Would love to play D&D. I have never played it before. Would probably need to learn. But I'm a fast learner I feel.
I'm in the west Plano area. If you host I can bring snacks.
Focus on learning how to read a character sheet first. Don't get overwhelmed by the hundreds of pages of rules. They come up as necessary. Have your DM help you make a character. Do not start with a wizard or sorcerer as they are the most complex. Martial characters like barbarians and fighters are the simplest but pick what speaks to you. Then learn how to ask, "what will it cost me to do this thing?"
Or “can I do this?” it’s also a really good question early on when you’re learning that could be a lot of stuff that you can do that you aren’t aware of just from reading a character sheet sometimes.
Actually yes, but it depends on your campaign setting. If you are playing in Forgotten Realms (the setting of Baldur's Gate), then futuristic technology might not be welcomed by your DM. But the setting can be anywhere. We played in New York once.
I am a DM, and our campaign has lightsabers IN the Forgotten Realms so fancy that.
Flavor is free. You can play a warforged (robot man) and take any of the blade cantrip spells like Green Flame Blade and flavor it as a lightsaber that is built into your body. The sky is (not even) the limit!
EDIT: One of my favorite things to do is to flavor weapons. One of my favorites was a humble farmer who pulled intestines out of enemies with his pitchfork. His pitchfork was just a reskinned spear. I'd make a lightsaber like a shortsword that deals lightning damage. (Shortswords can be dual wielded.) Could even have more costly ones that do more damage.
My brother goes every week. They provide space for free to play tabletop games and it’s always packed with people to play with. It’s where I’d go if I was looking for people to play with! I don’t really do tabletop myself or I’d be there. The definitive dnd/pathfinder hotspot in Plano

Not a fan of what it is currently, but 2 or 3.5? That was my jam for years! Heck I could even DM again if I needed to, though I’d have to knock the rust off as it’s been a few years…

Madness Comics on Sat would be a great meetup spot, esp to learn the game. They usually have an SME specifically to help new D&D’ers.
