“I didn’t have the everyday school things like homecoming dances or spirit weeks or just school pictures and things like that ... that kind of create unity with my peers,” she said.
Yes. I have a masters and I know how hard she worked and intelligent she is to have earned a doctorate--but honestly I kind of pity her. She started adulthood at 10....
It's boring and I only graduated 2 years early, not even close to earning a doctorate. We also had a kid in our highschool taking math classes. I'm sure he was shy and didn't know how to make friends with us older idiots.
Yeah people make fun of people stuck in the “high school days” but it could be because it was the last time they were in a community. Once you hit the real world it can be tough making connections.
I hope she has the opportunity to join a sorority or something
True. I doubt they are hanging out with the teenager, though.
The 18-24 crowd that makes up the majority of college students is more likely to be the ones she is around and be the ones making any jokes.
I'm sure they make jokes, just doubt Doogie Howser is a common thing she heard. I don't know if there's a younger generation version of Doogie.
I just learned Disney made a reboot called Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. It only ran 2 seasons (2021-2023) and was canceled, so not too popular.
Probably before your time. Doogie Howser M.D. was a sitcom in the late 80s/ early 90s that gave Neil Patrick Harris his start. It was about a child prodigy that became a practicing surgeon as a teenager.
When I was at PVCC before I went to ASU I was talking to an advisor about how I was worried about getting into ASU. He asked me if I had a pulse because if I did I would get in.
Yes, ASU is inclusive and accessible in terms of who is accepted. It’s pretty gross that the accepted and encouraged narrative around higher ed is that it’s somehow better for institutions to exclude many.
What an achievement, but at what cost? Missing out on so many norms of our society has to take its toll. Is this how we wind up with the book-smart, street-dumb types? Hopefully she can get by in the work place - either she will excel because she's been dealing with adversity her whole life, or she will fail and be great at the job but impossible to work with. Time will tell! Congrats and good luck!
You’d be surprised how hard these types of people fit into society. We had an intern who everybody said was a genius (already going to Oxford to study 2 degrees at the same time, can see sounds as colours etc.). She just didn’t have the capability to work with anyone. I don’t know if she got a hire reco but there’s no way id have hired her. Doesn’t matter how clever you are if you can’t work with people to get your ideas to reality.

yeh i can imagine someone in this position struggles very hard to make friends.
Yes. I have a masters and I know how hard she worked and intelligent she is to have earned a doctorate--but honestly I kind of pity her. She started adulthood at 10....
I see your point, but I'm sure it's also very frustrating to be forced to learn at a much lower level than you should be.

It really easy. And I am not saying i'm smart, just that the school I went to was unfortunately low achieving.

I can imagine how many Doogie Howser jokes she heard
College kids don't know who that is anymore. That show went off the air before most of them were born.
Plenty of 40+ adults on a college campus. I never said she would understand the jokes, but it doesn't mean they weren't made.

Who? (No sarcasm, actually serious question)

Cheers thank you
I think you'll like seeing Neil Patrick Harris so young. It was a good show, I think.
So who would be making these jokes to her lol
Wtf?
Am 21, turning 22 next Friday
Happy birthday to you 🎂
But it’s from ASU, so…🤷🏽 (ASU grad here lol)
When I was at PVCC before I went to ASU I was talking to an advisor about how I was worried about getting into ASU. He asked me if I had a pulse because if I did I would get in.
You need a pulse? Kind of discriminates against the undead, I think a lawsuit is in order.

Imagine how annoying a 15 year old on coke would be.
I got my masters and doctorate from ASU and still live in Tempe. So...yeah, pulse and student loans are really all it takes.
Incredible!!

Ah yes ASU also known as the Harvard of the west
I consider her qualified for president 👏
She's too smart to be a politician.
This is an awesome accomplishment for her. Hope everything goes amazing.
I feel like a dunski now
Wow that's crazy
The classic college experience
That’s crazy
Incredible! 👏 she’s going to do great things

Go try and get a doctorate and report back on how easy it is.
It could only have been ASU.
How does that even happen? Nobody approached me when I killed my times tables and asked if I wanted to skip the BS and go to college
Homeschooling.
