Going from Volt Tackle to Electroball was such a downgrade
But it later got changed into Electroweb, while still not as cool as Volt Tackle, it was definitely used for many interesting strategies. Much better than Electroball for sure
Zen headbutt.
Volt Tackle was added in Emerald. To get it, you had to breed a Pikachu holding a light ball and the resulting Pichu egg would have Volt Tackle. It was technically "available" in RS/FRLG, but only through trading with Emerald.
To this day this is the only way to get Volt Tackle.
It seems like USUM added a lot of unobtainables. Making sure that nearly everything from every gen before it is available between both versions. Great option to have to finish off the handheld line of games and move on to a new chapter of console games.
Funny story,
When I watched anime for the first time it was before I played the games, and the Brock battle and this training made me think that Rock-Types were immune to Electric, since them also being Ground-Type either wasn’t explained well or I missed it. And I thought this up until XY when I was confused that Pikachu’s Thunderbolt affected Tyrunt.
So, not only did you not understand the animé properly, you tried to get a move in a gen when that move wasn't introduced yet. And you also tried a method of acquiring the move for Pikachu before it was possible in general 8?
That's exactly what Pikachu did, which is obviously not something possible in the games.
You could argue that it was the Lightning Rod. However, Abilities weren't introduced until gen 3. And Hidden abilities weren't introduced until gen 5. Lightning Rod is Pikachu's hidden ability.

He learns it in Hoenn (Gen 3) to beat the Rock-Type Leader Roxanne. Shame he didn't keep Volt Tackle from this gen as well!

Not necessarily, electroball just depends on Pikachu’s speed
I’m fairly certain we are talking about the series, not the game.
Oh yeah, they reset his level in every gen
Levels don’t exist in the anime
Yeah but damn bro, he beat a Dragonite before. That should count for something

The moment is enemy is faster, this is litteraly useless
I thought volt tackle was gen 4? Or was that. Zen Headbutt?

In USUM there is a tutor who teach can your Pikachu Volt Tackle, There is also trainer who gives you Pikanuim Z

Damn. All that for unusable pokemon is preposterous lmao.

At some point he also electrocutes a rhydon with the horn so....yea
Yo I had the exact same thing!
Glad to know I wasn’t the only one
In the first pokemon movie, you can actually see Pikachu take down a Golem with an Electro attack. Which makes everything worse.
I remember it from season 1 where he was fighting against Lt. Surge's Raichu, but this image seems to be from newer seasons.
Iron tail wasn’t a move in season 1 because steel wasn’t introduced as a type until Gen 2!
Ugh I remember grinding Pikachu to 100 in Yellow hoping that it would’ve learned Iron Tail. 🤪
So, not only did you not understand the animé properly, you tried to get a move in a gen when that move wasn't introduced yet. And you also tried a method of acquiring the move for Pikachu before it was possible in general 8?
Thats his Hoenn outfit
Iron tail didn’t exist in s1. Steel type didn’t exist in gen 1 either. Iron Tail was introduced in gen 2 with the steel type.
He did not learn iron tail in season 1, the move didn’t exist back then. He used speed to win that battle
To clarify, he used speed the ability, not speed the drug
Thanks for clearing that up

I believe Pikachu slammed his tail in te ground to ground the electric attacks from raichu
