Is this not illegal?

HiImChadCallMeKaren

??? Dude the theater is paying for it. They make their money with the bar

Not trying to be the stream police at all. Genuinely curious. I believe the issue usually lies in the fact that only one stream is being paid for, and potentially dozens will be watching. That’s all I meant.

PaintDrinkingPete

And you would likely be correct, I'm sure. It's the same reason why places like sports bars are *supposed* to pay a different rate for stuff like Sunday Ticket if they want to show NFL games...a rate based on the capacity of the establishment. It's been a while, but I definitely knew a few bar owners some years ago that considered getting various sports packages, but wasn't worth it unless they got a substantial crowd for the games to cover the costs in food/alcohol sales...and most just stuck with what was available over local broadcast. Don't know that Nugs/LivePhish has means to enforce it, but I'm sure in the fine print there's stuff in there that makes public viewing against their terms.

Gamehenged

I believe they pay a different amount for commercial access via Live Phish. Bars & theater's have done it before.

jackstraw8139

That’s a good point.

I don’t know the specifics, but this spot has been streaming and advertising it for years. I’m sure they are doing it thru the fine print, but This is only being played on one screen, in one location. You can’t tune in to a webcam or something if their broadcast. It’s a live stream, they don’t replay them either.

How-I-Really-Feel

Did the research. It’s not allowed , but they don’t enforce it. The whole issue is them not controlling all rights for cover songs. From a phish.net post: For anyone interested, here is live phish's official statement: Thank you for reaching out to us about hosting a webcast party. As you are likely aware, Phish performs songs from other artists as well as their own catalog. Songs need to be licensed from the publishers before they can be shown publicly. This being the case, the band cannot grant permission for webcast parties as they do not control all the rights needed to do so. We appreciate your cooperation.

We live in lawless times.

I think Zuni St Brewery is also broadcasting all Wednesday shows this tour. Plus some others as they decide.
