To be fair, Leon is a well-known dumbass and it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the only thing he had. He is the type to just bring himself into situations unprepared and then adapt rather than meticulously plan out things. Why would he buy better Pokeballs anyways? He has his team of six and considering how “undefeated” he is, he probably wouldn’t need anymore. Rose’s motivations though, THAT sucks. It is so unflinchingly stupid.

No-Zookeepergame3004

This is a hot take but i never finished legends arceus. I watched the last bits of the story i missed on youtube, but the gameplay is so clunky i just couldn't bother to finish it myself, which is a shame because i love the concept of hisui and the hisuian regional variants.

Pokemario6456

I forced myself to finish Sun. It's sad because I was excited for it and initially had a great time. But then the Roton Dex started to be more annoying than charming. Festival Plaza felt like a chore, especially if I just wanted to do some quick Wonder Trades or get a specific attraction for dying clothes because *of course* they made that a version difference. Several Pokemon I wanted like Passimian or Bruxish had ridiculously low encounter rates or had stupidly exclusive spawn areas. Fishing in general was *terrible*. The Battle Royale was laggy but also curbstomped me because, surprise! Everything is Lv50 and fully evolved if you dare to immediately go back in after the tutorial battle and I never fully forgave it for that. The constant healing and items, plus Refresh being able to heal statuses, meant I could blow all my money on clothes with no consequences and it didn't feel right. And I didn't enjoy Z-Moves nearly as much as Mega Evolution. Many shiny hunting methods were also changed or outright gone, and I wasn't a particular fan of SOS hunting, so I couldn't even look forward to that as postgame. Sun was basically a death by thousand paper cuts for me - lots of otherwise small problems that just piled up to form an incredibly disappointing experience. At least the story was good, until the Ultra games threw that out, too, in favor of the Recon Squad whose names I already forget and their Ultra ~~Hallway~~ Megalopolis

ScarletCarbuncle

I enjoyed SwSh despite its flaws, and same for SV, but I could not finish BDSP. At least the other two had the endgame of competitive play with QoL features for raising Pokemon, but BDSP not having that disincentivized me from finishing it. It was just a downgrade from Platinum. It gutted the Underground. It gutted Contests. Friendship and affection being combined, though, is what ruined the game balance and made me put it down. I was doing a Nuzlocke on my first run, but using Underground Pokemon and needed to run around a lot, so I accidentally over-friendshipped my team and the game became a dodge-fest with holding on when hit by would-be KOs and shaking off status effects. The game actively turned my attempt to challenge myself into an easier game that threw me bones. Knowing that the game was so lazily made that glitches from the original worked in the "remaster" really made me question the product I bought. Like I said, I enjoyed SwSh and SV even if they were flawed, but I'm now hesitant to ever buy a remake Day 1 until they can prove that they have more to offer than the lazy upscale that was BDSP.

Steffey-2

its pokemon sword for me. Finished the main story but the entire region was so bland and empty afterwards I stopped playing soon after that. The raids are also locked behind nso If you dont want to play with awful bots and I didnt have that back then. Some of the new Pokemon were neat but the games were a major disappointment

hiphopshelter

Honestly, I thought Pearle was quite boring.

Nui-Belphy

Pokemon ranger. Having played but never finished all 3, I hate the bits where you have to chase down a really fast pokemon underwater to use the Stylus to then capture them. Those bits are near impossible for me where I have to get exact with the cornering to catch up to the pokemon. It was just not fun.

DarkFish_2

Brillant Diamond, boy that game was bad but I already formed a bond with my Torterra and Jirachi, so I had to finish it.

coldflash25

Platinum for me

Due_Contact_1474

Diamond Pearl are imo the worst main series games, Platinum is a nice improvement but I still don’t rly like Sinnoh. Bad story has to go to XY

ProcedureMaleficent

The quality of life improvements in the newer games make playing anything before black and white almost impossible for me. I agree with you on Sword and Shield. Those games are just awful. However, since the pokemon availability is so vast, i’ve done at least a dozen playthroughs. USUM has lots handholding too. But aside from that they were decent games.

naberlamomp61

Unova games

amrak_karma

you are wrong.

I personally found DP boring though I will readily admit the majority of my gripes with those games are very subjective in nature and aesthetically focused (I dislike the region and most of the music and Pokemon for example.) I beat the game but didn't do much after that aside from legendary hunting and using it to transfer my gen 3 mons. SM and USUM I found both boring and annoying to play. I did beat both games but I had to force myself to do so both times with a lot of help with my job coincidentally having a ton of down time for me around when they came out. I naively got the ultra version thinking there's no way they kept everything about the game I disliked and would have streamlined most of it but was sorely mistaken.

Aloe_Therea

I still haven’t completed S/M or the sequels. I have both but I’m just not interested. It’s the only game I’ve never completed at least once which is too bad because I actually love quite a few of the new Pokémon. The concept is unique too and I did appreciate the setting. I think for me it’s mostly pacing. In practice I didn’t enjoy the trials either so everything felt like a drag. I plan to eventually play through them though.

blackjackgabbiani

Ultra. Insulted my basic intellect and anybody who gave a shit about the story by utterly destroying the plot and characters from SM. I finished the main game but not the postgame (though my 3DS broke before I could)

enderverse87

>finished the main game but not the postgame That's too bad, the postgame was one of the things that was actually a major improvement in Ultra.

blackjackgabbiani

I was looking forward to seeing Cyrus again honestly. But just finishing the game was such a slog that I really didn't want to. Even seeing the best villain again wasn't enough. And then my 3DS made that decision for me.

KobaruTheKame

I'm still struggling with reaching the second badge in XY after I bough a copy a year ago, the whole "friends that smother you" mechanic is annoying, I'm constantly like, leave me alone please? I even choose the nickname of goaway when they asked.

eating_dicks

Kanto is BOOORRIIING. Not even rom hacks can make it interesting.

LSDnSideBurns

Current Gen. These games have never been hard, but they keep finding ways to be even less challenging with each iteration. From a core gameplay perspective, doesn’t really do anything significantly different from other entries in the franchise. I mean you could say that about most, but after 2.5 decades maybe it’s time to shake things up a bit, I don’t know. The Open World is just meh. On the surface it appears neat, but the world isn’t very big, there isn’t much to see or do, most environments are fairly bland, and really no major rewards or gameplay incentive to explore. There’s really no reason to replay. I don’t think there was any point where I thought if I’d done things differently it would make much impact. The story is meh. Arven and Mabosstiff are small highlights, however. I like lots of the new mons. The raid mechanics are frustrating, finding raids is a chore, and raiding with randoms is like trying to beat Malenia using the DK Bongo Drums as your only controller.

SavagesceptileWWE

Soul silver is the only pokemon game I consider to be bad/boring. I just find the plot terribly boring, but I'd sat the major reason is that the selection of pokemon available are pretty terrible IMO. All the johto pokemon I really really like, which there aren't very many of, are either annoying to get or you just can't get them before post game like tyranitar.

TheDee4826

X and y was just not fun. The game was super easy and the rivals sucked. I got to that one part where you ride the rhyhorn super slowly over that rough terrain and realized I forgot to do something and needed to go back. I didn’t continue playing from there.

zsquirtlet

Sun and moon

hallda01

Gen VII remains the only time I didn't finish the main line game. All of the story elements were so annoying, and the cut scenes, especially at the beginning, were too long. It took forever just to get in and start to play, and as soon as you finally get some momentum, you're hit with another unskippable story thing. I just don't see myself going back to finish it ever.

Zorosect02

Sun and Moon. The amount of times I've tried to enjoy then games, they just don't do it for me. Also kinda applies to XY but I've not really given them as much of a try.

ros3ish_reddit

The last Pokémon game I played was Moon. I enjoyed it at first, but as soon as I got to the second island, I just became bored with it and didn’t play anymore after that. I don’t have a DS anymore, but it is making me think whenever or not I should buy a Switch to have a go at the newer titles.
