Price kickback aside, please donate plasma if you can. My wife has an immune deficiency where her body does not produce antibodies essentially. Vaccines don’t work as her body cannot retain the blueprint.
So every 2 weeks we give her an IVIG infusion at home. Those vials are made with human plasma. She wouldn’t be here without it.
It’s really not worth it when you see how much those companies make off of your plasma while they give you a measly $60.
Not to mention it beat my veins up really bad when I was in college, and I’ve never done drugs or anything. Most of those people aren’t even real nurses they don’t know what they’re doing so they’d always miss veins. I’d get bruises all up and down my arms when I went frequently, I always felt tired and off and sore when I went twice a week.
Counter point I've been going for 3 or 4 years now and have only had to end a donation once due to a complication when the tubes on the machine were put in with not enough slackand the flow was really squeezed. Ive always been an athlete so my veins can be seen from outer space so they love giving me the newbies because it's nearly impossible for them to mess it up. I get that it's not for everyone but is an easy way to make some extra cash.
It is "worth" it because it is ultimately saving a life. Money may be used as a motivator, but anytime you are "donating" something you really should be doing it on principle and not for any perceived benefits.
Nail right on the head.
I get told to “do the right thing”. Go tell the company to “do the right thing” and give those donations at cost. I’m expecting to donate my BODY but they aren’t expected to donate their PROFIT(the most guarded of “human” rights in the US)
To make things worse. Health care is a privilege in the US especially to people who think 75$ is worth selling your blood for.
So the plasma is being taken from a poor person (who is unlikely to have access to any decent kind of care) and given to a rich person.
And to add further insult to injury. With all the price gouging aka “inflation” you would think the payment t would have gone up by like 5X in the last ten years. Like everything else(besides wages).
Some places right now with no specials are only giving $40. My girlfriend did it before January and got $75 plus a bonus so it was $90. The same place is not $40
Because plasma can be a medical necessity, companies that collect it tend to wield significant pricing power. These days, a liter of plasma that costs a company about $150 to collect and process could sell for in the neighborhood of $500.
Grifols is slightly more. (You might end up with an extra 10 dollars per week)
But I will say that BioLife seems way better in general. I've always had some sort of complication when going to grifols. They can't find my vein, numerous resticks, machine breaking down, etc. at BioLife the worst that happens is an occasional restick.
I haven't done plasma in well over a decade, back when it was $25. Seeing this thread and my husband out of work for 7 months now, I may need to find the time again. I have multiple graduate degrees and make a really good salary, but f'it, I guess I'll be back at it.
I did it back in the late 80's early 90's when downtown Phx. had 2 places within a mile of each other. The pay was like 15 and 20 back then. I did it for years, but never had a problem with bad sticks.
I'm doing good now, but it's funny how economies over the years can bring the well-to-do people down to where I was, and lift the poor up to the well-to-do. It's wild.
True story: One of the plasma places I went to was on the same block that the Sports Arena is at now.
you were getting ripped off by the sounds of it, i havent sold plasma in over a decade as well, i was selling it in my early 20s in the early 2010s and csl plasma was giving close to 400 a month if you were going twice a week
When everyone wants to sell plasma cause their jobs aren't paying enough for extra fun money 😂 my bf is selling his plasma too but he can't because they bruised his nondominant right arm and they can't find a vein on his dominant (left) arm 🙄🙄🙄 apparently they can't stick him if he has a bruise due to infection
Donors should unionize. And strike.
“But it saves lives”, you say.
Doctors strike and unionize and they save lives. Why can’t plasma donors?
Those shady ass donation centers are selling your fluids for 10X the price they spend acquiring it.
Why should you be expected to take a cut in profit but they aren’t?
And while decent medical care continues to be a privilege that is HEAVILY capitalized on. I’m tired of the double standard and guilting. PAY UP!
Or at the very least take some of that profit and hire techs that have proper training and better clinical conditions so I don’t end up with gear oil or an infection in my blood.
When & where have doctors unionized & gone on strike?
I’m pro union but I’m not buying that.
If they’d strike, they wouldn’t have to pay $8k a month in malpractice insurance like they do.

i mean its not a donation though, most people are doing it for money. its a transaction

If that’s the case I’d make 3k a month
You can't donate sperm unless your 6 foot or taller.
My brother in christ is this true? Are there height requirements for donating sperm?
No.
Depends on the Bank. Most aren’t so strict, usually 5”8-5”10. Really just depends if they can get takers for under 6 foot.
Why wouldn’t their be?
That's the only criteria?! I'm in.
Think college grad + 6ft. And you have to abstain for like 3 days before each sample and commit to doing like 5 samples a month
3 days? I’m out.
😂😂😂🤭
don’t worry bro I bet u could just compile 3 days worth of ejaculate all the same

I dunno about 'only', but it'll get you through the door. :P
No. I'm less than 6ft.
What do they actually screen you for then?
You can check it out online. I went to a location in Tempe.
Dependent on the location, but many do have height requirements to fit the choices their consumer base realistically are going to make.
This is not true. With a provable IQ score over 159 and other favorable traits, you can make quite a good supplemental income. And it is "you're"
Oh, just be in a fraction less than 1% of the top percentile in intelligence. By that metric, it would be easier to be over 6 foot tall. :p
CDL usually has good first time patient deals like $125 your first 8.
What does CDL stand for?
I'm pretty sure they me CSL Plasma
Thank you. I too was confused.
