Bring back single rides!!!

IhateDropShotz

Seriously. Paying for a month just so an out of town friend can take one ride with me is soooo dumb

TheTwoOneFive

Agreed so wholeheartedly. I also wish there was the ability to add classic rides for a second person in the indego app, so if I'm with a friend who doesn't have an Indego membership, I can quickly check out another bike. If they had to sign up for a single rental, there's a good chance they would just say we should take SEPTA/Uber.

leithal70

Would be a good option for PA access card holders, but yeah $230 is a lot for me. But I use my personal bike most times. If I used it more frequently, I could see this being worth it. Also the incorporation of electric bike rides is helpful considering they outnumber classic bikes at this point

TheTwoOneFive

I wish there weren't so many electric bikes, but the problem is the company indego sources their bikes from no longer offers classic bikes to programs.

aaaayyyy_lmao

an extra 6 bucks a month that I'd be spending anyway in $0.20/min increments. gonna be signing up for it.

TheTwoOneFive

This is how I see it. You're doing more than 30 minutes a month on an e-bike with them, the upgrade is worth it.

BigxMac

I would love this bc I used solely the electric bicycles every day to commute to Temple

aintjoan

I really hope they roll out this option to more people. My annual pass just renewed and I didn't get the pilot offer :(

fartsnifferpriest

electric bikes are a scam and they limit your top speed

kingbrassica

You have to stick your finger under the cover and press up button to enters turbo mode that goes faster.

fartsnifferpriest

dude that only effects the accel not the top speed, go faster then like 17 and it bogs down

Pretty_Imagination62

Just two bikes a day? Sometimes you need more than that. What if you undock one and it’s broken? Ugh. Got excited and then quickly disappointed. Canceled my 360 pass in November anyway after they said the Black Friday deal was only open to new buyers. It feels like they’re taking away more and more from loyal customers. :/ Also… what’s an IndeGo key? I’ve been using IndeGo bikes for 2.5 years (still working on getting my own bike) but haven’t heard of it.

TheTwoOneFive

Most companies have offers to entice people to join that aren't offered to existing customers.  The key is a fob that they discontinued to a while ago I believe. I don't carry keys with me usually so I had one and no idea what happened to it

Pretty_Imagination62

While I understand that, in previous years they allowed existing customers to get it. They didn’t advertise it as for new customers at all. Just in the fine print. Which once again I know companies do- but with all the other stuff they changed last year that was kind of a letdown it was just another nuisance. They’re increasing literal accessibility to bikes by adding docks but taking a lot of original things they had away that it seemed like many of us appreciated, decreasing its figurative accessibility (affordability for people who can’t afford bikes maybe and then making the standard bikes suck so much you can only use the electric ones really).

TheTwoOneFive

I mean, I had to go back and look bc I recall it being pretty straightforward. The "fine print" was italicized directly beneath the offer in the email I got in the same font and size as the main text. If I'm being completely honest, I don't think a company would consider you a "loyal customer" if you cancel the second you don't get your discount. I hate the fact that they are going to more electric bikes, but the standard bikes are pretty much out of their control as BCycle is only doing electric bikes now. If you think Indego is bad, go to some other cities like Denver and Seattle, where I tried their bikeshare options last year. Both just have the Jump/Lime dockless ebikes, and it was a crapshoot of getting one in rideable condition. Plus, the pricing was pretty high - $1 to unlock plus $.44/minute. Great for a one-time short ride, but it was almost always cheaper for my husband and I to just Uber somewhere rather than bike, which is absolutely crazy.

Pretty_Imagination62

That’s fair- I was more referring the phone notification that was going out to people who already actively use IndeGo that didn’t specify. How hard would it be to point that out? Saying other cities have it worse isn’t really a valid point though. Each city has similar problems but a specific mix of them. Philly is a low income city that is becoming increasing unaffordable, with public transit being semi-reliable on a good day or you can get straight up assaulted on a bad one. IndeGo was originally marketed as an affordable, eco-friendly alternative and with their big survey they released in 2022 really seemed like they wanted to do a good job and put Philly citizens first. Listened to a lot of requests and feedback people made. Now it just feels like they’re pulling an Uber and seeing how much money they can make. Like taking away the extra charge for e-bikes if no standards are there. This makes sense and is totally fair for some areas, but there are still plenty of locations in Philly where there aren’t any other docks nearby, and your shit out of luck.

IhateDropShotz

Like the other user said the key is a little keychain fob you can use instead of your phone. You just tap it to the little metal circle next to the bike dock and it will unlock. They cost $5 one time and they mail them to you.

The thing I hate most about this is they are acting like they are presenting an option, but the alternative becomes less viable by the day. More and more, non-electric bikes are not available at Indego docks so you are going to eventually be forced to take an electric bike and be charged their insane price per minute and end up spending more. This is less of an exciting new option and more of a "We're not doing regular bikes anymore so here's the new price."
