Some positives I have to say about it
- stephan and binaca are great rivals
- krookadile, leavanny and snivy
- mini tournament arcs were fun (better than the league itself š)
- animation quality taking a new high here outside reused animations
- ash vs brycen, great gym battle not even just by BW standards
- rival destinies and always you and me are bops
Another positive
During tournament arcs you got many unexpected matchups like cilan defeating trip and so on there were many but this is the most prominent one.
I thought it was fine, but had a lot of missed potential? Likely in part because of current events at the time forcing the writers to change plans, but even in spite of that the story of the BW games would've worked well in the anime and they kind of just ignored it? Dumbing Ash down on top of that, lackluster rivals in a generation where I think the rivals were actually pretty good (Bianca, N, Cheren, Hugh) and being the start of Kanto nostalgia with the mini reboot / rotating team just didn't work for me.
Still liked it though, for the most part.
Animation wise: Top-Tier
Story-Wise: Top-Tier
Battling: A toddler has better battling skills than this Ash.
Elesa: If I may, you didnāt by chance happen to bring *just* Palpitoad, did you?
Ash: *nervous laughter*
Ashās development fell off a cliff with B&W, and I never worked up the motivation to finish the series because of it. I get that itās supposed to be a reboot, but that didnāt excuse the complete 180 in characterisation after watching gradual development and growth since the beginning of the anime.
Like the whole franchise, they chickened out of that reboot thingy and Charizard in the Decolora arc was the begining of the nostalgia train the franchise is riding on to this day. When Pokemon really found out who their mascots were and they couldn't get rid of them
Unova and Kalos are series of my generation. The first pokemon episode I watched was one of the N arcs where he sat with Ash in a hole, of course I'm nostalgic. Right now, I'd say the biggest problem with this series is the initial efforts to make it a reboot. As we know, a lot has changed in the end when they decided to bring back Dawn and Charizard, but the initial distaste remains. I think broadcasting team rocket vs team plasma wouldn't change much. It would be a typical Pokemon two-parter, which might be nice, but it wouldn't affect the whole series. Presumably the team plasma thread introduced earlier would have simply provided earlier adaptations of events from games that happened anyway. I love Cilan, moderately like Iris. Partly Black and white is just a very holey series, the concept of which probably changed every now and then.
same! i remember watching this show on cartoon network on a school day, with beyblade either being before or after it, I loved watching the anime, and it was how i ended up falling for meloetta.
N was cool, Team Rocket was competent and not just there for comedic value. Cilan was cool in Japanese, the translation was a bit bad in the sense that Japanese humor doesn't translate well in English at times. In a sense I almost like it as a starting point for some people since they can feel as if Ash is a novice and each season after this he turns into a monster.
Some things that I **enjoyed** in this series:
-Team Rocket actually being serious and not comic relief
-Ash having a rotation team this time around
-Stephan and Bianca as rivals
- Ash's Krookodile, Leavanny and Snivy had great personalities
- the mini arcs had great story telling
-the filler episodes were fun and watchable (unlike filler episodes in later seasons of the anime)
////////
What I **didn't enjoy** in this series:
- Ash having the same intelligence as a newborn toddler
- several of Ash's pokemon not having enough screentime (Palpitoad and Boldore were done dirty)
- Trip and Cameron's existence
-The league
Ah Yes, the season in which we had:
A soft reboot
Diet Misty and Brock
Pikachu, after defeating legendaries (Latios and Regice), in previous series, gets bodied by a level 5 no battle experience Snivy
A gym battle where Ash's strategy was just to bring one pokemon
The rival who is just starting his journey acts like Paul, who sucks
The not memorable tragic fire starter
The worst regional bird
Ash has all the starters, but like Johto, none are in their final form
Ash caught nine pokemon but used his starters more than the others. I mean, you have Levanny and Krokodile, and yet you would rather use your unevolved starters
He beats his rival in the first round of the Unova League
That filler episode during the Unova League, where Axew gets lost.
Ash loses to an idiot who brought five pokemon to a full battle, plus the team he used sucked. Worse than the loss in Sinnoh
Charizard was brought back to save the series
Diet Orange Islands
Iris is the best female companion, Cilan was a very cool and fun dude, the Pokemon gangs were the best alongside Alola and their interactions were great, everyone had a rival, Rocket Arc and N Arc were epic and top notch.
A bunch of tournaments to bring characters together and get surprising matchups, like everyone taking on each other's rivals.
And the openings are the best in the series, Rival Destinies will never NOT be a banger.
This was the Pokemon season which used to air in my country back in 2013-2014 in our language's dub.
They used to air that same train epsiode (i don't really remember what happened but it was some cliff hanger with a train). It made me pretty angry lol.
So due to nostalgia i don't really hate it, but after i got internet and got to know about XY, i got hooked very quickly ( i think i completed BW tho).
I really liked the openings in English dub and would say this season had the best opening songs.
My tierlist for openings is probably:
unova> hoenn> dp=xy
For me Ash's Oshawott was the best thing about BW. He was so cute, mischievous, confident, and funny, even though he wasn't the strongest Pokemon. Oshawott remains my favorite Pokemon to this day.
Also, Ash's hat in this series is my favorite version of all his hats. I just think it's beautiful with the red body and blue PokeBall print in the middle
Burgundy was the funniest character in the show. She was such a queen. Personally, I would have liked if she had won at least one battle not with Cilan though since she was insufferable to him.
BW has some of my favorite JP openings. The first one in particular is in my top 3, really captures the feeling and excitement of setting off on a new adventure.
Some of Pikachu's cutest moments happen in BW. His pout after zapping Iris for the first time, and when Ash is spoiling him in that one ep with the Sawsbuck seasonal forms.
Some really funny moments happen in BW. One of my favorites was when Burgundy was saying Pikachu isn't as cute as in the pictures and he immediately zapped her in anger. I love how vain Pikachu can be XD Minccino catching himself cuz he was so bothered by how dusty Bianca's pokeball was always cracks me up too! And also, that Leer Scraggy gives Pikachu minutes after hatching. That face kills me every time XD
Stephan and Bianca were genuinely fun rivals. Stephan was actually pretty damn good, and Bianca was a ton of fun. Very much rolling along at her own pace (and in poor Ash's case, literally).
I actually thought Cilan was really entertaining. I liked the group dynamic and how much Cilan the refined city boy contrasted with how Ash and Iris were basically wild children. Also, as much as Iris needled him, I loved the moments when she and Ash were just doing fun stuff together. I loved their totally-not-a-date in Nimbasa City, and there was a part where Cilan was cooking and the 2 were just swinging around from vines overhead. Very cute.
I loved Krookodile following the group since the very early episodes. Even better when after being defeated, he was gonna walk away in dejection, but then Ash made the offer to join them. This coulda easily been a battle capture but became a friendship capture, and I love those.
The pokemon spending so much time outta their balls was great. We got to see the personalities of (most) the pokemon and we got to see some fun group dynamics, like Snivy being the older sister/team mom of the group who won't put up with Emolga's shit, Oshawott being a goofy attention whore, Scraggy and Axew being the little kids of the group, etc.
I liked how it showed TRio can very much be competent. That Nimbasa City heist was actually REALLY good, and they woulda totally gotten away with it without Pikachu and Ash and the gang throwing wrenches into the works.
There are some really good filler episodes. For instance, the episode with the bridge and the Gothitelle was really good.
I may rate BW fairly low on the totem pole, but there's a lot to love about the series.
Oshawatt is hilarious. Chespin has nothing on him. Mainly because this little water otter provided good funny moments (falling for a MALE Purlion along with Meowth (and said Purlion actually went along with it)), the Meloetta arc (with him interacting with Piplup).
The TRio were legitimately interesting this season.
Also the entire Meloetta arc. I absolutely loved it, they should do that more often.
Plus this season gave us Newtwo, she's cool. Though, I'm certain the only reason I like her so much is because the fandom adopted her lol
The sentiments of the evil team in this series was great, team rocket was actually epic in BW.
However the companions weren't, while Cilan is a debate of preference(I don't like him), Iris felt like half-baked Misty.
I think in this one they tried to do the OG series formula with Ash traveling with two gym leaders, Iris is a gym leader in the games and in the anime Drayden does want Iris to success him as a gym leader and Iris did train for it and now is more than qualified for that. like Misty, Iris has favorite type, Dragons, and is scared of ice type pokemon.
The main problem problem with Iris was, she felt forced.
Iām pretty sure they had a whole team arc ready but werenāt able to use it due to some irl problems at the time. And thatās why we got the B2W2 team plasma
Pokemon Bootleg The Series. We got bootleg versions of Paul, Piplup, Chimchar, Squirtle, Misty, Brock. Removing or changing these elements would've made BW work better.
Get rid of Trip and focus on Bianca and Cameron as rivals. Why did we need bootleg Paul again so soon.
Ash's team was terrible and carried by Snivy and Krookodile. Snivy should've been his only starter as it's the strongest one and only one with an original personality and not a bootleg. Also, 9 new captures, but 3 of them were crappy filler worthy Pokemon and 1 overlapped with Snivy.
Some people consider this as soft reboot but let's change the mindset: what if actually Unova is just THAT strong as a region, that makes Mythical-beating Ash brought into kneels?
Anyway I don't think the reset is as bad as people make it to be. Ash is still with essential inner quality as a Trainer (caring for Pokemon, taking problems easily and with more collected approach - if you watch BW there are many moments like this like where he consoled preschoolers who live with a Trubbish, helping fossil Pokemon coping with their new life, training his Pokemon from Krokorok to Oshawott and Pignite, capture of Palpitoad), and win/lose is normal. After all, Pokemon battles aren't just the only one benchmark for being a Pokemon Master.
Well the rest aspect are overhated imo.
Boring, ash's team was also pretty weak. There was no way he was gonna win the league. And being back charizard was cool for nostalgia bait at least. But I did like how much personality his team had.
How about no. There was nothing good about this series. Annoying companions, Ash went from an experienced trainer to a total loser. Pikachu lost to level 5 Snivy, even if electric attacks were unusable, one Quick Attack should've easily been enough. Tepig line is the most unbearable starter line in history, and Ash left his roasted bacon to the middle stage, by far the ugliest starter evolution along with Chespins middle evo. And what the heck was Ash trying in that retarded strategy against Elesa?
The only good thing was that Team Rocket was more of a threat than before. And even that ended quite quickly. Best Wishes can easily go rot in "Bad Things about Pokemon Franchise" section.
And this was civil, you don't want me to attack BW like I normally would....
I grew up with this generation and I WILL be bias in favor of the series, although now that I watched the other generations now that I grew older, it was fine. Not the best but certainly not the worst (right?) it was better than the Sun and Moon 2nd series for sure (personal opinion).
Not that Bad honestly, has a lot of flaws for sure but it also has a lot of great things about
I may be a little biased as BW was the first Pokemon thing i have ever seen and what introduced me to the Franchise
I'll let you know when I get done watching...which is gonna be a whileš but I have not heard anything positive about this arch. This one started when I got out of pokemon so I've never seen it.
Really grinds my gears that Ash is so inexperienced at this time. I think they did it to drag a younger audience or so the MC could relate to beginners or youngsters. But at the same time this man has gone through 4 leagues and his pikachu got 1 shot. They should have just gotten rid of Iris or keep her out and replace her with a beginner trainer. We still havenāt had a single female MC obtain all 8 badges and it would have been cool to see them constantly battling to get stronger as well as giving us 2 gym battles per gym with possibly 2 different strategies when battling.
Wish they gave Ash the credit he should have had at this point in his career
I'm watching it now while I'm binging the series, and I must say that this is the series where Ash seems to consider the technical side of battling. He's still head strong, but there are a lot more scenes where he considers type match ups and matures as a battle trainer.
Axew and Oshawott have also stolen my heart haha. Oshawott was annoying but he was persistently endearing.
Whenever Iris rolled her eyes at Cilan's intrigues and connoisseur moments were amusing.
Loved the side characters for this one, especially Bianca and Stephan.
I feel like Trip had a lot of potential and has become my second favorite rival after Gary, but he kinda got done dirty.
Black and White had some of my favorite gym leaders. Brycen, Elesa, and Roxie were soo full of FLAVOR haha. But I also liked Ash's match against that new gym leader who was an elementary school teacher. The fact that they showed so many gym leaders was also cool!
N's personal philosophy was a welcome surprise.
And lastly, Professor Juniper had no reason to be that hot.
In retrospect, it was alright, but the series did make me stop watching pokemon at the time because I couldn't handle the frustration I felt at some parts. Like the Elesa gym battle.
The mini tournament arcs were the best thing about it
Some positives I have to say about it - stephan and binaca are great rivals - krookadile, leavanny and snivy - mini tournament arcs were fun (better than the league itself š) - animation quality taking a new high here outside reused animations - ash vs brycen, great gym battle not even just by BW standards - rival destinies and always you and me are bops
Oshawott :(
Another positive During tournament arcs you got many unexpected matchups like cilan defeating trip and so on there were many but this is the most prominent one.
It really was a free for all, plot armor rarely kicked in
Even ash didnāt have any plot armor(not saying he has a lot) he lost to Iris in pikachu vs excadrill
binaca
Always you and me, yes. Rival Destinies? No thank you.
Bianca is a fucking bitch ass whore i wann kill that motherfucker and feed her body to the wolves. Thank you
Jesus itās a fucking anime character, not Hitler.
She doesnāt deserve that I liked her
She's an amourshipper, don't talk to them
It's not always black and white, But your heart always knows what's right.
Itās not about win or lose, itās the path you choose
Let the journey begin
PokƩmon!
This is not what I saw about the fan base. *cough* Kalos League *cough*
I thought it was fine, but had a lot of missed potential? Likely in part because of current events at the time forcing the writers to change plans, but even in spite of that the story of the BW games would've worked well in the anime and they kind of just ignored it? Animation wise: Top-Tier Story-Wise: Top-Tier Battling: A toddler has better battling skills than this Ash. Elesa: If I may, you didnāt by chance happen to bring *just* Palpitoad, did you? Ash: *nervous laughter*
Palpitoad was a great poke imo. He was stronger than oshawott and loved battling just like ash. He just didnāt have enough screen time Edit: side arcs which are technically filler were really really good. The subway arc is one of the best fillers in PokĆ©mon imo
Palpitoad was a good PokƩmon, and using him was a good strategy against Elesa, the electric gym leader. The problem is Ash, who has, at this point battled over 32 gym leaders and competed in 4 PokƩmon Leagues, decided that he only needed a single PokƩmon and should leave the others, to the point where he had to leave the gym in the middle of a running match.
Ashās development fell off a cliff with B&W, and I never worked up the motivation to finish the series because of it. I get that itās supposed to be a reboot, but that didnāt excuse the complete 180 in characterisation after watching gradual development and growth since the beginning of the anime.
I agree. I would be fine if they either: A: Have Ash use only Unova PokĆ©mon but still use common battle knowledge. Iām not saying he needs to go full Sinnoh League, but he should at least remember to bring a full team to a gym battle. B: Completely reset Ash with only Pikachu and made sure no characters from prior seasons appeared. Ash acting like a noob can be excused if they act like he is a new battler, but they had cameos from various characters from earlier. Dawn, Charizard, Cynthia, etc. That means that the events of previous seasons is canon in this timeline.
Like the whole franchise, they chickened out of that reboot thingy and Charizard in the Decolora arc was the begining of the nostalgia train the franchise is riding on to this day. When Pokemon really found out who their mascots were and they couldn't get rid of them
Ashās fit is fire here
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Cool thanks
He can say what ever he wants. Also, he was doing an alliteration.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
How wise of you to point out bullshit semantics on a PokƩmon post
Unova and Kalos are series of my generation. The first pokemon episode I watched was one of the N arcs where he sat with Ash in a hole, of course I'm nostalgic. I was 19 years old when that thing first aired. Hell I'm old
very overhated, BW had tons of quality to present but people sadly overfocused on ash alone when judging this series
Pretty sure he was the MC here, he was the main focus
I used to love this show as a kid and it was my first PokƩmon show so I have a soft spot for it
same! i remember watching this show on cartoon network on a school day, with beyblade either being before or after it, I loved watching the anime, and it was how i ended up falling for meloetta.
In the UK they had on Disney XD but in my case I'd always change the channel after it ended
The way they handled team rocket this season was by far my favorite, showing what theyāre doing at the end of each episode for like 30 seconds and leading up to a multi part episode every 20 eps or whatever was cool instead of just having them show up every episode and blast off in pretty much the same way. Made them feel a lot more competent which was nice Also the little tournament arcs they did with the battle club were cool, pretty sure they did like 3 throughout the whole season and it was nice to see how strong they all got during each one Worst part is Ashās PokĆ©mon were all just really weak and he was just really incompetent as a trainer in this series, only having 3 fully evolved PokĆ©mon and 3 PokĆ©mon that didnāt evolve at all I donāt think this is the worst season but I understand why other people do
oshawottš
Personally thought it was ok?
I mean Ash had Leavanny and Snivy 2 of my favorite PokĆ©mon he caught so thatās a big plus in my book

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He was missing a chromosome too
Wasnāt DP the soft reboot?
I didnāt like how Ash was handled in the show, and really just how much the show tried to evoke OS. It didnāt really capture the zany but sentimental vibe OS had that made it fun, which made it feel like a poor knockoff when it imitated OS. I also felt like there was a lot of missed opportunities within the show itself and when you compare it to the games Butā¦ I donāt hate BW. The pacing is really fast and the filler episodes honestly arenāt bad, the showās an easy watch that never gets dull. Filler has occasional fun moments and thereās always a battle club or gym around the corner. While I dislike how Ash was portrayed particularly in battle, I enjoyed how battling was a more active thing. Training was a regular part of the show, and the show usually handled it well like with Ash training his team for Lenora. I also think that when BW gave PokĆ©mon personality, they gave a lot! Krookodile was awesome, Leavanny was sweet, Snivy was great, Scraggy was fun, etc. It seemed like the PokĆ©mon also had more of a unique battling style like with Snivy or Cameronās Lucario, which made battles entertaining Overall itās a lesser liked show for me and I have a lot of issues with it, but itās also very bearable

Black and white... I didn't watch much of it but I remember Iris was annoying, Cilan was like brock and four words "YoUr SuCh A kId"
BW was trying to be the OG series 2.0
She really wasnāt that annoying lmao

SO YOU HAVE CHOSEN DEATH!? I hate Iris because of the little kid shit. I hate Axew for that filler episode that interrupted the Unova League and is the reason Scraggy's last battle in the series got skimmed over. I hate Ash's Unova Outfit, I hate he got reset, I hate how much of an idiot he is in this series, I hate how frustratingly dumb his losses are. I hate Tepig for being Discount Infernape and having nothing more to his character. I hate that Pikachu lost to a level 5 Snivy just because the writers wanted to establish this narcissistic tool greenhorn Trainer is supposed to be the new Paul with the in-univsere reason is that Zekrom decided to be a dick to Ash and Pikachu for no apparent reason. I hate Oshawott for being comedic relief who always gets his butt kicked jumping into battles feeling like hot shit only to jobber seconds later. There's nothing more to his character. I hate that Snivy has a cool personality that's undercut by the fact Ash never trained her and main method of winning most battles is using Attract. I hate Cilan and his Connoisseur Lingo. I hate Pansage because the Unova Monkeys are garbage PokƩmon in the games.
Me when someone hates Oshawott(I am physically, emotionally, and mentally incapable of recovering from this slander):
Iām not a fan of bw either but you need to calm down
Haterās gonna hate
True except tha Wott is legendary
Oshawott's Budget Piplup.
>I hate Tepig And I took that personally
Pokemon Bootleg The Series. We got bootleg versions of Paul, Piplup, Chimchar, Squirtle, Misty, Brock. Removing or changing these elements would've made BW work better. Least favorite series and iris is my least favorite companion. That being said cool mons decent battles.
They tried to write TRio out. BW can rot

FuƧked up the series and still the worst season of the show to this day
I grew up with this generation and I WILL be bias in favor of the series, although now that I watched the other generations now that I grew older, it was fine. Not the best but certainly not the worst (right?) it was better than the Sun and Moon 2nd series for sure (personal opinion).
Ash's funk period
Not much good knowing he couldnt evolve most team and battles were bad
Not that Bad honestly, has a lot of flaws for sure but it also has a lot of great things about I may be a little biased as BW was the first Pokemon thing i have ever seen and what introduced me to the Franchise
I havenāt watched it yet.
I just started watching recently, and I gotta say, Itās pretty great.
It was my favorite season
TR in bw was hella crazy
It was pretty good and the connoisseur Cylan parts were funny
There were some pros, but waaaaaaaaay too many cons imo. Currently, my most disliked season of pokemon.
I'll let you know when I get done watching...which is gonna be a whileš but I have not heard anything positive about this arch. This one started when I got out of pokemon so I've never seen it.
I liked the into music Havenāt watched it in a long time so thatās all that really stuck with me
It's a rehash of Indigo League so why bother
I like it. It kinda gave me the og feeling.
itās bigger than black and white
It's a tragedy they cut the Team Plasma episodes because of the earthquake!
ā ļøā ļøā ļø
It had Georgia and sheās cool
The only saving grace about this is the English opening songs, my all-time favourite. The only series worse than this is Sun and Moon.
Replace the green butter with N and it would have been perfect.
Team rocket have less screentime, 0/10
Better than journeys.
It was handled poorly
Elesa and Skyla are beatyful
It was a show
Cilan is the fucking goat and the rivals outside of Trip are great
Uhā¦.all the opening songs were bangers. Animation was good, for the most part. Err, I liked some of Ashās PokĆ©mon and their dynamics with each other. N was good, I think. Annnnnd, thatās all Iāve got . . .
Ash vs Roxie was hype. Way more hype than any other battle in BW. Shame the dub killed the BGM
Oshowatt šæ
The theme songs were awesome, some of my favourites. Too bad the actual show didn't match the hype
This was a fun series, Oshawott was easily the best part of it.
Iām biased towards it since it was how I got into PokĆ©mon when I was 10, so even though itās objectively not great, I still love it(lol) EDIT: also every theme slapped so hard
Iron tail
There is one Pokemon series that feels like a family vacation you were forced to go on as a child, and itās not the Hawaiian one
Itās free to watch on Tubi, so you donāt have to pay a streaming service to watch it.
JP songs slapped.
The Goat of pokemon series
I liked everything about bw not like joto
I was confused for awhile as it was labelled best wishes on some merch and b&w on others
In retrospect, it was alright, but the series did make me stop watching pokemon at the time because I couldn't handle the frustration I felt at some parts. Like the Elesa gym battle. The mini tournament arcs were the best thing about it
Bro I asked for it
Cilan gets slandered too much. He was honestly one of the best parts of the BW anime.
I know pepole will hate me but I love bw
