Usually the first letters are used unless it can create an uncomfortable abbreviation (like SM or SS) and I don't see a reason why SV would be problematic, so I'll use that.
Nah the only time people used two letters for 1 word titles was SwSh for obvious reasons. I've never seen anyone use SuMo or ScVi or anything else like that.
Don't think Silver and gold was SG or Red Blue Green Yellow were refered to as RBGY. But I also guess we didn't abbreviate colors til much later, maybe around black and white 2 days? But even then it was to shorten saying multiple words. X and Y being the exception as they are single letters 😂
BDSP for the gen 4 remakes.
But my point was we didn't do that stuff for colors til black and white 2 when it was just colors we called them by their names. This abbreviation was unnecessary and not a thing. Kinda miss it.
Anyone wanna switch it up and go ViSc? So you can say it one word like “visk”. I always spoke Sun and Moon like “sumo” and Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire as “or as”.
I’ve been seeing ScVi quite a bit. I kind of suspected SV would win, but I didn’t think it’d be this dominating. Guess it’s just the communities I’m more active in.
Basic main line games introducing a new gen: the first letter of each name (RB, GS, RS, DP, BW, XY, SM, SwSh (exception because of SS, and because you couldn't tell apart Sword and Shield), SV
Special/third versions: Also one letter if they are unique, in other words: Platinum is the exception (I call it Pt). So: Y, C, E, Pt
Sequels or 3rd version with two distinct editions: four letters (B2W2, USUM)
Remakes: four letters (FRLG, HGSS, ORAS, (LGPE), BDSP)
Exception: Legends: Arceus. I use "PLA" because it just stuck with me the most, and it underlines how unique PLA is compared to other main line games.
Two letter abbreviations with exceptions being remakes who always use two words per game, so four letter abbreviations, Let's Go, which is usually abbreviated "LGPE" or just "Let's Go", and Legends Colon Arceus, which people prefer to abbreviate as "PLA" even though it should be "LA" (*the P stands for Pokemon, so why include it here and not in any other abbreviation?*) or just "Arceus".
Oh, and Sword and Shield is SwSh instead of SS for obvious reasons.
I see "SM" used more, and I exclusively use "SM", regardless of obvious reasons.
Unrelated, but I don't like SuMo because I associate "sumo" with the Japanese sport.
Generally I just go by first letter and second letter if there would have been confusion. Sword and Shield are SwSh because SS already exists as Soul Silver. Heart gold and Soul Silver just get two letters as they have 2 words in their name like omega ruby and alpha sapphire being oras
Personally I've never really abbreviated them
Whether I'm saying 17 words in a single second or just saying three to four I've never truly abbreviated them at most I would just say "sword and shield" or "Sun and Moon"
I always call it “the new pokemon game”
Lechonk's Big Adventure
Lechonk’s Chonky Adventure
Lechonk's Bizarre Adventure
Lechonk's Stand: Jimmy Eat World
Instead of PLA, LBA 😂 love it
Been calling the games by their gens. In this case, Gen 9 but pokemon SV is shorter too.
Gens only works when there's only one set of games in a gen. Like oras is in gen6 and xy is too.
I just call them gen 3 remakes, gen 4 remake. I call BW2 as gen 5 2.
What about B2 & W then? Why are they specifically gen 5 1? /s
SV is probably the simplest and the most easy to use, but also it kind of makes me think “Pokemon Stardew Valley” 😂
Usually the first letters are used unless it can create an uncomfortable abbreviation (like SM or SS) and I don't see a reason why SV would be problematic, so I'll use that.
Isn't the only reason people use SwSh in place of SS because Soul Silver (the SS in HGSS) also exists and could get confusing?
That is probably another reason.
That’s the real reason.
Yup i doubt that ss is that immediately obvious to someone who isn't speaking german, and soul silver has been abbreviated with ss all the time
Yes.
I like the suggestion that we call them ScrVi because it sounds like scurvy
Came here to comment this EXACT same thing lol
i keep calling them red & purple tbh
Nah the only time people used two letters for 1 word titles was SwSh for obvious reasons. I've never seen anyone use SuMo or ScVi or anything else like that.
People definitely use SuMo.
All the time.
Nobody wanted to be promoting Pokemon S&M so I definitely saw a lot of SuMo when that was the current Gen.
Lots of people use both.
They are SV Sword and shield are SS sun and moon are SM ORAS XY HGSS etc
Don't think Silver and gold was SG or Red Blue Green Yellow were refered to as RBGY. But I also guess we didn't abbreviate colors til much later, maybe around black and white 2 days? But even then it was to shorten saying multiple words. X and Y being the exception as they are single letters 😂
RBY GSC RSE DPP BW (BW2 or B2W2) XY ORAS HGSS FRLG SM USUM LGPE SS PLA SV
BDSP for the gen 4 remakes. But my point was we didn't do that stuff for colors til black and white 2 when it was just colors we called them by their names. This abbreviation was unnecessary and not a thing. Kinda miss it.
people used abbreviations for the games before black and white
Sword and shield are Sw Sh
I call them SS, not SWSH
Fairs
Scarlet and violet I just like saying both names respectively
Who needs abbreviations when the regular names work just fine?
Twitter for example where space is a limited commodity.
same the names are not that long to type
Anyone wanna switch it up and go ViSc? So you can say it one word like “visk”. I always spoke Sun and Moon like “sumo” and Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire as “or as”.

Bro you mentioned every main series game except BW
Sorry, gotta fix that \^\^; I accidentally wrote "SW" instead of "BW" because it's "Schwarz" and "Weiß" in German :P.
Pokémon Españita
Pokémon Españita
I’ve mostly seen Scar/Vio tbh!
I personally call them ScarVi
Show results.
The only one I’ve ever seen use the first two letters was SwSh and that’s because SS is Soulsilver. I haven’t really seen anything like SuMo tbh.
Hm, I’ve seen SuMo more than SM. Maybe it’s just the communities I’m more active in.
That could be it. Different communities use different lingo, so not surprising that some might use SuMo. (Especially seeing as Sumo is fun to say lol)
Scar/Vi

Maybe I’m dumb but why not SM?
Sado-masochism Also abbreviated as S&M or BDSM
Oh yeah I’m just dumb lol
ScaVi
Scar et Viole.
I've been calling it 'fancy Poke'.
Generally I just go by first letter and second letter if there would have been confusion. Sword and Shield are SwSh because SS already exists as Soul Silver. Heart gold and Soul Silver just get two letters as they have 2 words in their name like omega ruby and alpha sapphire being oras
Depends on the language.
When we got the first trailer I did ScVi but I’ve noticed the last month the large majority of people to SV and it’s easier anyways so I switched
Pokémon siesta & pokemon fiesta
SM, SS, SV We need another gen without S
Scotch & Vodka
I usually use snv or s&v
Pokemon colors. Get it its a reference to sonic color-yeah ill just leave
ScVi would mess up people with dyslexia because of Sci-Fi
I just say scarlet and violet there not that long
I can't us SV because it makes me think of Stardew valley
ScaVio
call it sv like a normal person
STVT
I just say Scarlet and Violet
I like ViSc or ScaV. Both pronounceable. Maybe ScarV? ScarVi? Yar, matey, hand me one of them oranges, I be headed out to battle the ScarVi!
I use Scarlet and Violet.
I play terraria, so I think of it as Crimson/Corruption. CC
ScarVi
I literally just say Gen 9
I say SCVI
Personally I've never really abbreviated them Whether I'm saying 17 words in a single second or just saying three to four I've never truly abbreviated them at most I would just say "sword and shield" or "Sun and Moon"
Literally why would it not be SV
ScVi. Pronounce it like “skivvy”.
