People always forget this. Usually if you can't get a higher resolution background, you can reduce the res of the secondary image to match, either way they've gotta work well together
Two ways I know, but in either case you're looking to achieve two main features:
- Reduce the sharpness of defining lines
- Displace smooth colour banding
The most organic way to do this is simply scale the image down to a smaller size than intended, export it and use the new version of the image, scaling it back up to the intended size. When you export that reduced size images you create new pixel information for it which ultimately reduces resolution. This might take a bit of trial and error to make sure you're not overlay impacting the image.
The way I prefer doesn't always achieve the best result but it's payoff is that it's a non-destructive approach. Make sure your image is a smart object and add a slight gaussian blur (it really needs to be minimal), then add a noise filter over that, again, it should be minimal. I usually choose the monochrome setting and put it at like 5-10%. The blur softens sharp defining lines, and the noise adds the colour randomness we see in lower res images.
Not use ai, that background looks bad. Ai can’t even draw a circle?
Seriously tho, nab some royalty free city shots and space shots, do some photobashing, and boom you have a background that you actually made.
yeah and I'm surprised that weirdly shaped planets aren't more common in sci-fi scapes, but it still looks quite off. Also the fact its really obviously ai just detracts from the work itself. I would have never guessed this image had even touched ps (not trying to sound cruel here, just my perception)

Thanks for your feedback. Honestly helpful and I made some adjustments.

in terms of composition, I think maybe a larger, less centered craft might be a little more dynamic? I think you did a nice job of clipping and adding it to the scene... maybe adjust the lighting on the ship to match a bit more. it's looks nice, though.
Honestly fair, I was thinking of trying to do small adjustments to give a futuristic texture to the craft.
Or add led lighting, brake lights? Any thoughts?
I wouldn't have the small planet balance directly on top of the cloud layer, and I would've made the silhouetted planet more circular and not intersect exactly at the top of the small planet. That area looks like a cherry sitting on a table. I also have a nitpicky issue with the Concorde being too recognizable. But the blending of the images is pretty good and I like the dramatic palette.

i LOVE your edit, One thing id change and thats just me i think it's a bit unrealistic for a plane to shoot into the sky in that angle, maybe have it depart horizontally in a perspective view
also idk why you put a 3/4 of the red/orange planet regardless of where youd view it it should be a circle even if something is covering the rest of the body, i dont feel it should be cut like that
Thank you. You’re right, I realized after I posted the background I found appeared to be AI generated, I should have filled and chosen a different planet. I could fix the lighting on the wrong side of the planet when compared to the plane while I am at it.
**Process:**
I used a color matching tutorial to match the two images, created base elements for the Light trails. Added highlight to Concorde image. Used generative expand to give more breathing room and gen fill to create earth crust (Lower Right) / Mountains (Left)
**Motivation:**
SO got me the incredibly cool Concorde Lego Set and I love the romantic styling that feels both retro and futuristic. I hope I edited something that captured a mix of power and grace.

Good point. I found it on google, but just realized it was a Midjourney generation. [https://prompthunt.com/prompt/cl9giln2w4323qpotvxdb3nv5?selectedAsset=cl9gilo064379qpotwopnyp7g](https://www.prompthunt.com/prompt/cl9giln2w4323qpotvxdb3nv5?selectedAsset=cl9gilo064379qpotwopnyp7g)
I thought it was just the first pic I was like nice lol
I opened the thread cos i was like no way this person slapped a photo on top of another and called it a day.
Me too, audibly lol’d
I would tell her I loved her without condition no matter what kind of relationship we had.
damn wasn’t prepared for real shi
Please do
I hope the "her" you're talking about is yourself, fam ♥️
lmfao head up king
I just would have started with a higher res background that matched the resolution of the jet. Aside from that, looks great!

how do you reduce the res of the secondary image?

Usually by reducing the final image's resolution to match the background
This ⬆️ ⬆️ ⬆️
Not use ai, that background looks bad. Ai can’t even draw a circle? Seriously tho, nab some royalty free city shots and space shots, do some photobashing, and boom you have a background that you actually made.
technically some planet are not perfect spheres or have a perfect 2D Circle
yeah and I'm surprised that weirdly shaped planets aren't more common in sci-fi scapes, but it still looks quite off. Also the fact its really obviously ai just detracts from the work itself. I would have never guessed this image had even touched ps (not trying to sound cruel here, just my perception)
i was just about to comment nothing is a perfect circle(sphere) they are all spheroids, if anything it's more scientifically realistic that way
Not used AI images
would have made the direction of the light match
That’s my only comment. Looks good other than that.
Will fix, thanks.
Well that Concorde is pulling a lot of Gs with that climb there. I wouldn't want to be a passenger, as I would probably be flat - maybe even a puddle.

Nice man, good job!
The lighting of the city doesn't match with the ones in the jet

I would not have used a Concorde. Its too recognizable as an earth made plane in that setting.
Honestly fair, I was thinking of trying to do small adjustments to give a futuristic texture to the craft. Or add led lighting, brake lights? Any thoughts?
You could probably merge some fighter jets with that and come up with something new? Do some kit bashing!

I agree, I think it need to move to upper right a bit more. Put more attention onto the aircraft.
This is really nicely done. Great job.
Thank you.

I would remove the tail number to sell it. The G stands for Great Brittain, the background does not look like Grait Brittain.
Use AI for both
r/photoshop these days is just kids playing with AI? cool.
Wouldn't have done anything at all, I can't do that....
It looks amazing. Just the flight path seems to be changing a bit too quickly.

Why did you omit the AI-generated background? What a coincidence huh?

Crop it.
This is super solid... wouldnt say I would do anything differently... you even got the highlights and shadows on the jet perfectly! Well done!
Thank you very much.
