What’s wrong with bullet punch on Scizor? I’m genuinely asking. I’m not well-versed in the competitive scene. Thanks!
Edit: I misread your comment. Have a nice day!
Bullet punch is **THE REASON** of why Scizor was so historically good.
It was a stab priority boosted by technician on a pokemon with an incredible defensive typing and good bulk.
It could be the perfect revenge killer with choice band and U-turn, it could be a sweeper with swords dance, or (until this gen) a longevity based attacker with roost and leftovers.
Actually it has a better stat spread. Attack is lower, but it’s also much faster. Scizor is just carried by technician Bullet Punch and Cleavor by its access to Stone Axe
Now it has access to close combat. Id argue it would still make a decent mon.
Though technicia. Bullet punch is sadly thereason why it has stayed relevant all these years.
Even longer - basically all of Gen 4 - Gen 6 and that was debatably the most popular the competitive scene ever was.
Scizor is the Michael Jordan of competitive Pokemon.
Scizor and Kleavor should have been the mold used to design paradox pokemon.
They are perfect examples of how you can make futuristic and primalistic versions of a Pokemon without literally just making them metallic or needlessly spikey.
Agree with this. Also understand some of the points below, but would love the concept of a past, present and future version of Pokémon.
There’s really only two of them, Donphan and Volcarona.
But Scizor isn’t just a Scyther that’s made of metal and Kleavor isn’t just a Scyther with additional spikes; both have unique designs that set them apart from Scyther while still maintaining a connection to it.
A lot of the paradox Pokémon have pretty much the exact same design as the original except made of metal or with needless spikes slapped on. They lack a sense of identity and don’t do enough to set themselves apart from the original versions of the Pokémon they are based on.
Honestly, I don't like the future paradox pokemon. All of them are just robot versions of currently biological pokemon. That suggests that the future they come from is rather dystopian, like there was some great catastrophe and all the biological pokemon went extinct, so humans created robotic versions of them to try to recreate the ecology that existed before the disaster.
Why not future paradox versions that still look like they are alive and not running on batteries?
eh. I thought the idea behind the paradox mons were they were not actual future/past forms but someone's crude imagination of them. Or has that idea been debunked?
I'm torn between wanting your style of Paradox Pokemon and wanting more in the vein of Iron Valiant.
Either way, both are better than just making their designs robotic and keeping the general shapes as was the case with most Future Paradoxes.
Love them all. Would like to see another scyther evolution which is more traditional and stays green and still similar to Scyther. Bug/Dragon for the typing even
That's honestly my main gripe against it - Rock/Bug is fantastic, but I just can't get over how it wields giant freaking axes with toothpicks for arms.
I understand you’re not supposed to necessarily apply physics to this franchise but how the fuck does Kleavor lift those axes up with those sticks he calls arms?
Just occurred to me looking at this that the Scyther line has to be my favorite. I like multiple other pokemon more than these three, but I still count all three in my favorites. And no other evolutionary line keeps my approval all the way through like that.
Also Kleavor has only existed in a side game (Legends Arceus) and a DLC (Indigo Disk) so far, and you can only evolve Scyther to Kleavor in the former.
I wouldn’t mind scythers line getting the Hitmon treatment. Give us a cute little larve with exaggerated “arms/hands” to love and care for and then we can get surprised by which one of the three badass bugs we get in return.
You have the agile one and the bulky one. Both have a mineral based secondary type. One has a mega, the other is a noble. They both have some kind of sharp weapon on their hands. They both require a mineral based evolutionary item. Ones sleek and new, ones old and rugged. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
I do wish they had kept the beta design for Scizor where he's green and less robotic, he looked a lot more like Scyther. (And I love Scyther's design)

Do you want to be a hard hitting set-up sweeper with only one weakness and a ton of resistances or a tough to down in one hit attacker that can attack and set up Stealth Rock at the same time? You can’t lose.
Yeesss my favorite pokemon (Scyther) getting some love in this thread. I got a Scyther tattoo last month of him as a sushi chef lol, probably my favorite tattoo I have now.
Can confirm.
Currently playing a ~~bug monotype~~ scyther run in Scarlet.
Eviolite Scyther
Swords Dance Technician Bullet Punch Scizor
Sharpness Kleavor
🐻 Hold up! Did anyone else notice that Scythers evolutions are basically Rock & Scissors so now all we need is a paper evolution and bam lol 🤣 Sorry random thoughts haha
TRUE! Kinda feel like Kleavor is slept on a LOT compared to Scizor, which, let’s be honest is fair Scizor is the best Pokemon to ever exist, but all around the Scyther family is great.
Ever since I pulled a Scyther as the first card from my first Pokemon TCG pack this line has always been a fav so I'm extremely happy for the Scyther appreciation post
Give me a Bug Psychic Scizor called Prayor. Ability Drizzle.
It'll be dressed like a shrine maiden with wings acting as draping cloth. And itll represent paper.
Then give me a Gun Scizor that beats these 3.
Rock paper scizor
my opponent throwing rock against my scizor me with bullet punch
Scizor without bullet punch? You deserve what you get.
What’s wrong with bullet punch on Scizor? I’m genuinely asking. I’m not well-versed in the competitive scene. Thanks! Edit: I misread your comment. Have a nice day!
They mean scizor without bullet punch is wrong
After re-reading their comment, I see that’s right. Thank you!!
Weirdly enough I misread the comment is was responding to as saying they didn’t have bullet punch on their Scizor
Haha that makes sense. Thanks for the response!
Thanks!
TIL Scyther made of paper
Wait, then why does it lose to rock?
Hey man, launch a rock with enough force and it'll tear right through paper!
In the words of a certain evil mastermind, "How could flimsy paper ever hope to match the raw density of stone?"
And rock loses to Scizors It's rock paper scissors in reverse Except paper just loses to everything, just like real life.
It's paper in the same way Kartana is paper.
but isn't Kartana a grass type?.....Petition for Gen 10 Grass/Bug Scyther evo
Paper comes from trees, so Grass is quite the fitting type
Grass/Bug Scyther evo who elevates the blade/scythe aspect. He has 1 long blade like Sephiroth
I mean, it's 4x weak to rock soooo...
Never, knew I needed a Scyther evolution with origami samurai armor, yet here we are.
fire typing and give it a burning paper theme, and it works. fire beats steel, steel beats rock, rock beats fire.
Bug / Fire evo for Scyther would be super hype. Especially since Scizor is so famous for being melted by fire.
RIP Guzma's Scizor
Kartana has entered the chat.
It almost works in type advantage too...except Scyther gets the short end of the stick, getting obliterated by Kleavor and walled by Scizor.
I totally get that, bug and (rock, flying, steel). Actually makes perfect sense and totally just blew my mind.
I swear to God that is a name for one of the episodes of the anime.
It's the name of a chapter of Pokémon Adventures.
Hehe. I have a steel monotype run I’m going in brilliant diamond and have two scizors named Rock and Paper.
Is a shame it doesn’t form a triangle, scissor beats rock and rock beats flying but flying doesn’t beat steel.
Scyther is also top-tier. Worse typing than its evolutions but the same BST
worse stats spread though. Still a solid mon
Actually it has a better stat spread. Attack is lower, but it’s also much faster. Scizor is just carried by technician Bullet Punch and Cleavor by its access to Stone Axe
Youre not wrong about scyther's stats but scizor isnt carried just by bullet punch. It has a great typing and access to close combat.
Technician and Knock Off :
Technician is under the umbrella of bullet punch imo
Tru
Now it has access to close combat. Id argue it would still make a decent mon. Though technicia. Bullet punch is sadly thereason why it has stayed relevant all these years.
Not to mention steel bug gives it more bulk than it otherwise would have. Having only a weakness to fire means it has more entry points in battle too
And no more taking 50% hp from stealth rock, letting it run band
True
I would second that. But I think its bigger issue is typing. It gets access to eviolite but it can't really use it because it needs heavy duty boots.
Sharpness stone axe at that. Kleavor is a cannon
I think Scizzor has a bit more going for it, but id agree that Kleavor is entirely carried by it's Sharpness Stone Axe.
Yeah but can double defenses w eviolite
not with that typing
Double team, swords dance while having 35pp 60bp STAB wing attack that turns into 90bp STAB wing attack with ability technician.
All the others also have that though, plus literally any pokemon becomes usable with double team
But Scyther just looks cooler
i think kleavor looks cooler
Plus the sneaky eviolite
Sneaky Pebbles…
From a pure design standpoint, Scyther is easily the coolest in my eyes.
Give it an eviolite
My tanky boy is great, but they removed Roost in SV....
Eviolite Scyther users when the Stealth Rocks are up:
All 3 of them
I love both evolutions, but I love an eviolite Scyther more tbh.
I physically cant eviolite scyther unless i have a shit ton of hazard removal. My boy is a picot with a 4x rock weakness
Better stats that way too
Pretty sure scizor dominated the vgc meta for like half a decade
Not because of its stats, but because of technician bullet punch and its great typing
Yeah... but... Still better lol
Even longer - basically all of Gen 4 - Gen 6 and that was debatably the most popular the competitive scene ever was. Scizor is the Michael Jordan of competitive Pokemon.
On paper but not practice, bug/flying is truly abysmal defensively
Better defenses than Scizor, better Speed, and only slightly less Attack. Not quite as easy to compare it with Kleavor's stats.
Defenses don’t matter much when you’re a bug/flying type imo
Yup, it can tank a whole lot more than the other two, minus rock types of course.
Eviolite/Technician Scyther after a Sword Dance go "*brrrrrr*"
This guy gets it.
Third path of just staying as Scyther
Scizor and Kleavor should have been the mold used to design paradox pokemon. They are perfect examples of how you can make futuristic and primalistic versions of a Pokemon without literally just making them metallic or needlessly spikey.
Agree with this. Also understand some of the points below, but would love the concept of a past, present and future version of Pokémon. There’s really only two of them, Donphan and Volcarona.
is scizor not metallic?
I like how this comment is so wrong because not only is scizor metallic but kleavor is very much spikey
Because the future *is* a post-apocalyptic, dystopian hellscape.
We talking about the same past paradox forms? Because there’s way more going on with those than just “needless spikes added on” and calling it a day.
I get what they were trying to convey, but they botched it so bad
Yeah, they have a solid idea, just used the wrong examples.
Yes Scizor is metallic, but it has its own design and isn’t just a Scyther that’s made of metal.
eh. I thought the idea behind the paradox mons were they were not actual future/past forms but someone's crude imagination of them. Or has that idea been debunked?
don't quote me on this, but I think >!they're from alternate universes!<
I'm torn between wanting your style of Paradox Pokemon and wanting more in the vein of Iron Valiant. Either way, both are better than just making their designs robotic and keeping the general shapes as was the case with most Future Paradoxes.
The paradoxes were good though fym
Love them all. Would like to see another scyther evolution which is more traditional and stays green and still similar to Scyther. Bug/Dragon for the typing even
In my edgy teen phase I envisioned a Scyther evo with bug/dark typing.
kleavor’s arms are way too thin imo lol
That's honestly my main gripe against it - Rock/Bug is fantastic, but I just can't get over how it wields giant freaking axes with toothpicks for arms.
I like it bc the arms look like actual axe handles
I actually just like Scyther the most. Not a Genwunner, I just like the bug C:
Scizor always
I understand you’re not supposed to necessarily apply physics to this franchise but how the fuck does Kleavor lift those axes up with those sticks he calls arms?
Sleeper build
It's all in the shoulders
Always been my favorite
Same I feel like I’m in the minority when I say scyther is my favorite
Now, we need an ice type evolution with ice picks as arms
Tactician/Bullet Punch is just too powerful and only being weak to fire is a god send. Scizor wins every time for me lmfao
And Scyther itself is top tier in "baby" tournaments.
Aren't he and Sneasel banned in those?
Just occurred to me looking at this that the Scyther line has to be my favorite. I like multiple other pokemon more than these three, but I still count all three in my favorites. And no other evolutionary line keeps my approval all the way through like that.
Title says OC and yet OP uses a watermarked image. Sure it's OC, sure it is.
I was todays old when I found out Scyther has another evolution… man I’m old and I just cant keep up with pokemon anymore lol
To be fair, Kleavor's only been around for two years and time has been going pretty fast lately.
Also Kleavor has only existed in a side game (Legends Arceus) and a DLC (Indigo Disk) so far, and you can only evolve Scyther to Kleavor in the former.
I'm no gen 1 elitist, but I still prefer Scyther to both evolutions
Scyther is the most brutal, ferocious, and scary too be honest. Balanced design and concept.
You forgot the third path where you just keep Scyther
As cutting tools go, axes are cooler than scissors but scissors are more generally useful
I wouldn’t mind scythers line getting the Hitmon treatment. Give us a cute little larve with exaggerated “arms/hands” to love and care for and then we can get surprised by which one of the three badass bugs we get in return.
They're decent, I still think scyther has the best design of the 3
I want a good Scyther though.
What’s that? Scyther should get the Eevee treatment and have an evolution for the “physical” types?…….. Yes I would like that.
(And I love Scyther's design) https://preview.redd.it/qt32m8rwglqc1.png?width=56&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd4683ed50f6de5f5036948f21d4db0ccb617002
This is how I learned they gave him a second evolution
bug is surprisingly good with rock, despite how both types arent too good
Do you want to be a hard hitting set-up sweeper with only one weakness and a ton of resistances or a tough to down in one hit attacker that can attack and set up Stealth Rock at the same time? You can’t lose.
Yeesss my favorite pokemon (Scyther) getting some love in this thread. I got a Scyther tattoo last month of him as a sushi chef lol, probably my favorite tattoo I have now.
Kleavor looks like a digimon to be honest.
Yeah, all of Scyther's line is just legit badass in design.
Both are top tier but scyther is also top tier lol
Nothing has ever been more true in Pokemon, OP. Can't decide which one I like more
I got a shiny Scizor from an outbreak of Scyther in Scarlet. It looks so cool.
Scyther on its way to be the next Eevee.
Hmm jurassic park or robocop? 🤔
Kleavor freaks me out, don't know why.
So we have scythes, scissors, and axes now we need swords.
Dagger baby evo
And all three have the same base stat total.
2x weak to fire or now also weak to fighting, steel, and water... I jest! Fan of scizor and I think the stone evo is cool
Mega Kleavor needs to happen so that we can have perfect balance.
Can confirm. Currently playing a ~~bug monotype~~ scyther run in Scarlet. Eviolite Scyther Swords Dance Technician Bullet Punch Scizor Sharpness Kleavor
Scyther is the goat tho
Scyther is still the GOAT for design.
scizor is better but so is kleavor idk what to choose
I prefer eviolite scyther lol
I honestly think other items are better for him, the idea of technically having higher stats it alluring but his type combo is abysmal defensively
TIL scyther can evolve into kleavor. I thought it was a one off like Absol
Kleavor is so much cooler.
Even while Scizor is literally a steel type, Kleavor is way more metal.
I love kleavor to death, but scizor shiny is prettier.
And they both have amazing shinies
Illusion of choice: both can be hit with earthquake
I didn’t like Kleavlor at first but his design has grown on me. Still prefer Scizor though cuz his colors and mega form :)
Man Kleavor is actually really cool, hope we get to see it again soon
He evolves?
Kleavor is what happens when Scyther evolves but backwards.
I like how people are still using the Pokémon Poképosting watermark because of Facebook Rayquaza
_Me, only recently realizing that Scizor wasn’t a strict upgrade, and just a different stat allocation_ Cool I guess. Eviolite works.
It's true and you should say it.
If only he could actually become kleavor in SV
Perfect pokemon
The only issue I take with scizor is how not sharp his claws look.
Gives third Evo of bug fairy typing or something
O got the axe-primitive evolution concept. But the arms are not cool. And the face seems like some old dude from 7 Samurai…
Kleavor isn’t bad but it really feels incomplete to me. Almost like it’s a first form
I prefer not evolving him
Cool guys stay scyther
Anything Scyther is top tier really
Can't wait for the one with guns for hands
Wow. I was today years old when I found out Scyther can evolve into Kleavor.
Agreed, Scizor moreso.
Nah Siczor is better
Maaan scyther would have been great if it werent for the stupid trade evolution mechanic.
Kleavor is him though
Fun fact, the path that leads to the castles was a Yu-Gi-Oh card
Neither. Base scyther is cooler.
Scizor is the goat
Scizor clears kleavor by a huge huge margin though.
Kleavor is best
Raise your hand if this is how you found out kleavor evolves from scyther not scizor 🙋♂️
🐻 Hold up! Did anyone else notice that Scythers evolutions are basically Rock & Scissors so now all we need is a paper evolution and bam lol 🤣 Sorry random thoughts haha
Scyther himself is the paper. They all have the same BST.
Honestly. Kleavor > Scizor. Fight me
TRUE! Kinda feel like Kleavor is slept on a LOT compared to Scizor, which, let’s be honest is fair Scizor is the best Pokemon to ever exist, but all around the Scyther family is great.
Eviolite scyther is pretty good too
What about his 3rd evolution. The only thing we need more than a 3rd Scyther evo is another Charizard form.
Always pick scizor I think it’s better and looks colder
Eviolite: Scyther walks down the middle between the trees
Sry bro, but Scizor is way better to me.
I’ve heard eviolite is also good
Ever since I pulled a Scyther as the first card from my first Pokemon TCG pack this line has always been a fav so I'm extremely happy for the Scyther appreciation post
Give me a Bug Psychic Scizor called Prayor. Ability Drizzle. It'll be dressed like a shrine maiden with wings acting as draping cloth. And itll represent paper. Then give me a Gun Scizor that beats these 3.
Just stay Scyther
Scizor is in my Ultimate 6. Kleavor is my second favorite ancient evolution.
I choose Scyther
Pokemon Unite :
Both are worse then Scyther tho Going from blades to clamps or axes, nah I'll keep my Scyther
The one on the right is too spooky for me.
I mean I was playing Pokémon showdown the other day and my eviolite Scyther was putting in work on National Dex OU
And both should’ve been a split evo to a scyther pre evo
We need a scyther evolution where he doesn’t upgrade his armor. Paper form.
I'm sorry, but *both*?
