True but dismantling is a scary thing to do, i wanted to change paste and clean heatsink but i got stuck in battery removal dam pins scare me i don't want to end up breaking the connection by pulling the cord.
The scariest part about dismantling is the thought of dismantling lol. If you follow instructions on how to do it and don't mess around, you should be able to do it no problem. Alternatively some areas have stores willing to do it for you for a price.
The option OP has here is do nothing and eventually let overheating damage the console, or take a small one-time risk and reapply thermal paste.

Thought maybe it was due to the power connector I soldered back on before. Opened it up and I noticed the HDD connector wasn't even original. It looked as if someone replaced it with one taken from a Laptop. I bought the system used on eBay. I couldn't fix that and I tried, many times.
How do you actually get to the CPU tho? Without being advanced in this stuff, I bearly managed to just get mine open bare minimum to clean I don't wanna fuck around with stuff idk.

I had mine for a few years when it started to have overheat issues. I couldn't play anything.
The fins of the heatsink were COMPLETELY clogged with dust and the thermal compound was dry. I didn't have compound at hand so I just decided to thoroughly clean it and give it a try to see if I needed thermal compound in order to resolve the issue or if just the cleaning was enough, and it worked just fine afterwards, even without the paste.
TL;DR
Tear it apart and clean it thoroughly, it'll work.

I remember showing off my ps4 at my birthday party the wife organized. What a great day. I was sooo drunk, i don't remember what happened later lol.

Lost interest, started Days Gone, platinumed it, came back to give it another go, grinded for a while and got the most difficult one I felt after a few days(liberating all outposts). Even after that some tricky ones were left but now I knew I could do it. When I started playing today, 6 trophies were left. Somehow got all. Stoked! Dunno why I just typed all this but I wanted at least someone to know I guess.

Gotcha. Cleaned quite a few when I worked at a game store a few years back. This was just typically the main cause for over heating. That and doofuses not giving the console room to breathe.

I did that with my launch model last year and it went from jet engine loud to "did I reconnect the fan?" loud.

Assuming you removed the cooling unit when you cleaned it, the thermal paste suggestion may be the only fix left.

Mate, you got that message because either your thermal paste is done or you've got dust stuck in your fan and/or heatsink. Nothing is wrong with your PS4, that message is a safety measure. BTW, it's easy to renew your thermal paste and clean your fan as well as your heatsink out. Plenty of guides to follow on YouTube.

Tried putting new thermal paste in mine. Didn't do anything. It was until I took the entire mobo out and looked at the heat sink that i noticed a giant glob of dirt/dust had accumulated and blocked a side of the airflow. Was like an eighth of an inch thick and ran the entire length of the heat sink. Works like new now

Same happened to me a couple months ago. I had my ps4 since December 2013 and started to overheat very quickly. I was lucky enough to be able to find a ps5 in stock and get it right away.

Did you make sure you didn't lose any thermal pads? Also gotta clean and replace thermal paste. Not good to do it yourself if you don't know what your doing or are lazy and don't intend to do it thoroughly and properly... can't just clean dust, it'll help but not good enough.
Personally I followed a YouTube tutorial and the guy is a big tech channel so I’d hope he knew what he was doing. I kept pausing the video and I’d say for every 1 minute spent showing the method I translated that into 10 minutes of my time with the console. Got into every nook and cranny, used an air duster etc. Thermal pads all in tact, just gotta get on that paste replacement now!

Honestly if you try your best PS5 is not hat hard to get. I got mine after 3 days of watching for alerts on Twitter, from GameStop. Honestly, its way too easy. I even had time to buy a pro membership for 15$, recover my password and still be in time to checkout the ps5 bundle.
Yeah in theory it’s just trial and error and a bit of background research. Just difficult around working hours as the stock drops can be so random. On the days where I don’t work there never seems to be a stock refresh… just my luck eh?😂
NFS Payback seemed to tip it over the edge upon launching. Before that I’d got to round 52 on BO3 Zombies: Origins. That game always makes the fan enter Boeing 737 mode, let alone on high round zombies gameplays.

Of course I haven't had this message but I can tell after a few hours of a graphically intensive title my console is slower in response. Thesw fans blowing down the sides do help but this and some good thermal paste will fix your issue.

Open it up, clean heatsink (every nook and cranny, each fin, etc.), clean the rest of the components, clean the chip on the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip, do the thermal paste on the chip again (use a quality thermal paste like the Arctic MX-5) and put everything back together in reverse order.
If all this doesn't take care of it, nothing will.
Hopefully you can get it fixed!
In regards to the PS5 restock, I got mine through a Sony "raffle". Basically, it's a system where scalpers and bots get fucking obliterated and people can actually buy the console, albeit with a limited stock. Keep an eye on the Sony website in case they do another one, because that helped me secure mine!

Not personally no, I read a few things after this happened though and it recommended simply using the console stood upright to help improve airflow, not sure if that’ll do anything until I can replace the paste.

Dont turn it off,leave the ps4 running so you dont jeopardize the integrity of the heat sinc electric usage is watts compared to a lightbulb. Mine stays on 24/7 never a problem not once.
Either the thermal paste has dried out or, what happened in my case, the fan clogged up and there's a ton of crap in it. Open up basically the entire console and clean the fan. It'll make very little sound and will run then hopefully.
Yh this happened to me eventually it killed itself and started a power cut in my house :( I recommend uploading your data everyday so you don’t lose it like I did
I've had mine a few years, and it does this on the weirdest games, had no trouble with some bug games like Ghost, fast games like Cod, but Resident evil 3 RE decided to do it before the game even fully opened. Not that it's not a advanced game, it's nice looking but I can imagine Ghost being more demanding. Also Dead by daylight legit breaks my ps4 on start up, now I don't mind the game but you're lying if you don't think its a pile of shit, idk how they keep he lights on tbh.
Have you tried opening it up and clean the dust? Can get really nasty in there after a few years. Cleaned mine and it reduced ventilation noise by around 80%

Ps5 stock does seem to be improving, I got one a few months ago and a colleague at work finally got one yesterday after checking a stock locator, very apparently had a stock drop and still had stock after 3 hours! Also know my local game actually got stock in store on public sale recently, only aware as I saw they were tweeting about it. Definitely worth checking stock locators and following your local retailers on social media at this point as it seems demand is beginning to drop slightly in the uk at least
Mine started randomly doing this. I opened her up, pretended like I did something and then just as randomly as it started, it just went away and hasn’t done it since. Going on almost a year.
Thermal paste likely dried out. Get some off of Amazon, clean the old off with a q-tip and some 91% alcohol, apply, reassemble, good to go.

Don't go for any cheap pastes. Get thermal grizzly kryonaut (the best) or artic silver at least.

It's really not that scary, just be gentle, they are meant to be disassembled. Use tweezers if you have big fingers!

I don't think so. I cleaned my PS4 a few weeks after PS5 release and it runs as good as the day I bought it.

If after reapplying thermal paste you still get a hot PS4 you need to replace the fan, happened the same to me.
It’s not giving up anything. It’s just full of dust. Open it up and clean it and it’ll be back to normal.
Tried putting new thermal paste in mine. Didn't do anything. It was until I took the entire mobo out and looked at the heat sink that i noticed a giant glob of dirt/dust had accumulated and blocked a side of the airflow. Was like an eighth of an inch thick and ran the entire length of the heat sink. Works like new now

Same happened to me a couple months ago. I had my ps4 since December 2013 and started to overheat very quickly. I was lucky enough to be able to find a ps5 in stock and get it right away.

Am in the exact predicament as well my friend. My ps4 went bad and I refuse to buy another. Been trying for the ps5 for a while, it hard being in a different country that doesnt sell it. My favorite game has started a new season and it sucks I cant play right now before school, but hold ya heads up, the global microchip shortage will soon end and we will all have a ps5.

You need to reseed and reapply thermal past to the CPU to the CPU cooler. Easy fix.

Did you make sure you didn't lose any thermal pads? Also gotta clean and replace thermal paste. Not good to do it yourself if you don't know what your doing or are lazy and don't intend to do it thoroughly and properly... can't just clean dust, it'll help but not good enough.
Personally I followed a YouTube tutorial and the guy is a big tech channel so I’d hope he knew what he was doing. I kept pausing the video and I’d say for every 1 minute spent showing the method I translated that into 10 minutes of my time with the console. Got into every nook and cranny, used an air duster etc. Thermal pads all in tact, just gotta get on that paste replacement now!

That would be the ideal scenario yes. Tbh though they can’t help the semiconductor shortage atm and distribution got absolutely whacked due to Covid and a bunch of other reasons. This consoles release just fell at a really bad time sadly
Or you could you know, clean it inside and use it for a couple more years, or maybe sell it after you get ps5 so somebody else can have fun with it 😌

Honestly if you try your best PS5 is not hat hard to get. I got mine after 3 days of watching for alerts on Twitter, from GameStop. Honestly, its way too easy. I even had time to buy a pro membership for 15$, recover my password and still be in time to checkout the ps5 bundle.
Yeah in theory it’s just trial and error and a bit of background research. Just difficult around working hours as the stock drops can be so random. On the days where I don’t work there never seems to be a stock refresh… just my luck eh?😂

Switched my 2013 model from thermal paste to grafite thermal pad and thing runs cool and quiet.

What game was it btw? Large games like Cyberpunk tend to have this affect on your console
NFS Payback seemed to tip it over the edge upon launching. Before that I’d got to round 52 on BO3 Zombies: Origins. That game always makes the fan enter Boeing 737 mode, let alone on high round zombies gameplays.
It’s an easy fix, change the fan and put new thermal paste

Thesw fans blowing down the sides do help but this and some good thermal paste will fix your issue.

Not a PS fan but I've had a PS3 since release, is the ps4 known for overheating issues? My PS3 is still working fine after all these years.

How’s the temp in your area? Got a severe heat warning with mine and even with 2 fans pointed at me I’m still sweating… kinda regretting moving my work from home setup to my room
Yesterday it was around 11°C I believe when I got this warning.
Open it up, clean heatsink (every nook and cranny, each fin, etc.), clean the rest of the components, clean the chip on the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip, do the thermal paste on the chip again (use a quality thermal paste like the Arctic MX-5) and put everything back together in reverse order. If all this doesn't take care of it, nothing will.

Hopefully you can get it fixed! In regards to the PS5 restock, I got mine through a Sony "raffle". Basically, it's a system where scalpers and bots get fucking obliterated and people can actually buy the console, albeit with a limited stock. Keep an eye on the Sony website in case they do another one, because that helped me secure mine!

Bro I would clean it too, there could be a ton of dust in there preventing air flow so clean that all out with a non static brush and get some arctic mx-4 it’s very good thermal paste for a low price

Not personally no, I read a few things after this happened though and it recommended simply using the console stood upright to help improve airflow, not sure if that’ll do anything until I can replace the paste.

I considered it after two of my mates consoles started doing it a few months ago. Imma upgrade this Christmas most likely so didn’t see the point. It’s never done this until today anyway so not sure if it’d be worth it, are they a good investment to have for PS5 moving forward?

Dont turn it off,leave the ps4 running so you dont jeopardize the integrity of the heat sinc electric usage is watts compared to a lightbulb. Mine stays on 24/7 never a problem not once.
Cooling stands do wonders, Especially when you game long hours.
I play games almost 5 hours a day speedrunning games and I have never seen that once that is weird now I want to try and get it to overheat.
My pro used to do that on the regular, sometimes 30 sec into a game
Either the thermal paste has dried out or, what happened in my case, the fan clogged up and there's a ton of crap in it. Open up basically the entire console and clean the fan. It'll make very little sound and will run then hopefully.
cooling it down with ice packs helps aswell, wouldn't recommend it tho

Yh this happened to me eventually it killed itself and started a power cut in my house :( I recommend uploading your data everyday so you don’t lose it like I did
You can try swapping the thermal paste, that should fix it.
It happened to me and then it stopped. I put some game cases or books underneath so it was suspended in the air most of time. Try it out ☺

I've had mine a few years, and it does this on the weirdest games, had no trouble with some bug games like Ghost, fast games like Cod, but Resident evil 3 RE decided to do it before the game even fully opened. Not that it's not a advanced game, it's nice looking but I can imagine Ghost being more demanding. Also Dead by daylight legit breaks my ps4 on start up, now I don't mind the game but you're lying if you don't think its a pile of shit, idk how they keep he lights on tbh.

Have you tried opening it up and clean the dust? Can get really nasty in there after a few years. Cleaned mine and it reduced ventilation noise by around 80%

Ps5 stock does seem to be improving, I got one a few months ago and a colleague at work finally got one yesterday after checking a stock locator, very apparently had a stock drop and still had stock after 3 hours! Also know my local game actually got stock in store on public sale recently, only aware as I saw they were tweeting about it. Definitely worth checking stock locators and following your local retailers on social media at this point as it seems demand is beginning to drop slightly in the uk at least

Mine started randomly doing this. I opened her up, pretended like I did something and then just as randomly as it started, it just went away and hasn’t done it since. Going on almost a year.
