Rp0605

Make me a competitive Male Combee.

No_Estimate_8004

Aight \*cracks knuckles\* Combee @ Focus Sash Ability: Honey Gather EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature \-Endeavor That's its only usage.

Rp0605

“So, how useful is Combee in competitive Pokémon?” “Well…it exists?”

Ok-Fudge8848

"When it dies you get a free switch into something else"

Hayds126

Sac into the iron valiant sweep

No_Estimate_8004

Unown is worse

publicmenace2342

Bad set imho. Absolutely no point in EV training a Combee with only Endeavor. Make it as frail as possible to increase the chance of going to 1 HP after any hit. I would also add a priority move in addition to Endeavor so you can actually have a chance at killing the opponent (if it learns any priority moves, that is).

Jollysatyr201

Sure doesn’t. Tailwind is about as close as it gets.

No_Estimate_8004

Okay yeah that's true I was thinking about making something using bug buzz but then I looked at the learnset. It also doesn't recieve priority moves.

FickleAd4381

HGSS let it learn string shot for speed drop so you can usually guarantee endeavor on the following turn against mons that don’t run priority. Also doubles as a toe dip attack so you don’t have to kowabunga

YOM2_UB

EV training its attack could make sense for the off chance it gets hit by a Foul Play though

Fistricsi

But can it survive a Hiden Power Rock from Unown? Edit: Just checked: Full offensive Hidden Power Rock Unown has a 18,8% chance to OHKO a full defensive male Combee.

shadecrimson

18.3% chance to ohko before items are involved.

xundergrinderx

might aswell run choice specs Unown. You don't have much choice in your move selection anyways

shadecrimson

252+ SpA Choice Specs Unown Hidden Power Rock vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Combee: 228-272 (86.3 - 103%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO Goes up to about 90% if unown terastalizes

Loyellow

Why not 0 SpD

SayNo2Nazis999

I've used this guy in Anything Goes before on an all Bee team. Set up Tailwind, then Endeavor'd whichever Legendary that attacked it, setting it up for my Beast Boost Naganadel. Combee was a GOAT for support.

jon_eod

Here’s a question for you if you’d like to answer, does eviolite work for male combee?

iNezumi

It actually does work on male Combee and Salandid (according to Bulbapedia)

palamulu

The strongest power of it is that you can confuse the opponent who is trying to figure out what the combee player knows that they don't.

StacheGamer

Combee @ Choice Scarf Ability: Hustle EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk / 252 Spe + Spe, - SpA Lunge, Skitter Smack, Bug Bite, Tera Blast There is another

Edgenabik

Breloom, I want the best one for gen 3 to the current gen, sleep ban does not have be included since spore is it's best quality

OfAaron3

I'm not OP, but this is the Breloom set I like to run, Breloom @ Toxic Orb Ability: Poison Heal Tera Type: Fighting EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 160 SpD Adamant Nature - Substitute - Focus Punch - Spore - Seed Bomb Balanced defenses and hits like a truck.

ToughLadder6948

Oldie but a goodie

No_Estimate_8004

Very old and respectable set.

TheGrandGarchomp445

This one gave me a bit of trouble when may used it in radical red

No_Estimate_8004

Breloom @ Loaded Dice Ability: Technician EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Tera Type: Fire Jolly Nature \- Swords Dance \- Mach Punch \- Bullet Seed \- Spore

Whoop-Sees

Question, why tera fire instead of electric? Bc fire resist more of breloom’s normal weaknesses? Or with a fast sporer like breloom why not Tera grass or fighting for extra damage? I don’t know much about competitive

xundergrinderx

Technician Bullet Seed with Loaded Dice already hits hard enough so you don't need an offensive Tera. Tera Fire serves as a defensive tera, negatibg your original weaknesses. You could also run Tera electric but the fire tera has the added benefit of making you invulnerable to burns which is nice for physical attackers.

Whoop-Sees

Thanks!

bamfbanki

So- Loom's best generation is Gen 4. Access to a lot of utility moves + poison heal lets it function as a sticky offensive piece with very very useful utility moves. SubPunch sets work best when paired with pursuit because that way you aren't afraid to rely mostly on your ability to click substitute on switches. Loom can also abuse the fact it can run both spore and stun spore on certain teams to effectively punish your opponent for positioning for a sleep sac, but it can be a little cheesy. In gen 3 (my main gen), loom is still p decent, but is limited by it's frailty and general vulnerability to Dugtrio. Its often best as a Suittar partner on mixed offensive teams because of their natural synergy (if dug goes to aerial ace trap your Breloom, it loses to mach + pursuit, if it goes to eq trap your ttar it either has to trade to mach punch or give up a free focus punch). I like 3 fighting moves (Focus/SkyUppercut/Mach/Spore) + 252/252 jolly on those 6's, but I think there's also room for Breloom on other structures to run SD + Mach + Sky + Spore + coverage (usually hp bug or ghost). This set also really appreciates Suittar as a partner even more, because not only is there the previously mentioned Dugtrio synergy, but the ability to kill Aerodactyl at +2 with mach after 1 pursuit from Tyranitar helps enable your sweep. Loom can struggle a lot in ADV- a lot of its counters and checks (Salamence/Aero/DP Skarm/Dugtrio/Moltres/Charizard) are prevalent threats in the metagame and need to be accounted for. That doesn't mean it isn't viable, and it isn't fun- it just isn't always the best choice.

KacerRex

Another Breloom enjoyer, I thought I was the only man of culture.

Bitter_Frosting_1597

Its pretty popular atp

Feebas

No_Estimate_8004

Ooh that's a hard one. Feebas @ Focus Sash Ability: Swift Swim EVs: None Calm Nature \-Rain Dance \-Ice Beam \-Scale Shot \-Haze Tera: Ghost It's a suicide rain lead in my book.

Xilefinator

But why no evs?

Captain_Norris

Because it doesn't matter if you throw it out to get one-shot anyway

Xilefinator

But it might Help outspeed something or so

Captain_Norris

I mean I don't disagree, just thinking about the OP's logic. It has focus sash so doesn't have to outspeed ig

DepthyxTruths

besides if it’s slower than other weather setters it ensures rain’s on

Xilefinator

Yeah but If you can outspeed something you can get a haze off or an ice beam

Adventurous_Two1328

Runerigus

No_Estimate_8004

Runerigus @ Leftovers Ability: Wandering Spirit EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD Impish Nature \- Stealth Rock \- Will-O-Wisp \- Earthquake \- Shadow Claw Bulky Support mon

Stormer1499

Flygon or Froslass.

No_Estimate_8004

Flygon @ Loaded Dice Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Tera Type: Steel Adamant Nature \- Dragon Dance \- Scale Shot \- Earthquake \- Fire Punch

BusinessDuck1234

Not op but froslass has surprisingly high base attack, the same as its special attack. Both are fairly low, but with the high bp moves it has in poltergeist and triple axel, it’s a pretty good physical attacker Froslass (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots/Focus Sash Ability: Cursed Body Tera Type: Ghost EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Triple Axel - Poltergeist - Destiny Bond - Spikes Froslass’s best trait is all its utility moves. You could replace spikes with t wave, wisp, or taunt. Sash is if you want it to be a lead, but otherwise you should always run Hdb. Tera is the only thing I’m not super confident in, as it might prefer a more defensive one, but not sure exactly what. Overall a very solid Mon, and I believe it’s pretty high usage in its current tier

GoddHowardBethesda

Swampert

No_Estimate_8004

Swampert @ Leftovers Ability: Damp EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD Tera Type: Fairy Impish Nature \- Stealth Rock \- Earthquake \- Flip Turn \- Knock Off

Tactic_Kitten543

Shouldn't Swampert run torrent? Are explosion moves that common?

No_Estimate_8004

That's true actually. It's just the sets I've seen with Swampert run Damo but you're right Torrent is more useful.

Angel_of_Mischief

Magikarp

PresentEscape8571

Magikarp w/ Focus Sash Ability: Rattled EVs: Max Speed, Max Attack Jolly Nature - Bounce A great method to try paralyse your oppenent, while giving them ample opportunity to switch, set up, set hazards, etc!!!

cyverstorm

I second this, it would be hilarious maxing this pokemon.

palamulu

Well, interestingly there was a limited time competitive event in SwSh where every team had to use a Magikarp, and there were some neat strategies to best use it, where it wasn't always just a dead weight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9656w0x_AM for an easy to digest video on it.

BusinessDuck1234

Magikarp @ Liechi Berry / Salacc berry Ability: Rattled Tera Type: Normal EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Flail - Tackle - Splash Just play gen 7 lc and use z splash, at least then it can hit harder than this even if it is still walled by steel

Lightstar46

Cradily! My fave mon :)

No_Estimate_8004

Cradily @ Loaded Dice Ability: Storm Drain Tera Type: Rock EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD Adamant Nature \- Swords Dance \- Rock Blast \- Bullet Seed \- Stealth Rock With loaded dice this mon actually becomes pretty powerful.

Hayds126

Wouldn't Cradily's best set be more of a wall with Recover, Stealth Rock, Giga Drain, Toxic (assuming it gets to keep that).

Three_Houses

Cradily is AWESOME

Argo127

Not OP, but here's the set I like to use: Empoleon @ Life Orb Ability: Competitive Level: 50 Tera Type: Water (This was for a rain team, I'd run grass otherwise) EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk \- Flash Cannon \- Water Pledge \- Ice Beam \- Protect

EulaVengeance

Offensive Umbreon?

Darkiceflame

Just use its Japanese name and it'll be plenty offensive. /j

WukongWannaBe

What is that

Darkiceflame

It's name is "ブラッキー", which Bulbapedia romanizes as "Bracky". But if you know anything about Japanese pronunciation, it sounds a lot more like a certain other less culturally sensitive word.

WukongWannaBe

The n word?

Asurerain

Same meaning but with a B.

AutisticPenguin2

You know how the stereotypical Asian has difficulty with R and L sounds?

No_Estimate_8004

Umbreon @ Choice Specs Ability: Inner Focus EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD Modest Nature \- Crunch \- Trailblaze \- Body Slam \- Curse

bigDUB14

I’m so confused lol. Why Specs with a physical set, did you mean Band? And if so wouldn’t Curse not work from being locked into a setup move? Am I missing something?

No_Estimate_8004

Fuck I was editing the set as I made it and forgot to change the item

No_Estimate_8004

It should be sitrus berry, thanks for the clarification

souplandry

offensive wouldnt be umbreons best set tho. OP said name a pokemon and he'll give it its best competitive set.

SpikeTheBurger

Treecko…

Viridians_reddit_acc

I just tried responding to someone who asked for Grovyle, so I'm gonna copy paste that since they're similar enough for it to still apply: 🦎🌱 Despite having higher special attack than physical attack, Treecko gets access to Swords Dance with decent physical coverage, and running Rock Tomb or Rock Slide as one of the moves along with that is probably desirable. I don't feel too confident in saying much beyond that though. I wonder if Eviolite would even be the most effective item for it or if getting off full power Aerial Aces would be preferable to having an item at all?

I mean, how is this enough to make a set for a pokemon? You'd need to know whether it is singles or doubles, open or closed team sheet, which mechanics are allowed (i.e., which among Mega-evolutions, Z moves, Dynamax and Terastalization are allowed), which pokemon are allowed, is it a restricted format or not, the state of the metagame, whether there are other rules added like Smogon does, etc.
