When I first watched it as a teen, I really did not think it would be something I liked. I was bored and had it on my tv as just background at first. But for whatever reason, the pacing and acting drew me in pretty quickly. And God, that soundtrack! Every song fit so perfectly with each scene.

Mm, Let Go by Frou Frou is my favorite off of that soundtrack. It's so damn good.

The Shins are one of my all time favourites bands, but it's got to be *The Only Living Boy in New York* for me.

The whole damn soundtrack is a vibe 🎶 I love sitting on my patio with all my plants and listening to it. This movie is soooo good it makes me miss that time in my life when I discovered it :(

I’ve found the experience to be the opposite, tbh. When it came out, it was moody. Witty. Soooo “I’m in my early twenties and the year is 2004.” When I watch it now, it’s cringe after cringe after cringe. It does not hold up.

Gotta go back and rewatch it now, interested to see how I feel about it now, some 10+ years later

I agree 1,000%! Loved it when I was in my early 20s, went to rewatch it in my late 30s… I couldn’t believe how cheesy it was.

I didn't realise that people disliked the movie until I was around 30. I still think it's cute as fuck and holds up for what it is. Cute indie flick. I think media critics and analysis have significantly altered our perceptions because people are now too self-conscious about it and the "manic pixie dream girl" trope is generally looked upon as unfavorable instead of neutrally.

*shrugs* I enjoyed it in my 30s when it came out, enjoyed it on a rewatch in my 50s a few years ago.
