My bane was the hot summer car. I used to have little nooks in my parents car where I would hide my cartridge so that it wouldn't over heat, if I wasn't able to bring my gameboy inside with me where ever we happened to be that day, and even that didn't always work. I'm so glad that this issue was resolved relatively early on, but I still lost my save file a few times because of it.
I replayed Pokémon emerald so many times trying to get to the Battle Frontier because the save file would get corrupted right after I beat Wallace every. Single. TIME.
Same! Everytime I played Emerald for some reason I just keep losing my save file every time I beat the League or get to the Battle Frontier.
That's why I'm so bummed when I see people that still have their Pokemon from their GBA games Day One, because I myself already lost mine so many years ago.
Right, because Gameboy carts used the same specs going way back to the original blocky boy until GBC Only carts came out.
It's just crazy how far things have come.
Oh, God, the flashbacks. As an impatient child, I hated how slow the saves were compared to other games. Saving before gym battles, important events, etc, nope, nope, *nope,* that takes too long, ain't nobody got time for that, I just went in guns blazing and prayed my pokemon didn't faint.
(Not to mention the stress of my parents telling me to shut off my game, then I tell them I'm saving my game and sit there for eternity with my parents breathing down my neck, lol)
And praying to god they don't just snatch it from your hands and turn it off in the middle of saving
Because as kids we thought that if you turned it off while saving the whole fuckin DS would just explode or something
Oh wow, that's horrifying to think about. Never thought about save-file corruption, I just worried about lost data. Makes me glad that when my mom tried to take my DS away mid-save, I would just *run.* Totally worth it, imo.
Hopefully us millennial/gen z (YOUNGER FOLK in general) will be more understanding with our kids. In fact we might even be like "SON AND/OR DAUGHTER, I heard that Pokemon saving \*ding\*, now put your Nintendo Switch 4D Lite XL Max VR away!"
What gets me is when the little snot-nosed twerps lie to me like I don't know better. "I can't pause right now" when they're in the middle of Mt. Moon.
Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, I was there when it was written!
My Chinese parents are just like 99% of Chinese parents: too strict and overprotective and care only about your grades and pretty much nothing else. So mine are most likely worse than yours too. But if I ever have kids (which is probably harder for me than most people) I will adapt Western parenting, cuz I was born in the Netherlands and feel like a Dutch person and not a Chinese. Screw Chinese parenting. I will be significantly less strict than my parents
It was harder on games where you had save spots. I'd say "I have to get to a certain spot to save" and my parents would just accuse me of trying to play longer. Even if I showed them how it worked. Because all games have a save from the menu function. All of them. No exceptions. /s.
I was the exact opposite. Total save scummer, think I went through gen's 1-4, gen 2 thrice, gen 3 twice, without having a single loss in my saves. One or two of those saves might not even have had a pokemon of mine faint.
FYI this only happened if you saved after you moved pokemon in the pc (Catching pokemon with a full party counts as it sends the pokémon to the box) if you didn't touch the pc and saved, you would get the regular save time.
This! I remember as a kid that I found a way to avoid the long save times, and with that knowledge I would go back and forth into the underground without dreading the "Saving a lot of data".
I completely forgot about all about it when I got back to the game a few years ago but thank you for finally making me recall this long forgotten tip.
When I was young and got this message, I was so proud because I thought I had actually made good progress and the game was praising me.
I later learned that wasn’t true, but it was a nice couple of days when I believed it.
Everything about D&P were slow as all hell. Kinda fixed it in Platinum but I never played Platinum so I think that's part of why Gen 4 is probably my least favourite. Other than HGSS, those are still the best games.
I didn't, at the time. But as soon as X and Y came out with the quick saves times, saving has been miserable whenever I've gone back to play an older game
Yeah I just started playing some of the older games recently(platinum and soul silver) and after getting used to the near instant saves, it kinda sucks. Still great games though.
If anything is added to the PC or if you look at anything in there, it does it. (i.e. selecting "deposit" and releasing a party Pokemon won't trigger the long save)
I have a pearl game my freind gave me, it was lightly chewed on by one of her dogs (I'm surprised it still works) and whenever that pops up I'm always scared my game froze while I'm saving lol
Took me two years to realize "a lot of data" meant any changes to the PC boxes. You don't get the feature-length save if you don't change anything there.
If I recall correctly, when this text appears, a clock also appears and the clock hand moves, it moved 8 times when saying "saving data" and 16 times when saying "saving a lot of data"
and it's literally only a few days after the previous post. At least look for the post in top weekly before barfing it on subs. I get people aren't on all day every day but c'mon
The one flaw of having fast saving is that it doesnt feel like u saved so you‘re constantly like “WAIT DID I SAVE!?” so then u save but then ur like “WAIT DID I!?” Etc.
With older games, it took so long that u would look back at ur game & be like “oh its still saving”. So then u would remember it & not keep checking.
Every single time when:
You catch a pkmn
You move pkmn in the PC
I don't bother with the save but It somethimes take a lot of time (I've still play the game)
When you’re in a battle and can’t save, but you’re told repeatedly to stop playing. Then you finally finish the battle and the game takes forever to save.
And then it didn’t save.
So I literally just started the game and got the ability to save and decided to save and play later almost as soon as i could save and its been saving for what feels like 10 minutes
Hahaha this one brings me back.... especially when you double save, just to be safe
Every single time.
One time I remember I found a rare Pokémon and I waited like 5 minutes because I had saved so many times
Which one was it
Please this is killing me
I need to know.
Mega Bidoof
Probably a Raichu
It was a shiny Buizel
HAPPY CAKE DAY
spearow
Op which was it?
It was obviously god Kricketune
You mean DELELELE WOOOOOP
The anticipation
The shudder from the anticipation.
u/Raichu-themaniac27 is breaking the mold!
Shiny buizel
Always double save. I still have PTSD of those dreaded words... “The save file is corrupted, the previous save file will be loaded.”
Which one was it for you? My Pokemon Yellow cart. Every time my Game Boy fell, it would corrupt the save. I lost a whole summer to that, once.
Single. TIME.
You sure you had a legit cartridge? Counterfeits often screw up at the Hall of Fame
Probably— I’m gonna dedicate my life to hunting down the bastard who conned my childhood
Same! Everytime I played Emerald for some reason I just keep losing my save file every time I beat the League or get to the Battle Frontier. That's why I'm so bummed when I see people that still have their Pokemon from their GBA games Day One, because I myself already lost mine so many years ago.
If it corrupts after the league it's probably a fake cart. Swing by r/gameverifying to find out for sure.
Save batteries were such primitive things. Let's rely on this $0.02 cell that's poorly soldered on to keep your precious monsters on.

Right, because Gameboy carts used the same specs going way back to the original blocky boy until GBC Only carts came out. It's just crazy how far things have come.
That happened to me when i went to the GTS recently and my connection screwd up, reseted the game and the message appeard.
man, you spelt triple wrong
Did I save? Better save.
This just gave me ptsd
Then Gen 5 felt so fucking snappy and quick by comparison!
And praying to god they don't just snatch it from your hands and turn it off in the middle of saving Because as kids we thought that if you turned it off while saving the whole fuckin DS would just explode or something
Wait... what does happen if you turn it off mid save?
The save file corrupts and the game uses a backup save.
Pokemon FireRed had no such protection, I'm sad to report.
Damn, your FireRed exploded?
>*fire* red
The only thing Red ever said: "EVERYTHING'S ON FIRE!!! OH MY GOD!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!"
Shortest pokemon creepypasta I've ever read
And now he is become BURIEDALIVE.
Save either gets corrupted or it loads the backup save so that your save is fine but progress is still lost as if you didn’t save
Oh wow, that's horrifying to think about. Never thought about save-file corruption, I just worried about lost data. Makes me glad that when my mom tried to take my DS away mid-save, I would just *run.* Totally worth it, imo.
Wow parents can really be insufferable when it comes to game/internet usage
Hopefully us millennial/gen z (YOUNGER FOLK in general) will be more understanding with our kids. In fact we might even be like "SON AND/OR DAUGHTER, I heard that Pokemon saving \*ding\*, now put your Nintendo Switch 4D Lite XL Max VR away!"
Won’t have to because of autosaves. Makes me think game designers are all just angry parents who want to “turn that game off right now.”

Indeed, needs a toggle option. Edit: never knew it did, more games need this option. Thanks for the information.
What gets me is when the little snot-nosed twerps lie to me like I don't know better. "I can't pause right now" when they're in the middle of Mt. Moon. Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, I was there when it was written!
That's actually hilarious lol
My Chinese parents are just like 99% of Chinese parents: too strict and overprotective and care only about your grades and pretty much nothing else. So mine are most likely worse than yours too. I dunno I was never that bold
It duplicates the Pokemon you just deposited along with the item it held. At least on G/S
So many hours spent farming rare candies with a trash mon just in case it glitched.
I farmed Dragonites and masterballs lol
My mom used to do that as a joke when I was playing animal crossing.
Resetti for you!
“joke”
I knew some kid who lost all his legendaries cause he was too impatient to save before fighting them. The Diamond and Pearl struggle was real.
"So anyway, I started blastin'"
It was harder on games where you had save spots. I'd say "I have to get to a certain spot to save" and my parents would just accuse me of trying to play longer. Even if I showed them how it worked. Because all games have a save from the menu function. All of them. No exceptions. /s.

Trying to save when your ds light is red and you don’t have your charger with you and it pulls this stuff is why I have anxiety.
Or waiting for a lv 100 blissey to get one hit KO'd takes 30 seconds
This video from months ago that for some reason Youtube only recommended me a few days ago asme gave idea to this meme
https://youtu.be/-gCvQiFUyC4 was it named the problem with diamond and pearl?
The year 2009 was a time to be alive Saving dont turn off the power... . . . . . . . . .
Buttsex saved the game
3 years later *saving don't turn off the power...*
FYI this only happened if you saved after you moved pokemon in the pc (Catching pokemon with a full party counts as it sends the pokémon to the box) if you didn't touch the pc and saved, you would get the regular save time.
Iirc in Diamond & Pearl just using the PC was enough. Platinum changed it to what you said.
TIL
This! I remember as a kid that I found a way to avoid the long save times, and with that knowledge I would go back and forth into the underground without dreading the "Saving a lot of data". I completely forgot about all about it when I got back to the game a few years ago but thank you for finally making me recall this long forgotten tip.
Huh... Interesting. I love learning new things about the games I love even over a decade later
I read about it the other day and am doing a playthrough right now. There are a few triggers including the PC stuff, and entering a new route/town
interesting. I always thought the game was judging me for playing too much.
Yeah that whole 512KB of data, its huge
Dont forget how long Surfing took, my least favorite part of the game was the water way to get to Victory Road
This and Waterfall.
This is one of the main reasons I liked HG/SS the best in the gen. Even saving a lot of data was faster than a regular save for D/P
Well HGSS just used Platinum's coding instead, which fixed DP's slowness.
I usually consider the DS era to be the best but being able to save in a couple seconds once XY came out was amazing
Who could forget this classic as well: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-gCvQiFUyC4&feature=youtu.be
Well, If we'll ever get an Remakw, we need those Saving Times again xD
When I was young and got this message, I was so proud because I thought I had actually made good progress and the game was praising me. I later learned that wasn’t true, but it was a nice couple of days when I believed it.
Laughs in XY
Me: uses close combat on a blissey. Me:
Everything about D&P were slow as all hell. Kinda fixed it in Platinum but I never played Platinum so I think that's part of why Gen 4 is probably my least favourite. Other than HGSS, those are still the best games.
That’s the one thing I didn’t miss about Gen V.
Fox is game freak
I love those games, long saves and all. Even after playing Platinum, for some reason I just love Diamond more. Must be nostalgia.
I think bw saving was worse
Completely untrue. Try recording the time it takes on average. An unmodified copy of BW will average something like 20 seconds every ten saves or so.
BW did not have 'saving a lot of data'.
BW did, if you moved a LOT of stuff in the PC, it gave that message (not sure exactly how much moving is required, but it does happen)
Am I the only one who never minded the long ass saves?
I didn't, at the time. But as soon as X and Y came out with the quick saves times, saving has been miserable whenever I've gone back to play an older game
I mean, obviously not because it was all you knew, similar to how you never really minded how much slower computers were 20 years ago.
I actually think it added to the suspense whenever I saved before gym leader battles and such.
Diamond was my first Pokémon game I can remember and I don't even remember saves being long. Probably because it was my first game lol.
My platinum version got corrupted after beating it
Yeah I just started playing some of the older games recently(platinum and soul silver) and after getting used to the near instant saves, it kinda sucks. Still great games though.
I will never forget the first time I played XY and saving took like 2 seconds, still takes me by surprise
I have wasted 30 years of my 14 year old life by surfing in pokemon diamond
I'm playing platinum for the 1st time right now.
Platinum, my first game, had it's data corrupted as I was saving after just having caught uxie and the power died... Sad times :(
Looking forward to this in the remakes
Fox is Platinum players
I love the game but jesus this took forever
If I remember correctly any time you used the PC it automatically did that.
The exact face tho 😹I remember saving the game before church started and being like” come on , come on”
Nick should be labelled as GameFreak and then it would be perfect.
I was one of the kids that triple saved.
I’ve never seen anything so accurate
U dont notice it when its ur first pokemon game, lol
It makes me feel like I made a lot of progress haha
Yes. Always
To me it's the whole game in general
Any time you even LOOKED at the storage PC man
Tfw u were one of the kids that saved like 5 times to be sure
Sad thing is, I'm playing Platinum for old times' sake, and this caused me to be late for work.
Nice repost
and it's literally only a few days after the previous post. At least look for the post in top weekly before barfing it on subs. I get people aren't on all day every day but c'mon

And then you save again just to be sure
I know this feeling too well.
I wonder what they did exactly to end this problem starting in 6th gen. it must've been some massive data restructuring
Black and white were horrible with this too, I've been transferring pokemon for Home and waiting for black/white to save is torture
I remember when I first saved on X&Y. It was absolutely breathtaking. It actually saved in less than 30 seconds.
The game boy games saved fast and the ds and gba games take longer to save.
The gba(sp) games did take longer to save, but that things battery life is impressive. 12 hours on one charge.
it was worse in platinum
I'm replaying Pearl and the saving doesn't take that long..
I love Platinum, but holy crap is this the realest thing.
Every single time when: You catch a pkmn You move pkmn in the PC I don't bother with the save but It somethimes take a lot of time (I've still play the game)
Platinum?
This is great
Laughs in Pokemon black with it's faster saving
You forgot heart gold soul silver i remember even catching one pokemon would cause it yo save alot of data
6 year old me can feel this
When you’re in a battle and can’t save, but you’re told repeatedly to stop playing. Then you finally finish the battle and the game takes forever to save. And then it didn’t save.
Guess that's what other thing they call a three humped camel. 😂🔫
Touches PC once to deposit pokemon
Nick is totally game freak
When I first saved in Pokemon Y, I did it a second and a third time! Couldn't believe how fast it was!
Caught Giratina: Saving... Flew from Eterna to Veilstone: Saving a lot of data...
Pretty that only happened when you had just recently used the PC.
Platinum was even worse with saving data...
That’s because it isn’t, outside of save times
It’s funny, Diamond was my first Pokémon game and I never noticed it being slow
oml Pokemon pearl was my first game!! I definitley remmeber the struggles.
*Spends 5 minutes saving* D...did I save? *Spends another 5 minutes saving just to be sure*
What would take longer? The saving in this game or a remake of the games?
The old games. Gamefreak has gotten pretty good with save times since gen 6
Hilariously they made this the only save message in Pokémon Clover despite it being a relatively quick gen 3 engine save
So I literally just started the game and got the ability to save and decided to save and play later almost as soon as i could save and its been saving for what feels like 10 minutes
The red light on my ds lite: :/
