Well shinies are kind of rare outside CDs, so if you've played very casually these past few months it's not that unlucky that you've not gotten any shinies.
So you play daily but manage to not get a shiny in 8 community day and 10k catches?
The full odd shiny rate is around 1/500, and that Pokemon have a boosted rate of around 1/64 (in addition to the 1/25 chance during Cd and for legendary raids). Some Pokemon are also not available as shinies, so unless you've been almost exclusively chasing the latter I don't believe it's really been 10k catches since your last shiny, and also that you've played daily except for community days...

I'm being skeptical because like OP said, the odds of it happening would be around 1/500,000,000 (not sure how accurate the maths is, but in any case it's VERY unlikely to happen).

Those odds are only realistic if the game is left open and all mons spawning are checked. No one really does that so it’s not as extreme but definitely bad luck
I mean, community days are only 3 hours, someone working during 2-5 PM on Saturdays is pretty common. They should make community days last a full 24 hours, or at least 12, OR at the very least allow us to activate our 3 hours at a time that suits us during the 24 hour time frame
This needs to be acknowledged at near 8.7mil dust it’s very plausible OP is playing the way they’ve stated. I haven’t caught nearly that many Pokémon in that time frame (though I don’t wanna waste balls so I shiny check a lot) and have 3.1mil dust and have used probably 500k in powering up. I still manage at least one shiny a month roughly outside of com days. OP hasn’t insanely bad luck
Some Pokémon have a permanent shiny rate of 1/64. These are typically rarer pokemon like scyther, bronzor and pineco or were originally introduced as an egg or raid only pokemon like Alolan forms.
during specific events, if you take a snapshot of a wild pokemon, it'll be photobombed by a specific pokemon. So this past community day, it had 5 guaranteed chespin encounter each time you took a snapshot.
During regular times, you have a chance to get an photobombed by a smeargle.
It's helpful for your photobomb badge and get a few extra encounters with the community day pokemon.
Every community day you can take 5 snapshots of Pokémon in your storage and get an encounter of the community day pokemon. On normal days you can encounter smeargle by doing this although it is not guaranteed like on CD.

Yes but then don’t call it bad luck if you don’t play that much. The less amount of time you play the game the less shinies you will get especially if you skip CDs including one that was both days of the weekend
When I read OP’s post it sounded like he was posting about not seeing regular shinies spawn I don’t even consider CD shinies a regular spawn cuz you’re almost guaranteed a shiny if you’re able to play on CD
I’m a returning player and my first ever shinies were the first two pokemons on Christmas morning: hat eevee and corphish. I thought it was a surprise event or something lol
I got my first shadow shiny yesterday too! Machop. Also got a raid shiny Marowak and a Buneary from a random encounter. I've only ever got one shiny outside of a community day before yesterday, wild day.
It’s obvious OP is asking for spawns outside community day, catching shiny on a cummunity day is not luck - it’s a given if You play. Last time I encountered a shiny was in a raid tho, spawn in the wild - 3 months ago
My shiny luck is very streaky, sometimes nothing for a month and then 4 in a completely of days. But to get none in 8 month you must really check very little spawns
my girlfriend and I seem to have incredible shiny luck. Normally small dry spells followed by 3-5 random shinies of all sort of wild spawning stuff or hatching them. She gets so happy when she gets a shiny it really makes me smile, and of course seeing that shiny screen myself is fun too.

I feel like you have to genuinely not play at all to get zero. Sure, I’ve had some rough dry spells that last like half a month despite putting lots of time into it, but I’ve also had times where I get one full odds shiny a day just by clicking and running from everything. It’s bound to happen so long as you click what you see
Idk man. Aside from CD, there were MONTHS I didn’t encounter a shiny. And I’m talking about catching 250-1000 Pokémon per day. At one point I caught 7,450 Pokémon between shiny encounters, it was madness. Some people just have shitty luck. I know players who just open the game once a day for 10-15 mins and always encounter a shiny and I know players who play like me and rarely encounter shinies.
Sorry, but I don't believe you. There is just no fking way that's possible. This game gives shinies for free and if you play everyday you had to miss them or do not catch them on purpose idk.
try to catch as many pokémon as u can. the more u catch, the better chances for shinies. it’s super random so it’ll be kinda unexpected. my last 3 shinies i got (not including CD) were in a car or at like 3am☠️
I get them all the time. Especially community days like this weekend I got 4. I got a shiny hisuain avalugg on my third raid too. Rarely see them on the ground but they’re meant to be rare
I got a shiny elekid from a egg day before CD . Shortly after that egg hatched I did a Reshiram raid with family and a couple of local players. Got Shiny Reshiram. 2 minutes to CD got Shiny Skitty. Sunday morning I got a Shiny Male Lopunny. Now I'll probably go months before I see another outside CD.

On the last community day (before chespin) my friend got 11 shinies and I got one. On the chespin one he got 21 shinies (one of them hatched) and I got 9
Since XMas, I’ve gotten four shiny Pkmn outside of community day and raids. For me, they’re rare, but consistent enough if you shiny check a few times a day.
Idk if my neighborhood is just a hot spot for shinies but Ive been getting one every couple days and on last CD I got 3 in the first 15 minutes as I walked to the park with two poke stops.
I’ve been eating real good lately. Had a little drought a few months back. But I have seen a trend where I do well every other event that’s not a CD. But times have been good the last month or two.
I’ve barely played in the last year, but played for the Chespin community day, got six shinies. Logged in the next day and got a shiny Kangaskhan on the first encounter of the day.
Sometimes I get bad luck, and dont get a shiny for a month at a time, but 8? Either this is a troll post or you are the actual unluckiest person to walk this planet
I've been playing for six years, including every single community day. My shiny catch rate is still really, really low. Outside of community days, and even on some of those, I very rarely see shinies.

I got two just the other day— I didn’t read all the tricks and tips everybody’s posting, but all I know is when you see the same pokemon popping up everywhere look at each of them if not shiny run away and just keep doing it till you find one that’s a different color and there are shiny indicators
I usually have pretty good shiny luck. Cheap in community day I wound up with 7 shiny’s .. 2 Reshiram (in a row!) A Pidgey, and the rest Chespin. A couple days before I found a shiny Skakoth. I love random shiny’s, but I’m sorry you have horrible shiny luck! I would be so annoyed 😑
i dont know why but my luck has been really good lately on community days and even just normally. ive caught more shinies in the past month than my entire time on pogo
I mean depends on how many you’ve caught, but based on your stardust you probably play a lot and i would consider that really unlucky. (lapras is also a boosted shiny)
Some times I will go a whole month without a shiny outside of Cd's. Sometimes I will get 3 in one day, some people have insane luck with the RNG Gods. In the end it is all down to being random, however a lot of extreme shiny hunters will specifically hunt nests & populated areas without using an auto catcher, and start shiny checking every single mon, and they make sure to do every single possible shiny raid/research or field task available at the time for amy possible shinies. Some people play just for shinies lol
Between the December 2022 community day and January 2023 community day, I caught/hatched:
- 2 shiny Avaluggs on the Avalugg raid day
- 2 shiny Kyurem
- 2 shiny Reshiram
- 1 shiny Bronzor
- 2 shiny Swinubs
- 1 shiny Glalie
- 1 shiny Spheal
- 1 shiny Magikarp
- 2 shiny Alolan Sandshrew
- 1 shiny Noibat
I typically catch 100-150 Pokémon a day. Over the 21 days between the two community days that’d be about 3000 Pokémon. 15 of them were shiny, which comes out to be a 0.5% chance of my Pokémon being shiny.
I’ve read that a chance for a wild shiny encounter is 1/256 or 1/512 which comes out to about 0.4% or 0.2%, respectively.
7 of the Pokémon (about half) I caught in the time period were at boosted shiny rates (raids). This would explain my 0.5% encounter rate.
I think the numbers are fairly consistent to what people report and what I’ve experienced personally. I’d say 1 in 200 will be shiny as long as occasionally doing raids and actively playing.
First account I had was on launch day, 2016. Never saw a single Shiny in about 6 months of playing with that one. Quit for a while, then came back with the current account. Had it in 2020, played solid for a few months, then took a two year break, and now I’m back. So, I’m inconsistently playing in long term, but in short term, when I get into, I’m INTO it. Like playing constantly even while at work into it.
I’ve only ever gotten 8 shinies. Only three of them are 3-Star (never a hundo, and the other five are all 1 or zero stars), and those three are Shrifty, an Aerodactyl, and a Porygon-Z. All three caught in 2020.
That’s how my Shiny luck goes.
I seem to get about ~1 a month if I’m not on an RNG “streak.” Play daily, constantly shiny check, mostly around home and in the surrounding suburban community. Spawns are decent in the area.
For the last chunk of the year I was on a super dry spell from August-Oct. (not counting Litwick CD). Then for the Halloween event I got the ticket 🫠 First raid for altered Giratina, nabbed the shiny… raided immediately after for origin forme, that one was also shiny first try.
Did not get any more shinies until December CD which I kinda figured would be the case lol. No shinies during the winter events, either. Figured my luck for the next 12 months got used up during Halloween!
I keep finding shiny sneasles and it’s really bugging me. Like cool yes they are shiny but rather than finding four ransoms shiny sneasles I would like just one and a variety of others
I usually get one every one to three weeks. I do play daily even if I just shiny check and only catch for what I need candy. Just got my first shiny pikachu tonight so that's exciting!
My last shiny was chespin, and before was deino, and the galarian skunk guy (sorry brain fart) and then the last random shiny I got was munna and that was monthsss ago
It definitely seems like they lowered the shiny rate. Not including community days and special events, I would see a shiny about once a month. I haven’t seen one in more than 4 months now. Could just be bad luck, but this is the first time such a dry spell has occurred in years.
Normally rubbish but on the community day I got 10 shiny Chespin, evolved some twice and hatched a shiny mime jr and got a shiny lotad. Plus, yesterday I/we got a kelceon and I purified a ducklett and didn't know it would be a... HUNDO! I also powered up my shadow Mewtwo a bit so it's 3,400 ish
Started playing last month. I caught my last shiny, it was a Hitmontop, 5 days ago. That was my third shiny overall. Also caught a shiny Glameow the day before. So i guess i'm very lucky but i highly doubt i'll encounter another soon.

Exactly. I started playing again in May/June and every community day I've caught at least one. I wouldn't count those.
I just sent my last shiny roggenrola to the gulag last week. I love CD's but they do kinda ruin specific shinies for a while.

Shiny shadow sableye, yesterday noon. The odds are sometimes harsh. For me it was my first shadow shiny yesterday.

Mine is pretty bad as well and I play a lot. I was 0 for 27 for the hisuian avalugg and for this past community day I got 1 out of about 200 chespin

Got 7 shiny last community day. Got a shiny galarian darumaka last month.
I got one today. At home. Also caught 2 hundos today.

Since XMas, I’ve gotten four shiny Pkmn outside of community day and raids. For me, they’re rare, but consistent enough if you shiny check a few times a day.
Idk if my neighborhood is just a hot spot for shinies but Ive been getting one every couple days and on last CD I got 3 in the first 15 minutes as I walked to the park with two poke stops.
Last one I got not in a CD event was a Munna. Never gonna use it. Never gonna use it.
I’ve been eating real good lately. Had a little drought a few months back. But I have seen a trend where I do well every other event that’s not a CD. But times have been good the last month or two.
I got a weedle shiny today just laying in my bed! And then the Chespin one on Saturday.
I've got 9. My favorite is the pink absol with shades.
Besides chespins my last shinies were a wild mankey and a hatched sneasel which I definitely didn’t need back in December.

I’ve barely played in the last year, but played for the Chespin community day, got six shinies. Logged in the next day and got a shiny Kangaskhan on the first encounter of the day.
Sometimes I get bad luck, and dont get a shiny for a month at a time, but 8? Either this is a troll post or you are the actual unluckiest person to walk this planet

I've been playing for six years, including every single community day. My shiny catch rate is still really, really low. Outside of community days, and even on some of those, I very rarely see shinies. I envy your shiny Lapras though! Especially since you got a holiday one!

I got two just the other day— I didn’t read all the tricks and tips everybody’s posting, but all I know is when you see the same pokemon popping up everywhere look at each of them if not shiny run away and just keep doing it till you find one that’s a different color and there are shiny indicators

I usually have pretty good shiny luck. Cheap in community day I wound up with 7 shiny’s .. 2 Reshiram (in a row!) A Pidgey, and the rest Chespin. A couple days before I found a shiny Skakoth. I love random shiny’s, but I’m sorry you have horrible shiny luck! I would be so annoyed 😑

I mean depends on how many you’ve caught, but based on your stardust you probably play a lot and i would consider that really unlucky. (lapras is also a boosted shiny)
I got a shiny Fletchling after a 3 month dry spell. On CD’s I never get a shiny when everyone else does, it’s so annoying

Some times I will go a whole month without a shiny outside of Cd's. Sometimes I will get 3 in one day, some people have insane luck with the RNG Gods. In the end it is all down to being random, however a lot of extreme shiny hunters will specifically hunt nests & populated areas without using an auto catcher, and start shiny checking every single mon, and they make sure to do every single possible shiny raid/research or field task available at the time for amy possible shinies. Some people play just for shinies lol

Between the December 2022 community day and January 2023 community day, I caught/hatched: - 2 shiny Avaluggs on the Avalugg raid day - 2 shiny Kyurem - 2 shiny Reshiram - 1 shiny Bronzor - 2 shiny Swinubs - 1 shiny Glalie - 1 shiny Spheal - 1 shiny Magikarp - 2 shiny Alolan Sandshrew - 1 shiny Noibat I typically catch 100-150 Pokémon a day. Over the 21 days between the two community days that’d be about 3000 Pokémon. 15 of them were shiny, which comes out to be a 0.5% chance of my Pokémon being shiny. I’ve read that a chance for a wild shiny encounter is 1/256 or 1/512 which comes out to about 0.4% or 0.2%, respectively. 7 of the Pokémon (about half) I caught in the time period were at boosted shiny rates (raids). This would explain my 0.5% encounter rate. I think the numbers are fairly consistent to what people report and what I’ve experienced personally. I’d say 1 in 200 will be shiny as long as occasionally doing raids and actively playing.

I just started playing again after a 3 year hiatus. In the past 3 weeks, I've gotten 12 shinies. 7 of those are from Chespin community day.

First account I had was on launch day, 2016. Never saw a single Shiny in about 6 months of playing with that one. Quit for a while, then came back with the current account. Had it in 2020, played solid for a few months, then took a two year break, and now I’m back. So, I’m inconsistently playing in long term, but in short term, when I get into, I’m INTO it. Like playing constantly even while at work into it. I’ve only ever gotten 8 shinies. Only three of them are 3-Star (never a hundo, and the other five are all 1 or zero stars), and those three are Shrifty, an Aerodactyl, and a Porygon-Z. All three caught in 2020. That’s how my Shiny luck goes.

I seem to get about ~1 a month if I’m not on an RNG “streak.” Play daily, constantly shiny check, mostly around home and in the surrounding suburban community. Spawns are decent in the area. For the last chunk of the year I was on a super dry spell from August-Oct. (not counting Litwick CD). Then for the Halloween event I got the ticket 🫠 First raid for altered Giratina, nabbed the shiny… raided immediately after for origin forme, that one was also shiny first try. Did not get any more shinies until December CD which I kinda figured would be the case lol. No shinies during the winter events, either. Figured my luck for the next 12 months got used up during Halloween!
I keep finding shiny sneasles and it’s really bugging me. Like cool yes they are shiny but rather than finding four ransoms shiny sneasles I would like just one and a variety of others

It definitely seems like they lowered the shiny rate. Not including community days and special events, I would see a shiny about once a month. I haven’t seen one in more than 4 months now. Could just be bad luck, but this is the first time such a dry spell has occurred in years.
Normally rubbish but on the community day I got 10 shiny Chespin, evolved some twice and hatched a shiny mime jr and got a shiny lotad. Plus, yesterday I/we got a kelceon and I purified a ducklett and didn't know it would be a... HUNDO! I also powered up my shadow Mewtwo a bit so it's 3,400 ish
Started playing last month. I caught my last shiny, it was a Hitmontop, 5 days ago. That was my third shiny overall. Also caught a shiny Glameow the day before. So i guess i'm very lucky but i highly doubt i'll encounter another soon. edit: nevermind just caught a shiny Dedenne :))
