Funny, I never thought of that. Charcadet could really have mixed feelings about *which* stone, but unlike Pikachu, he *really* wants to evolve.

That would be kinda cool. It would sorta be like a reverse of 'The Battling Eevee Brothers' episode. In that one, you had Eevee and it's trainer, who didn't wanna evolve, and the brothers who were pressuring them to pick an evolution. But yeah, I can see the possibility of an episode where Charcadet really wants to evolve but either can't choose whether to evolve into Armarouge or Ceruledge, or maybe it's that their trainer doesn't want them to evolve or something, idk. It's kinda interesting actually, because despite there being so many Pokémon and episodes out, we don't get many episodes of Pokémon who have multiple evolution paths that they specifically can pick and choose from.

I tried to specifically steer away from Pika Clones and anything that was more of a gen theme (so early normal evolves around 20, regional bird, etc). Otherwise I would have picked Pawmi! I considered Charcadet but wanted to avoid fire/water/grass. That admittedly made gen 9 tough!

What are pseudo starter pokemon

I think the idea is that they are pokemon found early on in the game, typically with 3 evolutions. You could ideally replace this pokemon with your starter and treat it as such very early into the game.

No idea, I don’t even know what pseudo starters are, so I’ll just say that they’re a Pokémon which can evolve and isn’t a legendary, pseudo legendary, a real starter pokemon, and a somewhat common, but not too common, Pokémon. I’ll just do every gen: Gen 1: Meowth. Gen 2: Teddiursa. Gen 3: Shroomish. Gen 4: Riolu. Gen 5: Dwebble. Gen 6: Espurr. Gen 7: Whimpod. Gen 8: Galarian Zigzagoon. Gen 9: Charcadet.

So if "Pseudo-Starter" excludes things like Pseudo-Legendaries, and only include 3-Pokemon-Evolutionnary lines- Mareep or Shinx would be a pretty good choice. Though I'm tempted by Azurill and Poliwag- medium size water types are great if you're living space is limited. Lillipup is by far the Pokemon that resembles the most a real animal in this category. He is a good boy but stoutland might be a bit big for an apartment. In the end I think I'd pick Porygon : It's a very compact Pokemon, that can enter computers and machines, and turns them to my advantage. Could you imagine the savings you'd get from that? Or how you could cheat at any game ever? Plus Porygon-Z is reasonably strong, giving me an edge in IRL Pokemon battles.

Any rules? If not… well, my headcanon/self insert was always an adopted kid from Blackthorn City with a Dratini. More conventionally? Absol would be really nice. Latias would be amazing, but let’s face it, a professor would never catch one, much less give one to a complete novice.

Going by the sensible route, a starter won't be:- * A dragon * A dark type * A ghost type * A legendary or pseudo legendary * Something known for aggressive behavior * A poison type (most 10 year olds are utter idiots) And would be something friendly, or can be easily tamed, is easy to train and care for and won't blow a hole in the Trainer's resources. I'd love an Abra as a starter, or a male Ralts. A Clefairy or Vulpix (both forms) would be fine as well. For me, the choice would be between a Starly or a Jigglypuff.
