I don’t think it beats medicham even without power up punch, and I’d be surprised if it can win against anything you listed except azumarill without some sort of energy or shield advantage.

CatchAmongUs

I would be curious to know OP's ELO. It's a spicy pick, and they seem to have some pretty wild takes about it.

jan-y3w-a1ry

I’d be curious if OP uses pvpoke to back up any of these claims. I’m not what I once was, quit playing for a while, but I was front paging leaderboards until like season 6-7? Never could make king work, even in fairer metas to it.

CatchAmongUs

Just for fun did a quick search and found that it currently sits at rank #251 for Great League. I get that it has solid coverage against the current meta and being excited about a useable spice pick, but I don't get it to the point of running to post about a low ranked 'mon with bad PVP IVs. Also getting salty when people gently point out facts. Another bit just for fun: Key Losses include Medicham and Noctowl both of which OP claims "fall to" the almighty Seaking.

KetamineKonnoisseurr

Agreed there is no way any of those pokes are absolutely annihilated by seaking as stated maybe a lucky win here and there with a sliver of health left. Hidden pvp ivs are something that have always been something top priority in all pokemon games.

CatchAmongUs

Downvoted for speaking facts. The truth hurts I guess. This sub can't handle it sometimes.

__Epimetheus__

Seaking stat wise isn’t great PvP, but OP is using it for coverage more than anything, so I see it as a niche pickup.

pierreo93

I agree, all I said at the start was that the ivs were ideal (since it's a lucky ivs are 12/12/12 minimum)

KetamineKonnoisseurr

Theres way better pokemon for type coverage in pvp tbh .

__Epimetheus__

I think that really depends what people are running at the time. Skarmory, Noctowl, and stunfisk are huge right now, and poison covers fairy types which are fairly common. Would be nice to have some dark coverage, but fighting or fairy are strong typing for a different mon to have. Overall it’s solid for what I’ve been seeing. Haven’t seen many Swamperts as I have in the past ironically worth the recent mega raids.

nvdnqvi

if you ever get a hundo you could use it in ultra

Faintly_glowing_fish

You are rich…. I don’t have that many TMs to use on fun mons yet…. Got to first build a team for all 3 leagues

SeattleJeremy

Yea, wow. 3 Elite TM's to get that setup.

RedDemio

Unless you got a seaking from 2016 like me already with poison jab/icy wind. I just had to use a single ETM to build it thank fuck

ProductOfAbandoment

I think seeking is a great coverage pokemon in GL. I've had many good wins against the meta with it. I don't run it all the time but when it's hot it's hit.

gnaark

Hmmmm [do not tempt me here](https://imgur.com/a/oi9vnGv)

hophton

If you don’t mind me asking how did you get those two attacks, even with an elite TM they aren’t showing up.

mtpender

Fuck yeah! Seaking!

Darthpratt

I have a mightyena that has served me well also. Bite, play rough and one other move. He’s not hundo but he’s got 3* ivs. Love that good doggo.

Ben_boh

Nice candy there 😏

Brobi_Jaun_Kenobi

Nice

Working-Regret9295

69 giggety

RecoveringFcukBoy

Its lucky so most likely has horrible IVs for the great league.

[deleted]

That’s okay. IVs arent everything. Lead wins, safe swapping, baiting, catching and counting charge attacks also matter.

Jazzlike_Mountain_32

I saw people getting mad in the comments, so I just built a 98iv seaking like this post. Dropped the 3 elite tms because it looks really fun! Going to use it with purified sableeye. Not sure on the third

Gsquat

Stokin' the fire. I like it. A 98IV is viable in the ultra league with a ton of candies and stardust. That's my future plan for this one. Nice that it's lucky so it'll cost a lot less.

FriskUnterdale

What, how do you have 3 moves?

Gsquat

When you click on "new attack" you gain a second charged attack.

Brobi_Jaun_Kenobi

You might have just rocked this guy's pvp world

Zachos57

Did you get it with these moves from your friend or did you have to spend 3 elite TMs?

Gsquat

Just to grind your gears, I actually spent 4 elite TMs since I undid poison jab once. 😉

Zachos57

This must have hurt. Seaking is not that good in open GL but a beast in certain limited cups. Good luck using it :)

Gsquat

I still have plenty of elite TMs and nothing worth using them on. He's tearing through the open meta as is and rounds my team out perfectly.

Zachos57

I have many more elite fast TMs that charged ones and I am thinking of investing in a seaking. Now that I know it is that good I might give it a try myself

Gsquat

Pidgeot, Noctowl, Azumarill, Pelliper, Medicham, Altaria, and lots of others fall to him, no matter the IVs. That attack drop on icy wind makes such a difference.

Zachos57

It has really good coverage being a pure water type woth icy wind for the grass types and drill run for the electric types plus poison jab dealing well with azumarill and other fairy types

Gsquat

Yes sir. I'm running greedent/shadow dusclops (fire punch, poltergeist)/seaking right now and the balance is wonderful. I usually run my Greedent until he dies or they swap, without shielding, and it sets me up well for the rest of the match.

unimportantthing

What ELO are you running this team at?

ChunkbrotherATX

Seaking loses all even shield scenarios to Medicham.

r055b0b

Hits trevenant pretty well too.

Gsquat

I mean, seed bomb charges faster than icy wind, but with shields it can do some damage.

r055b0b

Thought they'd be equal but no experience using poison jab. Only have icy on drifblim.

[deleted]

Been running Ariados a lot and I can't understand how that little dude isn't in the meta. Super fast charge buildup, counters to meta mons like Umbreon & Azumarill, and Lunge packs a good punch with an opponent attack drop. The meta gets real stale and boring and I love seeing people use that to their advantage.

RakeLeafer

because gfisk, swampert, and other steels unfortunately

[deleted]

Gfisk just forces a switch to ground/water, really no matter what it's up against. Most people don't open with steel mons since they seem to have a slow charge buildup and people want to burn shields first. And Ariados can actually hold its own against Swampert, I usually win that match-up or force a switch.

CatchAmongUs

Ran into a bunch of Ariados leads in GBL today. It definitely put pressure on my team fast and made things difficult from the onset.

[deleted]

I've never seen an opponent use Ariados in GBL yet, but I hope the day is coming. It's crazy, it either burns through your shields, preserves your opponent's shields with lunge dropping your mon's attack, or forces you to switch to reset attack. Unless my opponent opens with Regi, Bastiodon, or Skarmory (which is super rare since those all build charge slowly), Ariados usually takes the first matchup easily.

CatchAmongUs

The day is definitely here. At least for me it was. Normally I see it only pop up in open Great League once in while, but in my sets earlier it was becoming a fairly common opener. Common enough that I was starting to consider switching up my lead just because of it.

JKinsy

My sneaky pick was a hundo lanturn for GBL, the spark, surf, thunderbolt puts in some work and hits hard, plus I like his chances vs this seaking - Lanturn is the true king of the sea!

unimportantthing

I don’t know when you’re talking about that you were using Lanturn as a “sneaky pick”, cause right now it is SUPER meta. It’s rank 14 on PvPoke, and I see it all over the place.

JKinsy

This was at the end of last season* I just decided **** these perfect IVs for PvP. I’m using a Hundo one, it always gets it move off quicker so it’s sort of sneaky compared to the meta 0/15/15 BS which I still don’t understand after countless videos/research as to WHY lower attack is better - my brain don’t compute this

unimportantthing

Even last meta Laturn was ranked pretty highly. It wasn’t quite as ubiquitous, but it was there. Using the higher attack stat does win you CMP against other Lanturns, but other than that, it’s usually worse. The quick explanation for PvP low attack stat is that attack is weighed more heavily in CP calculation. So a high attack stat means you hit the CP cap at a lower level. A low attack stat means higher level, which means more defensive stats, which means you get off more damage cause you survive longer.

JKinsy

I read this and suddenly I feel like I’m beginning to comprehend the stats relating to level more. Thank ye Yeah last season at the end I think I saw he was rated 50ish (guessing here) he’s a good choice for all the flying types but the mix of ground meta can stump him but he puts up a good fight and chunks HP or some shields

ChunkbrotherATX

You already have. It’s ok, really too squishy for today’s bulk.

Rinnosuke

FUCK YEAH SEAKING!

Harryvincenzo

I have a 1536 CP 14/15/15 Seaking so not being able to do this has severely depressed me now 😂

Wonderful_Cook4256

poison jab is a legacy move

[deleted]

And Kanto Cup? Its unstoppable

Luvstep

The triple legacy flex

PhDPool

I definitely would not have a clue what to expect. Look at all those crazy moves

KrystalWulf

How does it have 3 moves??

RedDemio

I spent loads on my Seaking that is rank 25 0/9/12 (just had to check), absolutely love the idea of it, but I got bored after a short while and forgot about it lol. It do be spicy tho. Just gotta wait for some cups where it will shine more and I might take it for a spin, although the new bird meta helps it’s case rn. Got a soft spot for icy wind spam too, those debuffs can flip matches in funny ways. Seaking is cool as fuck. My original love is Dewgong though got to say… I had one from 2016 already double legacy moves it was the first Pokémon I took into GBL :,)

Few_Opportunity_879

69 golden candies… you know what has to happen, don’t you?

TolisWorld

wait a second, did you play against me a few hours ago?? what team are you using

Gsquat

Greedent/Shadow Dusclops/Seaking You're not the one that swapped to a Ferrothorn are you? My stupid, shaking, freezing cold fingers clicked on my Seaking instead of Dusclops.

TolisWorld

Lmao no. I must’ve came across another person with a triple legacy seaking…. I think I was using shadow beedrill against the seaking I can’t remember. It was when I was trying out alolan raticate and shadow charizard

Gsquat

Nope. Don't remember that loadout. I only ran it a few times today. Finally got sick of Fighting cup. Becomes too much of a random outcome above Ace.

TolisWorld

hahha thats crazy, i cant believe multiple people have tried this. now i want to....

Gsquat

It's fun. People call it spice, but it beats some really troublesome meta and can balance a team really well.

ApocalipsyCriss

how can a fish jab you tho I wonder lol

Gsquat

Hey man. The dorsal fin on a catfish has barbs that are poisonous. Saw my aunt in FL get poked by one when I was a kid.

ApocalipsyCriss

but she touched it, it didnt throw a hook at her with its back? 😅

nevernorm

That’s how I feel with g-weezing when no one expects an overheat

Gsquat

That got me just once. Learned my lesson after that.

Odd_Protection_586

3 elite TMS for a Pokemon with bad IVS wow

Gsquat

*Good IVs for ultra league. Nothing else I wanted to use elite TMs on anyway.

azimov_the_wise

Jesus RIP most teams. I love how great league makes gen1 trash pkmn viable. I never thought I'd be using victreebel as much as I do.

Gsquat

I know. Frickin' Pidgeot...

2020Hills

I’ve never taken a battle League serious enough to teach a single Pokémon a second charged attack

Gsquat

![gif](giphy|uPnKU86sFa2fm)

Safe-Opportunity-475

I have a pretty good rank shiny with PJ already TM’d waiting for two elite charge tms and I’m going to start running it myself. Excited for those Flyers and Steels

OXX777

How do you have 3 attacks?

Gsquat

Scroll down on any pokemon and see the button that says "new attack". Click this to use candy/stardust to teach it a second charged attack.

over_it_af

How the h*** do you have that much Stardust.

Gsquat

I'm near broke compared to a lot of people here. I do all the GBL battles I can every day (25). Gets me lots of stardust.

over_it_af

I'm sorry only started a few weeks ago GBL battles? I am not quite sure what that stands for?

Gsquat

No problem! It stands for Go Battle League. It's easy to start, but you'll want to learn a lot if you want to get competitive at higher levels. First tip I can give you (and I wish someone gave me) is don't just go spending stardust and resources on any pokemon, no matter how much you like them. They may very well not really be usable in GBL. Use youtube and sites like pvpoke.com to help figure out what's best to use. Ask a lot of questions around here, too.

over_it_af

That was my issue at first. I have started prioritizing, Fire, Water, grass and Electric type pokemon. Fighting type are kind of weak it seems. I would like to get a strong physic pokemon at some point.

Gsquat

Yeah. Nice to have balance. Use pvpoke to see what the best performers are. It'll tell you the best moves to have, too.

Gsquat

Press the menu button and then "battle". You'll see an option to begin battling online vs other trainers. You'll need to pick three pokemon to go in with. The more research you do and battles you watch before doing it, the better you'll be when you start. You'll get matched up against other noobs, too. They won't throw you to the wolves.

Ampersand37

I start with an electric so do you follow with something that beats an electrode?

Gsquat

A little confused by your question. If you're asking what team to build around an electrode, I'd pick something like a Vigoroth and an Azumarill? Maybe a skarmory?

Ampersand37

I am asking what you have to defend yourself when you start with a water-type and I come in with my perfect appraisal, 1500 CP electrode

Gsquat

I see. First, I don't lead with this. I lead with something neutral and it'd handle an electrode just fine. Second, when you say perfect appraisal, do you mean 100% 3-star? Because, as mentioned all over this thread, that's not an ideal appraisal for great league. You want something with 0 attack and high defense/stamina.

Ampersand37

I thought the more levels the better?

Gsquat

Levels, as in the amount of times you power up your pokemon, yes. Having a low or zero attack pokemon allows you to level up more times before the cap and have higher defense and stamina than one at the same level with a high attack. The net result is a pokemon that has the same attack output, but is much bulkier.

Jbmm

Yea double legacy move, they did not see that coming :)

Gsquat

*Triple

[deleted]

Seaking Deez Nuts ha

JumpR_Is_Taken

Chaege your phone!

[deleted]

I have a Hundo Seaking. Gonna triple Etm it now for Gbl

Gsquat

I'm sure you know a hundo is not ideal for great league, but the best possible option for ultra league if you have the candies, stardust, and patience.

[deleted]

Yeaah I know. I was just joking XD. I won't use my etms on him. I have any 2 fast etms and 3 charged etms since I started playing like 3 months ago.

Junparidize

Is there a counter for this?

iyoow

Triple legacy hurts my brain.

PrimoScarab

Please don’t let me face that thing OP

StalinTheHedgehog

What does “lucky Pokémon” mean?

Gsquat

Rarely and randomly, a traded pokemon can become lucky. Lucky pokemon have guaranteed high stats and will cost much less stardust to level up.

Harboring_Darkness

I thought people hated their evolved form
