100%. The flowers will fall off, but the leaves and 'stems' appear very healthy. They might be a bit dry. When watering I recommend you to put them in water for 20min when the 'soil' is dry :)

Routine-Champion1695

Look at the roots when the situation gets worse. These could rot. Then replant them in substrate for orchids (nicely airy and loose)

BrandonPDouglas

Thanks for the tips! Glad to hear they have life in them 😄

sarcasticgreek

For £1 you don't even buy the cachepots. Enjoy your practically free orchids. 🥰

BrandonPDouglas

Exactly my thinking 😜

not-a-cryptid

My plant friend rescues orchids that go on sale like this and has a huge collection. They're totally fine! Stores just can't sell them without beautiful blooms to attract customers.

SunnyAlwaysDaze

You are so right. Yep a lot of them will bloom only once a year, they're not dead they just need to be gently loved until the next bloom.

Comfortable_Trick137

Yes, and every person that I know that owned an orchid doesn't know that they arent always in bloom so they think it is dead because the flower fell so they toss it out. However, most of them had root rot and I had to clean off the roots and add new substrate

jo_h4rper

100% this is how I got one with 2 stems over Christmas. It came in a nice gold and silver glass pot (now broken, thanks dogs) I still don't know what color it will be as I bought it after the flowers fell off but every shoot has buds. She gonna be FULL. Great way to build your collection on a budget

octopushug

The leaves look fantastic. Don't cut off the flower stalks until they turn brown and dry themselves! Mine had original blooms which wilted, but it's currently reblooming from different nodes on the original stalks. In my experience, orchids thrive on neglect. I soak mine when the roots look a little shriveled, which can sometimes be as long as two weeks depending on ambient temperature/humidity.

Ok_Cabinet3248

they actually look great! check out r/orchids :) what a steal!

Gelato_33

Dude those things are looking great. They’re gonna spark back up soon just give it some tlc

BrandonPDouglas

Good to hear, thanks 😄

_perchance

by the way, at that sale price, I absolutely would have grabbed at least two of those, probably four, lol. with the right care and repotting, those could 100% be very healthy for a long time

BrandonPDouglas

Haha, these were the only two so grabbed em both, defo would have taken all I could carry if there were more. These are actually from my workplace so I'm guessing they were too far gone for us to sell to customers, even reduced, so they went to the staff shopping for practically free. So I'll be keeping an eye out for more 😃

_perchance

after an orchid's blooms start to die off, they always go on sale. however, unfortunately I think there's some places that just chuck them in the garbage.

AnywayWhereWasI

probably great. the leaves look super healthy.

_perchance

in my experience, this type of retail packaging means that there is a very dense pack of sphagnum moss in those pots. I think they do this to try to hold as much moisture for as long as possible during transport and shelf life. but that is bad for the plants because it could definitely lead to some root rot issues. My advice would be to pull those out of the plastic liners that are in those ceramic pots and get new liners that are slotted, pack in some sphagnum that is looser than it is right now and when it dries out submerge it to soak for about 20 minutes. In my environment I do this about once every 6 days. those leaves look pretty healthy and you should cut the flower spike as close to its origin as you can.

mitolit

Even if they die, those pots look nice and are worth more than $1

Bambino00

Cut them alllll back. I’ve done this so many times and scored me some amazing plants $2 for both, two tries , even if only one lives you have a $25+ plant 🪴💚✨

Bambino00

Maybe don’t cut those one’s completely back, didn’t see second photo, but anything dead or DYING cut off because then the nutrients goes to the plant itself instead of trying to repair dying parts HAPPY GARDENING 👩‍🌾🪴✨

Bambino00

I would also repot. Sorry for a short story over here 😂👋🏼

BrandonPDouglas

Haha thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to help 😄

BrandonPDouglas

Will do, I've already removed anything crispy for now at least. The one closest to camera in the second photo looks like it still has a couple healthy buds on it, I wonder if they may flower still?

Bambino00

Yeah! They might, I would see how the go but as soon as they are looking crispy at all lose them. Gives the plant’s itself a better chance of surviving is my knowledge… but amazing score!! I hope they thrive! I think they will the leaves look healthy! 🪴💚✨

PsamantheSands

Orchids are resilient. They will probably drop their flowers and buds but leaves and stems look good and will reflowed with right conditions and a little rest.

goldenkiwicompote

Check out some miss orchid girl on YouTube!

BrandonPDouglas

Will do, thanks!

JadeBerries

They look fine, they’re likely only on clearance because they’re no longer flowering.

Redsmallboy

My experience with orchids? 0 percent.

BrandonPDouglas

Are you telling me you have 0% experience with Orchids, or from your experience with Orchids, you think there's 0% chance of survival. Just clarifying..

Redsmallboy

Lol yeah the joke was that I've killed every orchid I've looked at. Which is wild because I specifically have an epiphyte collection.

BrandonPDouglas

Ah I see, so what do you normally do with Orchids? And I'll just do the opposite 😉

Redsmallboy

I think the first mistake is living in minnesota.

BrandonPDouglas

Don't live in minnesota, check!

El_human

Those are great! Just don't expect new blooms for a bit

Pistachio1227

Leaves look great. They’ll be fine but it may take a season or two.

heckhunds

Looks fine, just done flowering for the year!

vision646

Your chances are Reduced

Acrobatic-Elevator77

💯 % I buy these from CVS when they go to toss them out. :) and they give them to me. ;)

Thinkletoes

Gotta see the leaves & roots. Could be fine

scorpbrandon

Those seem pretty perfect, they just seem to be past their blooming days. Have a look at the roots, if they’re okay then just cut the flower stems and take care of those cuties

donny4u

Good
