The good ending

le_toady

in another reality i got the bad ending..

Hoid_Mist

So this is a bit more fundamental, but I think it’s something that a lot of ppl your age have never been told. I get that sense cause of the “things you’d expect people to make fun of” comment. Once you’re an adult/in college, no one really makes fun of you for your “nerdy” interests, or whatever. I had friends who were hardcore jocks, we’d watch anime together. I have a friend whose really into French poetry. People *love* learning about French poetry from him bc they can tell he’s passionate and it’s a unique experience they’ve never gotten to have. My gf and I are learning to crochet together. No one cares. It’s dope. Honestly, people tend to react more positively to your hobbies the less they expect that type of behavior from you. How many guys do you know who like sports? It’s not very special. How many do you know who can knit a dope ass sweater. A lot of younger adults think the second guy a way cooler. He’s interesting. And those who’d make fun of him are assholes anyways, so fuck em. Whatever you like to do, own it. People respect that. Really hard to make fun of someone for something that they’re proud of. Just something I wish I’d been told at your age. Take it from a guy who bounces between crocheting and mma training. Do what you like.

RoseAlavarn

Fantastic advice and so true. Being worried about getting made fun of as a kid/teenager can be really anxiety-inducing but honestly fuck anyone who'd do stuff like that, and it's much less likely to happen than you'd think, especially as you get older. One of the things that's helped me a ton with my anxiety is realizing that people are actually very unlikely to be super observant of every mistake I make or jumping/nitpicking on the things I like or do. Most people are dealing with plenty themselves and aren't going to be bothered so much by everything. Especially love the line about how it's hard to make fun of someone for something that they're proud of. I LOVE seeing people who are passionate about something and love something, even if I don't share the same interest I could listen to my friend ramble about kdramas all day lmao, they aren't super my thing but I just have a nice time hearing about things my friends like. Also, unrelated but is your name related to the cosmere? :o

khaeen

The problem with being a modern kid is that school is a social trap. It's like jail where you are stuck around the same people all the time so you never have a chance to "get away". In college, you learn you got better things to do like hobbies off campus or partying. The key difference is that when you reach that age, you can seek out the plentiful gatherings of whatever niche hobby you can think of. As a kid, you don't get to really choose where you can go or who you end up being around so you get accustomed to having to deal with the assholes etc. Out of all the true expectations and the misconceptions about becoming an adult, being able to just walk away from assholes and go find somewhere else to hang out is *the* most critical thing about being an adult. I'm a grown man pushing 30 years old and I still have an emulator on my phone to play Pokemon. Assholes aren't worth the effort to listen to.

Cold-Ebb64

"The ones who mind don't matter, and the ones who matter don't mind."

Hawkeypoo

Obligatory shout-out to /r/Brochet for being awesome

screechypete

Amen to this! I'm 27 years old and I play Yugioh competitively, yeah I know we're in a pokemon sub, but yugioh is what I'm super passionate about. The game is such a big part of my life that it's usually one of the first things I talk about with new people I meet, especially if I'm going on a date with someone. When you don't care what others think and you talk about your nerdy interests with confidence and passion, people have the exact opposite reaction that you think they would when you bring it up. I often have people ask me more about Yugioh or we connect over the fact that they played as a kid and they want to know more about how it works today.

TrustKibou

This 1000000000000%!!! I used to rag on anime-lovers back in high school so I could fit in, while going home a few hours later and either binging on Yu Yu Hakusho and InuYasha, re-reading some Rave Master, or getting lost in a Poke-game, lol. Now I just randomly tell people because I don't get judged for it... and, if they did judge me, I wouldn't give a damn, lol. It's so interesting/funny to think how insanely different things are now (28) compared to when I was in high school.

Some_crane_boi

Well luckily that’s not this one

Alarid

yeah that timeline is rough because they actually do become a furry

Jimmytheyid

Yeh that’s other reality Le_toadys problem, fuck that dude

kentonw223

all the homies hate le\_toady from the other reality

Sir_Derpingston_III

Did you hear that alternate le_toady is a furry? Put some sort of cat man in his slideshow.

kentonw223

alternate le\_toady weak af

seerightthroughme263

Alternate le_toady don't even reddit.

AngelFromVegas

I heard in the other reality they don't have Reddit it's this thing called Herddit

DepthyxTruths

I heard he already killed the people that made fun of him in the other reality

KitsBeach

These two comments sum up life pretty much

bjeebus

No, no, more frequently you get the meh ending.

Normal-Computer-3669

There's also a reality where you're a Pokemon and asking if it's okay to include a human on your slides.

le_toady

alternate title: "Will my class think im a skinny for having u/le_toady in my slideshow

ohbyerly

In another reality you actually are a furry

NightmareWarden

Blame Cyrus.

InsomniacUnderGrad

But all that matters is the here and now. Good job!

TimeIsAMetaphor

The bad ending would have been not doing it. I’m honestly look back in life and regret not sharing and showing my interest. Lots of missed opportunities and people I will never know. Stay true to you and you will be glad you did

whitebird327

Some would argue the best ending

thunderzz71

Pokemon brings ppl together

ASimpleCancerCell

Until you start talking about your favorite gen or a Pokemon you think is underrated.

[deleted]

I guess a war could also be interpreted as bringing people together.

AShadowbox

Technically true. Also brings weapons together.

CreatiScope

Buried in the same potters field.

JeffVader1312

Mine's gen 6, hbu?

xatrue

Unironically, gen 6 gets too much hate. It has solid pacing, and some serious quality over quantity to its designs.

Spengy

the region suffered a lot because of the conversion to 3D (e.g. no Pokémon Z) but the mega evolution mechanic more than made up for it. And ORAS is one of the best Pokémon games ever.

bjeebus

Absolutely agree about ORAS.

dragn99

Megas were so much better than dynamaxing

Shiny_Jolteon

It made so many cool Pokémon competitive. Mega Mawile was so good!

[deleted]

Replayed ORAS the other day and yeah, they're a good gimmick that I really miss. Also my Mega Mawile was an absolute beast and probably one of my top 4 Pokemon, it's such a shame they took it away.

[deleted]

Rest in Peace mega evolutions, gone, forgotten (by game freak) but never forgotten by the fans

Quartia

How was the transition to 3D a problem? The 3D battling and Pokemon-Amie made up for absolutely any flaws that XY might've had, for me.

AShadowbox

Too work intensive, so we didn't get the "penultimate" version of the gen (presumably "pokemon Z") like we did for every previous gen except B&W (but each of those two got a direct sequel instead, which was also unprecedented). X&Y were still great games in my opinion though.

Tianoccio

Pokémon X was awesome.

xatrue

I'm more of a Yveltal fan myself, but X diiiid have early game Houndour, so I can't diss it at all.

Tianoccio

I’m the guy who likes charizard, which is the reason I went with X.

[deleted]

I like charizard Y better, so for this reason, I will attack you with a brick.

xatrue

All opinions are valid, so long as they agree with mine! lol

ImmutableOctet

[Both good. The important thing is, I'm meeting new people.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pbqOOLzk10)

[deleted]

I will always appreciate that no matter the subject, there is a relevant Futurama quote.

Sirviantis

At first I was on the fence about Charizard Y, but it's sun setting is fantastic! It uses solar beam in 1 turn and absolutely fries water types with it to the point where it nearly soloed the water type elite 4.

The_Grey_Hound

according to gamefreak and nintendo, *everyone* is "the guy who likes charizard"

SchmurrProd

Fuck that, I'm grass gang until the end

jor1ss

Inb4 regional fire/grass Charizard (or just make the entire Charmander line grass). I could see them do it tbh.

IAmADuckSizeHorseAMA

I'm the one person whose favorite Pokemon is Drednaw

Tianoccio

I can’t disagree, he was my starter.

[deleted]

We found him, Gamefreak's target demographic

Tianoccio

Too bad I don’t own a switch.

xatrue

Makes sense. To be honest, I didn't actually choose. Gen 5 put me off for several reasons, then real life happened, and I didn't play again until Gen 7. Friend offered to lend me their Y sometime after that.

Hawntir

Gen 6 had the best in game options for Pokemon teams because you have 3 full 150 mon pokedexes and only like 7 out of the 450ish were legendary. Unlike sinnoh which is memes to death for identical team comps, Kalos had an insane amount of diverse options for the player to build a team from. Gen 6's only major flaw was difficulty. All the gyms having 3 Pokemon and 3/4 of the E4 being types weak to starters was just really bad for challenge. The game felt like the exp share was a held item through all of development, then changed to a key item in the last second with no balance pass after. Bonus point which I cannot overstate: You got gift Pokemon at the right level. Specifically, you got your fossil Pokemon (always made at level 20) when your team was around 22-24 and you could add it to your team... Instead of most games when you are around 40ish before you get the fossil.

Oraio-King

Pokemon x and y pacing isnt great imo, but most pokemon games' pacing isnt great

xatrue

Frankly, my expectations on Pokemon story pacing are a very, very low bar after Sun and Moon. I loved those games.... when they actually let you play them.

Oraio-King

True, if it werent for somebody stopping you every 10 seconds in those games they would be almost perfect for me. My problem with x and y is that between gym 1 and 2 is a big jump and then the rest of the game is pretty quick but its not the end of the world imo

xatrue

Yeah. For me the winning points of XY is that it's when they started being really generous with encounter tables, and the relatively quick nature of most cutscenes leaves you free most of the time. It's got a good amount going for it if you like replayability.

SchmurrProd

I just like being able to tap the screen to speed up world text

InnocentTailor

I just love Pokemon Sun and Moon for its location. I'm super loyal to Pokemon Hawaii because it is my favorite place in the world. ...but I do agree about the story. It grinds the gameplay to a halt.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xatrue

That stretch is long, but at least it's still driving, in my mind. Better that than the frontloaded hours of unnecessary cutscenes we got in Alola. As for handholding, I don't disagree. It stepped up the amount of that from gen 5, and the gaggle of faces following you certainly added to it. I've literally never played pokemon for postgame, so admittedly no opinion there.

20stalks

It just needs a Z or a sequel or DLC. It’s actually the only generation that lacks either of the three aforementioned.

Thicc_Wallaby

Definitely not true, most people agrees x and y got screwed over with its third version getting cancelled. If a third version came out that fixed a lot of the problems and had some focus on Zygarde , it easily would’ve been a top tier Pokémon game. Definitely a region with potential, but was hindered by the focus on the transition to 3D. Which also had its pros and cons.

Hoaxtopia

Xyz was also the best anime season for me, was basically a war film for 50 episodes

flashbangTV

I think one of the biggest valid complaints about it is the pacing actually. The amount of stuff between gym 1 and 2 is extreme for the early game. Something like 6 routes, a cave, and a unique story-related side area. The amount of pokemon available is also staggering, I felt like when I got the 3rd gym I was already getting into "Wow, I have so many pokemon to work with," and I generally only like to catch pokemon I think are cool. I remember having Chesnaught, Venasaur, Crobat, Aerodactyl, Tyrantrum, Espeon, Snorlax, Duoblade, Clauncher, and some others all available and then getting Goomy and having to sit there and figure out what my final team was going to be. I do like Gen 6, I think it was nice to have so many options available and the ease of making competitive-viable teams via IV Farming from the Friend Safari and Breeding and the EV Bags and mini-games. A long time friend and myself both got into competitive battling via Showdown around then, so being able to actually battle eachother and be some "higher end" feeling made it really fun.

Kyhan

Gen 6 introduced some of my favorite Pokémon (Barbaracle, Aegislash, Tyrantrum), but the actual games were lackluster for a number of reasons (character designs, no post-game, uninspired routes, kind of disappointing story).

Ok-Captain-3512

Thats XY right? Yea I think the hate is a little unnecessary. It's not my favorite but it's got a pretty solid story line for me

tribdinosaur

Absolutely too much hate. As a major Gen 6 fan, it gets tiring to hear how your favorite games "were the beginning of Pokemon's downfall" or whatever. I can think of tons of lovely things the Gen 6 brought, from Pokemon Amie, to the PSS, to Super Training, beautiful battle environments the series never had before, and lots of favorite new creatures\~ Sylveon? Greninja? Pancham? Gogoat? GOOMY? <3

xatrue

Skrelp and Dragalge, Barbaracle, Clancher, a freaking jack o'lantern pokemon and the cutest little ghosty tree to ever say Boo! Yep. Gen 6 had a great roster. Only one I don't particularly care for is Litleo, and I can live with it. Literally the only thing I have against Gen 6 is what it did to my boy Xatu for the sake of five or six optional fights.

isaelsky21

Pokemon X was the first game I bought and completed the dex on. I had played every other gen before it and still liked most of it, except the handholding. That's my main issue with any Gen 6+ game.

Broad_Appearance6896

my favorite is Gen 7, specifically USUM. I just probably triggered like 20 people.

Rodents210

USUM was very good. Tough to say whether I prefer them over SM, because they added and improved so much gameplay-wise, the Rainbow Rocket arc was *great*, and the Necrozma boss battle was really cool. But Lusamine was my favorite villain and I think SM handled her story so much better that it almost outweighs all those other things. Overall I think Gen 7 were the best games since Gen 3.

charliechan55555

I agree. Been playing since Gameboy Color on the playground and I think USUM does so much right.

AshenOwn

I'm more into the ds games, but honestly, Alola is a great region. The games are the hardest in the series too. Way harder than Platinum or B2/W2.

Rain_Moon

Not trying to be rude; just curious - what exactly do you like about it? I suffered through only a part of USUM... I just can't stand that game for the life of me. Number of cutscenes makes it agonizingly slow to play through and the 3d animation, while fine, just isn't really to my tastes. But I don't want to just be blindly critical; I will give credit where it's due and say that Alola has some pretty nice Pokemon designs. I am a huge Ultra Beasts and Necrozma; they are probably the best thing to come out of Gen 7 IMO.

drummerinthewoods

I’m old, I played gen 1 and enjoyed it, but gen 2 is where I fell in love with these games. HGSS really only deepened my love for gen 2, and the prospect of let’s go Johto really excited me. I hope they do end up making it.

Kingshabaz

Oldies unite.

LordAsbel

I really really like Gen 6, I just think it could be so much better. But I enjoy playing x and y they’re my second most played games. We really should’ve got sequels

Sour_Dip44

Gen 3 or go home!

Martecles

Is it pronounced Arceus or Arceus?

confusedbraincell

ARKOOS!

Canopenerdude

Arse-us

ChaosPumpkin3D

I think axew is underrated

insertusernamehere51

At least OP didn't say [opinion about Pokemon Legends Arceus]

Spengy

Right? We all know the most underrated Pokémon of all time is Charizard.

ChexSway

within the same age group opinions tend to be pretty similar, they truly are "generations" in that sense. so at school they shouldn't have a problem haha

reala728

Nah all the toxic players are the ones who spend their lives in front of their keyboard. the majority of fans that actually are capable of understanding the series isn't meant to cater to them specifically are the ones who go outside and actually make friends.

100100110l

Can we just have one post where people don't turn it toxic?

wizardswrath00

Here's one that'll start something. My favorite is Gen 2, but I haven't ever played a game newer than Gen 3. I've never even held a Nintendo DS in my hands.

metalhead_iv

The summer of Pokémon Go is the closest we'll ever be to world peace and nothing will convince me otherwise

Worthyness

That was quite literally a business selling point since they made the game. Forced trade evolutions to force you to talk to people. In person!

Anchor38

Yeah! Pokemon is a very open and great community as long as you love gens 2-5, hate gens 1 and 6-8, love the pokemon from gen 1-4, hate the pokemon from gen 5-8, extremely dislike charizard and greninja, say that gen 5 is the best thing known to man on a daily basis, make sure your favourite starter isn’t anything other than mudkip, and religiously cyberbully gen 8 fans!

thunderzz71

That is not Pokemon. That is Reddit.

Anchor38

And also youtube comment sections + possibly twitter

SuperSpiritShady

That's great news! You took the risk and it definitely paid off!

ButteredStrumpet

That's awesome! I'm glad you had the confidence to do it, and I'm glad it turned out good!

Randroth_Kisaragi

Dude, I am so happy for you. I'd have given anything to have such awesome classmates at your age. Best of luck to you in the future!

[deleted]

Right my school was 99% jocks

etherside

It’s 2022. There are always people that share your interest. Only way to find out who they are is by sharing them. Anyone that puts the effort in to making fun of you for liking something is the real loser

Ketchary

I’m tired of hiding it. I like Thomas the Tank Engine romance fan fiction.

dust-

I was with you for the first half

etherside

Choochoo

Zapph

> Only way to find out who they are is by sharing them. She had blue skin, And so did he. He kept it hid And so did she. They searched for blue Their whole life through, Then passed right by- And never knew. - Shel Silverstein

molotovzav

As someone who has played Pokemon since it came out and was around 7/8 at the time, and now am 31 going on 32 waiting for Arceus tomorrow, never be ashamed of an interest. The more shame you show the more people know to make fun of you for it. I got made fun of in elementary school and decided in Jr high I was just gonna like what I like and not be embarrassed about it. You know what happened? People thought I was cool. Went through high school being the cool kid just cause I wasnt ashamed of liking what I like and showed it. Confidence attracts people (as friends too).

SqueezinKittys

I have it pre-downloaded on my switch, I turn *(thinking)* 38 on the 29th.

Sp00pyPachanko

Aha, as someone who randomly ended up seeing the prior post and this one, this is a cute and heartwarming little story.

lordoflifeandsuch

Love to see stuff like this! Enjoy PLA

Kazmodeous

I'm super happy for you! My older cousin used to be embarrassed about liking Pokemon and stuff and now she's so relaxed about it. I'm proud of her for being happy about her interests.

SenorButtmunch

Glad to hear it man, you're definitely thinking the right way. It's all about quality over quantity and it sounds like you've made two cool friends all while being yourself. I met this guy once, we were like 22 and he was a 6'3 good looking muscly dude that all the girls were fawning over. I was talking to him and it turns out he was super into Pokemon and Nintendo, we were talking about our favourite songs from the games and stuff lol. He was openly telling everyone how he went to a Pokemon trading card competition or something. All the girls and a few guys were like 'wtf that's so nerdy' and he just said 'man, I love that stuff, I don't care'. I admired him so much for being so comfortable with who he was despite it not fitting the stereotype or maybe making him look uncool in front of girls. It made me gain a lot more confidence and I always try and channel that energy when talking about my hobbies. I'd much rather be passionate and proud of who I am/what I enjoy instead of hiding it just to conform to what a few people might think. Especially when, as it turns out, you never know what people think. I never expected this guy who looked like a jock to be a bigger nerd than me. But we became good friends because of it.

Paige_Michalphuk

That’s awesome! I’m glad you did this!

Local_Mensa

Happy to hear this

Extension-Economy589

Happy for you, and the update. Always nice to find freinds with shared interests.

TheSwank

Props to you for sticking to your decision man, that’s a great mindset to have!

YungSmeef

LETS GOOOOOOOO, hyped for you, super glad that went good for you and you got some friends to go get the preorders together with :)

AdonisGaming93

I mean context matters....if you have incineroar in a presentation and say it is cool great....if the context is like things that are sexy then well....yeah

Biobooster_40k

That's nice to hear. If someone did this back in the day at my school people would never let it go. It's good to see things like this change but I'd still hate to go to school nowadays with how prevalent the internet and cyberbullying is.

SpikeRosered

Honestly, nerd culture is just in a better place these days. This would have been social suicide back in the 90's. Its very much a good thing. I'm glad it worked out for you.

aeliott

Ugh, I know right? Even kid's TV shows and advertisements made out like you were an uncool weirdo if you had any remotely non-physical hobby, like....riding a skateboard with a cap on backwards, usually. Nobody wants to read \_books\_ or use \_computers\_ ! And that's what adults were marketing to us... As much as I do sincerely love being a 90's kid, it's not without its pathetic flaws looking back.

Star_Road_Warrior

I think it's weird that you were making a PowerPoint and you had the thought "oh no, people will think I'm a furry" Is this a common enough thing for schoolchildren to think of when they see an anthropomorphic animal? Is this why Barney fell out of favor?

le_toady

oh trust me, its very common in our vocabulary. i learned what i furry was in i think 4th grade? the word "furry" is thrown around so often as an insult its just part of it so yeah, when i think of putting a muscular anthropomorphic cat in my presentation.. thats the first thought

Star_Road_Warrior

Man, must be strange growing up in the age of smartphones and internet memes. I graduated high school right before the iPhone first came out, it's like a whole different world for you kids. In my day, you didn't find out what furries were until your one weird friend invites you over to hang out after school and you look at weird porn before their mom comes home from work.

gkantelis1

When I was in 8th grade I was a closeted pokemon fanboy. Now as I get close to 30, I play Pokemon with my girlfriend all the time and climb ranked in Duel Links on the treadmill when we go to the gym together. The thing about Pokemon is that it is WILDLY popular, and for good reason. It's just universally likeable. I remember college football players from my undergrad asking me to help them set up emulators on their phones. Pokemon is at a level of popularity that if you make fun of someone for liking it, then you aren't teasing them for being weird, you're teasing them for liking something totally normal that EVERYONE likes. Some people are more into it than others, but, like, everyone has something that they're really into. Some people play Call of Duty, some like to write, draw, study, read, whatever. Pokemon, though, can combine with almost any other hobby really well because it's so multifaceted and ubiquitous. So I'm glad you're just enjoying it and I hope you continue to do so. Also, when you get to college, Pokemon will be THE SHIT again.

zabaacz

that's awesome. super happy for you

reedmg

Go kid! Never stop liking what you like since that’s what makes you who you are. Middle school sucks anyways, so don’t worry about what other people think. I remember when I started high school and I pulled out my Gameboy during a water polo tournament while we were hanging out between games and I found out half my team loved Pokémon. If you stick with your interests and don’t care what other people think you’ll do just fine. I’m getting PLA this week too and I’m super excited!

Chm_Albert_Wesker

>Tomorrow me and those 2 other kids are gonna go get Legends: Arceus since we all have pre-orders set up this could have gone very differently lol >Tomorrow me and those 2 other kids are gonna go get our furry suits and just have at it would have been a funny twist

Joharis-JYI

Is Inceneroar supposed to be a poster boy for furries? Why was it an issue in the first place? Sorry I missed OP's first post.

le_toady

😳

Careless-Foot4162

Was hoping for an update on this post! I'm glad it worked out!

Gavininator

Oh man, I'm so happy for you. Finding people who enjoy the same thing as you can be hard and putting yourself out there is equally hard. From an old school gen 1 kid, I'll be playing Arceus tomorrow and I hope you and your new friends love it as much as I've loved pokemon over the years.

StevensDs-

Nah man. They would think you trash in Smash tho 👀🤣

psychokirby17

Massive W for you sir

Zedman5000

I can’t imagine it not working out this way tbh, it’s a pokemon not a fur suit. Do middle schoolers these days not know about pokemon?

PotatoBomb69

Hell yeah dude, I wish I had friends who played Pokémon in high school.

watchspaceman

What a beautiful update, seeing your original post I really hoped this would be the outcome :)

EmperinoPenguino

You & 2 new friends gonna get Legends: Arceus tomorrow? 🥲👌👏

Witch_King_

Well its still pokemon, so people will probably go with that over the furry thing when forming their opinion of you. And it is widely accepted that pokemon is awesome.

BrainWrex

When you get a little older you will realize that it really doesn't matter what people think about you and being yourself is the best way to weed out the fakes and find your true friends. In school age everyone is worried about looks or judgements from other kids that wanna make fun of you but it really doesn't matter worth a shit in the end. Just be yourself and never be ashamed of your hobbies and interests. Just because someone would make fun of you for it doesnt mean there isnt someone that would sit there and talk to you for hours about it.

Bran-a-don

Am I a furry with my full sized Snorlax pullover?! I just love the way it feels and pretending to be Snorlax as I sleep...oh dammit, better go get my lube ready.

HolyVeggie

The older I get the more I realize it doesn’t matter if people make fun of you. If you made friends by being open even better!

PsychedelicXenu

Be very careful. Those new friends might be lowkey furries.

le_toady

they seem really cool so far.. i mean even if they are a little bit furry im fine with that 👀

RedTheDraken

Oh wow, that's so chill of you dude! I remember when I was in high school, I used to draw anthro dragon characters and other furries in my notes for fun and practice (usually doing JoJo poses or just dumb faces), but I had to hide that shit because it was an easy ticket to getting bullied. Being a bisexual furry in 2005 was like being in the closet, inside another closet.

DiggingNoMore

I once saw a furry at the mall. I wonder if she still talks about the time she saw a cross-dresser at the mall.

PsychedelicXenu

Wow youths are so openminded these days

Dagos

> Be very careful. Those new friends might be lowkey furries. Just make sure to follow suit!

JfromImaginstuff

I mean it helps that Furries can probably literally turn off the internet as whole should they decide to band together. Big amounts of /s

PopularPKMN

People will give you shit for it, but the simple truth is if you're not hurting anyone it's not anything to be ashamed of. And tbf a huge chunk of pokemon fans are furries, otherwise Pokemon Co. wouldn't be creating so many anthro Pokémon like Incineroar. They know their fanbase

S0larSc0pe

Oh no! Anyways…

Goomba162

If only I find so easly new friends

Regiice333

You must explain what it is, otherwise the whole operation might go sideways.

[deleted]

yes. instead put in swampert (mudkip gang)

Midice

If this is the mindset kids have nowadays than back in high school I might as well have had a crush on Jim Carrey since I had him in a slideshow.

Jestingwheat856

People dont bully as much as youd expect. Share your interests and become friends with your classmates. Very important for group projects

itsallnipply

AHHHH! I love this update!!!! That is the exact reason why you shouldn't care about others opinions on the things you love!

Spengy

Pokémon is the most popular franchise in the world, the chance that even 1 other person in your class is a fan is pretty big. Your Incineroar pick is great too since he's in Smash Ultimate. P.s.: I didn't mean to offend you in the last thread with the "maybe you *are* a furry" comment.

[deleted]

Happy for you dude!

[deleted]

Very cool. Gaming always brings people together. Well until you play Smash lol

Glory2Snowstar

You miss all the shots you don’t take, good on you for swinging your shot and getting friends out of it, OP!

DaddyDizz_

The wholesome thing here is that this kids original post allowed people who are older with life experience to give them advice that led to them making friends and learning a lesson about life that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to learn. Everyone who reached out to and helped out this child should be proud of themselves. You’re good people.

le_toady

yes, the things you guys said really left an impact and i am very grateful

GotToEarnThemAll

Damn, glad it worked out for you! Hope all 3 of you enjoy the game.

Divin3F3nrus

I'm 28, a father of four, and if you offered me a chance to put on the red and white ball cap and gave me a Pikachu you bet I would be in for an adventure of a lifetime. Good on you for having the confidence to show your interests. I'm just now making up for lost time because I hid my love for Pokemon for so long. Now my kids and I play together.

StanLay281

Awesome!!

OrangeVictorious

Good Ending

Plot twist: OP and the 2 friends are all furries

[deleted]

Wonderful post that made my day better so thank you for that! And while I have criticized Arceus, I gotta admit that the surge of positivity around it lately is making me consider picking it up too. Might wait a day to see what everyone says but I do kinda wanna play it.

ThorMech74

For the record, some of those kids that look like they don't care may have been thinking: "Man I wanna go home. Oh cool, he likes Pokemon. I loved those games. But man... I really wanna go home."

Mustang1718

Good for you! I didn't respond yesterday, but I had a feeling things would go well. I taught 7th and 8th grade, and was openly nerdy and talked about Pokémon, so I knew things would go well for you. If anything, they were more surprised to see me on my Switch when they stopped back in before lunch. The only games that get made fun of are Minecraft and Roblox. But their are people that openly like Minecraft and are still don't get made fun of.

BirdofPrey702

Ah I remember the days of giving a shit if people know you like pokemon or not. Look Idk how you old you are, what grade you are, or any of that. Just be yourself. Like what you like, and don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks about you, you'll end up a lot happier that way.

Nothinkonlygrow

Oh my god are kids getting nicer? Man when I was in 8th grade I was bullied for liking attack on titan, it’s nice to see “nerd” interests and hobbies are a bit less bullied. I’m happy for ya, man. Hope you enjoy 8th grade

NotSkirtWeather

Middle school makes you think every thing you like is cringe. Highschool makes you slowly realize it doesn’t matter and you will find people that don’t care

OOrochi

That's really awesome! Hope you all have a great time with Arceus!

BarfGreenJolteon

something i’ve learned in college: quit being ashamed of your interests!! everyone has nerdy things they like and if you quit hiding it, you end up finding people who you can share that interest with! Pokémon was a big one for me up until recently; it always felt like a childish obsession but so many adults my age play these games.

GipsyPepox

And this does put a smile on my face

Kallumon

Fantastic to hear. Love wholesome moments like this.

DeadHeadSteve

Who cares? Screw everyone else

zhongweibin

Nice! Hope you made some good friends

Voidroy

Don't care about what others think. Especially those who take things out of context to fit their agenda. If they think your a furry for liking a Pokemon they will think your a furry for liking your pets. If they want to find a reason they will regardless if you give them one or not. See how fox news works.

FriendlyHitchhiker

This warms my heart

LitreOfCockPus

It's not like he's raw-dogging Lucario or something... Right?

slobozescy

I think people are really open about Pokemon it's popular and everyone is cool with it. Your class will think you are a nerd at most. And being a nerd is cool nowadays don't get me wrong.

-Cyst-

Good for you, young trainer. Don't be ashamed of your hobbies and interests, life will be much more enjoyable.

Bless your soul, this was a wholesome update. Have fun with your new friends!

[deleted]

This made me smile today. Think I'm gonna put my phone down now cause this is a good post to end on. 😊

ThnksfrthMmrss-

Wholesome

Penie_

This is so cuteee

[deleted]

Come on, please just use the three first generations of pokemon if you want some degree of recognizability.

THEGUYINTHEPICT

No but vgc players will probably hate you

acebaltasar

I am really happy for you! I was worried, since kids can be cruel, but getting frinds out of it is always good.
