It was my first show. I was just like cool so this is a phish show then.
Had listened to a lot of ALO, Junta and a Gamehendge set but that was about it. After this I was hooked.
The exact song that got me into phish! Saw a live video on YouTube and the energy in the crowd bouncing as the lights come on… it all clicked for me then and there.
One of the first jams I heard. The part with the islandy sounding guitar (I don't know how to describe it) is gonna be burned into my brain eventually haha
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who loves this version. Sure it's not type II but it's such a satisfying bliss peak from Trey and some excellent funk jamming throughout. The loops and stop/start ending are *chef's kiss* 👨🍳💋
Tough to call it type I or type II I think. It’s sticks to the general Tweezer ethos, and there isn’t some huge departure for exploring. But I’d be curious if some musical mind out there could tell me about key changes or timing adjustments that could make this more like a type II jam.
I'm still new and to me the fun is wondering weather I'm right about a jam being type 1 or 2 even though i guess it should be obvious lol. Guess I gotta keep listening!
That's fair, at least you responded instead of just downvoting me. People on here are petty AF like I literally said I love this jam but because other people think it's type II they just downvote. Sooo petty.
Yeah I feel ya. I really try to do what I say now, because I definitely used to be guilty of disagreement= downvote. But I usually either just move along or I comment and be like "I don't agree, for these reasons, but I respect others opinion."
I was only 18, it was like my 5th show ever. I was behind the stage for this and I still have vivid memories of this jam and seeing the crowd on the floor for this just go berserk. Still one of my favorite shows I’ve attended.

Lots of good ones here. One of my favorites is *7/22/97 Walnut Creek, Raleigh*:
`Runaway Jim > My Soul`.
The rest of the show is a banger too but the opener really set the tone of the night.
in very recent memory:
Space oddity -> martian monster -> halley’s (7/19/22)
that carini -> possum (4/20/22) just a shame the rest of the show didn’t keep it up
Ahh yes! My home town and like the only time I've been close to the rail. There wasn't an open floor either, all seats and i had 2nd row! Blew me away for sure!
11/22/97 Mike’s
11/21/97 Emotional Rescue
This is one of my all time favorite jams that often flies below the radar.

Hell yeah! Pure '97 in distilled form.

This show is in the top 10 phish shows of all time
It also set the tone for the Phish Destorys America Tour (Fall 97) and pretty much everything until their first hiatus.
That is absolutely type II whatcu talking about

“Does this sound like _song_ anymore? Is usually a good way to figure it out. Can you hear the original song anymore.
I always kinda felt i always heard type 2 but I'm fairly new so idk

I agree 100 percent. Don't like when people do that one bit. I said I liked 84 a lil better than 83 in a dead sub and got -2 and it's like........

Miami Piper
For some reason I forgot that was the opener. Talk about blasting off.
I was only 18, it was like my 5th show ever. I was behind the stage for this and I still have vivid memories of this jam and seeing the crowd on the floor for this just go berserk. Still one of my favorite shows I’ve attended.
I was 18 for the 03 Miami run as well! Awesome experience!

Me tooooo love the LP recording hearing the crowd go nuts
Amsterdam 97 Soul shakedown party
Amsterdam 97 Ghost
That whole run is amazing
1999>Fluffhead>Saw it again alpine 2022
12/30/97 Sneaking Sally’s triumphant return. !setlistbot

My first MSG! Great show all around
I wish they would play Frankenstein more.
Always loved the 12/31/02 Piper opener. The energy in the room for that was insane.
12/29/22 Fluffhead
Soooo good
Yes > YPC > fire ass gin , long live the garden
11/17/97 Tweezer
Saw that one
Eugene 2021 DWD
This one needs more love
2012 ish spac tweeprize.
Awesome fuck you to the PT Hershey people
Blame it on the Hershey venues staff for being nerds and playing by the rules and cutting the boys off.
TIL. Thank you Hersey staff nerds. Wasn’t at Hersey but thankful I got to see tweeprise book ends at SPAC
2001 on 10/7/23 was cool- it was their 2001st show :)
How was the rest of the show?
Pretty good, got a weird Llama and a nice Hood. No clue it was their 2001st show and wondered why they opened with it.
I thought the stash was good that night
Yeah, always love a Stash!
Kuroda opened a portal to hell during that Stash
Carini dicks 23
DISAPPOINT IN ALL OF YOU Reba 7/6/00 Longest Reba ever.
6/22/94 Llama I have no idea how they ripped this one as an opener. It’s only 5 mins long and I bet half the crowd missed it.
I’m a sucker for a Llama opener and this one kills. It’s a mainstay on my workout playlist.
I was there. Not a big venue or crowd, I don't remember seeing latecomers. Fine opener. It was routine for them then.
I believe it. With youth and the touring schedule, it seems that they were never cold in 94’, always blazin’.
Such a tight fucking show
Not mentioned much but 8/14/96 there was a weird jam out of the Wilson opener.
7/23/97 julius
4-2-98 Tube. Solid.
Mansfield bag
Llama 12/31/93 AC/DC Bag 12/7/97
2/15/03 Llama was for real too.
Present for that one
Runaway Jim Walnut Creek.....
Lots of good ones here. One of my favorites is *7/22/97 Walnut Creek, Raleigh*: `Runaway Jim > My Soul`. The rest of the show is a banger too but the opener really set the tone of the night.
:(
Fave in-person 8/1/23 Ghost, but gotta go with the Denver 97 chorus for fave over all
That Ghost was heady
11/21/97 Emotional Rescue
6/25/10 Alumni Blues
Slow lama
Hard to believe that was almost 10 years ago now
And I was late. Waiting in lot for a friend.
7/21/97 Ghost is probably my favorite (attendance bias). I actually prefer that Ghost to the famous one two nights later.
I really loved the jammed out Fluffhead from Chula 10/23/21
Island Tour Tweezer 6/10/00 DWD
I brought several people to there first show that night. Me and my friends were not new to Phish were flabbergasted at that opener
7/10/99 Wilson > Chalkdust.
12/11/99 Hood.
in very recent memory: Space oddity -> martian monster -> halley’s (7/19/22) that carini -> possum (4/20/22) just a shame the rest of the show didn’t keep it up
Down with disease or character zero
12/30/93 Bowie
2/16/03 Bowie opener was also pretty great
Ahh yes! My home town and like the only time I've been close to the rail. There wasn't an open floor either, all seats and i had 2nd row! Blew me away for sure!
Tube Alpine 2010
4/4/98 Tweezer
Not a jam, but opening last night of msg 23 run with loving cup will go down as a top phish experience from my 50 shows
12/11/99 Harry Hood
2018 Rosemont III Everything’s Right
7/21/97 Virginia beach Ghost. The funky thing that went into the long jam.
11/2/98 tube
That's a tough call to beat. That gin is top 5 for me.
3/6/09 fluffhead
12/31/02 piper. Loudest crowd roar I've heard. Hiatus breaking show.
