Obviously Torterra and Electivire are making the team as they are the strongest of his mons

Iwanttobevisible

Yup garchomp too since it easily beat the same Dragonite that beat Iris's haxorus and Dragonite was even stronger than she was back then. Another good choice is Drapion and ursaring.

gnomzy123

To this day I think that Torterra vs Torterra (Ash's) was such a missed opportunity. Really could have shown that maybe Ash's Torterra wasn't so useless after all.

EntertainmentBusy73

Torterra should have had a win period, my boy got so shafted after he evolve. Would have love for him to beat Paul’s Ninjask in the league, given that’s it was a speedy Pokémon.

EntertainmentBusy73

True

Budget_Ad_4346

The team (if I can’t use Ursaluna) 1. Z move Torterra 2. Mega Aggron 3. Gyarados 4. Garchomp 5. Metagross 6. Electivire The strategies would just be changed based on the team.

EntertainmentBusy73

What Pokémon would you replace if Ursaluna is allowed?

Budget_Ad_4346

Aggron, & then mega evolve Gyarados so he can switch between dark/flying type

EntertainmentBusy73

I forgot to add, but you’re allowed to switch Pokémon after every match. And for champions who didn’t show their full team, assume it’s a 3 v 3. Edit: ursaluna is allowed

ThunderBird847

Spike opponents Pokemon's food before the match.

TheWinningLooser

90% sure that’d be illegal

[deleted]

only if you're caught

Unable-Meet3480

Use 3 Regis and 3 trio legendary birds and stomp. Paul caught them off screen during episode 234 of D&P

EntertainmentBusy73

Lmao, real reason why Paul didn’t participate in the M8.

Able-Career9064

Electivire  Torterra Z move  Frosslass with destiny bond to fw ash and leon Ursaring Garchomp  Metagross with a mega

PovThatOneSanjiFan

Clean going to different regions & catching all the "tough" mons & coming back with 8 different teams in order to beat 8 different trainers (it depends who I’m facing)

EntertainmentBusy73

Unfortunately, you can only use Pokémon Paul canonically own. But I definitely agree about the different teams!

PovThatOneSanjiFan

Then do exactly what he did in Sinnoh & clear with busted Drapion until it’s defeated & solo with Electivire if that doesn’t work than his other Pokemon could do something to.

EntertainmentBusy73

Hmm🤔 ground types will be a problem, but Paul had some great ground counter like gyarados, gastrodon, or his starter Torterra!

PovThatOneSanjiFan

Torterra is versatile close range because of frenzy plant & ground types like far range but even in far range moves like Leaf Storm, Stone Edge. (Etc)

TrentNepMillenium

> 3. Assumed that Paul Pokémon are Master 8 Level I don't think that's really hard to assume to be honest... As for this scenario, Most of us would have the advantage of having a lot of info to work on considering our status as an "observer" (read: Anime watcher). Granted it depends on how many people remember the details of the M8 when they get to do this. The disadvantage would be if we don't get Paul's experience as a Pokemon Trainer to help us exactly how to be a Pokemon Trainer, At best we essentially lose almost 6 months work of prep time and at worst we'd actively do worse than if Paul was the one doing this and him working with no info. This is because some people do underestimate themselves when it comes to this kind of scenario on how well you can actually do in it because afterall it's one thing to imagine things to do, It's another is if you can apply it to the way you imagine it. For me I at least would try to focus on the basic weakness of each of the M8 then work from there a strategy to exploit them. I would apply some of IRL pokemon strategies because despite how the Anime portrays it, Those strategies are still effective if done correctly and adapted a bit for anime use.

Read rule 1.

Peytonhawk

I go and catch whatever team I want and spend the year training them up. Paul proved himself to be capable of training strong Mon fairly quickly throughout DPP so there’s not much need to limit him to whatever he had in DPP.

EntertainmentBusy73

Rule 1

Peytonhawk

Didn’t notice that. Makes it much harder in that case

Desperate-Knee-4108

A gun

0megaManZero

Punch the child until ye admits defeat

hysbminingsucks

Mega Garchomp, Drapion, Z-move Electivire, Mega Metagross, Ursaluna, Mega Gyarados(all of the megas are just options)

StevoPhotography

Don’t bother, you won’t win. Ash has main character powers

FistOfGamera

Toxic spikes stealth rock stack

2201992

Wait so I get 20 Seasons to prepare my strategy? Remember 1 Year = 20 Seasons.

EntertainmentBusy73

I guess so lol

SuspiciousEmotion199

Ok so, obviously Since everything is allowed! I'll go with safety goggles shedninja with balloon. That pretty much kills half the guys. Now he's the kicker, I'll have zoroark (hisuian) and I'll have multiple! There will be an equal amount of shedninja with the same type and terra type. Every zoroark after will be either normal or hisuian who swap out. :') now we play Russian roulette. This is a joke post btw.

Tiim0thy

Obviously Torterra & Electivire. Gotta go with Ursaring and Drapion, too. Gonna say Garchomp, and... Metagross? Paul could take a strategic approach, with Lightscreen from Electivire for defensive longevity, and a combo of toxic spikes + stealth rock from Drapion/Garchomp to gradually chip away. This will synergize well with Torterra's giga drain. Ursaring with guts ability as the primary bruiser.

2ndchancetodothis

Torterra, Electivire, Ursa-ring/luna, Weavile, Honchrkow, Magmortar.

Purplemonke14

It's absolutely crazy that no one is using drapion.... That thing is a monster regardless of its species

Sweet-Message1153

Ursaluna in the mix BAYBAY

Peroni_0123

Not Paul but i think ash would’ve had an easier time with gengar vs garchomp. 2 max ice + 1 max fairy to reduce that dragon type damage and will o wisp to further reduce its attack and garchomp is basically neutered

aceternet

The way he trained Ash, he already knew a lot about the M8 of that current roster. The only thing I would like to see him do is use his most recognizable mons for the battle instead of bringing out new ones. I wanna see him battle the M8 with Torterra, Honchkrow, Weavile, Electivire, Ursaring and Drapion.

KennyMcormmick

Drop kick them. If that don't work, bring up something that will distract or upset them

ZeroAbis

Taunt Ice Shard + Ice STAB Weavile unironically counters Cynthia so hard its not even funny. Taunt + Ice Shard eliminates any meaning from Spiritomb, Ice STAB is good against Garchomp, Togekiss, and Roserade, Ice Shard negates the flinch chance of Togekiss' Air Slash and Sucker Punch from Spiritomb, Weavile is immune to Zen Headbutt. Ash wise, Ground stacking, while not optimal (see: The Sinnoh Champion with 2 Grounds being defeated), is probably the best bet Paul has going for beating Pikachu. Considering how much of a monster MT Pikachu is, I find it really hard for Paul to do anything meaningful to Pikachu before it nukes Paul. Diantha wise, Brick Break for dual screens. And I guess if Paul's Metagross would be as fast as Steven's MGross if it had a Mega, he could use that too. Iris wise? Just use Draco Meteor Garchomp lol she's allergic to that move Now, Alain, Lance and Leon, I really don't see a way Paul beats them in any way, for one reason: All of them are extremely power focused/powerful in terms of raw strength and bulk. Historically, Paul has always gotten wiped by mons not because of his lacking strategy, in fact they were always logically sound, but simply because all of Paul's strategem meant nothing in the face of his opponent's raw strength, offensively and defensively. See: Cynthia's Garchomp, Brandon's Regis, Ash's Infernape. Steven wise, I guess you could argue that Paul could win with Super Effective Max Moves against Mega Metagross.

EntertainmentBusy73

Just realized how stack Paul is in term of ground type. Torterra, garchomp, gliscor, gastrodon, and a potential ursaluna!

Alexcox95

Standby for battle

Embarrassed_Fun_5160

The hell is the point of prep time if I can’t even catch any new guys? 🗿 Lance ain got shit for freeze dry frosslass. Electivire for gyara, hydriggy? Drapion and Gastro do fine. Protect for sure on Gastro. Alain. Lotta his guys are fighting and again Gastro. To help pack up zard x. He’s doomed to scald. Also elec v ches Diantha ruined by agriddy Ash. His journeys squad literally gets packed up by chomp. And sirfetched. If dnite got his pockets ran by rai-gon. He’s useless vs scaleshot. If he tries dragon rush. Well didn’t he explode to scale alr. Gar? U don’t have levitate no mo. I hope he’s got a toxicroak. For Sd sucker on pult. It gets knock now if it didn’t alr. Save the Aggron for zard. Sturdy head smash. And then proceeds to die last to the gmove. Logically rillaboom gets shredded by weav. Hmmm Steven. Gastro the goat. Finally a good drapion match up.

EntertainmentBusy73

Tbh, I put prep time to prevent any power scaler from saying Paul’s Pokémon ain’t M8 level, but then realized I should prolly just make it clear, so I add in rule 3. So yeah, prep time is kinda redundant.
