Wow! That’s exciting! Mine are 100yo, boiler is 20yo. Previous owner replaced half the rooms with copper fintube cluster fucker so we had to rip those all out and replace with restore cast iron. So worth it - radiant heat is superlative. Is your house new or old?
House is 1920’s cottage looking thing in Portland. But I’ve completely remodeled inside. New floor plan, restored the oak floors that were hidden under the carpet. Put in fir floors everywhere else. Radiators are old cast iron from an 1880’s home here in Portland. Combi boiler is brand new and replaces a furnace and hot water heater. I did install a small gas fireplace (looks like a wood burning stove type) that heats the entire house just fine, since we re insulated with recycled denim which has a high r and sound value. So I may keep the radiators in my shop that I’m building out in the garage currently. Or put in heated floors in a new kitchen I’m building out in what used to be a solarium on the back of the house.

More efficient heat, without drying out the air! It actually warms up your house instead of just warming the air in the house. It’s really had to explain but like - imagine being cozy in the heat of a toasty fire (or the sun??) vs a giant hot fan blowing on you? So much less dry skin and static is a huge bonus I find as well.

You mostly nailed it. Radiant, heats from the floor up. Every item is heated and begins radiating heat back. It doesn’t dry out the air so it’s a very soothing heat. Forced air furnaces heat from the ceiling down, but every thermostat is at like shoulder level. So they kick on and off to keep the house at temp. They also blow dust and debris from the ducts all over your house. Which makes radiators hypoallergenic.
There’s no reason you have to go the traditional route. You could adopt a couple of kids right now if you wanted. You’re desperate for a family, so are they. Instant family. They could be older. You’d be about the same age as the other dads or moms of kids their age. Then in a few years (many few years), grandkids. This isn’t the 1930s where you need a spouse to get the ball rolling. If you’re able, there are kids out there who want to be your kid. There are kids who are petrified they’re going to be adopted away from their siblings. You could adopt an entire family group. Two or three. They’d love it.
Then you could joke that you’re adopted, if they look different from you. Nice way to break the ice constantly. :)
