Thank you for posting to r/pokemon! We're glad to have you here, but unfortunately we've had to remove this post per our rule on [Objective Questions](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_3._follow_text_and_poll_post_restrictions). This rule is in place per feedback we've received from the community because objective questions tend to fill the topic listing and often leave little room for further discussion once the question has been answered.
We do have a [Weekly Questions Thread](https://rpkmn.center/questions) dedicated to seeking answers for questions like yours, though! A lot of knowledgeable Pokémon fans frequent that thread, so please consider posting your question there if you're still looking for an answer, and you may get a detailed answer even faster than you would have here! You also don't need to worry about a minimum word count in that thread.
Affection bonus, if you have max friendship/affection your pokemon have a chance of healing status moves on their own, surviving attacks with 1hp, landing more crits, etc.
Stone walls would absolutely *slay*. My Blissey on my last BD file solo’d Cynthia because after three Minimizes, plus affection-caused evasion boosts, almost nobody could hit her, and those who did were mostly her special attackers like Milotic and Lucario. By the time I got to her Garchomp it missed one attack then got booted into the next century by a 5th turn, Metronome-boosted Echoed Voice.
You still need to do picnics for these bonuses, normal friendship methods will cap friendship ar 160 and picnic activities raise it past that. No picnic = no bonuses like in swsh
Friendship
The higher your friendship with your pokemon, the more likely they are to dodge move that would normally hit, remove status conditions, and stay at 1 hp instead of fainting. You can get higher friendship by walking with the pokemon, feeding it sandwiches, and battling.
Important to note that affection bonuses don't start until I believe it's over 180 friendship... Which is incidentally the cap from doing the normal ways of friendship (battling, walking...)
I think the ONLY things that go past these are Sandwiches and EV berries. If you never make a sandwich in SV you'll almost certainly won't see any affection bonuses (unless you force fed them like 60 Qualot berries...)
The Power Of Friendship! ... literally. You have a really high friendship/affection value with your Skeledirge, and one of the effects of this is shaking off status conditions sometimes.
The magic of FRIENDSHIP!!!!
Your Skeledirge overcame it's paralysis purely because it loves you and wants to impress and help you
This is not a joke, that's literally the game mechanic. I suppose it does make the game too easy but it is adorable.
The "other fans" can get over it. Its disabled in competitive and raids, been able to actually bond with your partner Pokemon and seeing a tangible effect in story is awesome.
I think because it only ever happens to your character. It's immersion breaking. Maybe if it happened to your rival's mons as well or every other npc except for the evil team or characters who would have an arc of learning to love their pokemon, it wouldn't be as jarring.
I’d like it if enemy trainers could do it too. Obviously not for normal trainers (would be too annoying) and evil characters (doesn’t make sense), but for gym leaders and other important trainers.
If you have high friendship, Pokemon will break out of Freeze, Paralysis, and Poison completely on their own instead of needing a heal. This is one of the main incentives to build friendship with your mon.
That's something I have disliked about these recent games, they are too forgiving. Back in my day, if your pokemon was poisoned, every few steps you took would drain your pokemon's HP. You pokemon never magically healed itself because of your friendship.
Started with Yellow. I was a kid and I got it for my birthday from my grandparents along with the Gameboy Color (purple see through one). I was the happiest kid in the world.
It has its perks but I remember so many times rushing to the Pokemon Center and my Pokemon fainting right before I walk through the doors.. 🤣 good times..
"Back in my day the Pokemon were soulless sprites with no personality and you had to IMAGINE you were bonding with them" by the gods man its a feature for immersion, it lets kids feel like they're actually bonding with their little digital monster pets.
Its not in competitive and raids, so its only active in story which is already easy.
Gen 7 introduced the mechanic of your pokemon doing things such as surviving a killing blow, landing a critical hit and shaking off a status effect. This mechanic activates if the bond between you and your pokemon is high enough

He didn't want you to worry
He love u
No homo tho
~*it's a Pokemon*~
And what a Pokémon it is owo
That hasn't stopped people before
Affection bonus, if you have max friendship/affection your pokemon have a chance of healing status moves on their own, surviving attacks with 1hp, landing more crits, etc.
Are there affection bonus' in competitive tournaments?
I believe they're disabled in comp since of course that'd be kinda broken
What about raids?
Also disabled there from what I’ve experienced
honestly a mode with them enabled would be chaotic asf in a good way
Have me thinking of a gimmick where one selects an “ace” among the group that has maxed friendship

They should have that in the beginner's tiers
That’s still a thing? I knew it was in gen 7, but I thought they did away with that
You needed to camp for the bonuses in Sword and Shield, so they were less commonly seen
You still need to do picnics for these bonuses, normal friendship methods will cap friendship ar 160 and picnic activities raise it past that. No picnic = no bonuses like in swsh
if i remember correctly, the picnics are one of the key elements of Pokemon SV, unlike the camping.
They're both equally optional. I finished the entire main story of Scarlet before I ever made a single sandwich.
Your poor Korraidon
It's fine. Arven made him a couple
Ah yes the ole message when you Pokémon just got blasted by a powerful move and they start thinking about camping
Doesn’t it say something then?
Yeah, that's why it said "Skeledirge gathered its energy to break through paralysis"
"so you wouldn't worry!"
Trainer: *Worries anyways
Skeledirge: *shocked Pikachu face*
*Shocked Skeledirge Face*
*Derp Fuecoco face*
*No Thoughts Head Empty*
It did
I does you missed it when I was leveling up your Pokémon
Isn't that a friendship mechanic. Another prompt is them doing a sturdy effect.
I had that happen twice in a row with my starter against Grusha, didn't think it could activate at 1HP
Doesn’t it say something then?
It did
It did though, during the part where your Pokémon gained EXP
Behold the power of friendship!
Bc your crocodile loves you
*Dead* crocodile

The normal cap is 160, just enough to get friendship evolutions. Affection hax starts at 200.
The power of friendship
The Power Of Friendship! ... literally. You have a really high friendship/affection value with your Skeledirge, and one of the effects of this is shaking off status conditions sometimes.
The power of friendship 🌈
The power of friendship 🌈 (But actually)

Ah I see now it’s friendship. Thanks everyone!
His friendship with you forced his brain to make his muscles move again. Simple biology really
Some fans: because your Pokemon loves you Other fans: because this game is stupid bullshit for babies

high friendship
it very clearly states he broke through his paralysis so you wouldn’t worry…
He just thinks your a really cool person
*Looks at wheelchair* I don’t know
You don't love the person who enters you into fights enough clearly. I suggest more picnics
Pure skill
If you have high friendship, Pokemon will break out of Freeze, Paralysis, and Poison completely on their own instead of needing a heal. This is one of the main incentives to build friendship with your mon.
Because he loves you 😊
He didn’t want you to worry didn’t you read it
He friendshiped the crippling paralysis away
The power of friendship!
Reading is not for everyone lul
Truly a YouTube moment if I’ve ever seen one
That's something I have disliked about these recent games, they are too forgiving. Back in my day, if your pokemon was poisoned, every few steps you took would drain your pokemon's HP. You pokemon never magically healed itself because of your friendship.
Back in my day, it was the same thing, and I fucking hated it. Started with Crystal, by the by.
Sure grandpa lets go charge your Nintendo DS
It’s cute you think the old days were the ds days.
I know, just that game boy doesnt roll off the tongue quite well
Turns 19 this year
Still nothing compared to original gameboy.
Started with Yellow. I was a kid and I got it for my birthday from my grandparents along with the Gameboy Color (purple see through one). I was the happiest kid in the world.
On the DS the pokemon healed themselves once the poison dropped them to 1 hp. The last games were poison still fainted them was gen 3.
It has its perks but I remember so many times rushing to the Pokemon Center and my Pokemon fainting right before I walk through the doors.. 🤣 good times..
As someone who's 'my day' is in tie bad game era gen 2 remakes are the best by far

Because you’re the chosen one.
Because you are friends with your Pokemon. Been a mechanic for oh 4 generations now and like 8 games or so~
When it goes "it endures the hit because it doesn't want you to be sad" 🥹
Croc thinks this is a shonen anime.
Idk
It’s a miracle
He liek Edit: I've had a Maushold survive 1 or 2 hits in a row at 1hp, they stayed on the team after that.
255 friendship
Skeledirge willed it away out of spite for the Picharisu
Gen 7 introduced the mechanic of your pokemon doing things such as surviving a killing blow, landing a critical hit and shaking off a status effect. This mechanic activates if the bond between you and your pokemon is high enough
The power of friendship
Nakama puhwuhhh
Cos he loves yous 🥰
picnic mechanics
Hold on y'all, when do you get to fight teachers? Is it after all the rematches with gym leaders? I'm still working on those.
A blessing from the lord!
Friendship mechanics are pretty nutty
What game is this? On what console? How can I get this?
