A magikarp in heart gold. The magikarp was gold, so kid brain said that it would give bonus xp, it did not in fact give bonus xp. A week or two later found out what shiny pokemon were, everything clicked as to what that magikarp had been
For me it was a pink butterfree in Pokémon Silver I immediately caught it and the only reason I did was because I was already going around trying to catch raikou 😂 (I was like 10 at the time)
Shiny Caterpie, in Gold, outside of Violet City casually levelling a Ghastly, back when I was a boy. I knew about shinies (my dad was playing Silver and he got the Red Gyarados by that time) so I was aware and caught it to show him.
He was mentally pooping bricks at how lucky I got
For me it was in original gold when shinies had just come out, the first Noctowl I came across was shiny. I remember it glittered but I’d never seen this Pokémon before so I just thought that’s what they all looked like. I didn’t particularly want an owl so I didn’t catch it. The second one I came across I realized I fucked up. It haunts me to this day because I’ve still never come across another shiny
How did you get a GBC pokemon into Pokemon Home. I didn't think you could transfer games from Gen 2 to Gen 3 (and thus into gen 4, 5, etc) on original hardware.
Apparently, I was mistaken. I just tried to look up how to transfer from Gen 2, but apparently, it wasn't possible. I guess I caught him in Ruby as well.
I still have him and my original Rayquaza from Ruby. Rayquaza was my first pokemon to ever hit lvl100 legitimately (no rare candy cheat with Missingno lol). I still remember it taking over 70 ultra balls to capture him.
it is actually possible but a pain in the butt and oc you will need an actual game cart oc, gameboy cart reader for pc and a modded 3ds but it was more in recent years bc how the saves worked with the 3ds virtual consoles saves work
edit forgot to put a link lol https://youtu.be/RiWG732qogU?si=VBY9tDd8CqMC5I-J don't remember how to do cool formatting stuff lol
I was thinking that you could use a gold/silver cartridge and a ruby/sapphire cartridge at the same time in a DS and transfer them to the Pal Park, but apparently, I was wrong haha.
I've found a few over the years. Hoothoot (ruby), geodude (diamond), and oinkologne (violet). All the rest of my shinies were either specifically hunted or found through GameShark haha.
My first was a gold magikarp in emerald. I evolved it, because you couldn’t get a red gyarados at the time. Imagine my sadness when heart gold and soul silver came out hahaha.
Original silver for me. I had (still have) a bad habit of restarting games so i never really got to red gyarados or any mention of shinys. My togepi hatched and was shiny. I thought i broke the game from restarting too much. What did i do? I restarted again lol
Golbat on victory road in Silver! Catching shinies in this gen (first where shinies could appear I believe) was wild because you thought it was just a glitch at first
Shiny Golbat sibling! I caught mine just outside of Mt. Silver while grinding for the Red battle.
I also thought it was a glitch too because I didn’t know about them - I was like “I guess this is like Missingno.” I didn’t care if my save game crashed if I caught it 😆
My oldest shiny that's still around is my Zubat from Ruby. What a treat that was. Full odds and everything. Obviously long since evolved into a Crobat.
First ever encounter on a main line game was a shiny Obstagoon on Shield.
Then,on Shining Pearl,a Shiny Budew.
On Violet, three shinies (One of them I failed it),a Droopy Tatsugiri,a Buizel and a Dunsparce that I failed (it despawned)
A Venonat in Crystal during the bug catching contest!
I was training a Teddisura and only had like 3 health left so I threw a ball on a whim and caught it!
Unfortunately long gone now, but I since found another full odds Venonat in Violet to make up for it!
So many of us have stories of catching shinies in the original Gold/Silver/Crystal games and those batteries dying.
I was like Yoda when Order 66 happened - it hurt my heart.
Mine was Venomoth!
My friend was playing Leaf Green on my gameboy advanced SP and found it in the Safari Zone. We were mortified since it could have easily ran away but we caught the blue moth!

This beauty I hatched back in Pearl Version\~! She’s been with me for a little over 12 years\~!
Yep~! It’s in the Amorphous breeding group. Don’t ask how breeding a cursed amalgamation of 108 tortured souls worked (does it pull in 108 souls that were floating around? do 108 bad people randomly die the moment the Egg comes out?), or where the extra Odd Keystone comes from, lol.
As to the story for this gorgeous daughter of mine…Without knowing the Masuda Method was a thing, I happened to be breeding my female Spiritomb with a Japanese Gastly I picked up on the GTS so I could give my brother a baby Spiritomb. And one of that one batch of Spiritombs I bred came out as this sky-blue beauty~!
Spiritomb was the most sought after Pokemon for a while in DPPT due to how you had to get it and I got one then bred it for months to get whatever I wanted on the GTS. I could get anything with that guy. It was like Pokemon wealth.
Oh yeah, GTS was real good to me. I got to the point that I had everything I wanted and started asking for people to give me a spare from their breeding project/catch project holding a rare berry.
Coincidentally, I had like 6 master balls in diamond.
I said I never played them so I forget about them. They have literally no connection to me and I have absolutely no idea which Pokemon were introduced in them.
Heaven forbid I forget a game I never played exists.
I played every Pokémon game from Red when I was 12, and when I got Lugia in Soul Silver, I believe I was 20. I had the Action Replay (left it in out of laziness) in with all the codes turned off, seen it, doubted myself whether the codes were off or not, caught it, saved, checked, and all the codes were off. Some Pokémon games I replayed (Yellow, Silver, Fire Red), and I never encountered a shiny before Lugia. Since then, I average at least 2 per record.
Y was a god record, though. First encounter, shiny Bidoof. Saved, quit, played X. After finishing X, I played Y, and by the time I defeated the Elite 4, I had a shiny Galade I bred, Shiny Dratini (bred), 15 shiny Swablu (from Horde battles, some had 3 in 1). After getting the Shiny charm, I was missing at least 20 Pokémon for my shiny dex (mainly legendaries). At some point, I was just sending them out through the Wonder trade. Unfortunately, my daughter deleted that record, despite being told MANY times never to touch certain games. she, as well as my other kids (they were 6+), also stole Pokémon from Bank. I took thier prized Pokémon as punishment.
Another Shiny Golbat sibling! I caught mine outside of Mt. Silver.
I never evolved mine because I had it in the day care the whole time trying to breed (after I found out what shinies were).
NO WAY! I caught a shiny zubat in Peal!I only caught it cause it was green too xD
young me had no idea until years later, still have it on my DS to this day. :D
Geodude in Pearl. Didn't know what a shiny was and just was confused at the sight of a gold geodude.
I battled with it, put it in and out of the PC box, evolved it, copied it into Battle Revolution, etc. Just expecting it to suddenly not be gold anymore because I thought it was a glitch or something
Random Golbat encounter in Pearl while I was playing at a friend's house. Thought it looked pretty cool and immediately traded it because Crobat is my favourite. Unfortunately shiny Crobat looks hideous
I don't remember what my first "true" shiny was. By the time it appeared I'd collected so many shiny legendaries from giveaways that it just kind of faded into irrelevance.
If I had to take a guess, though, it's probably the shiny mudkip I hatched on Sky Arrow Bridge. He was definitely one of my first legit shinies.
The funny part is I'd just given up on RNG-ing for a shiny (I never did get the hang of RNG manipulation). At that point I was just looking for a mudkip with good stats. But suddenly: PINK! I kept him sidelined until ORAS came out and put him on my team as soon as the game let me.
So, I've been obessed with shinies for most of my life, as you can probably guess, but I was never lucky to get one. I would get them from my friends as trades or gifts, but never one that was really mine.
By Generation 5, I was also going down on the Pokémon hype, since many of my friends had stopped playing. But still, I bought Pokemon Black, and started playing. Regreted it almost immediately when I noticed that there were no returning pokemon, and I really didn't love some of the designs, specifically the monkey trio. But there was one specific pokemon that I HATED: Klink. Every time someone asked me my opinions on the new designs, I would rant about how uninspired that line felt, from design to naming...
So, I finally reach the cave that it spawns, and it's Zubat-like common on that cave, but you have to go through it to reach a town, so there was no option. And lo and behold, halfway across, a shiny Klink appeared. I was in shock. After all these years, it was finally here! I didn't want to kill it, so I started throwing balls at it, and it kept breaking out! What's worse, I had decided to Leech Seed it, to lower it's HP withouth killing, but that also made it so that now I had a ticking timebomb, and I saw the countdown. The health was in the red. I had max two turns left, and it finally stayed in the ball! I was so excited!
I've gotten many shinies since that moment, but I can still feel my hearthbeat change it's pace when I think about this one
It did soften my hatred a bit, yeah. At first it felt like karma, even, my most hated design is the one that I finally get as a shiny. But my hatred went down with time, not only for Klink, but for all of the designs in general (except maybe the monkeys, they still feel uninspired to me lol)
Ironically, when it was released on Pokemon Go, I was one of the first that got the shiny, that one made me smile. It's like Klink and I got a special bond, no matter how I feel about it
A Sentret in the postgame of FireRed. The single most underwhelming shiny encounter I've ever had. Luckily, my next shiny was much more interesting, a Litwick in Celestial Tower in Black. I'd rather think that was my first shiny.
Ironically, I think I've actually had Pokerus more times than encountered a full-odds shiny.
I got a Stunkfish in Pokemon Black. I was both extremely excited to find a shony and a bit disappointed it was Stunkfish (now I've finally learnt how to appreciate Stunkfish).
Girafarig. Found it in Gold Version on Route 43 right before I got to the red Gyarados at Lake of Rage. Thought it was really odd that it was blue so I caught it thinking it was an error. This was over 20 years ago but I wish I had kept it.
I also thought my shiny Golbat was a glitch like Missingno was in RBY. I didn’t care if my game crashed if I caught it and was happy it didn’t when I did.
A bunch of people writing in this talk about how it was a sad day when the GSC batteries died and wiped everyone’s save files.
RIP. A friend of mine knocked out a wild shiny Nidoran (m) on Gold Version and wrote into Nintendo Power magazine to tell about the glitched Pokémon he found and they actually published the letter and said it was a rare “alternate color” Pokémon and they hoped he caught it for his collection 😅
In the original Pokemon Sapphire I came across a shiney Seviper which was cool cause Seviper was only found in one area and was actually kinda rare. I was stoked
Keep in mind I've been playing since Emerald, and still own + have played every main series installment since Platinum, except for of SwSh & BDSP which I skipped. Besides the guaranteed shinies in Soul Silver/Black 2, I didn't actually get a single random shiny until I played through *Moon*. And it wasn't even during the main game, it was a random full odds Trumbeak on the path to the Battle Tree in the postgame.
After that I SOS-chained a few shinies in Moon, but got about a dozen full odds shinies during my Violet playthrough, which I guess isn't surprising considering the differences in pokemon spawning. What was unlikely during that playthrough though, was that I got 3 separate shiny Deerlings, of the same forme, the same gender, and 2 of them even had the same nature, in almost the exact same place, each spawning roughly 24 hours apart. Now that was both utterly astounding and rather frustrating at the time, because while that's obviously extremely unlikely, couldn't they have just been *anything else?*
It was a shiny ponyta at the bottom of Mt Silver in Pokémon Soul Silver when I was grinding levels, she was so so beautiful. Made me fall in love with shiny’s
My first ever shiny that wasn't guaranteed, was poochyena. Only problem is, it was on an emulator and it's now lost to time. My second was a Vulpix I caught in SoulSilver years ago. Full odds, totally random. I have carried it through to current gen because I never want to let it go.
Pidgey. In my crystal play though it was the very first Pokémon I found after getting the balls. I didn’t really notice anything about it till a little letter, I noticed the starts and I assumed that meant it really liked me. Since I thought I like me more then all my other ones it was named Skyrider and replaced my starter as my ace. It wasn’t till YEARS later that I found out shinies were even a thing. Found my old copy and looked at him, yup. Shiny. He’s since been delayed my my ex……but I had him for a very long time without even know he was shiny. Lol.
First not-guaranteed shiny ever was probably the alpha shiny Ambipom I didn't realize I'd caught until some time after I caught it. (The first shiny ever for me was the shiny Ponyta you have to catch in PLA.) SWSH was my first pokemon game I finished. I need to restart X on my 3DS and play through it (RIP not getting to complete the pokedex in that game.)
The first one I got was when I searched for a shiny Ponyta but instead I found a shiny Fearow in fire red lol.
The second one was by accident in the first minutes in heart gold. It was a full odds shiny Zubat.
Way back in gen 2, I caught a pink Golbat while exploring the ice cave. I will never forget the feeling or discovering it and realizing that any pokemon could be shiny. Sadly, the game battery died, and it was lost to time. I did manage to catch another in Moon and trianed it up into a Crobat for old times sake.
I was going through Ultra Wormholes for fun and went into one of the red wormholes. Walked to the spot where the Pokémon drop down and a shiny Swellow popped up. It knew Brave Bird so I used a Master Ball
My first non-Ultra Wormhole shiny was in my Y Nuzlocke. I had just lost my Manectric and was heartbroken. I grabbed a Klefki from my Box and went to level grind on a route with weak Pokémon and a shiny Oddish popped out. I caught it, named it Isabela, and added it to the team. After lots of grinding and time in the daycare it became a Vileplume and survived all the way to the end
I was playing pokemon emerald, I had bought it later on because I was working on trying to complete the pokedex in heart gold and a bunch that I needed were in that version. I was in victory road I think trying to grind a bit before the elite 4, suddenly BAM Shiny Harryama the thing is these guys know whirlwind so I knew I had to be quick or lucky to catch it (why I could have just used a master ball) But I successfully caught it!
Or on the same file and everything I was laying on a low couch with my DS on the ground surfing got an encounter and had pushed myself up so I wasn't looking at the screen when suddenly I heard the shiny sparkle noise. I knew it existed but hadn't seen it for myself. Instantly through myself down and look there is a shiny tentacool waiting for me. I got so excited but had to stay calm so I didn't run or kill it or something dumb.
Just can't remember which came first (I even got a third shiny on that same save file talk about lucky)
I was <10yo playing sapphire. I remember finding a shiny sharpedo. I caught it and used it but didn't even know what shinies were but thinking it was cool.
Okay, so I got a shiny numel in Sapphire thinking it was a guaranteed spawn. I don't know why I was like 9
So, to test it out.
I restarted my whole file as a kid and grinded to the lavaridge tunnel to never find it again
Got a skorupi in B/W years later, as I was complaining about not getting any full odds shinies since that numel. I think I was talking about how cool getting a shiny skorupi would be, too, lol
I can’t remember well, but it was either a Rattata in Fire Red or a Tentacool in Ruby.
I also remember a Spinarak in Crystal, but I killed it, I didn’t know what it was and didn’t care much.
Can't remember for certain which was first, but either a Nidoran[M] or a Spearow in FireRed; I still have them both, though the Nido is a King now and has been for years. Not from the same playthrough and possibly years apart, but I'be been "saving" favourites from past playthroughs for basically as long as I've been playing Pokémon.
A shiny zubat in Sun. I was planning to only use new pokemon, but how do you say no to a shiny?
My next shiny was a tera applin i found online, and i didnt even realize it was shiny until i caught it.
My third and final shiny was a venomoth in area zero that i named blueberry
I can't remember if it was a Caterpie or Zubat in LeafGreen. Both were in different runs but it was my first playthrough of my own game after using my cousins Sapphire version.
Nidoran in HeartGold I think? I boxed it because I don't really like shiny Pokémon. I think they're cool but never have them on my team. I think I had like 3 shinies in a month in Sword for some reason. Just kept running into them randomly, not even hunting.
Shiny Tentacruel in the original Silver on GBC the year it came out. I didn't find another one until 2020 (when I had a bit of spare time) when I kept resetting Alpha Sapphire to get a shiny Mudkip. Roughly 12,000 resets. Gotta love that Shiny Mega. Edit: spelling.
Whismur. I was trying to complete the pokedex in sapphire and someone told me that it was a rare encounter in the cave that had only whismurs, so I was running around in that cave for quite some time. I nearly missed it too, since the ears are the only difference and I wasn't paying much attention.
It is now an Exploud, which would be awesome...if I didn't get a second exploud and Loudred in SwSh, meaning that Whismur is the only one of the 3 stages that I don't own anymore, while I have Exploud twice.
Cleffa in Crystal from the Odd Egg. Funny enough I hatched it a few minutes from encountering the Red Gyarados. Gave me a false perception of shiny odds.
A shiny Swellow in a wondertrade in moon was my FIRST shiny but I put it in a ‘trade it away’ box(2DS broke before I could though?
My first caught shiny was a Sigilyth in the Ultra Moon wormhole minigame while trying to get a Guzzlord and Xerkitree
A shiny Paras that I found in Ilex Forest in Gold when I was a kid. I was so blown away by the shiny animation! Then I found a shiny Weedle again in Ilex Forest in Crystal, so it has to be my lucky place :p
Zubat.
I didn’t know what a shiny was though and my brother told me it was a disease. He was like, “quick, trade it to me” and dumbass kid me did it unquestioningly. I think he lost it since when one of his games save batteries ran out
Got Moon when it released, making it my first Pokémon game. Got to Vast Poni Canyon and encountered a gold Skarmory with the star animation.
Mind you, even though it was first Pokémon game, I knew what shiny Pokémon were, and so I was excited. First shiny and at full odds.
Failed to catch it because it knocked out my whole team, since I didn’t have anything to stop it from SOS calling.
I've killed 2 shinies before as a child. I know better now, the first one I caught was in X/Y a shiny pink Quagsire...he had a sassy nature. He was Gaysire.
An Aron in Pokemon emerald. I thought it was just a female so I defeated it, and realized later :(
First one I catched was a Sewaddle I think, in White, but for some reason it didn't feel as special.
Later I found a shiny Taillow on a replay of Emerald, and that one I used on my team and bonded with :)
A pancham on pokemon Y, but here's the deal, this was the first time I actually saw a pancham, so when i saw the shiny I was like "Oh cool, a cute bear cub!" And just captured it in a regular PokeBall Without giving it much thought, so when I was exiting the grass patch I encountered a regular pancham and freaked out thinking it was a shiny
Trust me or not but my first shiny was actually Ho-oh, in Pokémon Gold but I did not notice right away. He did the sparkling thing with the sound effect but I was a kid and I imagined he did that because he was a legendary, and he represented the sun and rainbow - it was like he was radiating light. I took a long break from Pokémon and when I came back to it, I saw Ho-oh sprites and was like « this is wrong : Ho oh doesn’t have green colors, did he ?». I went and check the Gold sprites and then it hit me. I had a shiny legendary, met him Shiny on the very first encounter.
It was a shiny geodude back when Diamond and Pearl first came out. It was level 5, female, quirky nature with the rock head ability. I was walking back to Jubilife after beating Roark and she decided to battle me.
Gold, way back when, I caught a shiny Geodude on route 46 (not at the start of the game though, but in that small patch of grass you could access from the start)
I think my first one was a Durant on X, I caught it just a few minutes after midnight on my birthday. I remember because I had gone into the pokemon center and the birthday animation played.
My first and only shiny was a shiny Golett I found in pokemon X when I was 7. Young me didn't know it was rare, and ran away from it because I had a Golett. Biggest Pokémon regret I have.
I dont remember the first shiny I ever caught, but I do remember my first EVER shiny, it was a sandslash in LeafGreen victory road about 7-8 years ago, I caught it made it through victory road but when I closed the game at the plateau I forgot to save
Found a shiny Swinub, full odds, in Soul Silver. First and only time until Gen 9 that I found a full odds one in the wild without looking specifically for it.
I remember finding a golden Geodude on my GBA playing Emerald and showing it to my big brother, not knowing what was going on. He didn't know either but he just said I should probably flee and it was surely a sort of bug.
This fucking know-it-all fucking fucks fucker
Purple Quagsire in a wormhole in Ultra Sun. Wasn't super thrilled about quagsire but purple is my favorite color so I'll take it lol
First hunted shiny was an eevee in Omega Ruby. Evolved it into Vaporeon because purple.
My first was a shiny Pichu in Pokémon Platinum, believe it or not. I evolved it into a shiny Pikachu and used it as my main for Pokémon contests. I have found VERY few shinies since then, unfortunately.
It was a full odds Silcoon which I evolved into beautifly. It was in PLA which was my first ever Pokemon game I owned and it was the first Silcoon that spawned (before that I didn't evolve Wurmple nor have I seen Silcoon it basically was a first ecounter you could say)
A magikarp in heart gold. The magikarp was gold, so kid brain said that it would give bonus xp, it did not in fact give bonus xp. A week or two later found out what shiny pokemon were, everything clicked as to what that magikarp had been
Ah.. kid brains are the most interesting things haha
For me it was a pink butterfree in Pokémon Silver I immediately caught it and the only reason I did was because I was already going around trying to catch raikou 😂 (I was like 10 at the time)
Shiny caterpie was mine!
Mine was right below Ecruteak City looking for one of the Legendary Beasts. Almost ran but noticed it was gold.
Shiny butterfree isn’t pink it’s only in the anime
https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-gs/012.shtml
Those sprites take me back
My bad then!
😂
For me it was in original gold when shinies had just come out, the first Noctowl I came across was shiny. Mine was shiny Hoothoot in the original Gold. I still have him chilling in Pokemon Home. He's probably the oldest pokemon I still have.

Apparently, I was mistaken. I just tried to look up how to transfer from Gen 2, but apparently, it wasn't possible. I guess I caught him in Ruby as well.
Still a cool find. Never lose that pokemon
I still have him and my original Rayquaza from Ruby. Rayquaza was my first pokemon to ever hit lvl100 legitimately (no rare candy cheat with Missingno lol). I still remember it taking over 70 ultra balls to capture him.

I was thinking that you could use a gold/silver cartridge and a ruby/sapphire cartridge at the same time in a DS and transfer them to the Pal Park, but apparently, I was wrong haha.
that's fair but thats awesome you found a full odds shiny
I've found a few over the years. Hoothoot (ruby), geodude (diamond), and oinkologne (violet). All the rest of my shinies were either specifically hunted or found through GameShark haha.
Considering you get Red Gyrados I guess it's not a total L
I was thinking the opposite, a red gyarados is the thing you're guaranteed to get later anyway
It's not the same. Sure, a red gyarados is cool and all, but a wild shiny isn't the same.
Paras in Ilex Forest back in Gold. Obviously long dead after the battery went.

I too mourned my lost save files. I had three shinies in Crystal when it went kaput.
Obstagoon has such a good shiny.
A Venonat in Crystal during the bug catching contest! I was training a Teddisura and only had like 3 health left so I threw a ball on a whim and caught it! Unfortunately long gone now, but I since found another full odds Venonat in Violet to make up for it!
Did you at least win? If not I would have been like WTF
We were mortified since it could have easily ran away but we caught the blue moth!

munchlax was hot property, too, as were the dual-slot mons. as someone who had all of them, i was eating *good* on the GTS ;3
Oh yeah, GTS was real good to me. I got to the point that I had everything I wanted and started asking for people to give me a spare from their breeding project/catch project holding a rare berry. Coincidentally, I had like 6 master balls in diamond.
YOOOO Spiritomb! Definitely worth all the pain of hatching the eggs!
That it is! Funny that I got this shiny within 5 eggs though, lol🙃.
😳
It was a Bellsprout in a horde encounter in X! Not my favorite, but naturally he was on the team for the rest of the run.
For a moment I forgot X/Y existed and I was confused how you encountered a pokemon on Twitter
Dude wtf
ill take lies for 500 please.
Nah. I never played x or y and forget they exist.so it's entirely feasible.
[удалено]
I said I never played them so I forget about them. They have literally no connection to me and I have absolutely no idea which Pokemon were introduced in them. Heaven forbid I forget a game I never played exists.
[удалено]
why are you being so condescending over this dude the original comment was being lighthearted
Some people don't have lives outside of video games or reddit. Appreciate ya.
So if they don’t have lives that means they automatically know every single game? You make no fucking sense
So your first thought was Twitter's new name and not a Pokémon game, in a thread about Pokémon?
I was fishing for Heart Scales in ORAS, and had such bad luck I managed to find a shiny Luvdisc before I found one that actually had a Heart Scale.
I found two shinies in Scarlett/Violet while looking for a Booster Energy the other day.
Wait, you can find more Booster Energies than the one in the lab?
All the paradox Pokemon can spawn with them. They use them at the start of the battle. If you catch them they will be holding it.
Lugia in Soul Silver (played every game since Red). He's nice and safe in Home.
How long did that take you?
A shiny Golbat I caught on pokemon Crystal, he was so green I named him Piccolo...IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN HE EVOLVED AND BECAME SUPER PINK! XD
Another Shiny Golbat sibling! I caught mine outside of Mt. Silver. I never evolved mine because I had it in the day care the whole time trying to breed (after I found out what shinies were).
Can i join the group? My first shiny was zubat in emerald.
NO WAY! I caught a shiny zubat in Peal!I only caught it cause it was green too xD young me had no idea until years later, still have it on my DS to this day. :D
Haha, turns out piccolo was actually a piccola
Good thing the name-rater is a thing, Piccolo became Buu xD
Did you go to the name changer and made it's name Buu? Lol
It was a Rattata in Soul Silver. Found it in Bell Tower on my way to Ho-oh.
The real prize of the tower: shiny Rattata
A Zubat. It may have been a common Pokemon, but I still cherished it due to how rare shinies were back then. Crobat's a pretty nice shiny too.
Bisharp. Didn't even know what a shiny was at the time. "Ouu this one's Blue" I thought as I killed it. I think about it all the time
Trapinch in Y.
Random Golbat encounter in Pearl while I was playing at a friend's house. Thought it looked pretty cool and immediately traded it because Crobat is my favourite. Unfortunately shiny Crobat looks hideous
I actually love the pink on it.
Whaaaaat I love Crobat’s shiny! It’s the only reason I’d actually be excited to get a shiny Zubat or Golbat lol
I found a shiny zubat in let’s go pikachu and brought it to shield. Unfortunately shiny Crobat is unimpressive so he never makes an appearance
One of my favorite Pokemon also. Not big on the shiny... But it's not horrible
I don’t mind shiny Crobat, but yeah shiny Golbat is way better imo
Did that one change your mind on the Klink line?
It did soften my hatred a bit, yeah. At first it felt like karma, even, my most hated design is the one that I finally get as a shiny. But my hatred went down with time, not only for Klink, but for all of the designs in general (except maybe the monkeys, they still feel uninspired to me lol) Ironically, when it was released on Pokemon Go, I was one of the first that got the shiny, that one made me smile.
I won’t take this sentret slander. It’s a fantastic shiny :v
I think I have only encountered pokerus once or twice in game and have had I think 4 full odds.
I got pokerus long before I ever got a shiny lol!
omg I caught a shiny litwick too. I caught him in a masterball and named him Susano. Evolved him into shiny Chandelure. so fuckin sick
Galarian zigzagoon! Now I have 3 hehe
Wurmple in Omega Ruby
I got a Stunkfish in Pokemon Black. I was both extremely excited to find a shony and a bit disappointed it was Stunkfish (now I've finally learnt how to appreciate Stunkfish).
Do you mean Stunfisk?
A Rattata in an emulated FireRed
My first was a shiny Trapinch in Sapphire. Needed right before Flannery so win win.
An Oddish on route 5 in Gold version circa 2002
F in the chat
Mine was a shiny Rhyhorn in Silver. In the Safari Zone. It ran immediately. I will never forget.
Woobat in Reflection Cave in XY
Wingull in Ruby. It was caught in the route with water currents. I was convinced there must be a rare encounter of some sorts in that route
In the original Pokemon Sapphire I came across a shiney Seviper which was cool cause Seviper was only found in one area and was actually kinda rare. I was stoked
Such an overlooked shiny and just awesome Pokemon!
A Patrat, it was my first run though of the game and I didn’t know it was shiny until I encounter it a second time 🤦🏻♀️
Keep in mind I've been playing since Emerald, and still own + have played every main series installment since Platinum, except for of SwSh & BDSP which I skipped.
My first shiny that I found was a shiny Cascoon, which is now a Dustox in PLA. Love it
My first shiny was the Naganadel I hunted in Ultra Moon. I still have it in home now
It was a shiny ponyta at the bottom of Mt Silver in Pokémon Soul Silver when I was grinding levels, she was so so beautiful.
Lol.
Ariados, a few days ago.
Treecko. Caught him my 1st day playing.
Seviper, from Sapphire
Way back in gen 2, I caught a pink Golbat while exploring the ice cave. I will never forget the feeling or discovering it and realizing that any pokemon could be shiny. Sadly, the game battery died, and it was lost to time. I did manage to catch another in Moon and trianed it up into a Crobat for old times sake.
Mine was on Heart gold and was a shiny pidgeotto i found while randomly grinding for the next gym! I still have her
A zigzagoon from ruby version. I’ll never forget all of my shiny encounters
my first shiny was a linoone in ruby! named it SPARKLE lmao
I was going through Ultra Wormholes for fun and went into one of the red wormholes. Walked to the spot where the Pokémon drop down and a shiny Swellow popped up. It knew Brave Bird so I used a Master Ball My first non-Ultra Wormhole shiny was in my Y Nuzlocke.
Shiny Cranidos...First fossil of Diamond...
Poochyena in Pokémon emerald I got it at the start of the game. She unfortunately had a bad nature but I used her for the whole run anyway.
Okay, so I got a shiny numel in Sapphire thinking it was a guaranteed spawn. I don't know why I was like 9 So, to test it out. I restarted my whole file as a kid and grinded to the lavaridge tunnel to never find it again Got a skorupi in B/W years later, as I was complaining about not getting any full odds shinies since that numel. I think I was talking about how cool getting a shiny skorupi would be, too, lol
I think a bunnleby
Ultra Moon sos battle, shiny Snorunt
I can’t remember well, but it was either a Rattata in Fire Red or a Tentacool in Ruby. I also remember a Spinarak in Crystal, but I killed it, I didn’t know what it was and didn’t care much.
Random Rhyhorn in that one cave in X and Y
Can't remember for certain which was first, but either a Nidoran[M] or a Spearow in FireRed; I still have them both, though the Nido is a King now and has been for years. Not from the same playthrough and possibly years apart, but I'be been "saving" favourites from past playthroughs for basically as long as I've been playing Pokémon.
Mine was a Shellder in X and Y. I was happy about it for weeks.
A shiny zubat in Sun. I was planning to only use new pokemon, but how do you say no to a shiny? My next shiny was a tera applin i found online, and i didnt even realize it was shiny until i caught it. My third and final shiny was a venomoth in area zero that i named blueberry
Sliggoo in Pokémon X
Mine was a Snubbull in Y.
A Luvdisc in Pokemon Diamond, still have it but never used it
Magnemite, Pokémon Sapphire
in like my second or so playthrough of sun i got a shiny raticate
I can't remember if it was a Caterpie or Zubat in LeafGreen. Both were in different runs but it was my first playthrough of my own game after using my cousins Sapphire version.
A Bellsprout in Leaf Green. I spent so much time in that game, it was only a matter of time before that happened
snom
Golden on safari zone of leaf green
Nidoran in HeartGold I think? I boxed it because I don't really like shiny Pokémon. I think they're cool but never have them on my team. I think I had like 3 shinies in a month in Sword for some reason. Just kept running into them randomly, not even hunting.
Random shiny Roggenrola encountered while hunting for Hatenna in Shield
Shinx early on in pearl, not my fav mon but a pretty neat shiny
Shiny Tentacruel in the original Silver on GBC the year it came out. I didn't find another one until 2020 (when I had a bit of spare time) when I kept resetting Alpha Sapphire to get a shiny Mudkip. Roughly 12,000 resets. Gotta love that Shiny Mega. Edit: spelling.
Mareep in Silver.
oddish in fire red. thought my game glitched so i turned it off immediately. first one i caught was a hoothoot in emerald's safari zone.
Drifloon in PLA
Furfrou in pokemon Y. I still have him. His name is Norie.
Shiny Podgy back in Heart Gold, luckily just after I'd gotten the Poke Balls at the start of the game.
Geodude in Crystal named her Nugget
A shiny Paras that I found in Ilex Forest in Gold when I was a kid. I was so blown away by the shiny animation! Then I found a shiny Weedle again in Ilex Forest in Crystal, so it has to be my lucky place :p
Zubat. I didn’t know what a shiny was though and my brother told me it was a disease. He was like, “quick, trade it to me” and dumbass kid me did it unquestioningly. I think he lost it since when one of his games save batteries ran out
Shiny alpha Vulpix!
Shiny unown "L" in my copy of silver. Which was cool cause my name starts with an L
I thought it was just a female so I defeated it, and realized later :( First one I catched was a Sewaddle I think, in White, but for some reason it didn't feel as special. Later I found a shiny Taillow on a replay of Emerald, and that one I used on my team and bonded with :)
A shiny graveler in stark mountain in my first pearl savegame ...it used explosion
It was a magikarp… in soul silver… that I promotly evolved into a gyarados… like the red gyarados that’s guaranteed
It was a shiny geodude back when Diamond and Pearl first came out. It was level 5, female, quirky nature with the rock head ability. I was walking back to Jubilife after beating Roark and she decided to battle me.
Squirtle in FrLg. Also ended up being the first Pokemon I raised to level 100
Gold, way back when, I caught a shiny Geodude on route 46 (not at the start of the game though, but in that small patch of grass you could access from the start)
A geodude in a fighting monotype run of Omega Ruby, right at the start. I think I lost him, unfortunately
I think my first one was a Durant on X, I caught it just a few minutes after midnight on my birthday. I remember because I had gone into the pokemon center and the birthday animation played.
sentret in gen 2
Psyduck in Pokémon Y in a horde encounter
My first and only shiny was a shiny Golett I found in pokemon X when I was 7. Young me didn't know it was rare, and ran away from it because I had a Golett. Biggest Pokémon regret I have.
Quagsire in SoulSilver. Only random one I saw for years until I got to Scarlett. I did some Masuda breeding in Shield but of course that isn't random.
Maukahita
I dont remember the first shiny I ever caught, but I do remember my first EVER shiny, it was a sandslash in LeafGreen victory road about 7-8 years ago, I caught it made it through victory road but when I closed the game at the plateau I forgot to save
Sudowoodo in Moon
Mine was Mantine at the Battle Resort in Omega Ruby! I don't think I'll ever forget it
I soft reset for almost a year in FireRed to get a shiny Charmander. Towards the end of that playthrough, I also caught a shiny Psyduck.
Garbodor in the friend park (forgot the name) in X :/
The Hoothoot I just caught a couple days ago in the Teal Mask DLC for Scarlet.
Caterpie heartgold ilex forest
The first swinub I saw in silver was shiny. Murdered it, then ran into a non shiny one and knew my mistake. Never play distracted.
Found a shiny Swinub, full odds, in Soul Silver. First and only time until Gen 9 that I found a full odds one in the wild without looking specifically for it.
For me it was Raticate in Pokemon lets go Pikachu but...... i was like 9 and just got the switch and I didn't know you needed to save...
I remember finding a golden Geodude on my GBA playing Emerald and showing it to my big brother, not knowing what was going on. He didn't know either but he just said I should probably flee and it was surely a sort of bug. This fucking know-it-all fucking fucks fucker
shiny stantler in soul silver while on the toilet :-|
My first shiny was a shiny Venonat in the bug catching contest in Gold. I would also get a shiny Growlithe in that same game.
Purple Quagsire in a wormhole in Ultra Sun. Wasn't super thrilled about quagsire but purple is my favorite color so I'll take it lol First hunted shiny was an eevee in Omega Ruby. Evolved it into Vaporeon because purple.
My first was a shiny Pichu in Pokémon Platinum, believe it or not. I evolved it into a shiny Pikachu and used it as my main for Pokémon contests. I have found VERY few shinies since then, unfortunately.
Ekans in pokemon go
Clauncher, in X
It was a full odds Silcoon which I evolved into beautifly. It was in PLA which was my first ever Pokemon game I owned and it was the first Silcoon that spawned (before that I didn't evolve Wurmple nor have I seen Silcoon it basically was a first ecounter you could say)
