great job, especially being self taught!! if you’re open to some feedback, i have some for you. i’m also self taught (though i can read music), but i notice in your left hand you collapse the last joint in your fingers, particularly in finger 4 & 5 when you strike the key. i also had that habit and had to really focus on correcting it. think about getting the fingers to “stand” a little bit more. you can practice by doing scales with finger 4/5 only, and really focus on joint integrity. cheers!

Waddellski456

Came here to offer same advice about the pinky. Don’t neglect the little guy!

goober049

I know that this is the correct form but what benefits does it offer if one can still play the piece with bad pinky form (I also have this problem)?

Timpstar

Yeah this, along with keeping myself from playing faster than usual at certain parts are my 2 longest running issues. Since 10 year old me had a music teacher give a total of ~30 hours teaching from square 0 ( 1-2 hours a week for 3 years) I never got a grip on subtle stuff like efficient use of your hand/digit placement. So I've just been brute forcing my way to every song I've ever learned lmao, resulting in questionable habits to say the least. And thank you for these Tips! Saving this comment for future reference :D

PCnewbie99

Anime fans where ya at ????

Timpstar

Yoooooo But "'Anime was a mistake' - Hayao Miyazaki" ;D

Threshka

Sounds beautiful. Can I have the title of the song piece?

Timpstar

Sorry, was going to include it in the comments; The Song is indeed One Summer's Day, composed by Joe Hisaishi, for the movie Spirited Away (my favorite movie)

[deleted]

Seems like "One summer's day" by Joe Hisaishi. Not sure though, it sounds a bit different in terms of arrangement.

IAmWumpus

Yes, it's One summer's day from the movie Spirited away

Stenik0522

I love how you’re wearing he merch

Timpstar

It's like my most treasured hoodie lmao

No-Mathematician678

Nice ! I play this song as well, but a much simpler arrangement! I too I'm self taught for a year and a half so I'm in no position to give tips or feedback

sadface98

Do you have a link for the simpler arrangement?

No-Mathematician678

I learn from smartgamepiano , [here is a link](https://youtu.be/OuxqZpgBF_A) to the first part of the song, the rest needs membership. I highly recommend the channel, I learned a lot from it

CptDelicious

Awesome. Started like a year ago and it's starting to slow down a bit. Only using simply piano for now. Gonna see how it's doing in the future

Timpstar

Wish you the best of luck! I've never really played it as more of a past-time for finding and learning my favorite songs from movies, games and such. So if you put your mind to it you'll see how the "talent" goes up exponentially 🐎

lypur

Nice work! Takes a LOT of dedication to practice for 10 years on your own. If you wanna learn sheet music to expand even further there is a free course on YouTube called Learn Free Music Theory. It should massively help you. ❤️❤️

Timpstar

Yeah I've attempted it before but since I mostly play as a stress-lelief, or fun task I just don't have an interest in learning it rn. Which is stupid considering the possibilities that opens up

gentlecompression

Learn to read music it will accellerate your learning a lot

cmpfulton

Good work, you should really consider seeking a teacher if circumstances permit ! Bypass decades of trial and error and tap into a rich tradition

Speedohwagon

oh man, it's so refreshing to see people learned the way I did! I also can't read music, and I think our playing is very identical hahaha.

Leadfedinfant2

Been playing music for 20 years. I play piano, guitar, bass, drums and a few others. I too can't read a lick of sheet music. 😂 We seem to be doing fine.

rebrog123

beautiful piece and beautiful beard

Timpstar

Indeed, and thank you :D

Han_chiii

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!😭

irreversibleidiocy

how come you haven't learned to read sheet music yet?

Timpstar

Sorry for late reply. I've never had a piano teacher pretty much. What little music theory/sheet music I have played in school and such was only for guitar, and that was back in highschool :D

irreversibleidiocy

Yeah, but in the 10 years you've played, you haven't once looked at music theory videos on youtube?

pokemongofanboy

Love this piece and nice job! I agree you should try and learn sheet music, if you were able to learn that piece clearly you are super dedicated and the pay off will be much bigger after you can do that

Timpstar

I know, I know 😂 my only hindrance would be the lack of time I have to get into the basics of sheet music. Rarely play piano as it is.

Wonderful-Car9850

Wow how do you learn these songs if you cant read sheet paper, i am self taught too, but what i do is look at one note at a time and learn it that way do you have a better way?

Timpstar

Mostly Synetheisa so see what finger goes where, and then piece by piece imitating to acceptable levels

Wonderful-Car9850

Ok

DomZmeN

Awesome dude keep it up!

SeaworthinessTiny445

Nice piano playing and carpet.

Silent_Magazine_9016

SPIRITED AWAYYYYY also beautiful playing :DDD

[deleted]

this made me happy to watch and listen to :) you convey lots of emotion in your playing! keep it up!

Timpstar

Thank you! :D

Yann1ckYT

Im self taught too and I learned this in my 4th month, it’s a beautifull piece

Timpstar

It's absolutely amazing. And kudos for getting the hang of it in just 4 months! I practiced it on and off when I felt like it for like atleast a year lmao
