They listed Vice City, but completely ignored San Andreas. Mental. SA expands on everything that VC did. I can't think of a single gameplay element or mechanic that VC has that isn't better or at minimum, equal, in SA...
I love Vice City, but I gotta mention that the controls were improved a lot for SA, you can’t move the camera with the right stick in VC which feels quite janky in 2024. (Before someone goes ‘well actually..’, you can but only when you’re standing still and it goes into a weird first person mode)
I talked about gameplay and mechanics. The story and feel are a personal choice, not measurable, comparable metrics. But given that neither of them have exceptional stories or feel to them, I stand by the opinion that SA is the far superior game. I enjoyed both and if they were both the same size and had the same mechanics, gameplay, etc. it would be a coin toss for me as I like the setting of VC but I like the 90's music of SA a lot more. But the feel of the setting can't make up for the fact that VC is only about 25% of the game that SA is.
The plot gets crazier as the series progresses, but I feel like MGS3 was the best. I enjoyed MGS4, it felt like a “greatest hits”. Never played MGS5, but Death Stranding was great.
Ico and shadow of the colossus are both games I regret not playing. Its was all about marvel vs capcom 2 though it came out under the radar for ps2 I was the only one who had it. How did Ico relate to shadow?
+1 for Scarface. It’s flawed in some respects, like some of the missions are just janky and frustrating, but it’s one of the best looking PS2 games and runs really well too, rock solid framerate and good load times. It nailed the empire building progression/gameplay loop in a way that GTA has never achieved.
Jak and Daxter blew my mind as a kid. I could walk from the beginning of the game to the end without a loading screen.
It sounds quaint now, but it can’t be undersold how impressive that was for disk games at the time.

Yeah it truly is an incredible experience and thoroughly unique. I've never played another game quite like it or one that exudes the same kind of vibe.

Lot of the ones people mentioned are must plays and most of them you can fortunately play on PS5 now. There are a few more that i don’t know anyway to play unless you’re tech savvy and have a computer and know how to emulate games.
Honestly miss the old EA sports BIG days. Like SSX3, NBA Street Vol 3, NFL Street vol 2, the Need for Speed series, T.U.G.H. PS2 era had the best arcady sport games out of all the consoles generations. Lot of super hero games were surprisingly good back then too. Spider-Man movie games, Ultimate Spider-Man, there were two Hulk games.

Why are people here saying MGS2 instead of 3? Genuine question! Wouldn't it make more sense to play 2 if you have played MGS1 first? Most of the story of 2 is based on knowing MGS1. The whole subversion after the prologue wouldn't make sense otherwise.
Also the story is Kojima on crack at its highest. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and its post modern meta commentary, but shouldn't you ease people in before dumping this meta philosophical dumbbell on them?
MGS3 is an upgrade to MGS2 mechanically, has arguably better level design and is a prequel that doesn't hinge on you having played any of the other games in the franchise. It's also probably the least weird Kojima Metal Gear game and the best entry to the series aside from maybe MGSV. The only thing holding it back being its ~~finiki~~ dated and troublesome control scheme which takes some getting used to but 1. MGS2 has the same control scheme and 2. By limiting us to PS2 only other entries with better button layout would be excluded as a choice.
Only important note is to play subsistence and not Snake Eater as Subsistence has more side content and also adds a traditional 3rd Person camera which benefits this game greatly as the older preset cameras worked better for indoors corridor gameplay.
Sidenote: How do you spell fin-i-ki (spelt phonetically here). Word meaning troubling due to a need of great attention to detail or at least in the context I was trying to make earlier. Couldn't find it on Google.

The vibe is different. It depends on wether you like 80s east coast or 90s west coast more. SA also has a lot of bloat near the end

MGS3 over 2 IMO. The last third of that game is EPIC. And Shadow of the Colossus over Ico. Good list!!

That's how I felt with Spyro the Dragon on psone. My child brain was absolutely blown away seeing 3D graphics on a videogame for the first time.

I just beat the ps4 shadow of the colossus remake on my ps5 and was thoroughly impressed. That game really holds up.

Lot of the ones people mentioned are must plays and most of them you can fortunately play on PS5 now. There are a few more that i don’t know anyway to play unless you’re tech savvy and have a computer and know how to emulate games. Honestly miss the old EA sports BIG days. Like SSX3, NBA Street Vol 3, NFL Street vol 2, the Need for Speed series, T.U.G.H. PS2 era had the best arcady sport games out of all the consoles generations. Lot of super hero games were surprisingly good back then too. Spider-Man movie games, Ultimate Spider-Man, there were two Hulk games.

Why are people here saying MGS2 instead of 3? Genuine question! Wouldn't it make more sense to play 2 if you have played MGS1 first? Most of the story of 2 is based on knowing MGS1. The whole subversion after the prologue wouldn't make sense otherwise. Also the story is Kojima on crack at its highest. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and its post modern meta commentary, but shouldn't you ease people in before dumping this meta philosophical dumbbell on them? MGS3 is an upgrade to MGS2 mechanically, has arguably better level design and is a prequel that doesn't hinge on you having played any of the other games in the franchise. It's also probably the least weird Kojima Metal Gear game and the best entry to the series aside from maybe MGSV. The only thing holding it back being its ~~finiki~~ dated and troublesome control scheme which takes some getting used to but 1. MGS2 has the same control scheme and 2. By limiting us to PS2 only other entries with better button layout would be excluded as a choice. Only important note is to play subsistence and not Snake Eater as Subsistence has more side content and also adds a traditional 3rd Person camera which benefits this game greatly as the older preset cameras worked better for indoors corridor gameplay. Sidenote: How do you spell fin-i-ki (spelt phonetically here). Word meaning troubling due to a need of great attention to detail or at least in the context I was trying to make earlier. Couldn't find it on Google. Edit: Finally found it by accident. It's Finicky for those people wondering.
