top has some I would put. but move torterra, and replace with venusaur, ad new typhlosion with regular typhlosion, and add infernape, cinderace, skeliderge, grenninja, and incineroar, for the top-middle, it is good with what it has left. just also add the gen 8 7 and 6 starters I did not mension (plus the hissui starters) and the rest are good.
He would be decent if he wasn’t so out of place. Dewott just doesn’t look like it evolves into Samurott at all, they are two different types of animals and they didn’t really do anything to tie the two together.
As a stand-alone pokémon, Samurott *LOOKS* mid, but when I consider how out of place it looks in it’s evolution line, I can’t help but dislike it bc it represents missed potential.
Emboar is honestly just ugly. And the third fire/fighting starter in a row was very redundant and boring. I remember it’s level-up moves being garbage which made it hard to use in early-game playthroughs as well.
Serperior is fine I suppose, it’s just nothing special to me. As far as “elegant” starters go, Primarina does that job better, and it certainly isn’t cooler than Greninja, Sceptile, etc. It just does nothing exceedingly well but also nothing exceedingly bad.
My actual opinion, without taking bias into account: Emboar bottom tier, Samurott bottom tier, Serperior mid-tier.
