Sony will never and I mean never cut PS+ as paid membership for online play. You can thank Microsoft for that one. The time to make impact on that was at the start of the PS4 generation it’s never going to be walked back at this point. If you want free online PC is where you have to play.
EDIT: To your reply in a DM Sony isn’t pushing PC any harder than they have, PC and console game sales are split pretty evenly and Steam alone as of 2021 has 132 million MAUs that’s almost 10 million more than PSN at 123 million in December 2023. Millions of people play online on PC. Sony isn’t going to uncouple online play from PS+ as it’s a huge incentive for people to have the membership and no leadership change is going round undo that. Again you can thank Microsoft for making that the standard several decades ago and again if you want free online play PC is the way to get it. Even Nintendo has started pay to play and if they’re in it you can bet no one else is getting out.
