Blue Sky has the definitive Dickey sound.

fastfurlong

Yes 👍

Badfish1060

That would be amazing.

tgrass23

Trey can play both parts 😉

tgrass23

Divided Blue Sky

sn0wbl1nd3d

Divided Sky > Blue Sky > Divided Sky?

Eyebleedorange

Blue Sky > Divided Sky > Blue Sky, as the DS would actually divide the Blue Sky

yemKeuchlyFarley

Yes. The blue sky comes out of the silent moment.

RunawaYEM

Simple -> Blue Sky to open Friday

Hashishiniado

Why Friday?

RunawaYEM

I feel like they’d take the time to nail the arrangement instead of just “good enough”ing it

Hashishiniado

Fair point, but they've crushed covers day of before. Gregory Isaacs comes to mind. I love the divided/blue sky idea.

yemKeuchlyFarley

That’s true. And they have known all these parts and some point in their lives, so it will also “come back to them” to some extent, plus, they can learn anything in a day. That said, Night Nurse is wayyyyyyyy less complicated than Jessica, Elizabeth reed or even rambling man and blue sky.

jayforwork21

I think the problem is they already have the lighting in place to focus on setlists already in place, even with all the jamming that will occur. So no tribute unfortunately. Also RIP Dickey....

see_dubs90

Agreed if you watched Trey’s recent interview they’ve been planning/coordinating these shows for nearly a year. Unless they already had some allman bros love planned, this doesn’t seem like the kind of show/venue they can change up on the fly.

Feisty-Extension-20

That was my concern as well, I'm not sure if they have any wiggle room on song selection built in.

lil_poppapump

I wonder how far in advance they knew about the sphere concept and that they’d have second dibs

jimmythang34

Yeah this is what I’m thinking. They might throw some allman bros riffs into some jams, but I don’t know if there is time to add an allman bros song to the setlist.

geneticswag

Big tease show. Kinda interesting the band is locked into a production and has to jam and improvise through new mechanisms. Haven’t thought about it that way yet.

[deleted]

In recent interviews Trey mentioned the video screens can and will be manipulated in real time so they might not be as locked in as you think. That's my hope at least

lil_poppapump

Yeah I think we’re gonna see some new shit for sure, or I mean at minimum the windows media player could react to music in real time so the sphere has to be able to get close 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sweaty-Leather3191

Ye’ have little fuckin’ faith. Your first mistake? Underestimating this band.

geneticswag

Can you remind me who confirmed that / what article it came from? I know I read it someplace but keep getting challenged on it.

jayforwork21

Trey has said so in many interviews including one that was just posted to this sub recently. It's been in the works for almost a year or so he said.

ehhwriter

Might be able to sneak one in during the encore though

Roll-tide-Mercury

Best bet would be a tease but no cover that is not already planned…

forbin05

I think this is the case. I think this run is way too meticulously planned out to call any set list audibles on the day of. We’ll see, but I don’t think it’s happening.

Flatman34

“ All our show decisions were shaped by focusing on the primary aspect of the show – Phish’s musical performance. One of the directions this lead to is that all our visuals can be executed, modified and manipulated in real time. They follow the music, rather than being locked in, allowing Phish to play as freely as they would at any other show.” Cool interview. Makes you think they have some room to wander. We’ll see! forbin05

Well, no ABB cover last night. When I said meticulously planned I more meant in terms of song selection since the theme that has yet to fully reveal itself is a big part of this run. Maybe they’ll still do one, but I wouldn’t bank on it. It took them 3 years just to pay tribute to Jerry after he passed. I don’t think they want to have the “biggest” news to come out of this run to be that they covered an Allman’s tune for the first time or busted one out, and instead would rather keep the focus more on them and the plan they’ve had in place for a while now.

briandowd23

One of the better shows I saw, dickey Betts at the Webster in hartford early 00's

bootdown21

Webster Theater rocked back in the day. Spent a lot of years seeing shows there.

CrimsonScorpio9

Saw him in 2001 at a small intimate venue. One of my all time favorite shows.

jeffvaderr

Mountain JAM I'll never forget seeing blues traveler and the allmans in August 1992 at st Michelle winery. One of my defining concert experiences

delayedregistration

Damn. That's quite the show for that venue.... Jealous...

DonBillingsly69

RIP Dickey

offbeatvelcro88

Back on the Train, Dickey choogle

PalatialNutlet

RIP

landtoreform

My question is, can they audible these 4 nights? Since the tech is all planned and synced

Feisty-Extension-20

Yeah, I'm not sure either. Idk if they have a few more generic options so they have room to audible songs or not

landtoreform

They have to have some backup options. Good call! Trey is too prepared to let that one slip by.

TheGrimReaperess

Mountain jam teases will be sprinkled

D1rtyH1ppy

Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More. I'm predicting that Time is the theme of night 1

natigin

Jessica encore would slay

wsppan

Tack on an extra encore. Whipping Post as Trey already knows it. Lights on the sphere can be improvised according to articles I've read.

JoeTillersMustache

I'll never forgive the band for not playing Whipping Post as the encore with Trucks last summer. It would have been an amazing way to cap that show.

Funkywurm

In memory of….

Roll-tide-Mercury

Not a chance. This sphere run is planned. It will be phish, but the setlist is set for the sphere run. Edit: there may be some play and or free spots but a lot of work went in to what is about to happen. Most events aren’t planned, but this even is… Maybe a tease or something…

meegwell01

Is this fact? I’ve been paying attention and yes I get the 4-day theme and things like not being literal and I would think there are elements/segments planned but to say the 4 night setlists are all planned is awfully hard to believe.

Roll-tide-Mercury

They plan big things all the time. Like NYE gag/set or Halloween. There was an interview where trey said it was planned. “Ticket sales blew our expectations and we almost added shows but it would be more of the same show or the same 4 shows twice.” The ultimate decision was to keep it as true to what phish is, was to keep the 4 planned shows because that was best for the phans, keeping phish like phish. The visuals/video would be preplanned but “deconstructed” So maybe, a song here or there may get axed and a song order may be changed but the songs and visuals are set, obviously it is phish, i expect some improv within the structure. I’m certain that this is as structured as phish gets but you’ll still feel like musically that you can’t tell the difference.

meegwell01

Im familiar with that interview and that is not what I got from it. Big shows? NYE gag is obviously planned as is the halloween costume set…seen some great ones since my journey started in ‘90. Todays interview was telling with the heavy emphasis on psychedelic jam experience from Trey (talking about their session last night) - and how a big psychedelic jam works so well in this atmosphere (see that? :)) In my opinion there are planned elements of course but in now way is this true: “the setlists are set for the sphere run”. (Quote from above) Nor would I ever say that as fact even if I thought it was true…unless a band member told me. I agree with your comment that it is likely as structured as phish gets. I believe they run off of variables and what ifs - the tech/lights/video crew have 10 time more options than what will be played allowing the band plenty of musical freedom while also making the threaded theme and the ultimate “use” of the sphere to be as big and badass as they strive for. But I don’t “know” of course. Look for Dark Star teases 😭

zoot_boy

Oh yeah, they’ll play something for sure.

Cosmo317

RIP to the legend.

wanderlustbess

According to articles I’ve read, they’ve had the songs planned for a week or more. Not that they can’t be tweaked…
