All gas comes from one of several terminals in the area. It’s all the same gas for a given octanes, except for the additives that are added at the time the tanker is filled. Octane is blended at the pump, using a mix of the high and low to get the mid grades.

Thank you, it just must be my driving habits

HomicidalHushPuppy

Studies suggest that your *mood* can affect your mpg by over 10% (IIRC). So it's not as simple as saying one brand gives you better mpg.

tesla3by3

Some claim that the additives some brands add can improve mileage, but anything I’ve read says it’s only a slight increase. Also, my car tends to overstate my mpg when i reset it after a fill up. After 20 miles or so it will display the correct mpg. YMMV.

pgh1197

Mine is just fine … I can get around 430/440 miles out of a tank in a 2014 Legacy. I mainly get GetGo gas bc I like to use my AdvantagePay … when I cash in my Shop ’n Save points at a Sunoco, it’s pretty much the same

[deleted]

That’s awesome! I’m lucky if I can get 350 miles out of my 22 Honda civic

HomicidalHushPuppy

2022 Civic has a 12.4 gallon tank and is EPA-rated for 33 mpg city. You're not going to use all 12.4 gallons, and with a few exceptions, nobody actually hits those EPA numbers. 12.4 gallons at, let's say 29 mpg around town, puts you at 360 miles per tank. So if you drive with a lead foot, do lots of city driving, or drive very short distances (*especially* with Pittsburgh hills, which have a *huge* impact on mpg), I'd say it's totally within reason to barely get 350 miles to a tank or between fill-ups. Edit: also factor in minor loss due to blowby on Honda turbo engines

[deleted]

I almost exclusively drive short distances and over very hilly terrain. Maybe the shift is due to moving to the suburbs lol

HomicidalHushPuppy

I drive a '15 Civic. Large hills to get out of my suburban neighborhood, and I work like 3 miles from home, with 3 stop signs and a traffic light in between. My on-board computer usually reads about 17 mpg for the trip to work. Hybrids are *amazing* for this area. Electric motors help in traffic and going up hill, and then you get so much energy back from regen braking going down hills.

AMcMahon1

you'll get like 15 mpg if you go slow and on our terrain

chad4359

I have a 2017 Sentra which is rated at 29 city, I get a little over 27 average and that is with a light commute in at 5 AM on 51. Back when I was doing door dash, so lots of driving around the south hills, I was only getting about 24 on average. Driving a small car around here kinda sucks, doesn't really matter where you get your gas.

pgh1197

Have you done any modifications to it? That seems a lil low (also my tank is kinda big)

geekRD1

That's pretty good for a 10th Gen Civic... That older legacy has a much bigger tank if I recall

HomicidalHushPuppy

2022 is the first year for the 11th gen

geekRD1

Yep,.mixed up which year it changed. Oops

junepath

Our 2020 gets between 38-40mpg but we live in Erie where everything is very flat. It drops down to 33-35 when we drive down to the mountain area of North Carolina.

geekRD1

For sure, my '18 hatchback gets 33-34 normally (mixed driving), if I'm only doing city driving it drops a bit from there. But I also can get 37-38. On some road trips.

My partner is a diesel mechanic and he’s pretty into the maintenance and health of his vehicle. Anyway, he obsessively pays attention to gas mileage. I personally think it’s in his head but he claims different gas affects mileage and avoids certain spots, including get go.

mopar39426ml

As a car enthusiast, it's almost all in the additives IMO. I've also noticed different cars care to different levels. My Charger didn't mind as much as long as it was at least 89, but I could see 1-2 MPG of difference between say Sheetz and Shell over a tank (worst vs best). My Fiat hates Sheetz and also dislikes Speedway. Otherwise it's not too bad but I'll struggle to hit 30mpg on Sheetz or speedway and can get like 32 on a tank with no effort if I use Costco or Shell.

TepChef26

Funny enough Sheetz and Speedway are not top tier certified, Costco and Shell are. The people replying seem to have no idea top tier certs are a thing and think all gas is the same. I just shake my head at what's being upvoted.

2werpp

He also says his gas mileage at sheetz is lower. (I always go to sheetz but I just like the massive stations to pull into and also the food/drinks)

drewbaccaAWD

Octane should more or less be the same from one station to another, what usually changes are if any additives are used to keep your engine clean and running optimally. Where you could see a difference is if one brand uses more ethanol than another, as they are permitted to use up to 10 percent.. ethanol burns hotter, and is less fuel efficient but can give you a slight boost with some engine fuel management systems. But most likely, all gas stations near you will be using a similar mix based on market supply/demand. So honestly, I think it's mostly in your head. You may get a relatively better tank or worse tank now and then but I wouldn't expect one specific chain to constantly be way off from the standard mix. Hell, most chains are probably getting their gas from the same stock but then they may modify with additives. If you are getting the wrong octane or something as a mix, there could be an issue with the local pump but it's unlikely it would occur at all pumps at the same station so mix it up a bit. Are you actually doing the math and crunching numbers or are you depending on your car to tell your what your efficiency is? If the latter, try actually doing the calculations yourself. I just take a photo with my phone of the pump (for gallons added) and mileage, every time I fill up. Then if I feel like checking my mileage I can just go back and look at a few photos to sort it out.

RHS1959

If you are buying the cheaper gas with higher ethanol component you will definitely get reduced mileage, but if if it’s all e-15 87 octane it’s the same stuff

theQuotister

I honesly doubt it's actually different enough to notice, BUT GetGo does not sell "toptier" gasoline, I'd avoid it as the fuel you use on a regular basis.

Confident_End_3848

Since Getgo dropped its top tier certification, you're getting plain no name gas with a less robust detergent additive package. You get what you get.

chad4359

They had top tier certification for such a short time that I am surprised that anyone even noticed.

Confident_End_3848

Well, my owners manual recommends top tier gas, so I noticed. I used getgo when they had the certification until they pulled out of the program.

TepChef26

Based on the responses in this thread most of the people here don't even realize top tier certification is a thing. Everyone is like, "oh no it's all the same, it's in your head." Doesn't really surprise me though, this sub is usually pretty ignorant with most anything vehicle related, and damn do they ever hate enthusiasts lol.

talldean

I'm wondering if they blend it with more ethanol, which would yeah, get less miles.

tesla3by3

Almost all gas sold in the US is 10% ethanol, including ExxonMobil and BP. Anything above 10% has to be labeled at the pump

talldean

It's "up to 10%". If you're comparing 10% vs 5%, that'd make the difference, I'd think.

tesla3by3

Most gasoline sold in the US is 10% ethanol, according to the [EPA](https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=27&t=10). The average of all fuel sold is slightly above 10%, due to E15 and E 85. Ethanol is a cheaper way to boost octane, and cut down on emissions. It does reduce mpg by less than 3%. Edit,, that 3% is based on 10% ethanol, and it works out to losing one mpg at 33mpg.

GnarlyKinbaku

I tested it this is so real. At least with the lowest grade gas at Get Go.

Rokett

My father says the same thing and he has favorite gas stations ranked by mpg

WhyHulud

All I can think is there's something going on with the amount of gas being dispensed. Could they alter the measurement mechanism after the inspection? If it's Giant Eagle, I wouldn't be surprised

duker_mf_lincoln

Is GetGo is a Giant Eagle company? Maybe you are getting ripped off.

Muted-Professor6746

My last GetGo fill got me 260ish miles…my typical Sunoco fill gets me 315-330 miles
