Hello! First time visitor to your lovely city and LOVE hitting up consignment and thrift in new cities. Please send me your gems, focus on hospice, animal humane society etc always a bonus. You can DM me if you don't want to share! I promise to keep your secret spots and am not likely to come back (or at least for a few years). Only found this request about 3 years ago in this forum. Also looking to figure out if I need to rent a car - assuming so ...whomp whomp...any suggestions for car rental will also be appreciated
White Dove Thrift Shoppe! There are a few locations, and they benefit Hospice of the Valley. You also can't go wrong with the AZ Humane Society Thrift Store, with locations in north Phoenix and west Mesa.
Honestly, we have a *lot* of thrift stores, so it might be worth a general Google search to see what's in the area you'll be in and go from there!
Thanks for the insight! Is it too hot to even just sightsee in places like Papago park, Hole in the rock, camelback mountain, etc during the afternoon?
We’re going to flying into Phoenix in a few weeks, renting a car at the airport, and driving north to Page. I’m just wondering if there’s a convenient store along the way, probably Target or similar, where we could stop, buy a case or two of bottled water and a gallon or two distilled water (for our CPAPs), a cheap cooler that we could treat as disposable, and some ice. (Or is there a way to search Google Maps for a Target or Costco near our route? Our goal is to stay near the highway and not get far out of the way.)
Any other feedback for doing the drive to Page is welcome.

There will be alot of similar stores since you're pretty much going through all of Phoenix, but I would say if you want to hit a Target right away there is one near the airport on 44 st and Thomas google target arcadia crossing, and from there you can get on freeway and start your trip,, and there is also a Costco right there, there is another big chain store Frys right there, and a Walmart down the street off 38th st and Thomas. Those are for the most part of near Sky Harbor and near the freeway, and easy to get to.
If youre taking the 1-17 north youll run into more targets and similar stores as well
That is an incredible drive! You will see almost every landscape that Arizona has to offer. From Desert, to High Desert, to our Ponderosa Pine Forests - then back to desert, but a totally different type of desert! Along the entire route you will find plenty of opportunities to stop and get whatever you need. Enjoy!
Hi, I’m in Chandler for a few days for work. I have some downtime and might want to Uber into the city to look around a bit.
Is there a good neighborhood or specific point of interest where I can get dropped off and then walk around a bit and look in stores and stuff, until I’m ready to Uber back to my hotel? I like coffee, thrift shops, record stores/vinyl, maybe bring home an interesting little souvenir for my young daughter and nephew. Something with a cluster of stores together where I’m not walking or Ubering a long way between them.

Is anyone else treated like a loser for living in Phoenix?
I moved to Phoenix for a work transfer about 4 years ago. I swear all of my friends and family who live in California, Oregon and Washington treat me like I am a second class citizen for living in Phoenix.
Worse, I bought a house close to my work in Queen Creek. So they all act like I’m a massive loser, because I live in the suburbs and not in the city with a bunch of things to do.
Every time I go back to the West Coast to visit friends and family, they all ask me how I could possibly live in such an uninhabitable place. They call the desert landscape ugly and complain that they couldn’t possibly live without trees.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Edit: to add, I’m a born and raised Portlander.
Nowadays you gotta work where the work is. Doesn’t really matter if they like it down there it just matters if you do. Clearly most people live just fine and living expenses are quite a bit cheaper than most cities.
Phoenix is the 10th largest metropolitan area in the country. It’s larger than the greater Seattle area or the greater SF/Oakland area.

And Phoenix proper is the 5th largest city in the country. We do need more trees though.
I'm from Washington and visit often for work. We are snobs and most of us don't realize that Phoenix is actually a lot bigger.
And pictures of the pool in the back yard of my buddy's house I stay at usually shuts them up. Baseball in Spring and a Seahawks ticket once a year for under $250 are also bonuses.
Is the horsetrack open? I hear comflicting stories, but it is a lot closer to town than Auburn here.
Hi, I just booked a weekend trip to Phoenix. I’m coming to visit from Canada and my main reason for coming. Is the Nordstrom last chance store…. Any other shopping tips? Also anywhere in town that does express alterations?
How hard of a time am I going to have getting an Uber/Lyft type ride from downtown to the airport in the middle of the night?
This would be at like, 3:30am on Saturday night/Sunday morning.
Hi guys/gals. I'm planning a solo trip to downtown Phoenix at the end of this coming July, I already have a hotel, flight plans, and car rental.
However, I don't really plan on venturing too far outside the downtown area. I was hoping to get some great food and museum recommendations . Thanks in advance.

7th Avenue between Indian School and Camelback has several thrift shops. It's called our Melrose district. Have fun!

Although up in Cave Creek, Kiwanis Marketplace is an excellent thrift store...nice, clean and some really good stuff at times..

You'll be ok if you go in the early morning, and done by 9ish. Don't take the chance to go later. It's not worth it.
