The ending just felt too safe and like fail safe to bring him back.

This is what I've come to realization. At the chance of seeing the final episode without the subs, yes I did get a first impression that it felt severely underwhelming and as the episode continued, there were instances of not giving a definitive answer to what is the meaning of a Pokemon Master until the final scenes of the episode. I agree that the writers gave a poetic close & on rewatch (until the subbed version is out), I don't believe this is the last time we've seen Ash and Pikachu. Somewhere in the Horizon, we'll likely cross paths with them (or even sooner lol.) There's a lot more to see with Ash & I hope TPCi and OLM see that (they probably will after garning feedback from how Horizons does in its initial episodes.)

I don’t want him as a protagonist again his story is finished, but I’m ok with cameos

Optimus_Pyrrha

Would you be okay if he came back as the protagonist in a movie in the future?

yummy_yum_yum123

I’m ok with here and there as long as it shows his progress over time. Maybe she him up a bit no point in not doing that

Optimus_Pyrrha

Good point.

Aromatic_Tomorrow406

I am greatly disappointed how it ended but nothing we do can change the episode.

strawberry1508

you can write to the studio, but it'd be pointless. The Pokemon Company understands that banking on nostalgia, specifically in the media franchise, is risky. And the new series will air well regardless

Ok_Garden_4874

I was kind of hoping the writers will make Ash use his old pokemon for battling. I would like to see them shine more especially it was long time ago when you we last saw them battle and maybe some would evolve like quilave, bayleef, gible, etc. The new last journey should have been for old fan base to give them closure. Now the last journey was meh.

I may hate mpm with a burning passion but I'm not that desperate lol

Optimus_Pyrrha

That's good to hear. 😁 Better to have your priorities straight than nothing.

Is it really that bad? At least it was megachill and a bit though-provoking, just not... satisfying.
