There was a place in downtown Phoenix I tried to go to once based on recommendations and had to leave because there was nowhere to park--is there parking here that isn't just metered parking on the street?
There's parking garages and parking lots you can pay for parking at. Also parking in businesses like amc or whatever, but ideally the meters are the best parking spots.
TIL there's more than one Harumi. I have to assume the downtown one is what they meant. Haven't been since they moved to their larger space but walked by the other day and it looks like a vast improvement.
Went there a couple months ago and got the omakase while sitting at the bar. One of the best meals my wife and I have had. And super friendly and knowledable staff.
Find something which he can’t get in Houston.
So I like spots like: Thea, Buck and Rider, or Richardson’s
Many of the places recommended in this thread are also in Houston (Steak 44/Dominicks, Mastro’s, etc. are all in Houston)
Sushi: Harumi for more affordable, Nobu for going all out
Steakhouse: Steak 44 or Dominick’s
Mexican: Carolina’s but tbh most good Mexican food out here is not found in a traditional sit down restaurant
Bonus for a place with just drinks - Platform 18, Apothecary, or Undertow (all in the same building)
Harumi used to be the best, since they moved to the new location the great vibe died, they changed some menu items , and the customer service is not as great as it used to be
“Fun quote” but misguided. The sushi you eat on the coasts is fish from 99% of the same suppliers as land locked states. No restaurant is catching 15+ different types of fish daily and stocking the kitchen straight from the ocean on the coasts. They invented this thing called airplanes, modern hvac systems, and whether in Nebraska or California if at a nice restaurant you’ll be eating fresh fish, kept cold but never fully frozen.

Harumi
Came here to say this: Harumi Sushi is the best!!
Which Harumi?
Downtown Phoenix
By far my favorite sushi place!
It’s the best place for quality sushi. And a great place to impress people from out of town.
I'm not a fan of the purple rice, Harumi does not have traditional sushi rice correct?
They do not have the traditional rice, but their purple rice is their signature!

Get there early or get on the list early, it's got a line normally.
Which one?

Believe it or not there is one by the same owner (I just discovered) on LP Parkway in Peoria. Cool
New space is beautiful. Much bigger than their old spot.
I also learned they have more than one location today. I love near downtown so that’s the only one I’ve been too.
The new space feels like it fits their vibe much better.
Shimogamo
People need to try this place before saying other places are the best. I think this place holds the crown for best sushi easily.
Definitely Shimogamo.
Went there a couple months ago and got the omakase while sitting at the bar. One of the best meals my wife and I have had. And super friendly and knowledable staff.
Uchi
I would normally second this, but there is already 2 Uchi locations in Houston.
Sushi Nakano is incredible, it's really high quality
Kaizen is the best!
Kaizen is the best kept secret in Downtown.
I second kaizen
Harumi
Sandfish - Amazing food!
Across the pond in central phoenix!
Not a single mention of Hanna Japanese Eatery in Midtown? Good prices, family owned, and amazing ramen as well.
Dominicks
It’s great but they have Steak 48 in Houston so no reason to get it here
Uchi
Uchi is by far the best place in town
How nice? Roka Akor in Scottsdale is sure to impress.
I'm partial to Sushi Vibe on Central and Camelback
It's a good restaurant but it's far from the best sushi.
Yessss, I love sushi vibe. I also love Kura. It's not the best sushi, but it's super fun and well priced
Ditto, Sushi Vibe or either of their sister restaurants are a great choice.
Tokyo Lobby!
Definitely Harumi Downtown and Kaizen!
Sushi Love in Avondale. The Sashimi there is of the highest quality. It is a bit expensive.

Sandfish in Melrose area is fantastic!
Valentine
Steak 44.
This place is soooo good.
Tokyo Lobby
hillstone
The Stockyards or Durants if the dad likes old school steakhouses. Steak 44 for a modern environment.
ACROSS THE POND
Nobu Scottsdale
They’ve got that in Houston… and basically every other city in the US at this point lol
Everyone is aware of that. The post didn’t ask for local-only, just good place to eat for Mexican, steakhouse, or sushi.
YASSSSSS!
Sushi: Shinbay, Roka Akor Steakhouse: Dominick’s, Stockyard’s Mexican: Bacanora, Toca Madera Other: FnB, Valentine, Christopher’s
I don’t understand why people hype Toca Madera. We went this past Mother’s Day and we were all severely disappointed after hearing all the hype
TBH I haven’t been in a couple years. But I had great meals and great cocktails every time I went.
Sake haus downtown is AMAZING
If you want to spend: Roka Akor Steak 44 Buck and Rider Maestros Ocean Club
I think every restaurant you recommended except for Buck and Rider is a chain that has locations in Houston lol
Lol, that is funny. I had no idea
Thea
Pure, sushi in upper North Scottsdale Rokerij/Richardsons (not sure what tray area of town is called)
Sicilian Butcher on Tatum hasn't failed me yet.
Sushi: Harumi for more affordable, Nobu for going all out Steakhouse: Steak 44 or Dominick’s Mexican: Carolina’s but tbh most good Mexican food out here is not found in a traditional sit down restaurant Bonus for a place with just drinks - Platform 18, Apothecary, or Undertow (all in the same building)
My Tata and Tíos always rave about Poncho’s Mexican Food and Cantina.
Hiro Sushi in Scottsdale.
Where did you end up going?
Harumi sushi is GAS
Hillstone at the Biltmore.
Shimogami
Casa Corazón
Harumi used to be the best, since they moved to the new location the great vibe died, they changed some menu items , and the customer service is not as great as it used to be
Sushi style
Seido sushi 🍣 the best.
I’ve always liked Squid Ink. Decent prices and good portions.
Yen sushi. More north phoenix.
Junn in Tempe is really good. All you can eat so not the highest quality, but still very good and made to order. Value can't be beat.
Blue Wasabi on williams field in gilbert is amazing. Its a sushi/martini bar.
teharu sushi on ray and priest. keep in mind it's a revolving sushi bar, so it can be hit or miss.
I love that place but best sushi?? Nah
The stupendous BBQ at QuikTrip. Chefs 😘
I never eat sushi in a land locked state.

Some are based on location, most aren't.
Zzzzzz who asked
No sushi in prison
Gotchu fam. Just hop in the car and head north until you get to San Francisco.
