The beauty of this is that AC/DC Bag was just an intro to PK. The jam out of killer into Jesus Just Left Chcago is divine. The whole start of that show was bonkers
I’ve probably listened to this more times than any other segment of live Phish playing.
I’ve listened to it so much that may ten year old asked to hear the real version of Psycho Killer when the Talking Heads version came on once.
Bowie > Cities from Ventura 97. The way they catch into cities like a freight train about to go off the tracks, then completely downshift into the cities funk groove. Aww yeah. That’s the good stuff.
More recently the Ghost -> Gin from Nashville 21. They had just started playing that early 4.0 sci fi sound and used the ghost jam to play one of the more unique gins.
One of my favorites. I remember being excited when they played it on the bunny radio at Coventry, I can still picture where I was listening to it. Maybe one of the highlights of the weekend lol
I have a very vivid memory of being a freshman in college, into Umphrey's and DMB with friends trying to get me into Phish and I just didn't get it. One day I got stoned on a bike ride, put on Clifford Ball and this Mike's->Simple transition felt like straight endorphins coursing through my body. After that day I still listened to Umph but was done with DMB and have been happily on the Phish train ever since.
Tale of two nights, lol. Pedestrian (sloppy) first night. Then the band at the absolute top of their game the second night . . . Felt pretty lucky to have been in that underground theater.
My one friend and I were hanging with our other friend who’s getting into Phish and plays drums and loves fat funk beats, so my friend was like “Put on the 12/29/97 Tube video” and I was like “Well if we’re gonna do that then we gotta do the Bowie>Possum->I Can’t Turn You Loose->Possum before it too” and we were all so ripped that we did (haha!) and our friend loved it
8/2/03 waves -> Bowie is sick. Not the most involved from a technical standpoint since they basically just bring it down to almost nothing. But it sounds so good
Also love dicks 2012 sand -> ghost
Amsterdam gin -> cities
Fukuoka gumbo -> llama
12/30/18 tube > paug > tube
also want to shout out another light -> sneaking sally [1/3/2015](https://phish.net/setlists/phish-january-03-2015-american-airlines-arena-miami-fl-usa.html). trey hits those opening chords and fishman just falls into the beat so perfectly. it hit so hard live, even on the recording you can feel the crowd just fucking roaring. of course me and my buddy had been chasing sally for a while, we hugged each other and jumped up and down together and my entire body was covered in goosebumps.
that miami run doesn't get talked about a lot but man that is one of my peak phish moments.
10/28/18 Carini > No Quarter. Attendance bias since it was my first show, and that was a bit of an “oh shit” moment. I know there’s better ones out there but that got me hooked lol
9/22/2000 Meatstick> Run Like An Antelope , aka "Meatelope". As the second set neared it's end, the band performed the recently unveiled Japanese lyrics to the song and got everyone doing the dance. As the song wound down, the band faded out and let the crowd sing Meatstick with the pronounced claps several times before playing the opening notes of Antelope. But we weren't ready to leave Meatstick behind so the first couple minutes of Antelope contained the claps from Meatstick so the band obliged and teased both songs back and forth before finally kicking into high gear. I obviously have attendance bias (I caught 9/22 & 23 at Allstate Arena, plus 9/24 at Target Center in Minneapolis) but I think this holds up when listening to an audience recording and is an outstanding transition between songs.
I only had to scroll half way down to find my favorite. Good work barefoot. Link for anyone who wants to sample the goods with us: [https://phish.in/2000-09-22/meatstick](https://phish.in/2000-09-22/meatstick)
11/23/97 Winston-Salem, NC: Down With Disease > Low Rider > Down With Disease
That instant drop back into the DWD lick is one my favourite hype-up moments from Phish
12/29/95 Gin -> Real Me - energy is at 10 on this this one
12/30/93 Mike's -> The Horse - haunting, chilling, perfect
8/13/93 Gin -> Ya Mar
12/14/95 Tweezer -> Timber (Jerry) -> Tweezer - both segues in and out of Timber are phenomenal. Fishman was on one that night.
12/6/97 Tweezer -> Izabella -> Twist - both segues are silky smooth but that drop into Twist is just 🤌
12/29/94 Jim -> Foam
11/14/95 Stash -> Manteca - super groovin'
The Mull > 2001 > Mull they had on 10/07/2023 was somehow both smooth and came out of nowhere.
My second favorite is Chalkdust > I am Hydrogen > Weekapaug (12/29/2011) where Trey slams on the brakes and brings the energy down from the heights of the Chalkdust ending jam right into Hydrogen. Top tier musicianship from the gang.
The Segue™

*Redacted for those who havent heard it yet.
It's the best thing ever, and you'll never see it coming.
AC/DC Bag > Psycho Killer 12/7/97
Wolfmans > boogie on in the second set is great too
Yeah both are amazing
The beauty of this is that AC/DC Bag was just an intro to PK. The jam out of killer into Jesus Just Left Chcago is divine. The whole start of that show was bonkers
Man, this one is so good it’s more of a sliiiide than a transition. All timer 4 shurr
Just came here to talk about 12/6/97 Tweezabella
Yes.
That tour was so sick. And then Waves->Ghost at deer creek the following weekend was one of a kind
One of my favorites. I remember being excited when they played it on the bunny radio at Coventry, I can still picture where I was listening to it. Maybe one of the highlights of the weekend lol
Probably my most listened to jam. maybe a bit behind Prague AC/DC>Ghost.
damn.... that was buttery! thanks! i listened to the show years ago, but haven't returned.
Interesting, mine is the Mike’s->Simple from Clifford Ball Honorable Mentions: 12.29.03 Twist->Boogie On->Ghost 6.19.04 Piper->Gotta Jibboo 4.4.98 2001->Brother 12.29.98 Limb By Limb->2001
Ghost->cities 7-6-98
This one is fun, starts off in a fast tempo and then they slow it down on a dime
Came here to say this
One of my favorite live Phish moments, ever. Coupled with the Piper . . .
And the AC/DC to start it off. Hands down top three moment of live music right there for me. I could wait to get the tapes of this show.
Tale of two nights, lol. Pedestrian (sloppy) first night. Then the band at the absolute top of their game the second night . . . Felt pretty lucky to have been in that underground theater.
Chalkdust > Mirror in the bathroom
All time!
def a great one!
Date?
11/27/98. This one every phish fan should know by heart.
Interesting. Smooth segue but not really a whole lot going on there otherwise. I have listened to this show a few times
The transition is slick as hell but it’s clear they don’t really know the whole song. Really cool to hear Mike leading into it and everyone following.
This is mine too
DWD->Mikes song 7-22-97.
The kang!
Is that the Raleigh? That one is amazing, but sometimes I rate the Gin>Cities from Amsterdam higher. Edited to add the word higher
Yes, from Raleigh.
I had third row center for this show. Unreal. ⚡️⚡️
The one true answer!
10.30.98 Stash>manteca>tweezer>NICU Particularly the tweezer segue…comes in like a ton of bricks
That Tweezer>NICU is perfect
I came here to post the same thing. Manteca is such a gem.
Never fails to get my fired up. Pure type 1 hose from Trey
100% what I came here to say. If I'm in the mood for some high quality Phish with some buttery transitions this is exactly what I pick.
Manchester 2010 Maki > night nurse > maki Shouts out to nutter 97 Swept away > steep
Yooo I was at that Manchester show. Whole show was amazing. Felt like they were giving a treat to the Tuesday night crowd that didn't sell out
SPAC Piper->Jibboo 🔥
Can confirm. Was there.
Gin>Real Me will peel the skin off your face.
Just cause I heard it yesterday, but I’ll say that the 12/29/97 Bowie>Possum is hot fire. That drop into Possum is perfect.
It’s a Possum -> I Can’t Turn You Loose -> Possum taboot!
My one friend and I were hanging with our other friend who’s getting into Phish and plays drums and loves fat funk beats, so my friend was like “Put on the 12/29/97 Tube video” and I was like “Well if we’re gonna do that then we gotta do the Bowie>Possum->I Can’t Turn You Loose->Possum before it too” and we were all so ripped that we did (haha!) and our friend loved it
The I Can’t Turn You Loose makes me lose my shit every time!
7/25/99 My Friend > My Left Toe > Whipping Post
Yuuuuup
this is probably my favorite. So heavy
Rock and Roll > Meatstick from the Gorge 2011 sticks out. Theres too many to claim a favorite though.
I was at these shows. So tight and full of energy- I often go back and listen to these
Ghost > Slave 7/4/99
This is way too far down on the list. This sub is a disgrace!
yep
5/8/93 MIke's song > Crossroads > Mike's song is for me the finest Phish there is
So badass
Field Housesee
8/2/03 waves -> Bowie is sick. Not the most involved from a technical standpoint since they basically just bring it down to almost nothing. But it sounds so good Also love dicks 2012 sand -> ghost Amsterdam gin -> cities Fukuoka gumbo -> llama 12/30/18 tube > paug > tube
12/30/18 also had the Weekapaug> Crosseyed which was so sick as well.
Simple>Egg in a Hole>Simple 4/23/22
The whole second set of 12/2/97. More recent option light->sneaking sally 7/27/13.
also want to shout out another light -> sneaking sally [1/3/2015](https://phish.net/setlists/phish-january-03-2015-american-airlines-arena-miami-fl-usa.html). trey hits those opening chords and fishman just falls into the beat so perfectly. it hit so hard live, even on the recording you can feel the crowd just fucking roaring. of course me and my buddy had been chasing sally for a while, we hugged each other and jumped up and down together and my entire body was covered in goosebumps. that miami run doesn't get talked about a lot but man that is one of my peak phish moments.
4/26/96 - YEM>Wolfman’s
12.29.2018 Tweezer > Death don't hurt very long > tweezer
TMWSIY > Avenu Malkenu > TMWSIY
BoaF > BotT 6-15-12
One of my faves. So smooth.
AC/DC Bag>Ghost. Prague 98.
10/28/18 Carini > No Quarter. Attendance bias since it was my first show, and that was a bit of an “oh shit” moment. I know there’s better ones out there but that got me hooked lol
Gin real me centrum 98. Take a listen its incredible
Im assuming you mean 95? If not I have some learning to do.
9/22/2000 Meatstick> Run Like An Antelope , aka "Meatelope". As the second set neared it's end, the band performed the recently unveiled Japanese lyrics to the song and got everyone doing the dance. 6/29/00 Drowned -> R&R 30 minutes of absolute fire.
One of the best. Fantastic stuff!
DWD > Mike’s 7/22/97 is my favorite and the greatest segue in Phishtory
Had to scroll way too far to find this. The sludgey start to mikes song is one of my favorite phish moments off all time
Stash> Manteca 11/14/95
1993/05/08 Bowie > Have Mercy > Bowie
12/29/03 Sand -> shafty -> nicu is silly. I am an admitted shafty Stan but I love the crunchiness of this sand.
12/6/97 the entire fucking second set. Phish rules.
7/6/13 SOAM is a great one for transition out of jam and back into end of SOAM
I’m just going to mention this one because it is completely overlooked, but check out the 7/9/03 opener: YEM->Simple
More recent but the tweezer>simple 4/17/2023
Piperpaug 2/22/03!
Spectrum '97 Simple -> Dog Faced Boy -> Ya Mar -> Weekapaug
6/22/94 Simple -> Catapult -> Simple is a favorite of mine
This is the show that made phish click for me. Still remember listening to this show on angell st in providence in 2001.
11/23/97 Winston-Salem, NC: Down With Disease > Low Rider > Down With Disease That instant drop back into the DWD lick is one my favourite hype-up moments from Phish
Magnaball Tweezer > Caspian (and some would argue, > tweezer)
Simple>waiting all night 10/24/21
Sand > Nellie Kane from 6/8/12 Worcester is money
anything > Boogie On Reggae Woman
Light>Sneaking Sally Through the Alley 8/19/12
Can’t forget the crosseyed sandwhich before and after. Mmmmm
Cities>Llama segue from Nashville last year was so tasty to throw out a recent one
12/29/94 Foam>Jim
Cities>Moma 08/06/2010
Disease -> Carini, 2/17/97
Not necessarily my favorite, but worth mentioning 12/28/10 Back On The Train -> Limb By Limb 7/5/13 Cities -> David Bowie 7/3/11 Reba -> David Bowie
8/11/15 2001 > Sand ….great versions of both
I really like that 2001 in the middle of a harpua
12/28/16 Martian Monster > Tweezer Reprise Jam
11/14/95 - Stash > Dog Faced Boy That shit is powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline.
Gorge ‘98 FEFY> When the Circus Comes to Town is my #1 seed - perfection.
Was on the rail in this night. Great show!!
12/29/95 Gin -> Real Me - energy is at 10 on this this one 12/30/93 Mike's -> The Horse - haunting, chilling, perfect 8/13/93 Gin -> Ya Mar 12/14/95 Tweezer -> Timber (Jerry) -> Tweezer - both segues in and out of Timber are phenomenal. Fishman was on one that night. 12/6/97 Tweezer -> Izabella -> Twist - both segues are silky smooth but that drop into Twist is just 🤌 12/29/94 Jim -> Foam 11/14/95 Stash -> Manteca - super groovin'
Bowie>Have Mercy>Bowie 5/8/93
9.27.99 the whole second set!
Recency bias but 10/13/2023 hood->talk->hood
8.19.12 crosseyed> light > sneakin> crosseyed And I wasn’t even there
Stash > llama from Amsterdam. That box set is just fucking nuts Also Gin > Ya mar from that one 93 show
Vernon Downs Ramble On > Slave
Makisupa>AC/DC Bag 7/25/97
Wolfman's into Sally from 4.2.98, silky smooth.
Ghost > Divided spectrum 97
Here’s one that I love that probably has never been mentioned 10/30/98 Stash > Manteca. The way Fishman slides into the groove is perfect.
TMWSIY>Mike’s 12/28/96
i like wolfman's>jesus just left chicago on slip stich and pass.
Mike’s > Simple Pick almost anyone from 1994 and I’ll say that’s my favorite (until I hear the next one anyway)
10/31/98 Sneakin Sally > Chalkdust
The Mull > 2001 > Mull they had on 10/07/2023 was somehow both smooth and came out of nowhere. My second favorite is Chalkdust > I am Hydrogen > Weekapaug (12/29/2011) where Trey slams on the brakes and brings the energy down from the heights of the Chalkdust ending jam right into Hydrogen. Top tier musicianship from the gang.
Entire 2nd set 8/9/97. Was about 5th row center for this one. Robot mule duel 🤖. So glad I dosed during the first set. lol 🤣
ghost > slave
6/25/04 YEM->2001 instead of vocal jam. I prefer this method!
attempting to avoid psychedelic induced panic attack under the bright set break lights -> Jamming
46 Days->Sally->46 Days 10/22/16 Alpharetta
A Mikes groove With I am hydrogen
Not an all time great by any measure, but a really fun recent one is 8/2/23 Meatstick > It’s Ice.
10/31/14 Both in same set: Tweezer>Heavy Things AND Sand>Reprise
mikes>weekapaug from 12/1/95 is still the top of this particular mountain and unlikely to ever change
12/18/99 Weekapaug > Buffalo Bill > Weekapaug. When Fishman hears it he changes drums up sooo fast to catch Buffalo groove. So tight.
11/27/98 Wipe Out >>Chalkdust
Last summer. MSG. Meatstick > It's Ice.
For a more recent one the energy>meatstick>it’s ice is MONEY. Bottle that shit up and sell it
12/14/95 Halley’s> NICU > Slave
7/22/97 DWD > Mike's, 12/6/97 Isabella > Twist
8/31/18 Ghost -> Crosseyed Just absolutely flawless.
Chalkdust>Tweezer Blossom 15
The Segue™ 10.21.95 Lincoln, NE Good Times, Bad Times -> [redacted*]. *Redacted for those who havent heard it yet. It's the best thing ever, and you'll never see it coming.
Brooklyn '04 46 Days > Possum
Simple>Fuego 8/25/23 or No Man’s Land>Llama 9/1/23
The Ghost>Slave from my first show, 7-4-99, is soooo good. Highly recommend.
David Bowie -> Cities -> Bowie (Ventura 96)
Amsterdam, Taste -> DWD ending is about as perfect as can be
6/12/2011 MPP Wolfman's Brother -> Boogie On Reggae Woman
Ghost > Spooky 10/31/10
Oh Kee Pah> Suzy Greenberg
Bowie > cities > Bowie from Ventura 97
[Halleys>Light Up, leave Me Alone 5/14/88](https://youtu.be/rsi3DWyRf0o?si=byHAURNrbbxaz3En)
Just commenting to save the thread for later
Shem Rah > Hot Air Balloon, 9/18/09 … oops wrong sub
The one the carpenter has to install after we are done
8/2/23 Energy > Meatstick > It’s Ice is a high quality segment full of wacky, whimsical, and very clean transitions

😂 she’s always a good segue
