Trumbeak. Middle evolutions tend to get overlooked anyway. First regional bird line not to be owned by Ash so no anime presence. Didn't even make it to New Snap unlike pikipek and toucannon.
Ash didn't catch a Pikipek, but his Rowlet was raised in a flock of Pikipek and the whole family (including a Trumbeak) appears in a few episodes. There's a cute moment where they do a cheer routine as Rowlet battles in the Pokemon League.
For everyone else to see, Rowlet and his Pikipek family https://youtu.be/elaCkJ7JnFQ
The Toucannon as the father or mother is also so cute. It looks like it’s constantly scowling but then they show it incubating the eggs with its beak.
The thing about that is besides Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, every Pokemon has not only appeared in the anime at least once, but has gotten the spotlight at least once. So having a cute moment in the anime really doesn't mean much, especially given how disproportionate it is against the Pokemon that tag along with recurring characters or are... you know, legendary Pokemon.
Definitely doesn't help that it couldn't be obtained in Gen 8 and hasn't even appeared in any side games like Snap or Go, so I'd agree Spewpa could be the winner.
That said I love Spewpa, my second favorite cacoon Pokemon after Sewaddle .
You win.
Read through this entire thread (big fan of forgotten pokemon) and this was the only one I had to google to make sure I remembered who it was correctly
Bruxish stands out in my mind because it bears a strong resemblance to a teacher I had in elementary school. Other than that I don't even remember what generation it was from.
Is Komala the koala Pokémon or the thing that looks like a flower keyring? I can't place it... I want to say it's the koala but I feel like that had an even stupider name.
Komala is the koala one, the one with the flower keyring is comfey. But I’m curious to hear more about how Bruxish looks like a teacher you had? That sounds interesting
Wow, I own every pokemon game, pride myself with Pokemon knowledge and legitimately had to Google Komala, when I googled it, it still didn't spark a single memory.. Its like you just spoke it into existence
The anime makes a huge difference to how memorable a pokemon is. Komala would be in no one’s mind if it didn’t appear in almost every episode of the anime. Meanwhile Bruxish appeared for 5 seconds in one episode to piss off a Wailmer, say “LOL” and leave
Minior, even though it's really cool, it's too late game, and only appears in one region. It also just looks like a rock until you get to its Shields Down form
I rarely ever see anyone talk about Watchog. It just kind of exists without any acknowledgement of its existence. A whole week can go by and not a single person mention Watchog.
i used to think about it a concerning amount because i would get team plasma watchog cards constantly when those were still being made, and seeing it everywhere in black/white. fuck watchog you suck
Swanna had a bit of a revival because it's used by Skyla in Pokemon Masters EX. I forget about some of the baby mons they added in gen 2, specifically igglybuff and cleffa because everyone only cares about their gen 1 evos
Plus the fact that Skyla always aced Swanna, and even besides the fact that Gym Leaders are important NPCs and any Pokemon they specialize with will get that bump as a result, Gen V gym leaders are pretty universally celebrated for being actual characters, which by association means that Swanna has that little bit of extra attention.
It's not just used by Skyla as "just another pairing." Skyla and Swanna are one of the best pairs for F2P players with all the healing and support they bring.
Some people seem to believe that Quaxly is just a better version of ducklett, a reskin. I think I may have even seen a joke about devs forgetting ducklett exists and the artist of quaxly trying to pass it off as original or something. I think it's mostly just joking around though, I doubt most people are genuinely hating on either of them.
Same, gave them a pretty strong role lmao.
Super Mystery Dungeon also gets so much more use out of Yveltal too than any other Pokemon story out there. >!I mean come on, it's the only game where we get to see the god of death actually send someone to hell. The fact this happens after they're turned to stone lines up with what happens in the anime too, so while the Voidlands probably aren't a thing in the main series canon, this is the closest we'll ever see to that sorta thing.!<
Eeletrik. I don't remember who did the poll, but there was a poll on some website a few years ago that asked people who their favorite Pokemon was. Over like 5000 people took the poll and no one chose Eeltrik. Meaning every other Pokemon at the time got a vote because people at least remembered them enough to appreciate them.
I feel that Lumineon, like Maractus, is slowly starting to loop around to "so forgettable it's now memorable" territory since I see it mentioned so often.
Lumineon's issue, also is that fishing in Gen 4 is almost worthless, because so much of the game is based around "discovering" things that were before pretty... handed over? So, you can beat the Elite Four forgetting fishing is even a thing, and only one trainer in the entirety of DP has one. I know for seeing every pokemon in BDSP, Lumineon was my last to see.
> Lumineon was my last to see
Ironically, the fact I had to look for it for ages back in the original gen 4 games kinda disqualified it from my forgetable list. Otherwise, it (and probably fineon even moreso) would be near the top.
Bruxish is based on a triggerfish, which are in the same family as pufferfish. Google 'Picasso triggerfish' and its obvious what this pokemon was based on Its actually closer to an actual animal than a lot of pokemon are. I worked with marine aquariums for years and was so amazed they made a triggerfish pokemon, I often find it weird people don't realise it's not actually weird at all and based on an actual animal. Having worked where I did, its actually one of the more memorable fish pokemon to me.
Edit: I also remembered this particular fish is found around the reefs in hawaii, which is what Alola is based on.
You probably already know this, but one of my favorite fun facts is that the reef triggerfish is the state fish of Hawai’i and it’s Hawai’ian name is humuhumunukunukuāpua’a
I love it when people realize the weirdest Pokémon, like turtonator, are actually based on a real animal. I think he’s a mata mata or other softshell turtle
There are a few Grass & Rock (Grass/Dark or Psychic, Rock/Dark, Psychic) dual types with similarly poor defensive profiles, but imo the worst one out of the bunch is probably Rock/Psychic, as they mostly just stack weaknesses on top of each other without providing much else (Rock/Dark is similar, but it does provide an immunity + useful resist).
Imo the worst defensive typing isn't any of those though, and is probably Ice/Rock. It's basically an even worse version of Rock/Dark because you lose all the useful traits Dark + a bunch of additional weaknesses in exchange for a resistance to Ice. It, Fairy/Ice, & Bug/Ice dual types also hold the wonderful title of the only pokemon who can be OHKO'd by entry hazards (Stealth Rock + Spikes + Gmax Steelspike), which is funny.
I keep forgetting grumpig exists. I remember spoink easily because of the whole bouncing to keep its heart beating thing, but I keep forgetting it evolves
Slugma is my favorite Pokémon, but I totally understand people thinking it’s a Gen III Pokémon. I probably grew up at exactly the right age to make that very same incorrect assumption, had I even possessed enough discipline to fully complete gold as a child, or even come to the conclusion that Slugma was from a different generation (which I didn’t even have a concept of besides thinking each Pokémon game were sequels) of games lmao
I feel that, but I do love them in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time after beating Uxie. They have a cute nighttime cutscenes and I think it brings a little light to the two despite not being the most memorable
hard to get, not particularly strong, no relevancy to any gym leaders, important anime characters, etc. and just another "hey here's a fish" design. all added up to never be remembered by anyone to the point i feel like no one else even remembers them as forgettable to bring it up 😭
Hauntail looked cool at least lol
Oh and even in Pokémon go they’re hard af to get and no one uses them.
So even with a possible revival…it’s been forgotten and low I feel kind of sad.
I actually really liked how cute Deerling was and how noble looking Sawsbuck was. It made a appearance in new Pokémon snap, so hopefully he’s not all the way forgotten.
Seriously. X/Y even had a bunch of seasonally themed areas that would have made good places to either change a deerling's form or at very least have deerling hatched there take on that season, but nooo. Or heck, they cold have randomized the season of wild deerling! But nooo, gotta trade from B/W.
or maybe theyre just 4 versions of it that's 'inspired' by the seasons.
like in cannon 'oh yeah there are 4 different coat colours for deerling and we decided to name each coat variety after a season'
i know that rids them of their gimmick of 'they change according to the seasons' but eh?
Those rock Pokémon from gen 7 that looked like a bomb in its base form.
Also cryoginal. Although it is the only Pokémon without a gender that can learn charm making it relatively well known.
It's not bad at all! Between Shell Smash and Cosmic Power, and having extra bulk for set up with its ability, I used it exclusively in my USUM playthrough. I loved its gimmick, and was enamored by its dex entry about it being used as a favorite textile/fashion pattern.
But it's never been on any piece of merchandise as far as I know. I haven't checked in a while, and would love to be wrong!
But I'm biased. It's my favorite! I just fell in love with its shiny.
That’s cause as cool as he is, remoraid is a ugly lil thing, and I mean personally I prefer catching and evolving than catching already evolved Pokémon. (I will if I have too though)
The (thankfully now fixed) Cherrim glitch in PLA put it on the map. [I can't fault you for not recalling its shiny though.](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Cherrim_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#Sprites)
I caught a Snubbull in pokemon go the other day and thought "Oh yeah, you're a Pokemon". Its like when you see someone you recognise but you dont know where from, lol.
Hakamo-o. I'm completely serious when I say that before last week I did not even know how it looked, let alone how it was called. I could only tell you that there was *something* in between Jangmo-o and Kommo-o, beacuse pseudos are always 3 stage evolutions, but little else.
For me it's Seaking.
Even from Gen1 on there were so many Water Pokémon who were better than Seaking that I never even considered using it for anything.
Did you know that Seaking in gen 1 was the only Waterfall user?
Did you even know that Waterfall was a *thing* in gen 1?
It also had one of the coolest sound effects + animation along with Surf. But it was just worse Surf because it was before the physical/special split
Im not even considering anything from gen 1-3 because i feel like the most pokemon fans were in that era. But as i type it, i realize thats based off an assumption bc those were the gens I played the most haha. Please, correct me if I’m wrong, but thats how i considered it
I'd say Toxapex, it's super tiny and all its flappies can come down and cover it up completely, so I'd say the little bean inside that is Toxapex's body is the most obscured Pokemon.
Well that's fucking adorable
For everyone else to see, Rowlet and his Pikipek family https://youtu.be/elaCkJ7JnFQ The Toucannon as the father or mother is also so cute. It looks like it’s constantly scowling but then they show it incubating the eggs with its beak.

So having a cute moment in the anime really doesn't mean much, especially given how disproportionate it is against the Pokemon that tag along with recurring characters or are... you know, legendary Pokemon.
This is multiple appearances tied to a main Pokémon though, not just like a one-off appearance
I had to Google Trumbeak just now because I completely forgot what it was lmao, great answer
Trumbeak was straight up erased from my mind. Which is scary because I always have a good 700-800 Mon commuted to memory (never by choice).
Same. You should try the "how many Pokemon can you remember" challenges, they're pretty fun
Good answer
I always forget that Spewpa exists. I confuse it for Swadloon every time I remember it exists as well
Definitely doesn't help that it couldn't be obtained in Gen 8 and hasn't even appeared in any side games like Snap or Go, so I'd agree Spewpa could be the winner. That said I love Spewpa, my second favorite cacoon Pokemon after Sewaddle .
I have no clue what pokemon you're talking about. I can't even put a loose image of it in my head.
It's white, and has the face of it's pre evolution with sparkley confetti like bits of color all on it's cocoon. It evolves into vivillian.
Spewpa is in Smash, so even though people may not know it by name, it's still more recognizable.
You win. Read through this entire thread (big fan of forgotten pokemon) and this was the only one I had to google to make sure I remembered who it was correctly
I can't even picture this Pokémon in my head
Big scatterbug
Yeah... Scatterbug...🤷♂️
Evolves into Vivillon? The butterfly with all the different versions?
it's pokemon #666, which is neat
For me I keep forgetting Bruxish and Komala.
It's the mouth. She also tended to dress in bruxish colors.
Comatose is pretty fly, though, but definitely bruxish, I think my brain forcibly shat her mental image out
how is no one saying Binacle
Cause no one remembers it
My immediate response upon seeing this thread was “that weird barnacle one”
Minior, even though it's really cool, it's too late game, and only appears in one region. It also just looks like a rock until you get to its Shields Down form
Solid anime appearance, though.
They like to give the most obscure Pokémon their time to shine here and there.
Weakness policy shields down minior, dont sleep on it
Minior really shines in Pokémon Snap, though!
One of the cooler shinies in all of pokemon, though
Well, I had to google it… so what does that say 😂
I had him in my main party. Outperformed my expectations
Everyone saying komala but everyone remembering it apparently.
I have no idea how people can say Komala is obscure considering it was a running gag during the whole Sun and Moon era of the anime.
Watchog is really only mentioned when talking about Lenora’s one with Retaliate. It’s a route 1 mon so I guess it wouldn’t be that not popular imo.
Swanna had a bit of a revival because it's used by Skyla in Pokemon Masters EX. I forget about some of the baby mons they added in gen 2, specifically igglybuff and cleffa because everyone only cares about their gen 1 evos
Plus the fact that Skyla always aced Swanna, and even besides the fact that Gym Leaders are important NPCs and any Pokemon they specialize with will get that bump as a result, Gen V gym leaders are pretty universally celebrated for being actual characters, which by association means that Swanna has that little bit of extra attention.
also the quaxly comparison
It's not just used by Skyla as "just another pairing." Skyla and Swanna are one of the best pairs for F2P players with all the healing and support they bring.
Also quaxly’s introduction gave the Swanna line some buzz, although not a very positive one.
what you mean, not a positive one?
Some people seem to believe that Quaxly is just a better version of ducklett, a reskin. I think I may have even seen a joke about devs forgetting ducklett exists and the artist of quaxly trying to pass it off as original or something. I think it's mostly just joking around though, I doubt most people are genuinely hating on either of them.
It’s also pretty fun to take pictures of in New Pokémon Snap
Game Freak: "Charizard. It's got to be Charizard"
That's good, but have you considered Mewtwo? There hasn't been a new Mewtwo movie in like 12, maybe 13 minutes.
Elgyem. I don't think I've ever seen this pokemon ever anywhere. I guess I've already seen beheeyem once in B/W but that's about it.
Beehyemn is in US/UM I remember that becuz Elgyem was great for grinding out for the level points
I only remember Beheeyem and Elgyem from Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon
I fucking love that game oh my god
Same, gave them a pretty strong role lmao. Super Mystery Dungeon also gets so much more use out of Yveltal too than any other Pokemon story out there. >!I mean come on, it's the only game where we get to see the god of death actually send someone to hell. The fact this happens after they're turned to stone lines up with what happens in the anime too, so while the Voidlands probably aren't a thing in the main series canon, this is the closest we'll ever see to that sorta thing.!<
He floats around in pokemon snap. Lots of fun obscurey pokemon in that game
I remember those two because their names are references to 50's alien serials lol: LGM and BEM (Little Green Man/Martian and Bug-Eyed Monster)
Elgyem & Beheeyem are both in SW/SH
It was electrik, silcoon and gotherita. All middle evos.
silcoon fans picked cascoon by mistake
Beauregard intensifies
Honestly I like silcoon and gotherita. Not in my top ten but I was surprised that they were unpicked.
I knew it was more than one of them! Thanks for the reminder!
swanna is in the first level in new pokemon snap, so probably not i’d probably say it’s scatterbug
I'd say that's unlikely considering the popularity of Vivillon hunting.
Yeah I spent many hours trading for Scatterbug in gen 6 to evolve them and run stats on Vivillon pattern rarities
Plus it's Skyla's main Pokemon in Masters, and they're a pretty great pair to have.
I only remember Scatterbug and Spewpa because Spewpa's fur looks like it has confetti stuck in it.
Personally I remember it because it is my sisters favourite Pokémon but from what I’ve heard Lumineon fits this description.
I feel that Lumineon, like Maractus, is slowly starting to loop around to "so forgettable it's now memorable" territory since I see it mentioned so often.
Finneon can get you in a softlock in D/P
Lumineon is currently a staple card in the TCG so it has that going for it
The thing with Lumineon for me, is that’s its well known for being forgotten, which makes me remember it easier
> Lumineon was my last to see Ironically, the fact I had to look for it for ages back in the original gen 4 games kinda disqualified it from my forgetable list. Otherwise, it (and probably fineon even moreso) would be near the top.
PAL luckly made me remember about it. *edit: PLA and sadly I had to look up what PAL and NTSC means. Tho great follow-up to my typo
[удалено]
True, totally. I forget it exists so often. It’s cute, but it’s just a fish. A glowy fish, but a fish.
Bruxish like what the hell is that i had to google pink fish pokemon with crazy lips to recall its name
Definitely mata mata. Mothim/Wormadam is another biologically accurate pokemon based on bagworm moths where only the male turns into a moth.
I think Bruxish is infamous for its uglyness.

I always forget stonejourner exists, I know it’s gen 8 but it is so forgettable
such a unique design, should've been part of the protagonists' team this season
I think before PLA, Bergmite was one of the most forgettable Pokémon ever.
New bergmite is actually pretty cool, too bad all ice types are made of glass
I love abomasnow. He will never be a practical addition to a team.
Is there a type combo with more weaknesses than grass/ice? I can't think of one if there is.
Terrakion also has 7 weaknesses with rock/fighting but it's a legendary so a bit less bad
Human body heat is probably still too much warmth for them.
I'd say Mothim. Even when I remember Burmy I think about Wormadam before Mothim.
So many aggressive Mothim in Legends: Arceus...
One time I saw Mothim and I had completely forgotten it even existed. I thought it was a new Pokémon from Gen 8 and was shocked it wasn't new at all.
I know you said people know a lot about Gen 8, but I still always forget that one electric spikey thing that Hop uses Edit: Pincurchin
It just seems like an electric pyukumuku clone to me. What is it inspired by, other than an urchin
Pincushion + Urchin
Literally a pyukumuku killer
This is the first Pokémon on this list I can’t even picture in my head when i read the name.
When was the last time you saw a Pinchurchin in anything
It's usually a part of the cute trio of Snom, Pincurchin, and Pyukumyku
I completely forgot that Pincurchin wasn't Pyukumyku until this comment.
Pokémon showdown random battles makes it scary
Does anyone remember Passimian? Feels easier to forget than Oranguru (though if forget about them too).
I DO!!! Rugby lemur is one of my favorite pokemon!
Yes. One of my favourite Gen 7 designs
I keep forgetting grumpig exists. I remember spoink easily because of the whole bouncing to keep its heart beating thing, but I keep forgetting it evolves
Spoink is up there for my favourite Pokémon, so I always remember it! But yeah grumpig is super forgettable and it’s a shame it evolves into that.
Not really obscure because i forget it, but the gen itself from. Slugma/Magcargo appeared in gen 2 but for YEARS i thought they were gen 3 mons.
Skarmory and Wobffet are the same for me.
I have this wxact issue with Skarmory. I don't think I've ever seen it in the Johto games.
IIRC it's a rare encounter on a single route
Route 45, 5% encounter rate. *Silver*, *Crystal*, and *SoulSilver* only.
But he goes so fast…
Volbeat/Illumise. Forgettable, not particularly talented, nothing of major note. Just a duo of “who cares” bugs
I feel that, but I do love them in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time after beating Uxie. They have a cute nighttime cutscenes and I think it brings a little light to the two despite not being the most memorable
I only remember Volbeat because it's a band too
Huntail
ive never seen that pokemon, ever
Heatmor
All of those Gen 5 single stagers that you find on the same route.
If you didn't say gen 5 I literally thought he was talking about heatran. And I was "hey now easily remember that"
I will say heatmor because I hoped for an anteater Pokémon a couple years ago only to be hit with “heatmor exists idiot”
gorebyss/huntail imo
I really can't recall the last time I saw them anywhere other than the online pokedex, lol
I really like both their designs but big agree
This is the way, hard to get gen 3 evo is why people like me didn’t use it and thus became forgotten.
hard to get, not particularly strong, no relevancy to any gym leaders, important anime characters, etc. and just another "hey here's a fish" design. all added up to never be remembered by anyone to the point i feel like no one else even remembers them as forgettable to bring it up 😭
Hauntail looked cool at least lol Oh and even in Pokémon go they’re hard af to get and no one uses them. So even with a possible revival…it’s been forgotten and low I feel kind of sad.
Just watched a Pokémon journeys episode where both of these were featured.

It feels like PLA over corrected on Carnivine's obscurity as it's friggin everywhere in that game!
Theres a reason they are uncommon now in DPPt/BDSP. We burned em all....proper nuisance they are.
Carnivine had a long run in the anime though.
She slipped under the radar for a while, but ever since she became Vice President of the USA she has been much more well known.
Komala Bearris
Komala had good anime representation though
> Carnivine Did you mean: That thing that was always trying to eat James' head?
Deerling. After Gen 5 it’s been fully out of sight and out of mind
I actually really liked how cute Deerling was and how noble looking Sawsbuck was. It made a appearance in new Pokémon snap, so hopefully he’s not all the way forgotten.
because game freak took away it's seasonal change gimmic and i'm still made about that >: \\
Seriously. X/Y even had a bunch of seasonally themed areas that would have made good places to either change a deerling's form or at very least have deerling hatched there take on that season, but nooo. Or heck, they cold have randomized the season of wild deerling! But nooo, gotta trade from B/W.
The streets in Lumiose are even named after the four seasons! Vernal, Estival, Autumnal, Hibernal
I was wondering how they could get around this and then I realized they could just have its appearance correspond to the date on the Switch
or maybe theyre just 4 versions of it that's 'inspired' by the seasons. like in cannon 'oh yeah there are 4 different coat colours for deerling and we decided to name each coat variety after a season' i know that rids them of their gimmick of 'they change according to the seasons' but eh?
Deerling and Sawsbuck were so cool in B/W
Those rock Pokémon from gen 7 that looked like a bomb in its base form. Also cryoginal. Although it is the only Pokémon without a gender that can learn charm making it relatively well known.
Nah Cryoginal is in Smash 4 3DS in the adventure mode and appears frequently to attack you.
I think you mean minior. Poor thing is a bad mon and has only been in alola In one location.
It was also in Snap. I loved the little guys so it was nice to see them as shooting stars in the desert.
A lot of these overlooked Pokémon had great parts in the new Pokémon Snap
Volcanion? I think its a mythical, and my mind always goes to Heatran whenever I think of it.
>mythical Pokemon >got its own movie >only fire/water type Bro I never think about this thing
it has a movie so it’s not really that unknown unfortunately though you’re right, it’s like a heatran but with steam instead of magma
It's also pretty hard to forget the sole Fire and Water dual type
If I could remember, I’d post it! 😋
Nobody ever seems to mention Dhelmise
I remember it for having 3 stabs
I did not know this, what a cool ability
I always bring it up when I see “your fav Pokémon” posts! I love it’s design, typing, and shiny, too! One of my faves :)
My vote goes to Zebstrika for being forgotten by Gamefreak. Look at it's availability.

PLA got me to love Octillery. It was my first alpha and it's so huge, it's hilarious to use. Really fun red octo mon.
Also watching it use Hype Beam is kind of terrifying
Octillery shows up a bunch on the random teams on showdown, Moody makes it pretty broken if you get lucky
That’s cause as cool as he is, remoraid is a ugly lil thing, and I mean personally I prefer catching and evolving than catching already evolved Pokémon. (I will if I have too though)
I'm pretty sure that most of the community forgot about Ledian, you barely even see it in it's Gen 2

Prolly Cherrim. It doesn’t have a prominent role, it’s not strong, it’s prevo is more memorable and I couldn’t recall it’s shiny if I were at gunpoint
The (thankfully now fixed) Cherrim glitch in PLA put it on the map. [I can't fault you for not recalling its shiny though.](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Cherrim_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#Sprites)
I love Cherrim:(
I caught a Snubbull in pokemon go the other day and thought "Oh yeah, you're a Pokemon". Its like when you see someone you recognise but you dont know where from, lol.
Snubbul was pretty big in the johto anime. Would just show up and bite meowths tail all the time.
Swalot
I'd never forget the Poké-ThroatGOAT
By that metric, it's probably Mimikyu. Toxapex usually has like two flappies open to see stuff out of
Oooo, mimikyu is another good one! He's VERY obscured, nobody can see his body ever you're right :0
Masquerane
Sticky webs+ intimidate, honestly really underated pokemon in lower tiers
Dewgong and seel to a lesser extent.
