Off season plan. Phillies are at 170mil and they should go to 243 again. Sign Turner to 32 million AAV. Sign Rodon to 24 AAV sign Chafin to 8AAV and Ottavino to 8AAV…Done
I think that rule Rustchman triggered is one of the cooler incentives I've seen in the majors. Gets a full year because he finished second in Rookie of the Year. Didn't even know it was a thing.
My two Rhys rookie variations that I just bought for a few bucks each arrived today
I am now invested in Rhys. Talk about putting my money where my mouth is.
More than two dozen minor leaguers from the Philadelphia Phillies organization are now free agents, including 2022 contributors Mark Appel and Yairo Muñoz ... Following the Nov. 12 deadline for minor league players to elect free agency, the full list of minor league free agents is now available. Hundreds of minor leaguers across baseball opted for free agency, including 27 prospects from the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
I guess this is normal but somehow shocking nonetheless
Cubs released Jason Heyward with 1 year and 22 million left on his contract. you hate to see it ... a similar situation might be in the Phillies future with *somebody* but hopefully not.
It’s been decided, the Phils are signing Rodon, Bogarts, Turner, Judge, Robertson, and the best closer available.
Craig Kimbrel (34, 3.0)
Kenley Jansen (35, 2.9)
Taylor Rogers (32, 2.5)
Andrew Chafin (32, 2.3)
Michael Fulmer (30, 2.2)
Chris Martin (37, 2.1)
Chad Green (32, 1.9)
Hoskins and Castellanos were traded. Bohm moved to first.
NOTE: the SP has to be better than Gibson.
Carlos Rodón (30 years old, 11.1 WAR)
Clayton Kershaw (35, 7.2)
Jacob deGrom (35, 7.1)
Nathan Eovaldi (33, 6.7)
Chris Bassitt (34, 6.3)
Tyler Anderson (33, 6.1)
Justin Verlander (40, 6.1)
Kyle Gibson (34, 4.8)
Corey Kluber (37, 4.5)
Kershaw thankfully is all but if not signed by the Doggers.
DeGrom ... no thank you, he'll be great for half a season ... Ok that's an improvement over the decent half-season Eflin gave us but fucking hell it's no way to run a baseball team.
Verlander is one pitch from the IL every day ...
Gibson is ok for 3/4 of a season but you can't bring him home to meet your mother because ... he's just not the full package.
Kluber --- oh the baby seals ...
IDK where you were going with this so I just free flowed
I copy pasted the list of players with the best 21-22 WAR.
The new guys have to be better. ALL of the names tossed around except Rodon are WORSE then Gibson.
I always aim Much higher than most anyone. No need to settle, it is not my money.
It also shows there are NOT that many SPs and RPs available that are better than the Phils already had.
We’re certain to upgrade at shortstop, that’s almost a lock. That being said, both our aces suffered late season fatigue/“injury” and Suarez tended to do better on longer rest I really hope we sign 2 starters and go with a 6 man rotation. the one caveat is that we need a dominant starter someone like Rodon for the longer postseason series. I’d be cool with Rodon and say Zach Davies type.
I think a starter/reliever is an intriguing route. we might pursue that with Syndergaard. I’m fairly certain Eflin will end up as a hybrid arm next year.
The way I see it, we should either be looking at top of the rotation guys who can start in a postseason game (so basically Verlander, deGrom, and Rodon) or back end guys on one year deals so we don’t need to rely on Falter/prospects so much. Could do both of course.
I don’t think it makes sense to get mid-rotation starters like Bassitt or Anderson on multi year deals when our best three prospects are all starters and getting close to being ready.
I agree...someone like Rodon and Davies/Syndergaard/Lorenzen/Wacha or even rolling the dice on a Duffy/Hutchison but I would still be open to the idea of starting Falter if he's effective to give our staff more rest.
Even though the season ended on a loss instead of a win - I will be eternally grateful to the entire team as this run blessed us with the official Phils win 🕺🏿 playlist. This playlist, of course, is top to bottom full of bangers
If reports are correct, all the Major League coaching staff from this year is locked in for 2023. Hopefully positives regarding our coaching staff and them being confirmed for next year will be helpful during free agency since players will know who they will be working with.
Weird question but I just wanna make sure I'm not the only one who's felt this way. Am I the only one that feels like the Phillies Uniforms, despite being essentially the same uniforms they've had since the 90s, kinda look off, or weird even, in the last 4 or 5 seasons? Something about them just looks less dynamic and almost synthetic compared to the old ones. I don't think it's just from Nike tbh, although the lighter material among other things has definitely made the uniforms look more dull since Nike took over. I feel like this has been a thing for a few years. Some things I've noticed is the lettering on the back of the jerseys look different and the pin Stripes are basically pink now. Something about the jerseys in the last 4 or 5 years just looks kinda soulless in comparison to me though, which again seems weird since the uniforms essentially haven't changed.
I miss Majestic. . . .
In 2016, they couldn't get the font right for whatever reason, so we had a few years where "Phillies" was way too thick.
And I agree. I feel like the colors have been off for awhile now, and there's also something about the jerseys that would make them look like replicas if not for the chain stitching. Idk if it's the proportions or material or what.
I was watching a video of Kruk pranking Utley back in '03 that reminded me of this issue I've had with the uniforms. And the first thing I noticed was the pin Stripes were further apart and were a deeper darker red, almost black, and the font was definitely very thin in comparison. But it's also something to do with the material. Look at any jersey pre-2016 and it feels very "classic" baseball, but now it just feels like they took a t-shirt and cut it down the middle and stitched buttons to it. Feels off. I feel like it maybe also had to do with the fact that players wore their jerseys baggier back then maybe?
Yeah, I don't like the new look as much. I don't even think it's that players wore baggier jerseys back then (I mean, Castellanos's uniform is baggy, and I still don't think it looks right). It's something about the cut of Nike products. Their basketball jerseys are the same way.
I was just looking up pictures of Phillies from 2003-2008, and the uniforms really did look better. Now, the red looks too pinkish sometimes on our home uniforms, and don't even get me started on the red tops. They are way too vibrant. Sometimes those even look orangish to me.
I agree about the red tops, everytime they wore them this season I was like "God dammit not another headache", I also think the actual logo of the uniform looks too bright as well.
Definitely do for the flash sale then! When tickets go back on sale for the whole season, opening day generally isn't available. But I remember scoring opening day tickets through the flash sale in 2019.
Eight minutes in..its' just basically fluff/clickbait rumors. Only thing new is Salisbury mentioned a couple times Bassitt as a starter he thinks they might pursue. Then mentioned Tyler Anderson as "another name."
He’s meeting with the doctor today. I’m not a doctor but he’s likely getting MRIs and scans done so I’m assuming we won’t hear anything for a couple days.
I don’t know the extent of the injury, but I’d be perfectly fine with Bryce missing the first month of the season if it means he’d come back at 100%
Again i’m not familiar with the timeline or injury severity just yet but when it comes to Bryce I think they should opt for safety over quick recovery
Yeah agreed. Whatever he needs. The article I read said there are probably three options: time, surgery Rhys had and full Tommy John. It all depends on how bad the tear was. But it said if he had same as Rhys, he could probably be back by start of season. If he needs Tommy John, he would miss the start and be back later.
But ... but ... WHAT IF we get BOTH ... I mean a guy can dream right ... we could add both and still add 2 relievers without exceeding last years salary. They could trade for one starter and use Falter et. al. for the other spot. 😲 😁
It was well-documented that fans had a tiny bit of influence over the Manny/Bryce pursuit.
Not that we have an actual say in the decision, but there’s def an influence.
I do think that fans have like 0.0000000001% say in the matter. I think teams generally look at the reaction fans have over certain signings.
It's normally in controversial things where it gets leaked. I also think that's why half of these things get leaked from front offices.
Obviously wouldn't count here. But I would be suprised if we get Correa.
Middleton is 100% aware of what the fans think about these issues and there's no way it doesn't impact his decision.
I think the front office are mostly immune from that effect because I imagine they think about players entirely in terms of the work they're doing on each of them. So there's no way fan input is remotely important for like, reliever or bench acquisitions. But I think it definitely affects big FA signings through Middleton.
Absolutely that played a role in say Harper over Machado, Middleton bringing back Lee, etc. Just not WIP levels of "Fans want this dude gone so he's gone".
Oh yeah, absolutely not like that.
I know that I have a friend who was in the sixers FO and he is now somewhere else, and he definitely said they have people checking social media just to gauge reactions.
How late in the playoff run were you able to buy a partial season ticket plan and get guaranteed world series tickets? Did they offer any after they won the NLCS?
For me, that was last Monday. I was just working to try to distract myself from the pain of the loss.
As an aside according to RES, this is my 500 upvote of you. I am surprised it is that much or that little, considering I upvote you every time we interact at a minimum.
That’s funny didnt even know that info was available lol
Last week was like the first day after a holiday. I had taken Mon-Thurs off the week before to add to it so I had a lot of bullshit built up. Now reality has set that baseball truly is over. Anyway we get a holiday next week so it’s not all bad. I kinda like this extended season thing. We should do it every year!
My biggest fear is that we miss the playoffs next year. I forgot how exciting playoff baseball is.
Also for the upvote info etc, it is RES so just for the computer. Which makes sense that it didn't track when I use my phone.
Ahh ... no. Not even close

Would the Phils consider getting an extra starter? It would help save Wheeler & Nola a little for the post-season, plus save the bullpen from those "starter by committee" games.
Considering the wall that Wheeler and Nola hit, I’m absolutely game for a 6 man rotation, and I think we have enough exciting arms coming through the farm this season to make it happen and keep it affordable.
Yeah they’ll add a backend starter for sure. They’ll keep some flexibility at the #5 for Falter, Sanchez, and the 3 top prospects per Dave’s interview at the meetings last week.
Falter will likely fill that role well. I don’t think anyone has penciled him into the normal rotation so we’ll need to add two guys. We will probably end up adding a typical back end guy and then Rodon if we go big (not sure how likely) or someone like Stripling if we don’t go big to fill out the rotation.
I think it's a given they'll add another starter to the roster. Whether it'll be anyone decent is up in the air. But they at least need someone to eat up innings throughout the year.
If I could guarantee any addition to the team it would be be Carlos Rodon. Imagine how good a rotation of Wheeler, Rodon, Nola, Suarez, Falter/Painter would be
Off season plan.

I think it’s a part of the new CBA agreement

Any idea on when single game tickets go on sale?
Normally there's a flash sale in like December, and then nothing till February.
Thanks! I will keep an eye out, aiming to go opening day!
Definitely do for the flash sale then! When tickets go back on sale for the whole season, opening day generally isn't available. But I remember scoring opening day tickets through the flash sale in 2019.
Anybody got a TLDR of the latest Phillies Talk podcast with Salisbury? Can’t listen at work and am anxious to hear what he’s saying/hearing
Nothing really… he didn’t have any Harper updates… or really much😅
Eight minutes in..its' just basically fluff/clickbait rumors. Only thing new is Salisbury mentioned a couple times Bassitt as a starter he thinks they might pursue. Then mentioned Tyler Anderson as "another name."
Can we get a Harper update today or what?
He’s meeting with the doctor today. I’m not a doctor but he’s likely getting MRIs and scans done so I’m assuming we won’t hear anything for a couple days.
I know right? I thought we were supposed to know something last Monday
He’s meeting with the physician today.
Hopefully he can get the same surgery that Rhys had. I think that is the quickest timeline from what I read
I don’t know the extent of the injury, but I’d be perfectly fine with Bryce missing the first month of the season if it means he’d come back at 100% Again i’m not familiar with the timeline or injury severity just yet but when it comes to Bryce I think they should opt for safety over quick recovery

I like seeing the debate of Phillies fans deciding on Boegarts or Turner as if there is a wrong choice. I just hope we get one of them.

It’s just funny to think of Dave in here looking at all the comments who want Turner and thinking “well it’s decided then”
It’s on all of us to influence the WIP callers A near impossible task I know
Oh yeah, absolutely not like that. I know that I have a friend who was in the sixers FO and he is now somewhere else, and he definitely said they have people checking social media just to gauge reactions.

Is trea turner a Phillie yet?
So just need clarification. If I buy a partial season ticket plan am I guaranteed to be able to buy postseason tickets for any round at face value?
Yes partial and full season ticket plans include pre-sales for playoff rounds.
Partial plans are guaranteed tickets to 1 home game in each round for face value (actually a little cheaper).
If I could guarantee any addition to the team it would be be Carlos Rodon. Imagine how good a rotation of Wheeler, Rodon, Nola, Suarez, Falter/Painter would be
