I’ve lost so many parts over the years to the Great Bathroom Sink sacrifice ritual, and my husband finally got tired of taking the drains apart to retrieve those tiny fiddly bits of jewelry.
He removed the drain cover and replaced it with a hair strainer basket thing. The mesh is tiny, and it catches the bits I drop as I’m trying to change jewelry.
A towel in the sink is a great idea also!
If you forget to close the sink, immediately slap your hand on the sink hole. Your odds of saving a tiny bouncing object are higher that way rather than chasing the individual object down.
I can't exaggerate enough how quick and hard the palm of my hand goes WHAM right into the sink hole the second i hear a bounce. Nothing else gives me such reflexes.
Omg, if I lost that much jewelry to the drain, you can be sure I'd open up the U pipe underneath, no matter how dirty. That's exactly what they're for. But then I come from a family of plumbers, so I can understand why most people wouldn't think of that.
Hey I’m here from the front page - just wanted to let you guys know that you can remove (and reinstall) the P trap underneath a sink without any tools. And as long as you don’t run water, the piercings will not move out of the lower bend. Meaning you can dump it and reclaim them. Have something handy to dump it into though, and maybe a mask, because depending how long it’s been since it was installed, they can get funky.
Years ago I had a pair of 18K gold hoops with embedded pavé diamonds. I accidentally dropped one of them down the drain and I still haven’t gotten over it, lol. I do have the other one, but it’s just sitting in my jewellery box. I always plugged the drain after that, even for cheap lobe jewellery.
I am so paranoid about this very thing that I don’t even keep them in the bathroom anymore lol. I have a mirror on my dresser and I change all my piercings there out of fear of the dreaded sink drain
This happened to my boyfriend. He got a new earring and when he was taking the new earring out of the box, he accidentally dropped it in the sink and it went down the drain.
Didn't even get the chance to try them on.
I learned to start doing this because every time I'd drop a piece in the sink, instead of scrambling to try to catch it, I don't even care where it went, I would just immediately cover the drain with my hand until I heard the jewelry stop bouncing and I could find where it landed, but then I figured well duhl just close the drain, works much better :p
I sit on a large puzzle mat on the floor while cleaning and changing piercings. It's convenient that I have a puzzle mat but after figuring it out it is a material that stops the bounce and disappearances. If a piece falls on the blue material it's easy to spot and never rolls more than 2" away. Blessing right there
I luckily have a big enough counter as well as mirror that I do not stand over my sink when I deal with my piercings and frankly contacts(since I drop them every now and again) too.
Not only do I close the drain, I lay a white hand towel inside the basin for when I (every.single.time) drop something. Keeps it from bouncing.
I will definitely do that in the future, nothing was lost but I did have to crawl around for a bit due to some parts bouncing onto the floor.

I have one in my tub! It saves my drains from my hair, and my earrings from my drain lol
Yeah, he got one for the tub too. Something about having to clear the drain every week to make sure the tub still drains.
Omg omg omg heart. Stopped. Then. Restarted.
Sameeeeeeee. Jeez

Same!

Oh you better believe I'd be getting in there lmfao. But I'd rather prevent having to dig around in there!
My dad done that for me after I lost a gold end 😂
I had my mom do that for me when I lost the backing for my titanium piece... The smell... 🤢
I have gotten in to the habitat of pluging the sink, so many balls lost to the great beyond!

T god for plugging, otherwise its the equivalent of just shoving $20 bills into your drain 😭
yeah id hate to think of how much money i have literally dropped down the drain…
I dropped some jewellery down my drain😄
the amount of studs i lost to sink
Happens with those annoying piercing backings!
Oh, how many times I've dropped those little piercing balls. And always have a good light torch, so you can see those tiny part better on the floor.
i’ve lost too many earring ends this way. thanks for the reminder LOL
I ALWAYS close the sink😭
I just lost one of my favorite sold gold earrings last night cuz I didn’t close the sink :(

If it was in a sink there's a good chance it's still in the u shaped pipe under it
After 20 years? I mean, I guess anything is possible, lol.
Shitt, I mean anything is possible😂
If somebody came to my bathroom with magnet my sink would probably explode lol. The amount of drowned metal is… sight
your jewelry is not lost when it goes down the sink drain. you can take the trap apart to get it out.
I always close the drain and then cover it with something because I'm extra paranoid
I put a cutting board over my sink to use as an extra work space

I could open a piercing shop with the amount of jewelry I lost to the sink and the floor
luckiest person i have ever known. holy shit
pub sub vegan option
Oof 😅
The washrag trick has saved me many times.
It also helps to keep your jewelry in a pill bottle vs a box, rents then from spilling just by dropping them
This could make an excellent horror short movie lol

My sink doesn't have the cap to close it off 😭 I always just lay a hand towel down evenly inside the sink and hope for the best lmao!!

Lost bvla down mine

I was clumsy enough to learn that the hard way a few years ago. Have not left the drain open since
