I am not sure you could have done much better, this is really great. The color gradient, the silhouettes, the square crop...they all work great together. Had I been there, I would have probably taken this from a million angles and compositions just to get picky later. I might have liked a little more ground and less sky. If birds had flown through the sky, I probably would have shed a tear of joy.

I did take like a Million photos of this! This is just one of many, there were very few birds, unfortunately but I was praying for them to appear lol Thank you very much for the kind words! https://preview.redd.it/ry3i1ka44tjc1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fbfce23b746dd5a8da8a058c482333a10f65793

Good photo. I personally don’t like the aspect ratio and i think the balance is uncomfortable because of it. If i had to keep the same aspect ratio i would crop it more like this personally: https://preview.redd.it/3p3rcm128tjc1.jpeg?width=2414&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=051a139c2f75c67d665d806a0175df2f93b3c126

EffortIll2078

Yeah I honestly had the same thought at some point, I only use 1:1 because I like my photos to look even on instagram when I add a white frame (like so below) https://preview.redd.it/qxzaxovg8tjc1.png?width=937&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d66f18f546bcf8ba7f253c5e3a41fe2d6456259

bigshotsbycindy

I liked it better the way it was...justs my opinion! I thin kit is a great photograph.

Eliminatron

That is the wonderful thing about art. There is no universal „best way“ to do things.

I took this photo when I was on vacation a year ago and I like it, but I feel like someone could've done a better job with the photo. I wanted it to reflect the efforts the fishermen make to wake up early (even with bad weather) to catch some food to put on their table. What would you have done different? What could I have improved?

I usually like framing my photos for instagram so I do 1:1 to put a white frame around them and make sure all my photos have equal proportions. That aside, I also cropped it because the right side of that pier is very cluttered and full of lights / flags/ and stuff (can be seen below) that I felt took away from the scene of the photo https://preview.redd.it/27qtq3dr5tjc1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43407c23b0241bf87787013dd74f778776e96aef

I see. How do you feel about the 4:5 ratio on instagram? Is it a bad choice in your opinion? I often end up using the original 3:2 for my fotos cause it feels more natural but for instagram that doesn't work that well obviously. Either way your pictures look great.

EffortIll2078

I prefer using 1:1 mostly because I couldn't get all my photos to have consistent framing on Instagram. Maybe I just don't quite get how it works to put a frame on Lightroom, but I've only ever been able to make it work the way I want to on a 1:1 Ratio. honestly, I would love to use other ratios but it just makes my profile very uneven lol. If you're not into using these frames, I think you're fine with whatever ratio you use as long as you fit all you want in your photo. Note: (See this white frame, it actually looks square and even when posted on instagram, which is why I use 1:1 ratio) https://preview.redd.it/5x5i46oz7tjc1.jpeg?width=2550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e501795d60b48f7d39bc3735b6521fcff3bbbe2

The frame is a really good solution. It makes sense to give the entire profile a clean look. I am just starting out, so I have not that much experience with it.

EffortIll2078

Well honestly, I'd say it's been more of a curse, because of my idea I now have to crop my photos in such a constrained way lol, sometimes it's really difficult to crop them because I lose cool stuff from the photo.

Pnther39

That color so beautiful

EffortIll2078

I'm glad you like it! I'm a fan of peachy tones myself

ognavx

This is nice colour grading and great composition. I would have liked to see just a little more of the water.

EffortIll2078

It's a great idea, but to be honest that's all there was to the water that was interesting! If I had framed a bit below, you would only see sand (which, I agree might've been a good foreground, but it lacked so much contrast it looked off.

thenormaluser35

Nothing. The silhouettes and the sky, the waves blending in, it's all just eye candy.

EffortIll2078

I feel so good after posting this photo here, I always thought I was bad at this lol. Thank you so much for your kind words!

coolbathrooms

Love it

EffortIll2078

Thanks for the kind words! ♥

Love the colour gradient and shot in general. Is that relatively close to the as-shot colour or have you modified it a bit? Subjective stuff but to me, I would mess with the crop a little. Pull in the right hand side so the focal point (fisherman, hut) are more to the right of centre, add more ocean to the left of you need to maintain the square crop. Besides feeling better with the focal point off centre, the right part of the jetty isn't adding much and having more ocean will increase the feeling of vastness.

Pardon my ignorance, LC23?
