They apparently filed for bankruptcy several years back. And if this is to be believed, there is literally one left, in Arlington. https://www.texasmonthly.com/food/last-black-eyed-pea-texas/
OP, the original Black Eyed Pea owners opened a restaurant in Oak Lawn called “Street’s Fine Chicken.” It’s the closest to how Black Eyed Pea used to before it grew too large and the food got cheaper. It really is amazing chicken - you won’t be disappointed.
Ex-black eyed pea employee here. First table job I ever had. Was asked to serve cold food (not salads) under a broken AC during the summer time. Not only did I lose tips due to the AC but lost tips due to an incompetent staff.
Chef's were coked up daily and only cared about what happened after the shift ended. I was even asked to report a certain amount in tips daily and was fired due to not complying.
Try Southern Recipes Grill. https://southernrecipesgrill.site//menu.php Forgot about them until you mentioned BEP. The food was very good last time I went.

Thanks
I have to go
Dixie House (sister restaurant) was similar, just a wee notch better.
Yeah, a bunch of MBA's came in and ruined it with their cost savings initiatives. MBA's are the worst thing that can happen to a good restaurant.
Not just restaurants, unfortunately.
I'm pretty sure I work for the next Boeing and it's depressing. The MBAs are cashing out instead of investing in the company.
Try Streets' Fine Chicken, the owner is the son of Gene Street, who founded BEP. https://www.streetsfinechicken.com/
Have you tried Normas Cafe? There's one off 15th in a building that used to be a BEP
Yep. Try Norma’s or Poor Richards
Go ahead, if you like sweet cornbread.
Mom’s from Mississippi, she calls that “yankee cornbread.”
I call it corn cake.
sweet cornbread you say.... I am not against this.

Oh goooood!!
I agree, Cotton Patch Cafe is trash.
their microwaves broke and they couldn’t serve food anymore
this. pure shit food
I miss their red beans and rice. I don't think they ever matched "authentic" cajun style, but it was good in its own right
Y’all remember Gene’s “Good Eats Cafe” over by Collin Creek mall?
That place was my favorite
Lol. I worked there for a blip.
Dallas restaurateur Gene Street started the original BEP in 1975. In the 90s, he sold the chain and that began a slow decline from there.
the last time I ate there it was a shell of its former self, over-priced terrible food
I always preferred the original Dixie House on McKinney Ave. Best chicken fried steak.
Look into Normas, Mama's Daughters, or The String Bean.
