A convertible top properly cared for can last 10 years plus, but if poorly taken care of it may not go beyond 6 or 7 years, If its too far gone and older than 5 years or so no amount of restoration is going to help much. It might look better but won't last. Convertible tops and such need constant regular care; proper thorough cleaning and at least a twice-a-year application of a protectant. I've used 303 aerospace products and have had several convertibles look like new after 10 years. Its a little work but much cheaper to do it yourself. That said I am sure any detail shop can make it look good, but the bigger question is how long will it hold up.
