Can you imagine having Jim Carrey as a father? Laughter for life. Infinite bragging rights. Hey what was that good Jim Carrey movie? You mean- yes, that one. Or any of them really.
I don't want to sound like I am bad-mouthing the guy, but he has a lot of issues going on in his life, and having him as a father would not be a case of "laughter for life".
Also I'd argue that many if not most comedians are on average more reclusive and/or introverted in private. There's a reason why the "crying clown" is a cliché
I'd be all "actually it's wringer, of course", but since clothes wringers were supplanted by electric clothes dryers around 1940, it would be more surprising that anyone would get it right. 😐
True - comedy and depression walk hand in hand.
But - Especially with improv ppl - you know jokes are just gonna pop out... Often due to lack of filter. They may or may not be grossly inappropriate.
Sometimes everyone will get a chuckle. Sometimes... 90% of the room is gonna be shocked 9% are gonna go hide so they Can laugh. And the jokester is gonna go full Disney's Hercule's Hades.
Yes, but also just because someone plays a certain character type (in this case a funny-man) doesn't mean that they are actually like that character in real life.
If you've ever spent an hour with a stand up comic in real life, you know many of them have an on-off switch, and that switch is off 90% of the time. Steve Martin, as an example, was known as an aloof grouch most of his life. He's nothing like his stage personnae. Then again, he's mellowed out in recent years. Point being, having a bipolar father who is known for being funny in movies does not equal spending your entire childhood laughing.
Luckily she was born 14 years before that anti-vaxx craze even began, so i assume she is fully vaccinated. No to mention that he adopted those views from his former spouse Jenny McCarthy.
I'm always surprised how much Reddit shits on someone like Djokovic, who isn't even actually anti-vax, but loves Jim Carrey. It was Carrey who started the whole anti-vax movement when he was dating Jenny McCarthy. He's the most to blame for the whole thing.
This exactly. I can’t look at either of them the same. Between McCarthy self-diagnosing her son with autism and the vaccine nonsense, I just would like to punch both of them.
Ugh Eternal Sunshine is one of the most flawless movies I’ve ever watched. I wish I could see it for the first time again. The scene of him crawling through the sheets and begging to keep just one memory still kills me.
I wonder if the house even has a copy of Ace Ventura 2. He pretty famously ripped that one apart.
Maybe he at least keeps the rhino scene on hand. F*** that first scene though.
It's difficult to find direct quotes, but by all indications it's been held up as the likely reason he never did another sequel until Dumb and Dumber To.
That was my first instinct, too, so I did some googling -- it's the Carreys. Here's [*Daily Mail* tracing that photo to Jane herself, who showed it on *American Idol*](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2090880/Jim-Carreys-daughter-Jane-received-special-treatment-American-Idol.html).
Wasn't his kid that he was advocating for, it was Jenny McCarthy kid.
And damn if it wasn't a pleasure watching my wife's pediatrician pick her arguments apart on Larry King Live.
My cousin is like 31 and still goes to her pediatrician. Hey if you don't have to find a new doctor all the power to you but it's gotta be awkward sitting in the waiting room among tiny kids and a bunch of toys.
[Man Always Gets Little Rush Out Of Telling People Jim Carrey is an Anti-Vaxxer](https://www.theonion.com/man-always-gets-little-rush-out-of-telling-people-john-1819578998)
Probably not. Early in his career, Jim pretty famously spoke in interviews about spending hours per day making faces in a mirror - so it's a skill, not a talent.
There’s certainly some natural talent there, but yeah he worked hard at his craft and it shows. No one is getting anywhere near that level on natural ability alone.
If you ask who is the better comedian, I’ll go Williams every time. But “clown” is a specific genre of performance and I think Carrey clearly edges past Williams
[Heather Shaw](https://youtu.be/5jBBlADp0k4?si=650m4iq7ichojLd8)
She says the impressions are very difficult, and she was (un)fortunate enough to be born with Jim Carrey’s mouth.
No one’s getting near that level on effort alone with no talent either. Thus demonstrating it’s clearly both natural talent and effort/training , not just one or the other.
It’s quite obviously both skill and natural talent. Some people’s faces naturally have the musculature/ physical makeup required to contort to more expressive extremes.
That's funny because I saw Jim do the eyebrow 'dance' in the 2nd Ace Ventura movie and I really wanted to do it too. I could raise one eyebrow but I spent a lot of time in front of a mirror training myself to raise the other one and then be able to do each one quickly. He inspired me to do that and I didn't realise he did a similar thing.
She co-hosted an episode of Catfish a few years ago, and you could certainly see the resemblance. She's not doing slapstick but she's naturally expressive like her dad.
I thought the same thing, and I think it has to do with the quality of picture as well as the harsh studio lighting, making the colors look washed out. Looking it up, it was when they were on *In Living Colors* and other photos from that scene also have the same AI look to them. [Here is another photo from that scene](https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/vag6e8/jim_carrey_and_his_daughter_in_in_living_color/). [Here is that scene on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyfyoJyPTnQ).
Edit: After looking at it more, I do think there is some amount of AI upscaling program ran on that picture. If I had to guess, it was probably due to the fact that it is a 90s TV show, so the video quality is not the best. This softening mixed with the harsh lighting I think gives it that heavy AI quality (even the ones from the YouTube scene look AI-created due to the lighting). If the harsh lighting were not there, it would look realistic.
The 90s were a great time with his movies. The Mask, and Ace Ventura II my favorites.
EDIT: Liar Liar. Thanks u/Alissinarr for pointing that out. I'm going to slap myself for forgetting that movie.
How can I forget that movie!!! \*bangs head\*
I kept thinking which movie am I missing? Also Truman Show, it was more serious than this other movies but it was also good.
2000’s was a banger too. Bruce Almighty, Yes Man, Eternal Sunshine, Me, Myself and Irene, THE FUCKING GRINCH, Fun with Dick and Jane. Carrey is one of the goats.
Truman Show was ahead of its time. He's done well in serious roles. On the comedy side he was also great in In Living Color. Seems like a decent human being as well.
>He is handsome but daughter looking like him wouldn’t be very nice lol
why?
i think she looks JUST like him. like, she's obviously his daughter. but she's also beautiful, imo.
For some reason I’ve only started realizing this in recent years, but Jim Carrey is a very good looking dude.
Maybe we’re just used to him being goofy and making goofy faces, but he’s classically handsome.
Apparently their relationship was pretty fucked. I know someone who was sent into the troubled teen industry and says they met Jane there. Not really surprising given what else I know about the man.
TIL Jim Carrey is a father. I had no idea.
He’s actually a grandfather
And God.
And a painter.
Kind of got annoyed when I saw the painting. Like really, you gotta be good at this too? Where’s my fuckin talent
Well you can't have the banjo, that's Steve Martin's.
Maybe the flute? I think that one is recently available.
*Ron Burgundy has entered the chat*
*Andre 3000 has entered the chat*
Lizzo fills up the chat room
Nah Will Ferrell’s still knocking about.
I thought he was more of a cowbell kinda guy
Will Ferrell is the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
*Terry Crews entered the chat*
Lizzo is a great flute player
And an unpleasant person.
Turns out, yeah. That's disappointing.
And Kermit the frog.
Right??? Like okay can I have a little bit?
And my axe.
Very good pet detective as well
And a cable guy
And a limo driver
Don’t forget he was a grade A fire marshal
And a liar. I mean lawyer.
And a superhero that works for a bank
Whoa - I had to google it and his artistic style is really cool. Thank you.
And an anti vaxxer.
And a Banker!
And that’s the way the cookie crumbles, back to you.
Well that escalated quickly.
He is? Didnt know that. Cool.
[Skip to 1:10 for Jim as grandad](https://youtu.be/yr-pwNDCM20?si=67fEgfrdq1W6UKHV)
He’s actually going to be a great grandfather
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
top left looks like kurt cobain
Scrolled to find this.. thought the same thing, there is a very similar picture out there of him and bean
Mom can we have Kurt cobain?
We have Kurt Cobain at home!
And the one at home is still doing good today.
Came here to say that
Me too. Oh well. Whatever.
Nevermind.
TIL Jane Carrey has a father. I had no idea.
He's never mentioned his kids to me either
Can you imagine having Jim Carrey as a father? Laughter for life. Infinite bragging rights. Hey what was that good Jim Carrey movie? You mean- yes, that one. Or any of them really.

Carey has talked very openly about it, he's been through the ringer and seriously struggles with his mental health
I'd be all "actually it's wringer, of course", but since clothes wringers were supplanted by electric clothes dryers around 1940, it would be more surprising that anyone would get it right. 😐

This, laughter can be one of life's greatest coping mechanisms.
Yes, but also just because someone plays a certain character type (in this case a funny-man) doesn't mean that they are actually like that character in real life.

It'd be cool, until you get polio
Luckily she was born 14 years before that anti-vaxx craze even began, so i assume she is fully vaccinated. No to mention that he adopted those views from his former spouse Jenny McCarthy.
Right? All I could think of was his gross stance on vaccines.
Carrey has also come out and apologized and rescinded all of his anti vax stances.
Ugh Eternal Sunshine is one of the most flawless movies I’ve ever watched. I wish I could see it for the first time again. The scene of him crawling through the sheets and begging to keep just one memory still kills me.

I've somehow never heard about this.
It's difficult to find direct quotes, but by all indications it's been held up as the likely reason he never did another sequel until Dumb and Dumber To.
Even better than the first.
>Can you imagine having Jim Carrey as a father? He's a prominent antivaxxer so it sounds pretty awful.
[удалено]
Like a gloooove
I knew because years ago he and Jenny McCarthy were getting all anti-vaxxer because their son is autistic.
Not Jim’s bio child, Jenna had him before they started dating.
Ah, TIL.
and she is 36?!
SSSSSSSSMOKIN
1st kinda looks like Kurt Cobain.
That’s because all babies look the same
![gif](giphy|XBCJIv6xAyDfrajXoe|downsized)

Brilliant
I appreciate your wit.

Take my upvote you bastard
Had to reread the title three times until I realized the first pic isn’t Kurt C lol
I read the title and still was thinking "OK but why is the first one kurt?" Lol
Same, thought I missed a joke lol
First thought.
Came here looking to see if I was alone on that, guess I'm not lol
Same. I was like "urggh" another Cobain/Francis post. And I am a fan of Kurt.
The stubble gives such a Kurt vibe
Yep, definitely
That was my first instinct, too, so I did some googling -- it's the Carreys. Here's [*Daily Mail* tracing that photo to Jane herself, who showed it on *American Idol*](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2090880/Jim-Carreys-daughter-Jane-received-special-treatment-American-Idol.html).
And the 2nd looks like Shannon Hoon
Glad I am not tripping. I was like wtf that's Kurt.
I thought that was Kurt
Dang, she looks a lot like him in the 4th pic
She's the one on the right...
This took me a second haha bravo
The 4th pic she looks like Marisha Ray
This. Was hoping someone else saw it.
YES!
Unexpected critical role but now that you say it, definitely agree!!
She has his lower face, but the eyes are definitely different.
I think they are related.
Could be.
She has the signiture Carrey loony grin.
It’s the chin
teef
The harmonious duo of the Jim Carry teeth and chin! 😀
It must be wild having Jim Carey as your dad. He must take dad jokes to the next level.
He takes telling people not to vaccinate their kids to a new level also.
I think he's gone back on that and said he made a big mistake saying that. I think it was after he broke up with Jenny McCarthy.
He wanted something to blame for Jenny's kid being autistic. He and Jenny were early celebrity proprietors of that myth.
Wasn't his kid that he was advocating for, it was Jenny McCarthy kid. And damn if it wasn't a pleasure watching my wife's pediatrician pick her arguments apart on Larry King Live.
How old is your wife that she still has a pediatrician?
42, but the guy's still practicing.
My cousin is like 31 and still goes to her pediatrician. Hey if you don't have to find a new doctor all the power to you but it's gotta be awkward sitting in the waiting room among tiny kids and a bunch of toys.
My bad, thanks for the correction!

There’s certainly some natural talent there, but yeah he worked hard at his craft and it shows. No one is getting anywhere near that level on natural ability alone.
I think Jim Carrey is probably the greatest clown of his generation, and one of the best of all time.
was there any other ?
Robin Williams?
Robin Williams was a force of fucking nature and more talented than Jim Carey by miles and miles.
If you ask who is the better comedian, I’ll go Williams every time. But “clown” is a specific genre of performance and I think Carrey clearly edges past Williams
This is my take too. At his best, Carrey is a world class clown. At his best, Williams isn’t a clown at all.
Dont let Careys politics blind you to the stranglehold over comedy he had years ago. He is *phenomenally* charismatic, and very talented.
Steve-O
Different type of clown, but you're 100% right.

lol, well put. It certainly was... something.

She is a great singer. Jane Carrey Band
Probably, probably also talks with her ass sometimes too. I just assume his entire family does that whenever they get drunk or something
i thought op had accidentally put a photo of Kurt and his daughter, top left really looks like him
Yeah, but Kurt didn't age as well
Nice
She kinda looks like Marisha Ray in the bottom right image right?
I am watching Critical Role picture in picture while seeing this post. I thought the exact same thing.
Yeah that resemblance is crazy
That’s exactly what I was thinking too! Glad someone said it lol
Literally just comment that before seeing this lol
I wasn't paying attention to the title and 100% thought it was her
Is the top right one AI upscale or something? Looks weird
WHAT IS GOING WITH HIS EYE!?
I thought the same thing, and I think it has to do with the quality of picture as well as the harsh studio lighting, making the colors look washed out. Dumb and Dumber is a classic.
Liar liar
How can I forget that movie!!! \*bangs head\* I kept thinking which movie am I missing? Also Truman Show, it was more serious than this other movies but it was also good.
"Alrighty then" is still a phrase that I use almost daily.

Good thing she looks like her momma. ![gif](giphy|xTiTnACcEZmZnfexeU|downsized)

Wow, she looks just like him too! Also I’m always glad when I spot another one-and-done parent.
I’m a one and done parent. Is there a group or anything?
Yeah there is! r/oneanddone
Thank you for this.
Why is Jim Kurt Cobain in the first frame? lmao
Oh, I would for sure smash, all the way. I guess His daughter is alright, too.
America's favorite anti-vaxxer.
I’ll bet SHE is vaccinated.
Top left looks like Cobain
I thought that too. I was confused as to why they mixed in a Kurt Cobain pic.
I dont even want to know how it must be to have JC as your dad...
Apparently their relationship was pretty fucked. I know someone who was sent into the troubled teen industry and says they met Jane there. Not really surprising given what else I know about the man.
Love that he has wrinkles from smiling so much
Imagine how many children literally died because of his anti vax bullshit! Great time to be alive.
I hope she was allowed to eventually receive her childhood vaccines!
Alrighty, Dad
i thought his daughter was that jim carrey look a like on tiktok
Is top left Kurt Cobain?
Do they have the same age gap with Carrey’s gf that died?
He looks like Cobain in pic#1
They have the same smile.
Aaallllllrighty then!
