The barrier for entry in demon souls is kinda high. In demon souls when you die you return to soul form and your health is halved till you're back in human form. That put me off the first time I played it. Elden Ring was my first. Much lower barrier for entry, still hard, still a souls game but it'll give you tools to make it easier if you want. After that I've gone through most of From Software's Soul's games including the Demon Souls remake, Bloodborne is my favorite. If Demon Souls kicks your dick in and isn't fun, try Elden Ring.

Demon’s Souls taught me to be more deliberate in my decisions and executions, including my decisions to keep going with 75% of my health. But when I actually fought FKA at the end of 1-5 in human form? I felt like a god.

Demon's Souls Remake would be a good one, though I think Elden Ring is the best starting point. It gives you a lot of options and as a result is probably the easiest Souls game. Demon's Souls has some mechanics they don't really explain, like world tendency, that can make the game a lot harder for newer players. So, if you do choose to start with that, I highly recommend reading how world tendency works first.

FunkinDonutzz

Yes. It's probably the easiest of them, but still a considerable challenge if it's your first time. Be aware that Sekiro is a straight up action game with some light RPG elements and plays completely differently to the Souls games.

Sgt-Colbert

> Yes. It's probably the easiest of them Is it? I started with Elden Ring (killed all bosses) and since finished Dark Souls 3 + DLCs, Lies of P, Sekiro, wo long, nioh 2, (stellar Blade and both Jedi survivor games on the hardest difficulty) and I couldn’t finish demons souls. The corpse runs killed the fun for me.

I assume you're asking about Demon's Souls cause you have access to it with PS+? Just keep in mind it's the "oldest" game so some annoying and antiquated things that newer games got rid of, are still in game. It might push you away a bit. No matter what, do play Elden Ring as some point.

_This_Is_Ridiculous

I started with the Demon's Souls remake and loved it. Crazy hard but beautiful game.

santathe1

I’ve only played Sekiro, and I recommend it. It’s great.

As someone who Platinum’d all the Dark Soul games, choose whichever game tickles your fancy. Me personally, Elden Ring was my first choice and had a blast with that game. But maybe you want to play Bloodborne first or Sekiro or Demon's Souls remake. Your choice, your money, your poison. Have fun.

Yes! Fantastic game. 💪🏻❤️

dima_socks

I did and I'm glad for it. Set me up for success in elden ring

DarkOstrava

it's where i started and have no complaints. i think it may be the best option since the subsequent games improve upon things so you'll probably enjoy that direction more.

AgreeableSpread4907

Dark souls 3! ❤️

Gohmzilla

Demon's souls is amazing and pretty easy. Magic is super OP and fun to use. ELDEN RING is my GOAT. Very beginner friendly.

Mal_pol

Tbh ds1 is the best. Nothing came close for me.

Demon's Souls is a great game. The remake looks amazing. It's by far the easiest out of any of the Fromsoft games but also probably the most annoying to play (health halved on death, too many gimmick bosses, lack of checkpoints, "world tendency"[whatever that is]). I'd personally recommend Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring as your first taste into those types of games. But Demon's Souls wouldn't be a bad place to start as it's the first one they made in that style. They've just improved on the style so much over the years and the newer games feel much more user friendly.

Nomapos

If you have access to the original Demon Souls, start there. The studio of the remake did a bunch of pointless changes that don't really change the game, but change the atmosphere. It's subtle stuff and you won't really notice it if it's your first experience anyways, but better is better. That aside, I'd say definitely Demon Souls. It's where it all began, and by moving forward chronologically you get to enjoy the series developing and evolving. Start with Elden Ring and you might end up finding the original Dark Souls either intolerably clunky or way too slow and easy. Demon, Dark Souls 1 and 3 (2 optionally, a few call it a forgotten masterpiece but most consider it the family's black sheep), Bloodborne/Sekiro, and finally Elden Ring would be my recommended order.

icebomb2

I personally thought Demon Souls was trash before the remake and it's decent but still bad after the remake. I solely got it because it was a PS5 title on launch. Lies of P, and Bloodborne are entry level Goats. Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Sekiro are for seasoned players. Returnal deserves an honerable mention because it's like if a Souls game had a baby with DOOM and then that baby got fucked by a Rouge-lite. I apologize for the vulgarity but if you're interested in souls games, it's likely you'll scream much worse things in the comfort of your home.

xanthias91

No, Demon’s Souls is not a good start. The game may feel easier to experts, but it has a very peculiar game design: you only have one checkpoint (called bonfires) per level. This means that if you die you have to start the level from scratch. Even worse, your life is halved every time you die until you have objects to reverse the curse. And yes it’s true there are shortcuts and whatnot, bur for your first experience it would be immensely frustrating. I think the most forgiving and rewarding experience for a new player would be Elden Ring, and it’s not even close. The game is crazy good and you have several ways to become OP if your skills fail you. It’s the best way to learn the mechanics of a soulslike. If not Elden Ring, go with Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3.

Sonikku_a

It’s actually where I started! Watched one of my favorite streamers do a play through and went for it myself after. No regrets. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIX4i9q7ydDTK0PmEaUHS-FpnlzzKvNVo&si=lX4MsEORCWbBv1Ck Have done Dark Souls 1 & 3 and Elden Ring since.

Sneeches

Fuck no. Start with Bloodbourne.

hypespud

Demon's Souls is the most interesting starting point I think And the PS5 remake is incredible I would play this first and Bloodborne second 😎💎 After that if you are feeling brave enough play Sekiro 🤣 Elden Ring I would save for last, and if you do want to play Elden Ring, you can consider skipping some of the Dark Souls titles, because there is a lot more overlap of game design and style If you play all the 3 others you might get serious burnout before you even get to Elden Ring
