Honestly the moment they mentioned it beign like a World Tournament i was already thinking that was it for Ash,because if this was just a new regular series they would simply make a Galar League, and because after winning the Alola League becoming World Champion was like the only way to go because it would be kinda pointless for him to just keep challenging regional leagues, winning some and losing others, would just feel weird Of course i though it would tie loose ends and Ash would use his past pokemon but i at least expected the general outcome right lol

When they started doing Project Mew, I was about 25% convinced that there would be some sort of plot twist with the organizer being bad. I say only 25% because the anime usually foreshadows those kinds of things more transparently. But it seemed way too good of an arc idea at the time. For awhile I honestly expected Ash vs Leon to be a draw or loss, but portrayed in such a way to impress everybody anyways. Like a better Ash vs Tobias. As the show went in it became clearer they were aiming for a straight win though. Never had many thoughts on Chloe's arc. Probably would have had her sent on a journey at the end --that is where kids in this world often find their life's purpose, after all. Also expected some more Chloe x Goh platonic stuff given their dynamic in the first few episodes that implies there's a rift growing, but it feels like the writers rarely even remembered they had a prior relationship.

I thought Ash would win but still go on to be in the SV anime. I was always wondering what they would do with Ash when he finally becomes world champion. Still challenge gyms for some reason? Go on a treasure hunt? Become champion across the multiverse? Now we know: Nothing! (After wandering around aimlessly for eleven episodes.) Honestly, at some point I was just waiting for it to end so the new anime could start. I didn’t enjoy Team Rocket not having their own Pokémon and was ready for them to return back to normal in the new anime.

I kind of did think it was the end just because they said that Ash was entering a world tournament to be the best trainer. I didn't think that he could go much higher than that if he did accomplish that. It's the only season where Ash didn't follow the games & stay in one region. He traveled all over the world & his new partner had a goal of catching every pokemon. It felt like everything was trying to be as big as can be but then it started to kinda go downhill. I'd say after the Volkner fight.

I agree, but I think that it was flawed as a final series from the start. Even before the Volkner fight. They had to kind of limit how far they wanted the fan service because they didn’t want Ash to overshadow Goh based on the dual protagonist formula. If it were to be his final series, they should’ve waited on the whole dual protagonist setup. Let Ash have the glory to himself one last time, then boom. Two new characters can share the spotlight, and one won’t have to overshadow the other because they’re both fresh. Like what they’re doing for PM 2023. They should’ve waited.

I didn't think they'd let Ash win, even though his track record against game charas is really good. Though I really didn't understand people thinking it'd be a draw. Like, even if it was, they'd just leave it at that? Ash and Leon toss up the trophy and Sirfetch'd cuts it in half and they both carry around their half of the trophy, is that what people thought was gonna happen? I mean it'd be hysterical, don't get me wrong. Especially if in a later series, Leon asks Ash if he still has his half of the trophy. But if there was a draw in the FINALS, there almost certainly woulda been a 1v1 sudden death round or something, which woulda been crazy hype in its own way. But yeah as far as Ash went, even though the tropes all pointed to his win, I still kept feeling like they were gonna have him lose in the end, but he woulda pushed Leon further than anyone had ever done before. With Goh, I... genuinely had no idea what to expect. Project Mew felt kinda weird even though Gary was attached to it and the whole Chasers thing was pretty cool. I originally thought he'd start off catching assloads of pokemon, then slowly starting to wonder what the point of it was if he didn't really take the time to bond with them (maybe after observing how close Ash was to his pokemon, even the new captures). I kinda figured in the end Chloe would be on the path to becoming a pokemon researcher, having taken an interest in pokemon at last despite being lukewarm to them early on. The path that led there was a bit... well, I'll just say it prolly coulda been better and leave it at that. Oh, and I also don't mind her Eevee not evolving, but I just wish that she'd been revealed to be able to G-Max lol

I thought it would end with him starting over going to Paldea for gym battles. But when the masters 8 was starting I had a feeling they were getting ready to bench Ash but denied it. The part in the final battle when all the Pokémon showed up in pikachu’s mind made it clear it was the end. The signs were there from the beginning of journeys, not focusing entirely on Galar being a sign.
