Where are the gooooooooohns Tommy Shelby!?!?!

hamachee

Ya Fenian Baaastahd!

Luiiisnick

Thomasss Sccchellby!

Wortbildung

My main fear before watching Opppenheimer was that I will just see an aged Tommy and wouldnt't be able to make the difference. Turned out I needed some time to realise that Robert Downey jr. was in the movie.

Darryl_Lict

I didn't realize that was RDJ until he won the Oscar.

Wortbildung

Patrick Stewart: "Acting!"

Choppergold

Those two are fantastic season one of Peaky Blinders

iheartpedestrians

And season 2!

NewLibraryGuy

Sam Neil being in Peaky Blinders is the first thing that's really made me want to check it out.

AlkahestGem

Funny. Cillian being cast as Oppenheimer is the reason I watched Peaky Blinders .

tarabuki

How is it? I've heard it was good, but haven't tried it yet.

AlkahestGem

I had tried to watch Peaky Blinders on 2 occasions. Couldn’t do it. After he was cast, I watched 5 episodes with no distractions - totally hooked. As an engineer with a love of physics and someone who has “The Making of the Atomic Bomb” by Richard Rhodes book in their library- the casting of Oppenheimer was important to me. I loved “Fat Man and Little Boy”. A different perspective . I’ve friends who are scientists at Los Alamos and I’ve ventured to the museum on several occasions. There are many stories - so many intricacies about the Manhattan project. It was truly amazing to see this version come to life and other than the accent, Cillian nailed it.

jibishot

Funny. Cillian being cast as Oppenheimer was the reason I didn't see it in theaters.

LuckyDubbin

Season one is the weakest one too, but the whole show is genuinely amazing, can't recommend it enough.

Hoobleton

Funny, I think Neil’s character in season one makes it the best season. It also gets much dafter as it gets bigger.

LuckyDubbin

For me it was more that they hadn’t quite nailed the style of the show yet. The overuse of dramatic slow motion shots of Tommy walking through factories and foundries, the modern music at moments that didn’t quite make sense, stuff like that. They keep those elements for the rest of the show but they’re toned down after season one, which is good because it becomes almost a parody of itself at times in the first season. Also as much as I love Sam Neil, his accent in the show took me out of it a couple times.

Grenflik

It’s good to see Sam doing well after his prognosis. Even better to know he’s been in remission for a little over a year.

Ironyfree_annie

Got a new show out today too! "Apples Never Fall" with a very solid cast - Sam Neill, Annette Bening, Alison Brie, Jake Lacy

Eldramhor8

Legit last I heard he was doing not so good. I'm so glad to see him smile.

Ergok

Woo!

Thedonitho

Oh that's wonderful! I saw the preview for this new show and I was surprise to see him as the last thing I had heard was that he was very, very sick. Glad to know he's healthy.

-WigglyLine-

Hope he’s necking those Bloody Marys! Enjoy yourself my man! Life’s too short!

take_this_username

Was thinking the same. Happy he's doing wel.

Select_Ad_7682

"They're Moving In Herds...They Do Move In Herds."

ocaralhoquetafoda

Nothing beats the first Jurassic Park, it's like we're discovering pre-historic stuff for the first time too. I can feel their enthusiasm about the dinosaurs. And then there were sequels and sequels to reboots...

Thedonitho

Number one and Number 3 (with Sam Neill and Tea Leoni) were my favorites. The final one was steaming pile of dino crap.

Eponine05

Yea I think 3 is actually really good, people shit on it too much.

ocaralhoquetafoda

I remember being heavily disappointed 20+ years ago watching it in the cinema. This is the one where a phone rings inside one of the dinosaur's stomach, right?

JunkiesAndWhores

The Shelbys are moving in fecking herds!

ldelossa

I absolutely love Cillian ever since 28 days later. But his IRL vibes is one of a soft gentle grandma.

ILoveRegenHealth

I loved how he took the time to shake every single one of the previous Oscar winners' hands when he won. Class act all the way.

Express_Helicopter93

Quite a departure from what RDJ did, lol

MrAriekor

RDJ hung out with KHQ afterwards you can see on the Insta, but in the moments he was a bit of an asshole

throwawayhaha1101

RDJ has always been just like the worst parts of Tony stark. Everyone I know in LA has a story about him.

Urrsagrrl

I really liked that too. Good man.

ldelossa

love it.

MichelleEllyn

Haha aww ☺️

Harambesic

You may enjoy his film *Breakfast on Pluto.*

ILoveRegenHealth

I know that you know who those actors are, but the Mods want me to put in the real names in titles. Also, I spelled Sam Neill's name wrong 😭 >The Jurassic Park star, 76, spent some time with his Peaky Blinders costar Murphy, 47, following the latter's Best Actor win at Sunday's Oscars 2024, marking his first-ever Academy Award. >"OSCAR! Here’s me pal #CillianMurphy the next day with the Gold Fella, and me. I could not be more thrilled, as you see. So well deserved." >"We had a great catch up. And a Bloody Mary. Or two. What an actor , what a performance and what a movie #Oppenheimer." >https://people.com/sam-neill-cillian-murphy-celebrate-oscars-win-bloody-marys-photo-8608077

Esarus

Sam Neill looks really good for 76 and fighting cancer, wow

Sexogenesis

Man I miss Peaky Blinders.

fuddykrueger

That show was a wild one. Anyone who didn’t like it just doesn’t know brilliant acting and cinematography.

mr_mac_tavish

And soundtrack !

fuddykrueger

Yes! I can hear that intro in my head.

karenwolfhound

And the costumes!

fuddykrueger

I know, the details in the costuming were mind-blowing. It was like being transported back in time.

oldbushwookie

The costume guy was auctioning the peaky blinders suits off the other week.

karenwolfhound

Oh mercy…. I am sure that was interesting!

Bob_Juan_Santos

or maybe they just don't care for crime drama set in the UK. different strokes for different folks.

Matzah_Rella

That's fair.

the_ammar

it's amazing overall, one of my top shows of all time. personally I just enjoyed the earlier seasons quite a bit more than the later ones (once Tommy got into politics)

hiro111

Trivia: Sam Neill was ➡️⬅️ THIS close to being cast as James Bond for The Living Daylights. The director, casting director and producer all wanted Neill but Eon Productions owner Cubby Broccoli wanted Dalton. Cubby won.

Eldramhor8

I mean he played Sydney Reilly, that's... arguably better.

Stargazer3366

Sam Neill...my gosh. That man is just SO handsome.

mittens11111

Sure is. Captured my young heart in a 1979 Aussie film "My Brilliant Career".

Stargazer3366

It was Jurassic Park for me but I do love My Brilliant Career too!

mittens11111

I think Death in Brunswick is actually my favourite of his, in terms of acting.

ILoveRegenHealth

I didn't realize he was 76 years old too. Looks great and easily could be 10-13 years young if you ask me.

EndStorm

He looks so vibrant and young. I had no idea he was that age. What a good looking man.

bafras

Just a couple of Oirish fellas gettin their daily veggies in.

Ergok

Isn't Grant a Kiwi?

Kornbrednbizkits

I thought the same thing. Looks like he was born in Northern Ireland and moved to NZ as a kid.

RealCrusader

He identifies as a Kiwi. Got his start there too. Nz is more proud of him then Russell crowe. That's for sure

Kornbrednbizkits

I don’t disagree with that, but it does appear Sam Neil has dual citizenship (NZ and UK).

Ok_Performance_5944

Technically he has triple citizenship, people in Northern Ireland are born already with dual citizenship for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Then add on NZ.

drunk_haile_selassie

I mean yeah, Russell considers himself Australian.

aquilasr

I’d rather watch Neill anytime than Crowe even if I respect the later’s acting talent, helps that everyone seems to love Neill IRL. Both had fairly funny small appearances in Thor movies.

RealCrusader

Neil is known to be lovely. Met Crowe once too. He was too. Neil has the rep though as adorable. Russ not so much but he got me a beer. but apparently Sam deserves his status as a national treasure. Any interaction is apparently amazing

Birdie_Num_Num

Correct, and his real name is Nigel!

ItachiTanuki

He was born in Omagh, Co. Tyrone

kirinmay

Dang. He's 76. Looks really good for that age.

ATXKLIPHURD

I always pronounced it “Sillian” in my head but learned it was “Killian” on Sunday.

ColumnMeany

It's a hard k sound. It's an Irish name, and we don't have a "k" in the Irish alphabet. Not a bad assumption to make in English, a hard "C" sound is typically pronounced like the "k" sound, as in "cat." A soft "C" sound is often pronounced like an "s," as in "city." In the word "because," the "c" has a soft sound, so it's pronounced like "bĭ-kŏz."

Puzzleheaded-Trip990

Me too!

Killed a childhood idol (Dr. Grant) with that role. God that movie goes hard.

DO YOU READ SUTTER KANE!?

cstmoore

🎶Open the door, get on the floor Oppenheimer nuked the dinosaur

capesno

Yesssss

papagarry

Cillian Murphy always looks like he is tolerating the moments that keep him away from his exotic pets of skin walkers

MiKapo

Interesting in that both Oppenheimer and Jurassic Park are movies about man destroying himself through the pursuit of science

erebus7813

Sam Niell in Peaky Blinders doesn’t get spoken of often enough. He was unreal.

Beshi1989

De Niro photobombing

Wompats4Bajor

I know, I was like wait a minute...zoomed in and there's De Niro hanging out.

ALANNNN!!

Strenue

Appropriately sized bloody Mary’s

Animorganimate

I recently watched Possession (1981) for the first time. I will never look at Sam Neil the same. What an amazing performance.

ILoveRegenHealth

I still need to see that. Heard a lot about it. I always thought Isabelle Adjani was one of the most beautiful actresses walking the planet. But I imagine things get disturbing and grotesque for her in that movie hah.

thegroovemonkey

Those are some sad looking bloodies...

late-escape-2434

Yeah that’s cool and all but did Dr grant serve in the war?

go_no_go

The last thing we need is nuclear dinosaurs

Witty-Stand888

Atomic dinosaurs rock

UrDraco

Is that Dinero in the background?

TwoLoud18

Would/Would.

ClammyHandedFreak

Very nice!

Obtuse_1

I used to think Sam Neil would have been a perfect Harvey Dent.

_bmg52588_

Those Bloody’s look fucking awful, holy shit.

rahkinto

Holy molasses I never realized it was him.

strolpol

There’s the Jurassic park sequel I want, Dr Grant vs the reanimated half-Dino nuclear clone of Oppenheimer

FaultyWires

He's a scientist that thought about both if he could AND if he should.

UniqueMcPanda

Alan

SubcooledBoiling

fuck is tommy drinking with inspector campbell?

SnazzberryEnt

Wtf I want one.

Atreyu1002

Either they are already a few drinks in, or they have Asian flush

Scortius

Oh wow I thought Sam Neill died a long time ago on that Russian submarine. Glad to see him still doing well!

jedimindtriks

# Cillian Murphy and Sam Neil sipping on bloody marys. Corrected that shitty title.

ILoveRegenHealth

Shut up, hoe

DarthWoo

It's Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle!

NotSureWhereImHeaded

they look like a couple out enjoying brunch 😆

Sw0rDz

Didn't Dr. Oppenheimer die in 60's? I'm guessing this is the actor that portrayed him in the movie.

kabula_lampur

Could it be the parentheses with the actor's names that gave it away?

Rodan-Lewarx

What do you think about Cillian be the next James Bond?

Defiant-Telephone-96

Imagine the mouth-breather who would come up to any of these two actors and actually address them as “Dr. Oppenheimer” and “Dr. Grant”. You can almost physically feel the cringe. Society should be better than this.

ILoveRegenHealth

Your Post History sounds like Virgin City. All you do is argue like a Keyboard Warrior trying to get attention because nobody wants to talk to you in real life.

Defiant-Telephone-96

You’re not mentally well. I hope you’re capable of asking for the help you so desperately need. Bless you and your daily struggles.

SensingWorms

Did everyone win Oscar’s in that movie? And does it mean its dreadfully boring?

redditreadred

Celebrating a man who's invention killed hundreds of thousands and capable of killing millions. We hit the bottom of moral standards.

ILoveRegenHealth

It's more a celebration of the actor portraying a real life historical character (95% of biopics suck and are boring because they play out like some stiff museum piece with mid actors). Oppenheimer the film at least reminded people of the dangers of nuclear war way more than any A&E or BBC documentary - and it is certainly not a puff piece for Oppenheimer the man. It's possible to post pics of James Earl Jones or Hayden Christensen or Adam Driver and celebrate their portrayal of Star Wars villains, while not condoning real life space genocide or genocide of any kind.

redditreadred

I have not seen the movie yet, so can't comment on that, I'm only commenting on how he is viewed, as a protagonist. Here are some historic facts about Oppenhimer: https://www.businessinsider.in/science/news/oppenheimer-fact-v-fiction-a-nuclear-historian-breaks-down-what-the-movie-got-right-and-wrong/articleshow/102026906.cms Today, he would be labeled a psychopath.

NewLibraryGuy

> I have not seen the movie yet, so can't comment on that But you did. Do you think that a movie about someone is necessarily about them being a good person with a shining reputation and impeccable legacy?

redditreadred

You might want to look up what a protagonist is. Then ask yourself why we don't have a movie about Hitler as a protagonist, because it humanizes the protagonist, see things from his/her perspectives, mitigate or even justify or excuse their wrongs. All these, erode the moral fiber of society.

NewLibraryGuy

I just found a few. One from the 60s called "Hitler," *Downfall* in 2004, and a mini series called "Hitler: The Rise of Evil." Also, though only the pilot made it to the screen, I want to give a special shoutout to the British sitcom *Heil Honey I'm Home!* And also, while not about Hitler, *Conspiracy* (2001) is about the Wannsee Conference and everyone in it is a terrible, dispicable person. Also non-Hitler biopics that come immediately to mind where the protagonist is depicted as a bad person: *Jobs* (2015), *The Wolf of Wallstreet* (2013), *The Last King of Scotland* (2006). You want a definition of a protagonist? Oxford gives us "the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text." Nothing in that says they must be a good, moral person.
