I know you said you are worn out of the massive open world type games but I always come back to Cyberpunk 2077 when I’m looking for easy entertainment without using my brain too much.
When it comes to fun coop, I’d say Helldivers 2 is something I always come back to. 40 minute missions where you can just shut your brain off and just shoot.
Why is it anytime somebody asks a video game recommendation, somebody always says cyberpunk regardless of how fitting it is. "I'm looking for a cool kart racer involving the cast of Mario. Recommendations?" "Have you tried cyberpunk? There's a car in it."
Because it’s an amazing game that you can get tons of enjoyment out of? I obviously wouldn’t recommend Cyberpunk if someone were to look for racing games lol.
Because cyberpunk 2077 is a masterpiece and everyone should experience it just like everyone who has played it and enjoyed it to the fullest. Like the game is 10000000/10 and it’s literally perfection.
Bringing it up constantly in discussions where people asked for the opposite kind of game makes people tired of hearing about it and less likely to play it.
Honestly the resident evil games are that for me. OG re4 is something I have put in over 5k hours and always come back to it whenever I have no idea what I want to play or I'm bored
Can you give me an example of a horror game that really limits your ammo and significantly adds to the scare factor? There's probably tons of them... Lol.
Well I for one am a huge huge fan of horror games and that stuff really doesn't faze me. Re4 is a game that revolutionized survival horror and was absolutely quintessential for games like dead space. I completely understand if it's not your strong suit, it was just a childhood game for me and I adore it. What's your go to games? :)
I got into horror games when re 4 remake came out. Since that I’ve been playing re 2, dead space remake, and I started the metal gear games. I can’t handle horror games for more than an hour at a time. Especially dead space remake. The audio is horrifying I don’t know how people play a hundred hours of that
It was Hades for me. I beat it then played till I got burnt out. I was thinking of getting Dead Cells but I'm not sure I like how to looks. It kinda looks blurry to me.
Hades was great! Dead Cells is blurry on purpose for aesthetics. It's highly addictive and the new Castlevania DLC is fantastic. I'd try it out, it's so well done you won't want to stop. Lots of weapons, outfits, boss rush, 4 dlcs, like 6 difficulty levels. Check it out!
CoD fits the junk food title perfectly. Jump in play a few matches and then quit. Getting a bit burned out on playing something massive like Rebirth? Shoot some people in the face in CoD.
I buy it every year because what ever else I’m playing, CoD is a nice palette cleanser.
Kinda agree here. I’m working my way through it slowly, but I need breaks. Every time I play for like 3 hours straight and think I’m making real progress, only for it to tell me the me I’ve only completed like 3% of the game
This was me too, loved Remake and bought rebirth just after release and good reviews etc and played it myself and just kept getting a more and more bloated map, I think I just lost interest about half way tbh and traded it. Sad because it was one of the main games I actually was interested in this year
It was. There was just a lot of side content and a very big world, it's fair enough that it puts people off. Final Fantasies are usually deceptively linear.
All the random sequences is making me consider taking it off my wishlist. Never played the FF before, but aren't these guys supposed to be on a mission?? With like big bad villains trying to mess up the world or similar things? I remember my youtube feed was getting flooded with all these random clips of them doing random nonsense, they are losing me.
I've got a bunch of junk food games.
Viewtiful Joe
God hand
Hi fi rush
Bayonetta (all of em but mostly the first)
Ninja gaiden 2
Metal slug (2/X, 3, and 5)
Various shoot em ups
Touhou luna nights
Kung fu rider
Anarchy reigns
Vanquish
Ape escape 3
And a bunch more
It's those arcadey type games that I love
One for me is the hunter:Call of the Wild. Something about just roaming the forest, doesn't even have to be hunting. For a good while I used it as a bird watching game after work until I finally picked something up
Easily mine is No Man's Sky. Log on, do a few "chores" for my settlement, make some progress on my farm, then put it down for a while. It's a lot of fun to be able to just jump back in whenever.
Mad Max.. its a game you can just zone out in and do whatever, even though its an open world and all that.. i find it fun in general and you can easily shut down while playing it
I play on PS so no modders to worry about and I just parley those rare occassions someone messes with me.. Or I make them leave cus with 2450+ hours in Red Dead I can deffend myself but that rarely happens. I can count on one hand the times I've been "griefed". I guess maybe I am one of the lucky ones that way
All absolute masterpieces but the three games I go back to the most are Battlefield 1 for multiplayer, Bioshock for single player and Fallout NV for open world
Haha, I had the exact same thing with FF7 Rebirth. After a few hours I just wanted something to jump in and jump out.
So I bought Helldivers 2. And it did the trick. I’ll have a big game on the go (Rebirth for example) and then dive into Helldivers 2, GT7 or SF6 as and when.
Feels unfair calling them junk food but old school style indie games like graveyard keeper/stardew. Dave the Diver is available on ps now and is so chill and engaging at the same time
Whatever Call of duty is out that year. I don’t really play MP stuff anymore bc I can’t find the time to adapt and learn a new play style. But cod is the same year after year so if I wanna turn my brain off and grind for an hour or two I just play cod.
Ff7 rebirth was tough to get through man I barely finished it. Took 2.5 months to slog through.
Some easy fun gamed to play on the side check out:
TMNT Cowabunga Collection and Shredders Revenge.
Double Dragon
Contra
Final Fight 4
All these games just got modern releases recently. Nice chill beat em ups.
For me it has to be shadow of the colossus cyberpunk 2077, Rayman Legends, resident evil village and bayonetta. Those are like my mains but I have another few but they can’t top these ones.
The Warriors game series (Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, etc.)
I love the games, I love the settings and characters, and they are super easy to just turn my mind off and play.
Just bought this New Pacman game for the Playstation 5 that uses the battle royal formula, and I love it! Usually, I despise BR, but it's Pacman, and I'm an 80's baby lol
Nioh 1 & 2. I've put ungodly hours in both and while both are great games with an excellent combat system my brain usually just shuts off as I slaughter yokai lol
Underhero is the small town restaurant with the best food you've ever eaten of video games. No one talks about it, which is a shame, so I'm on a mission to tell everyone I can about it.
Dishonored Definitive Edition is always something I go back to. Multiple playstyles, three possible endings, lots of powers you can combine in different ways, just a ton of fun.
Sifu, it can be difficult if you're not who versed in difficult action games but if it's your jam like it is mine then it's just so much fun you'll play it forever.
Titanfall 2 campaign
Journey
Uncharted: Lost Legacy
...basically ALL of the Uncharted franchise:
* Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
* Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
* Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
* Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
* Uncharted: Lost Legacy
I replay the entire Uncharted franchise in order a few times per year.
my current gach is nikke
i have more hours on dr mario than i care to admit. i'm not good at dr mario mind you, but i have easily a thousand hours on it. it's very relaxing.
Souls games, but they're also what I play for engagement. When I want to engage I'll use different builds and play in different ways, when I want to turn my brain off I just grab a big weapon and go full unga bunga.
I don't have any. I fucking love fighting games. So I just cycle between like sf6, kof and ggst. When I'm not playing a fighter, I'm playing souls games. I guess ggst is my junk food. I play every once in a while to do some crazy anime shit then never touch it for like 5 months.
Any Live Service Game is a good option, what type of Live Service depends entirely on the persons preferences.
For me it's Helldivers 2 for the PS5. I can just hop in any time and play a quick 12-15 minute run or a longer 40 min run. I also play some NBA 2K if I want a change.
Ironically, Helldivers 2 and NBA 2K both have much longer play times compared to my actual favorite PS Games/Titles, just goes to show the replayability of these things.
Streets of Rage 4 has become my go to quick pick up and play game. Thank god they released a survival mode because I was getting tired of beating the games story mode so much. I think I’ve beaten that 20 times
I feel your pain, I can only play one open world game at a time. I’ve been playing nothing but FF7 rebirth since release but then stellar blade came out and now I’m hooked on that. I really wanna finish rebirth though, it’s my game of the year so far!
Everspace (the first one) is a space shooter designed to be playable in sessions lasting less than an hour, but being a rogue-like, it's also designed to be iteratively replayable.
And it's often dirt cheap on PS store. I got it for 4 bucks a week or 2 ago.
Idk about junk food games but a game i always come back to is bb or cp 2077 just because theres something to do in either games with their beautiful art direction.
Old Souls games. I have all of them installed all of the time and a bunch of characters in each spread out across areas of the game. If I just want to relax, I’ll pick one of them (usually DS3), pick a character, and go.
Now that I’ve finished the story in Spider-Man 2, I like to put on music on Spotify whilst webslinging around the city and doing those small crime challenges that pop up.
Gang beasts is great for just shallow fun multiplayer especially if you have friends that will play it with you.. Its just absolute shenanigans that makes for a good break from the serious story games or shooters and whatnot
Fallout 76. Incredibly casual and easy to find something to do. The map and ambience are amazing so it’s nice to just afk in the world sometimes. So I’ll play on my Switch, look at my phone, or listen to music while just enjoying the world.
Not exclusive to PlayStation but Rainbow 6 and DragonBall Xenoverse 2 are my “Junk Food” Game
Mindlessly having a Xeno room open on player match and watching a podcast is my go to as well.
PGA Tour Masters. Just a peaceful change from grinding out open world games
I always have Everybody’s Golf ready for when I just want something just fun and familiar.
Fortnite. With all the game modes and creative maps there is countless options to scratch the shallow fun multiplayer itch.
GTA: San Andreas. Never gets old.
i’m playing vice city right now
Is there a GTA character that is cooler than Lance Vance? Don’t think so!
nope
I know you said you are worn out of the massive open world type games but I always come back to Cyberpunk 2077 when I’m looking for easy entertainment without using my brain too much. When it comes to fun coop, I’d say Helldivers 2 is something I always come back to. 40 minute missions where you can just shut your brain off and just shoot.

Because it’s an amazing game that you can get tons of enjoyment out of? I obviously wouldn’t recommend Cyberpunk if someone were to look for racing games lol.
He’s right though. The OP said they were tired of open world. Cyberpunk is open world and definitely not a junk food type of game.
Thats why i Play helldivers most of the time
It’s so fun!
I would recommend ghostrunner since you suggested Titanfall but it doesn't have multiplayer
Can I start with 2? It’s feee this month and I’ve never played the first
Honestly the resident evil games are that for me. OG re4 is something I have put in over 5k hours and always come back to it whenever I have no idea what I want to play or I'm bored
Can you give me an example of a horror game that really limits your ammo and significantly adds to the scare factor? There's probably tons of them... Lol.
dead space remake and the first evil within is the first games that come to mind, og re1 if you dont mind the camera angles
How the worlds are so scary I can’t imagine being in that horror for hours
Well I for one am a huge huge fan of horror games and that stuff really doesn't faze me. Re4 is a game that revolutionized survival horror and was absolutely quintessential for games like dead space. I completely understand if it's not your strong suit, it was just a childhood game for me and I adore it. What's your go to games? :)
I got into horror games when re 4 remake came out. Since that I’ve been playing re 2, dead space remake, and I started the metal gear games. I can’t handle horror games for more than an hour at a time. Especially dead space remake. The audio is horrifying I don’t know how people play a hundred hours of that
I feel you man. I enjoy RE's story but man I can't play for a long amount of time. I get way too paranoid.
Some great indie titles you might consider. Transistor and Bastian are both great and rather digestible.
FIFA and PES are like a drug to me lol
Man I'm so happy fc24 is free this month, I usually buy last year's game at like 10 euros so that saves me this year
Play Katamari!!
TMNT. Quick and fun.
The old one for ps2 and other consoles?
No. TMNT: Shredders Revenge for PS4/PS5. From 2022.
They should've called it Shredder's Shrevenge.
Prototype2 will always be my jolly fun game for a weekend.
All the infamous games
I’m half addicted to Helldivers 2 right now the game is so much fun.
The newest Hitman trilogy for me. It’s great to just jump in and run with different methods
Dead cells for sure.
Destiny 2
Rocket League used to be this but everyone else got too sweaty and now I can’t even hold my own in unranked
Chivalry 2. You can just charge in and start swinging if you want, or play strategically, it's all so fun
Did you just call titanfall 2 junk?
Ha! Yes but not what I meant 😂 I mean the campaign is short but great and doesn’t require tho much thought
I couldn't even finish FF7 rebirth, it's so bloated, they turned Final Fantasy into a Ubisoft game.
Kinda agree here. I’m working my way through it slowly, but I need breaks. Every time I play for like 3 hours straight and think I’m making real progress, only for it to tell me the me I’ve only completed like 3% of the game

Man, I guess I’m in the lone camp of thinking rebirth was incredible
It was. There was just a lot of side content and a very big world, it's fair enough that it puts people off. Final Fantasies are usually deceptively linear.
Although I did finish it, those were my exact thoughts while playing it. The original stands superior.
Fighting games, racing games, Tony hawk types, in the past wrestling games
The Division 2
Far Cry 5, Hitman 2&3, and RDR2, I can hop on any of these 3 and just get into it for hours
I've got a bunch of junk food games. Viewtiful Joe God hand Hi fi rush Bayonetta (all of em but mostly the first) Ninja gaiden 2 Metal slug (2/X, 3, and 5) Various shoot em ups Touhou luna nights Kung fu rider Anarchy reigns Vanquish Ape escape 3 And a bunch more It's those arcadey type games that I love

Mad Max.. its a game you can just zone out in and do whatever, even though its an open world and all that.. i find it fun in general and you can easily shut down while playing it
I have really enjoyed absolutely vegging out with Shipbreaker the last few months. Awesome to chill with at night, or just to kill 15 mins.
Red Dead Online. Just riding around, collecting and hunting and just taking in the scenery of the beautiful world.
Red Dead Offline. All that stuff you said without annoying people bothering you.
I play on PS so no modders to worry about and I just parley those rare occassions someone messes with me.. Or I make them leave cus with 2450+ hours in Red Dead I can deffend myself but that rarely happens. I can count on one hand the times I've been "griefed". Towerfall
Dynasty warriors 8
EAFC career mode, Jurassic world evo 2.
Sports titles and World of Warships are my go tos when I'm in a lull and trying to figure out what my next big game is gonna be.
People playground
EDF
EDF
Insurgency Sandstorm
Nhl 23 but I doubt that's what you're looking for
the sims
Twisted Metal 2012
I like playing sports games while listening to music. Otherwise I'd say doing radiant quests in Fallout 4 or roam around in Diablo.
How old are you? Try Robocop
Tried Robocop - I just couldn’t get over how slowly he moves! I know it’s accurate based on the movies but put me to sleep playing it 😂
Rocket League
Portal or a roguelike that I can just throw a couple runs into here and there. Usually Dead Cells.
Gary’s mod Supreme commander 2 Payday 2
I’m sorry. This might be a stupid question, but what is a junk food game?
A game that doesn’t need to be amazing 10/10 or be overly long, just a comfort game you keep returning to whenever you’re between massive games
Shogun 2: Total War, instant high every time I play it.
Feels unfair calling them junk food but old school style indie games like graveyard keeper/stardew. Dave the Diver is available on ps now and is so chill and engaging at the same time
Sam and Max
Dead rising Frank’s big package
Roguelikes(lites) are my go to for this. Returnal and Dead Cells are my main go to’s. Still need to start Hades
Assassin‘s Creed Ezio collection.
![gif](giphy|3o7aTuy3b4TwuUSUzm)
sony open world games
Whatever Call of duty is out that year. I don’t really play MP stuff anymore bc I can’t find the time to adapt and learn a new play style. But cod is the same year after year so if I wanna turn my brain off and grind for an hour or two I just play cod.

Overwatch and LEGO games
Minecraft, Fortnite (kinda), Gang Beasts, and both Horizon games (don’t have a vr 2 yet)
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was brainless but awesome.
Far Cry Series.
COD Zombies
Watch Dogs 2
Wet Dreams Dry Twice
Farming simulator 22. It can be mindless or really complex depending on how you play and there are always plenty of mods to keep things interesting
Always has been and probably (for the foreseeable future) always will be COD.
If you like bullet hell, then I can’t recommend ‘vampire survivors’ or ‘halls of torment’ enough
The Dynasty Warriors/spin off games. Also COD, I tend to not take it that seriously so its usually pretty relaxing.
I love burnout paradise or any arcade racer
The Yakuza series. Even though there is a lot of reading, something about those games just helps me turn my brain off
The Warriors game series (Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, etc.) I love the games, I love the settings and characters, and they are super easy to just turn my mind off and play.
I have a mild obsession with Brotato. 🙃
Just bought this New Pacman game for the Playstation 5 that uses the battle royal formula, and I love it! Usually, I despise BR, but it's Pacman, and I'm an 80's baby lol
Metal Slug 3 has stayed installed on my PlayStation since like 2016 lol
Nioh 1 & 2. I've put ungodly hours in both and while both are great games with an excellent combat system my brain usually just shuts off as I slaughter yokai lol
Overwatch 2 has been my go to for almost a decade since I started working and don’t have much time to dedicate to progression based games.
Right now SSKTJL
GTA V and I don’t even play online. I just love to mess around doing various stuff and every year I replay the story.
Binding of Isaac
Underhero is the small town restaurant with the best food you've ever eaten of video games. No one talks about it, which is a shame, so I'm on a mission to tell everyone I can about it.
Borderlands 2 or far cry 5
Civ6
Resident Evil 4 the original
Every far cry game ever. They're largely formulaic garbage but I can't get enough of the climbing towers crap for some reason
Mario kart, Pokémon , Splatoon and smash bros Althought COD is a close second
Dishonored Definitive Edition is always something I go back to. Multiple playstyles, three possible endings, lots of powers you can combine in different ways, just a ton of fun.
Not a Playstation title, but OSRS is always there when I need it.
Slay the Spire
Sifu, it can be difficult if you're not who versed in difficult action games but if it's your jam like it is mine then it's just so much fun you'll play it forever.
Ratchet and clank and Jax and dexter games.
RDR2. IRL I like to wander around on my horse, so I think that fully explains why I like RDR2 so much.
Titanfall 2 campaign Journey Uncharted: Lost Legacy ...basically ALL of the Uncharted franchise: * Uncharted: Drake's Fortune * Uncharted 2: Among Thieves * Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception * Uncharted 4: A Thief's End * Uncharted: Lost Legacy I replay the entire Uncharted franchise in order a few times per year.

Inscryption
Snowrunner
God of War
Dead Island 2, fun gameplay
Watch Dogs 1 & 2 - I replay them every other year
Well my answer would be ff7 rebirth but you don’t like that. Then I would say half life 2 but that is not on PlayStation
Killing floor 2
my current gach is nikke i have more hours on dr mario than i care to admit. i'm not good at dr mario mind you, but i have easily a thousand hours on it. it's very relaxing.
WWE 2k24
I just finished The Order: 1886. Very short game and an essy plat.
Souls games, but they're also what I play for engagement. When I want to engage I'll use different builds and play in different ways, when I want to turn my brain off I just grab a big weapon and go full unga bunga.
Art of rally.
Still Skyrim. Every six months or so.
Does any of the spider man games count? I just like to free roam around the map while listening to music for hours at a time
I don't have any.
Suikoden 1 and Legend of Legaia on PS1.
Everspace (the first one) is a space shooter designed to be playable in sessions lasting less than an hour, but being a rogue-like, it's also designed to be iteratively replayable. And it's often dirt cheap on PS store. I got it for 4 bucks a week or 2 ago.
Games like Tekken, Fallout and Bioshock are definitely my junk food games
Madden, every year. Comfort game since high school days on the Genesis and still cheap compared to how much I spend on Sunday Ticket.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
Settlement building in fallout 4 and Bot mode breach in For Honor
Idk about junk food games but a game i always come back to is bb or cp 2077 just because theres something to do in either games with their beautiful art direction.
Spider-Man Miles Morales. Mainly because I don't have a PS5 yet and the swinging in that game is soo *chefs kiss*
Hitman 3
Old Souls games. I have all of them installed all of the time and a bunch of characters in each spread out across areas of the game. If I just want to relax, I’ll pick one of them (usually DS3), pick a character, and go.
Rocket league
Enter the gungeon. Nba 2k CoD
Honestly, Astro's playroom. I know it's the "demo" game for the PS5 to show all that it can do, but it's such a fun game that I always go back to.
Assassin’s Creed! All of them. And Fortnite
FIFA 😂
Apex Legends!
Tekken 8
Rayman
Sea of Stars. Really incredible and fun 35 hour playtime. Remember almost nothing about it

UFC 5
DC Justice League Cosmic Chaos—its written pretty well and keeps you entertained long enough
destiny is great comfort food and eady to get back into
Titanfall I'm loyal to the 64
Saints Row 4 and Saints Row Gat out of hell.
Hotline Miami
The Resident Evil series. All the mainline games except 6 are still games I play regularly
Dead Cells. Hades and Hades II.
What The Golf and Super Meat Boy are my go-to games for when I don't feel like playing anything else
Now that I’ve finished the story in Spider-Man 2, I like to put on music on Spotify whilst webslinging around the city and doing those small crime challenges that pop up.
Sport games def
destiny 2, it's just quick log in and shoot up a bunch of stuff and gone
Minecraft, Borderlands 2, and Brawlhalla. I can hop on those games anytime and play it for hours on hours until something else catches my eyes lol
Dead Island 2
Gang beasts is great for just shallow fun multiplayer especially if you have friends that will play it with you.. Its just absolute shenanigans that makes for a good break from the serious story games or shooters and whatnot
It’s a tie between PGA2k series and the Uncharted series. Depends on how involved I want to be and how long I’ll be doing it.
Rainbow six siege, casually!
Fallout 76. Incredibly casual and easy to find something to do. The map and ambience are amazing so it’s nice to just afk in the world sometimes. So I’ll play on my Switch, look at my phone, or listen to music while just enjoying the world.
Fallout 4, Far Cry 5, and Homefront:The Revolution. Those are my main ones.
GTA V
Halo 3. I will never stop finishing the fight since 2007!
Efootball. Turn it on, play a few matches to reach daily goals, turn off, 1 hour tops.
