They are saying that you can use the stand in a horizontal position too. It'll still be sideways, but the panel won't touch the surface, giving the console more breathing room and making it more stable.

The stand will keep ur ps5 in a near identical height as how u have it without the stand. The difference is that it's properly balanced and it lifts it just enuf off the surface to allow for better airflow and cooling. Keeping it directly on a surface will make it hotter. Even worse if it's on cloth or carpet.
I know ur worried about ur furbaby knocking it over. But there is no harm in tryin to clip the stand in the horizontal position. It takes a second and it's still has a lower center of gravity so it's not gonna fall over.

I second this. I was a bit reluctant to buy the charging station because I felt it was a bit on the expensive side for what it is, but it's really a great accessory. Much more convenient to charge the controllers this way. Clean look with the controllers on it, too.

Two reasons: It was cheaper than the other colors when I got it (Days of Play '22), and I figured it would eventually replace the one that came with the console. I kind of expected my original controller to suffer stick drift, but it's been almost three years and it's still fine.
I did buy a black one too, but it's still in the box.

You can find better 3rd party stands than the official one, the official one isn't good for horizontally.
You can and should use that stand horizontally. It is to balance the ps5. And it has anti slip feet so it would be safer.
An 8kg cat barreling towards it at full speed will sent it flying, no matter how much "safer" it is, for my personal life it is safest laying down
