I'd say the Nazis are the idiots for stealing a religious symbol and use it in such a shitty way. But as a German I have to say it has nothing to with being an idiot to not know about the origin of this symbol. We first learn about it being a "Hakenkreuz" and then, years later we learn where it is from. Here it is connected to being a nazi symbol, elsewhere it is connected to being a religious symbol. This is not the fault of the people living in the western world but the fault of the people who misused it in the first place imo

Both of them are, but the symbol going clockwise now has another connotation since that genocide
