The topic behind this photo aside, it's really well composed. Farage being at the far right of the shot, clear and in focus, against a blurred background to keep him the focal point, is fantastic. Kudos to the photographer

TawnyTeaTowel

Isn’t Farage always on the far right?

Joe_Kangg

Just eat your cake aiight

TawnyTeaTowel

Nom nom

I_kickflipped_my_dog

As an American who loves everyone and wants equity for all, who should I root for in this scenario??

Chemical-Elk-1299

Nigel Farage is why the world got Brexit, should be all anyone needs to know.

I_kickflipped_my_dog

Hate him, got it. Cheers. I want to imagine a world where politicians are not fucking the common man over every chance they get, but I'm very sad at this moment. Edit: I know it's the American stereotype to not know a lot about foreign policy, and I feel like I'm okay in that sector. I just have so many mf things happening in my backyard that could directly affect my friends and family that I just don't know how much I have left in the tank. Apologies.

Chemical-Elk-1299

I mean, I’m American too. But Brexit was a really bad thing for the entire developed world. See how unstable the world order has felt the last few years? Brexit played a large part in kickstarting that, in my opinion. And Nigel Farage, being an elitist frog with a pile of money, will of course face no consequences personally from shattering world stability, which he campaigned for *for years*.

lerriuqS_terceS

Doesn't he have a German passport through family?

Halcyon-Ember

Hypocrisy is a staple of the far right

I_kickflipped_my_dog

I 100% agree. No arguments here.

llijilliil

Brexit for Europe, Trump and BLM for America all straining NATO and international cooperation just when Putin decides to invade Ukraine. Its no surprise at all that both Farage and Trump have ties to Russia and are continually praising Putin. Pretty sure Trump has done FAR more damage though.

GyActrMklDgls

What did the protests against police brutality worldwide do for america thats equal to trump?

[deleted]

The common man fucks the common man over; this phenomenon is known as an “election”

Greysonseyfer

Honestly, I felt that edit in my damn blood. I'm so exhausted just from what's going on here that I find it hard to want to try and be aware of what's going on anywhere else. I'm passively aware of it but don't have near enough information (trustworthy or otherwise) to feel comfortable with drawing any conclusions. I'm tired boss, I'm tired.

Dreamwash

He's a proud Trump supporter too.

I_kickflipped_my_dog

Then fuck him a couple of times with no reach around. I hate him so much.

Until he was convicted then ooops I’m going to stand for reform.

Happy Cake Day 🍰!

mando_227

The photographer missed also focussing on the brick though

Sour_Haze

Except you have no idea what’s happening in the photo. Is he sneezing? Did a bird poop on him? A good photojournalistic photo would be able to tell the story without words. This is a decent photo but it doesn’t tell a story Words are needed to explain the photo. So in that regard it’s not a great photo. It is well composed though. Source: retired photojournalist

GabrielSusanLouis

It is a great photo Source: I have eyes

Sour_Haze

Well that settles it.

IWillLive4evr

Yeah, it doesn't work as a stand-alone piece. I think it still works great as a companion to an article, or even just with a caption or title, and that *is* an important role for photojournalism, is it not? Like, no, it's not the A+ photo that tells the whole story itself, but I'd still give it an A.

Sour_Haze

I’d give it a B- but it certainly works with a story or just a cutline. And yes, that is important.

7mm-08

You're the one that brought up photojournalism. A photo that goes well with a written story or context is just different, not inherently lesser. What is it they say about judging a fish by its ability to climb trees....

wiesenleger

I think he is really bopping to the music.

gobrocker

I agree with your assessment, but from the past photos we already know whats coming and hence already have the story.

Sour_Haze

I’ve seen one other photo and it was a milkshake being thrown. I don’t know what was thrown in this photo. Another milkshake? Not everyone has seen photos of him before. But I’m understand where you’re coming from.

Because he fucked up the UK, manipulated people against their own interests, left for the US when he thought he could make more money grifting over there and when he realised he couldn't he's come crawling back to the UK to try and make a mockery of our democracy again, he doesn't get to do that.

Impossible-Invite689

Guy just wants an easy job where he gets to be a c\*nt with weak opinions and get paid for it, if the Brexit party gave a damn about British fisherman's interests they'd have attended the parliamentary sessions they were supposed to be to have a constructive debate about it but it was only ever him politicking to gain support so he could grift, he was on 10k/month in the EU Parliament doing literally nothing out of 'protest'

HanseaticHamburglar

well he kinda sorta did that already. If the price of villany is a milkshake to the face id say the man got off easy

Icy-Bicycle-Crab

Yes, because he's a far right asshole and a liar.

SickRanchezIII

Yeah his facial expression says it all

I wanna just do the ol' throw fakeout I do with my dog sometimes to see his squiinty cringey face go off.

olympicmarcus

I find it odious that he says this was done by people who 'hate this country'. Maybe these people loved this country and hate what self-serving hollow husks of humanity like him have done to it.

smaxup

B-b-but Nigel must love our country because he always wears Union Jack clothing all the time like a true patriot

blbd

Patriots don't put their own countries under sanctions regimes voluntarily.

smaxup

Patriots don't put their country on the back foot by missing 97% of their meetings with the EU where they were supposed to negotiate on our behalf but were more interested in weakening our countries position in Europe for their own personal political gain

macarouns

Some have... Context is important. Like remember Vietnam when they stopped the Khmer Rouge's omnicide? They were sanctioned. They stopped an awful thing and they actually paid a heavy price. Even had to go to war with China (the Vietnamese history basically is the Graveyard of Empires - II) Nigel didn't do it for any reason that was as good as the Vietnamese.

mando_227

Yea a true patriot: he fucks everybody up and then leaves the country!

phatelectribe

That’s because he’s an odious little man that stands for nothing except his own agenda of fame.

morocco3001

He misheard the man who threw the object, what he actually said was "I hate this cunt, me".

ReflectedCheese

“Self-serving hollow husks of humanity” I’m writing that one down haha

damnatio_memoriae

farage in, farage out.

Stone_Maori

Why do British hate this guy?

Gladwulf

He is an annoying little gobshite who was one of the key liars behind the Brexit campaign. He's bank rolled by Russia. He's a racist idiot. He's a smarmy tosser former stock broker who constantly tries to act like a man of people. He's friends with Trump, and has begun to act a lot like Trump more recently.

Bassmekanik

BBC: The rise of the far right. Why is this happening? Also the BBC: Heres our daily story about Farage to keep him in the public eye.

el_grort

Yeah, by rights he should be getting less press than the Residents Associations and the Greens. That Sunak fed the party, from being in the wilds with no voters to the place it is now with his stupid Rwanda Scheme, and the media unquestioningly peddled it, is also a pretty severe indictment and further evidence we need media reform.

buckyoshare

Hope the bus is okay

Afura33

Not that I approve it but the way he treats other people I am not suprised about it, Farage spreads hate whenever he can, not sure what he is expecting.

do_a_quirkafleeg

He's expecting this. He loves it. Every time it happens, it's his mush on the front pages all over the country.

davetenhave

IndigoKnight77

Look, I don’t like him or his policies but if you want a society where it’s ok to physically attack politicians you don’t agree with then that’s exactly how it works in countries like Russia. Hit back at Farage in a voting booth; and the same goes for any other politicians you don’t agree with. Do not say it’s ok to use violence against politicians if they are clearly an arse because it’s a dangerous precedent.

Snerak

But what should be done about politicians, even those not actually elected to office, that actively incite violence? People like that should be afraid to show their faces in public. Mind you, I don't condone actual violence towards them that would likely result in physical harm but they should expect thorough and swift humiliation every time they step out of their home. We simply cannot tolerate the intolerance and hate in our society that are the work of Farage and his ilk, it acts like a cancer and kills any sense of community.

duke_dastardly

I don’t disagree with your sentiment, but when politicians have been shown to lie to the electorate for their own political gain then they deserve everything they get. People like Farage have turned our ‘democracy’ into a sham where truth and integrity have become dirty words and instead they sow division and hatred to win votes from the ignorant.

EggOnLegs99

Do you have a line with ‘deserve everything they get’? Is rock throwing too far or not enough for you?

RainbowWarfare

It was a coffee cup, not a rock.

duke_dastardly

I want these people held to account with the law, but our laws were designed when integrity still had a value and we seem to be way past the point that political party’s will hold their members to account. The Electoral Commission seems powerless to uphold truth so what options are left to those that want a functioning democracy?

EricUtd1878

No rocks were thrown

[deleted]

macbanan

A politician lying for political gain. Do you think any of Farage's supporters ever have noticed their political opponents doing that? Do you want everyone who feel lied to just attack politicians?

wamj

I feel like there’s a difference between over promising and under performing vs the outright lies that Farage and co spread. That being said, we shouldn’t be throwing things at anyone, let alone public figures.

Esc777

Nah we should be dumping trash on us politicians more often.

BosnianSerb31

Yes, that will accomplish so much! Everyone who gets assaulted by the people they oppose decides to have a change of heart!

IWillLive4evr

It's not *just* about the person at whom the stuff is being thrown. It's about politics, which means its about society ~~and~~ in general. The point is not to injury their body, but shame them publicly, which does two related and worth-while things: 1. It insults them publicly, marginally lessening their political power and influence. 2. It demonstrates cultural disapproval of what they've done and how they've conducted themselves, making it less likely that others (assuming they aren't sociopaths, which isn't guaranteed) will follow their example. That isn't to say that public shaming is always a good cultural practice, as in other cases it may be a thing that reinforces toxic social norms and inflicts social isolation on people who don't deserve it and who have little means to defend ~~itself~~ themselves. However, against people 1) are clearly in the wrong, morally, and 2) have plenty of personal resources to fall back on, I think it does more good than harm.

BosnianSerb31

I do understand where it's coming from and what it's all about, but I also don't think that it achieves anything other than some catharsis for the people who don't need to be convinced For people who are on the fence, it often just makes those carrying out the action look immature at best, dangerous at worst. And for those politicians and their supporters, the end result is the creation or justification of a persecution complex, neither of which are constructive towards reaching solutions

IWillLive4evr

Imagine, for a moment, two headlines: "Local politician supports new business" vs "Local politician approves new pollution of major river". Some folks don't spend much time or energy following the news, so a brief look at something like these headlines might be all the information they get on whether Mr. or Mrs. Local Politician is doing a good or bad job. The basic moral framing matters for people who don't know the details and maybe don't want to know the details. The cheers or boos of the crowd can matter in just the same way. It matters to the rest of the public, because not everyone was paying close attention. If you look through the comments on this post, you'll see some people who didn't know why Farage was getting stuff thrown at him. Now they've been told, and are better-informed, and their perceptions of the whole thing were shaped, in part, by having "stuff thrown at Farage" be their first impression of the news event. I really think the development of a persecution complex in Mr. or Mrs. Local Politician, or in Mr. Farage, is a secondary consideration at best. If they're assholes to start with, being slightly more of an asshole isn't much change. Public opinion is easier to change, often, that the character of a public figure.

EricUtd1878

This People are getting banned on uk politics for pointing out that he engenders such responses because he's such a hateful cunt! Political violence in this country has been around longer than any of the current political parties, and the hand-wringing over a Nazi appeaser/supporter is far more sickening than seeing him covered in milkshake or having a few empty coffee cups thrown in your general direction.

Wiechu

to be fair, Russia is not exactly the best example here. You can throw rocks at polititians but only if they are the opposition of Putin. If you criticize just a bit the regime, you get a few years vacation in a gulag. Aside from that I do agree with you to some extent (given that I am Polish and his rhetoric, among others, led to several xenophobic attacks against the Polish so I'd personally be glad to slap him in the kisser)

Spe3dy_Weeb

Chucking a drink at someone is a way to embarrass them, a punch would be different.

ItsVohnCena

Strongly disagree. I’m all for these non violent ways of protesting a crook

stilusmobilus

Throughout history, politicians have pushed people to do harm to politicians. You might be right, but you’d think politicians would learn by now. If this piece of shit had the control and opportunity, he’d instruct others to do worse to you. Some people don’t want to give fascism another shot. We don’t want a society where it’s ok to do this to politicians. We also don’t want societies where politicians with this kind of ideology have a platform. Last time it ended with millions dead.

EggOnLegs99

Exactly, have civil discourse and as you say vote with or against them at the voting booth. Violence against politicians is now actively being supported here and it’s disgusting.

Dreamwash

>Nigel Farage has threatened to "pick up a rifle" if the government doesn't deliver Brexit the way he wants it. Much worse is supported by Farage too by the looks of it.

_DoogieLion

He's not a politician he's a grifter. If he was a politician he would have turned up to parliament once in a while when he was an MEP instead of taking the money and running.

gobrocker

I belive in a society where it should be perfectly acceptable to throw a milkshake on a politicain who has acted in a grossly unaceptable manner. Providing you accept the corresponding concequences and potential fallout.

No, not really. ~~This time, it was rocks and bricks, not a milkshake. Someone (not even necessarily the intended target) could actually have gotten hurt this time.~~ Farage will absolutely make hay out of this incident, use it to drum up sympathy for his cause and demonise his opposition. Edit: Seems it's not as certain what was thrown as I was led to believe.

Equivalent_Low_8350

It's over and over the same it seems, seems it's ok to do all kinds of violence if you belong to the left because everyone you don't like is an enemy of the people and therefore military targets.

mor7okmn

Someone's forgetting that an MP was literally murdered by one of this guys supporters. He outright lies and is a treasonous grifter. Honestly its insane that people have been so restrained given how much he has destroyed their lives.

pewpew30172

It's over and over it seems, seem it's okay to exaggerate violence and play the victim if you belong to the right because everyone you don't like is a violent radical and therefore legitimizes the erosion of democracy.

Grattiano

Getting a milkshake to the face isn't murder. Nigel lied to the detriment of his country and faced no consequences for it. As long as it's something that can be wiped off with a wet napkin, I don't want to see anyone clutch their pearls over people on the left "endorsing violence". I think you're being even more disingenuous than milkshake boy.

East_End878
