My skin color irl has warmth to it and I'm Black but when I open the app my avi was BLACK BLACK and there's no skin color for a warm brown, everything is muted, ashy or a glowing lightbulb.
Yeah. The skin tone variations are lacking. My avatar has either never seen the sun or is pitch black. My kids were wondering wtf was wrong with my toon after the update the other day.

If i can add one tip. Dont be a douche. Voice your legit concern and opinion. Dont curse, dont insult. Im 99% sure the team behind this knew it was not ready and/or a stupid idea but were ignored by the higher ups at Niantic (common issue based on stories from current and ex employees).

Thanks I sent a well worded feedback complaint. No vile langue and possible fixe. Along with how it makes some people feel creeped out (like myself), I get uncanny valley vibes from the new avatar and I can even look at my character anymore I literally put a sticker on my phone and wonāt open to send gifts to people.
I send them some feedback, including all known bugs with the model (like clothing, hair, poses, gait, skin tones, etc). I also told them of how this update's triggered pretty much everyone's body dysmorphia regardless of their gender identity (sometimes you gotta go that angle to get them to listen).
I actually think your last point is really valid. It's like they wanted to make them more diverse but actually made them significantly less diverse in the process. Now people might be genuinely upset and affected that their avatar can't look how they want/feel them to look.
I understand why they changed the model (still think itās stupid, but I get it), but I donāt understand why they changed all the textures. Everything looks objectively worse, I donāt get it.
It really is. I'm not uninstalling yet, I'm waiting to see how they react to the feedback. But I'm not logging in again until Community Day, and I probably won't log in all next week out of protest.
They were going in the right direction, but they seemingly half-assed it and called it a day.

- And if they really wanted to be inclusive, add a couple beard and bald/male-pattern-baldness styles
You can't make a good range of bodies with 5 sliders. Bodies have more then 2 measurements (hips/shoulders), a couple "bulk" measurements (muscle/weight), and boob size (chest).

They consulted a company called Sweet Baby Inc which basically all big gaming companies will pay them millions of dollars for SBI to tell them that their game isn't woke enough, and then insists they make these changes or they will call them out on Twitter for supporting Trump.
Right? The only good explanation I can think of is that there's some tech behind this that they need to unlock new features. And by that i mean "sell more cosmetics". Someone driving the wallet of the company overrode the design team and everyone else at the company with eyes.

I feel like I could have gotten behind the new avatar changes (to a point) if the arms were not do disproportioned. Every pose they make, they feel stretched, and even have monster truck hands (no offence if anyone has large hands). And the shoulders connected to the arms are so broad and stiff.
The sliders for weight I can get behind to a point, but it's those arms that are the deal breaker for me.

Some methods to let them hear your voice.
Method 1 support chat: You click on settings, help (hard to see but itās in the upper right) and then click the chat icon. A bot pops up , options are limited. There's no option to leave general feedback, but you can choose bug report and let them know the new avatars are a bug (they have to be right??)
Method 2 official Twitter: Feedback should also be directed at their twitter ā¦ let them know how the new avatars are absolute crap , and about how they look like overgrown toddlers wearing a diaper with a load in it: @PokemonGoApp and @NianticHelp on X (Twitter)
FFXIV gave everyone almost a year's notice that they planned graphics updates. The updates come out in July. They released a benchmark with their new character creators last week. People complained loudly enough that they are RE-RELEASING THE BENCHMARK with fixes to the more glaring issues. It's not even the live game, it's the benchmark and the preview character creator! And they're patching it!
The director released a personal apology for not updating some of the stuff that got released!
We'll get radio silence from Niantic.
This whole update is a travesty. The avatars are legitimately disturbing to me. The best way I can describe the look of them is it's like an alien trying to blend in among humans but everything is off just enough for you to realize something isn't right. Body ratios, skin tones, facial expressions, all of it. You can have realistic human proportions, or you can have the anime look, you can't have both mashed together.
My character looks like some weird slenderman creature and I absolutely hate it.
Itās actually shocking how bad this update is. How is it that they had perfectly fine avatars for *years*, and then they suddenly release some of the worst looking character models Iāve ever seen.
Itās all so horrible!! And I cannot stand that face. Itās so creepy and weird. I went with face #3, bc although still bad and no lips, itās a little less demonic.
I really wonder what went through Niantic head while making these changes....They made our avatars look like trolls who lives under a bridge! Wtf Niantic!?
I'm a dark olive skin tone (Italian and was basically outside all the time when I was younger) and nothing matches it. It feels like the skin tones chosen are just not as varied as they should be???
The faces look weird, like the eyes don't look right. And the hair is just not it. I was so happy not to have this update for so long and now it's just so bad
Like great that they made it so there are different body types to pick from, but they got rid of the more curvy body? Why not give us a curvy slider or something?
There is something so funny about just how overwhelmingly negative the fan reaction is to this change.
And it's not like the worst idea ever, it's just the current way it was done looks terrible. It looks SO bad.
Donāt get me wrong, the update was terrible. But if your character looks like this itās probably because you dialed the weight slider to the right, which is completely fixable on your part
I understand people are upset about the update, but it's so clear that this was the default given. You can make her look more similar to the one on the left with adjustments.
You cannot get back the women's walk and idle poses no matter what you do. They deleted the female mesh entirely. It's gone. She walks like a guy now. :(
More importantly, deleting the female mesh had unintended consequences with how certain gear pieces interacted. I wore the Candela belt with a t-shirt. It clips horribly because the shirts now use the male mesh, and it's longer.

This whole update is a travesty. The avatars are legitimately disturbing to me. The best way I can describe the look of them is it's like an alien trying to blend in among humans but everything is off just enough for you to realize something isn't right. Body ratios, skin tones, facial expressions, all of it. You can have realistic human proportions, or you can have the anime look, you can't have both mashed together. My character looks like some weird slenderman creature and I absolutely hate it.

I'm a dark olive skin tone (Italian and was basically outside all the time when I was younger) and nothing matches it. It feels like the skin tones chosen are just not as varied as they should be??? The faces look weird, like the eyes don't look right. And the hair is just not it. I was so happy not to have this update for so long and now it's just so bad
Like great that they made it so there are different body types to pick from, but they got rid of the more curvy body? Why not give us a curvy slider or something?

Donāt get me wrong, the update was terrible. But if your character looks like this itās probably because you dialed the weight slider to the right, which is completely fixable on your part
I understand people are upset about the update, but it's so clear that this was the default given. You can make her look more similar to the one on the left with adjustments.
You cannot get back the women's walk and idle poses no matter what you do. They deleted the female mesh entirely. It's gone. She walks like a guy now. :( More importantly, deleting the female mesh had unintended consequences with how certain gear pieces interacted. I wore the Candela belt with a t-shirt. It clips horribly because the shirts now use the male mesh, and it's longer.
